"Premier" isn't marketing flair - it's accurate. This is, hands down, the best raw bar in Kansas City. We arrived for our 5:15 p.m. reservation in the main dining room and were warmly greeted by Allison, our server. She struck the perfect balance - friendly, engaging, and attentive throughout the meal. A great start to the evening. For two diners, we wanted to explore as much of the menu as possible. Before ordering food, we were told the signature Frozen Gin & Tonic was a must. It lived up to the reputation - bright, refreshing, and expertly balanced. The only thing that would have made it better was a slightly warmer dining room. We're big mussel fans, so we opened with the Bangs Island Mussels - and they set the bar high. A generous portion of plump mussels bathed in a white wine and roasted tomato broth that was deeply flavorful without being heavy. The toasted bread was perfect for soaking up every last bite. Simply outstanding. Next came the NOLA-Style Shrimp Gumbo. Served in a small bowl, but packed with richness and depth. Adding a touch of hot sauce brought just the right amount of heat and complexity. A standout dish. My wife - having happily overindulged in mussels and bread - opted for a lighter course: a single Maryland Crab Cake, available fried or broiled. It was almost all crab, clean and flavorful, with a satisfying crust. She couldn't finish it...so I did. When you go to a raw bar, oysters are non-negotiable. I ordered a half dozen featuring both East and West Coast varieties. Each one was pristine, briny, and fresh, and the horseradish had just the right bite. For my entrée, I chose the Bacon-Wrapped Shrimp - four large prawns, each wrapped in crisp, smoky bacon. Simple, well-executed, and a strong finish to the savory courses. Dessert did not disappoint. My wife loved the Lemon Pistachio Chess Torte, while I devoured the Bourbon Apple Tart. She noted that the toasted meringue reminded her of marshmallows - a detail that made us smile. The dining room is intimate and can get noisy as it fills up. Next time, we'll likely try the patio for a different vibe. Pacing throughout the meal was spot-on, dishes came out promptly from the kitchen, and Allison's service tied everything together into a truly memorable evening. We'll definitely be back - and soon.

Drinks: Frozen Gin and Tonic - fantastic, really great balance of sweetness and citrus/acidity, velvety frozen slushy texture, definitely worth a try if you like G&T's Food: Gumbo - so good, perfectly seasoned savory and spicy, generous with the sausage and shrimp in the gumbo, were with a little bit of rice on the bottom, perfect for a chilly night Clam toast - tasty, nice crispy crusty bread, topped with chopped clams sauteed in garlic butter, ontop of a creamy sauce and a bright refreshing salad, some clams had a slightly chewier texture is my only note but a delicious bite Market Veggies - roasted Brussels sprouts with sweet potatoes and cherry agridoche, hearty and filling, a little sweet from the cherries, a bit of tanginess from the vinegar, a great way to round out our late lunch, early dinner Service was awesome, super friendly staff with great recommendations. Very warm and friendly with great knowledge of the menu both food and drink. Overall had a great meal at Earl's Premier, such a treat for a cozy Monday date night. The variety on the menu is solid and truly some of the best gumbo I've had.

We did get the cajun butter for a side and garlic parm for the wing flavor. I was disappointed to have butter and wings taste like the fridge. Almost as if it was freezer burned butter or left open in the fridge. I hope the next time I come, I have a better experience with the food Service wise, it was great! The drinks are from the fridge; no soda fountain, no bar, no glasses. Just drinks from cans or bottles. They do offer a small libations selection of beer/seltzers/bottled margaritas. The crab breaks well with whole bites of meat. The shrimp are large. Served in a large platter with sausages, egg, corn on the cob and well cooked potatoes. All generously covered in butter with your preferred seasonings. A bib and gloves are provided. Be prepared to have a chin dripping with butter. Honestly I was happy this wasn't an upscale restaurant because I would have been embarrassed by my lack of etiquette as there's just no way to "properly" eat this meal. This is definitely a "dining experience" and Oh, so worth it!

Parker Hollow - A Must-Visit Gem in Downtown Parkville My…read morewife and I had the pleasure of dining at Parker Hollow last night, the brand-new spot in downtown Parkville, and it was an unforgettable experience from start to finish. We were lucky enough to snag seats at the Chef's Table, which put us right in the heart of the action--and it's hands-down the best way to experience this restaurant. Owner Johnathon Justus greeted us warmly and spent the evening guiding us through the menu with genuine enthusiasm and expertise. His passion for the food and the space is infectious, and he made us feel like VIPs the entire time. The remodel and decor are stunning--modern yet cozy, with thoughtful details that make the dining room feel both elegant and welcoming. Every corner of the restaurant reflects the care that went into bringing Parker Hollow to life. Service was impeccable: attentive without being intrusive, knowledgeable, and genuinely friendly. The drinks were spot-on--creative, balanced, and perfectly executed. Now, the food--where do I even start? * I kicked things off with the Caesar salad topped with catfish nuggets. The nuggets were crispy, flavorful, and a fun twist on a classic. * My main was the hangar steak, cooked to absolute perfection (medium-rare, juicy, and tender) alongside crispy French fries that were golden, salty, and addictive. * Johnathon surprised us with a complimentary bite of crispy skin salmon with an Asian dipping sauce--flaky, rich, and that sauce? Chef's kiss. My wife ordered the octopus and pecan blue cheese salad, and she hasn't stopped raving about it. The octopus was tender, perfectly charred, and seasoned just right--easily the best she's ever had. The blue cheese and pecans added a wonderful crunch and depth. The cooks at the Chef's Table were just as engaging as Johnathon, happily walking us through their techniques and answering all our questions. It felt like dining with friends who happen to be culinary wizards. Verdict: Parker Hollow is a 5-star experience through and through. The Chef's Table is a must if you can book it. We're already planning our return--this time to try the fish collar. If you're in the Parkville area, do yourself a favor and go. You won't regret it.

Bringing Jonathan Justus's culinary talent back to the Northland feels like a win for the entire area--and from a selfish standpoint, having a raw bar this close to home is a real bonus. The space itself has been beautifully reimagined from its former Italian roots. The bar and chef's table anchor the first floor, while the dining room upstairs feels intimate and inviting. Thoughtful holiday décor and warm music gave the evening a comfortable, almost at-home feel--upscale without being stuffy. We had an early 5:30 p.m. Wednesday reservation. A few guests were already seated when we arrived, and by the time we left, every table was full--always a good sign for a restaurant just three months in. We started with the Pecan Pear Salad, followed by the Steamed Mussels, and finished with the Salmon. The salad was a standout--my wife especially loved the pears, which added a perfect balance of sweetness and texture. The mussels arrived in a tangy parmesan broth with vegetables and were plentiful--15 mussels in the bowl. A couple of small details would have elevated the experience: small forks for the mussels, a separate bowl for empty shells, and perhaps more baguettes. The baguette itself was heavily grilled, which slightly overpowered the broth. I had seen a video of the Scottish Salmon before our visit, beautifully plated, so presentation-wise it didn't quite match that expectation last night. That said, the portion was generous, and the salmon itself was tender, juicy, and well-prepared, which ultimately matters most. Dessert is where Parker Hollow truly shines. We ordered the Sherry and Thyme Poached Pear and the Pecan Coconut Tart, and both were exceptional. The pear dessert, in particular, was a work of art--visually stunning and perfectly balanced in flavor. Service throughout the evening was friendly and attentive. Given that all food has to be carried upstairs, the pacing was solid overall. The only notable delay was with our cocktails, which took longer than expected to arrive. All in all, Parker Hollow feels like a confident addition to the Parkville dining scene--polished, welcoming, and clearly finding its rhythm. We're looking forward to returning, especially to explore more of the menu and the raw bar.
