Fried in dirty oil rice
Michael B.

Ordered Kung pao and curry chicken along with two orders of vegetable fried rice and crab Rangoon. Total was $40 and change. The Kung pao chicken was subpar and far more sweet than spicy. The curry chicken was average. The fried rice was an abomination. It tasted and looked like it was cooked in old, dirty, oil. We thew both orders in the trash. Would not have even considered feeding it to the dog it was that bad. See photo for reference. Will never go back and am wondering about the validity of all the high ratings.

Dinner combos: honey chicken & szechuan chicken (comes w crab rangoon & egg rolls)
Karli W.

Pleasantly surprised! Ordered 2 dinner combos ($6.75ea): Honey chicken & Szechuan chicken. Dinner combos come with fried rice, 1 crab Rangoon & 1 egg roll. Fried rice: great, bright peas & carrots too Crab Rangoon: perfect amount of sweetness, not a lot of crab Egg roll: good taste, but barely filled & different wrap than the Rangoon. I've had better. Honey chicken: very surprised at the fresh taste & the large chunks of chicken. More chicken to breading! Very fresh & tasted perfect. My 2 kids loved! Szechuan chicken: fantastic non breaded chicken dish w very slight heat. Full of fresh veggies like broccoli, green bell peppers, water chestnuts, thinly sliced onion, celery & bamboo all in a dark broth that is fantastic & fresh. Small amount of inside dining available. Looked like 2 booths & maybe 3 tables w chairs. Very very clean. My go to Chinese is still china star off 64th near parkville, but this new China Express is a close second!

Counter from small eating area. There are 2 tables, 2 booths.

This is truly a great hidden fried chicken spot in Gladstone and I am so glad I found it! I was in…read morethe area for a Yelp KC event at Origin Con Nguon coffee shop - shoutout to them and Bao Wowz food truck - fresh tasty asian flavor inspired Baos found here! I happened to drive down the lane to find some more food options and Luna's Chicken n seafood caught my eye. I read the beautiful story of Luna's owner settling here from overseas starting out as a dishwasher and working his way up in the food industry through humble beginnings all because of his family's love and support. I honestly didn't even realize Luna's had Vietnamese roots and thought it was southern style owned and inspired. I got the fried chicken, shrimp and fried cat fish combo with some fries (along with Jamaican jerk and lemony dry seasonings on the side) and let me tell you that it did not disappoint! Everything was prepared fresh and fried to perfection without being too oily along with crispy, golden and fresh French fries. The flavor was savory with the right amount of coating and spices. The pricing is very competitive too and similar to the fast food fried chicken spots around with combos starting $10+ for chicken and mix combos starting $14+. Most people were placing takeout orders but there was a small sitting area on the left if you decide to eat there - and I did. Otherwise the restaurant was clean with kind staff though there was a bit of a wait time because of constant to go orders. The restaurant staff was sweet enough to give me a soda for the wait. Improvements - I hope they improve their food containers because by the time I got my order with pipping hot fried meat combo - the top of the styrofoam containers had melted. Overall, I was satisfied with their food and service. 5/5 for me.

Parker Hollow - A Must-Visit Gem in Downtown Parkville My…read morewife and I had the pleasure of dining at Parker Hollow last night, the brand-new spot in downtown Parkville, and it was an unforgettable experience from start to finish. We were lucky enough to snag seats at the Chef's Table, which put us right in the heart of the action--and it's hands-down the best way to experience this restaurant. Owner Johnathon Justus greeted us warmly and spent the evening guiding us through the menu with genuine enthusiasm and expertise. His passion for the food and the space is infectious, and he made us feel like VIPs the entire time. The remodel and decor are stunning--modern yet cozy, with thoughtful details that make the dining room feel both elegant and welcoming. Every corner of the restaurant reflects the care that went into bringing Parker Hollow to life. Service was impeccable: attentive without being intrusive, knowledgeable, and genuinely friendly. The drinks were spot-on--creative, balanced, and perfectly executed. Now, the food--where do I even start? * I kicked things off with the Caesar salad topped with catfish nuggets. The nuggets were crispy, flavorful, and a fun twist on a classic. * My main was the hangar steak, cooked to absolute perfection (medium-rare, juicy, and tender) alongside crispy French fries that were golden, salty, and addictive. * Johnathon surprised us with a complimentary bite of crispy skin salmon with an Asian dipping sauce--flaky, rich, and that sauce? Chef's kiss. My wife ordered the octopus and pecan blue cheese salad, and she hasn't stopped raving about it. The octopus was tender, perfectly charred, and seasoned just right--easily the best she's ever had. The blue cheese and pecans added a wonderful crunch and depth. The cooks at the Chef's Table were just as engaging as Johnathon, happily walking us through their techniques and answering all our questions. It felt like dining with friends who happen to be culinary wizards. Verdict: Parker Hollow is a 5-star experience through and through. The Chef's Table is a must if you can book it. We're already planning our return--this time to try the fish collar. If you're in the Parkville area, do yourself a favor and go. You won't regret it.

Last night was our first visit to Parker Hollow, and we're genuinely excited to see another…read morestandout restaurant arrive in Downtown Parkville. Bringing Jonathan Justus's culinary talent back to the Northland feels like a win for the entire area--and from a selfish standpoint, having a raw bar this close to home is a real bonus. The space itself has been beautifully reimagined from its former Italian roots. The bar and chef's table anchor the first floor, while the dining room upstairs feels intimate and inviting. Thoughtful holiday décor and warm music gave the evening a comfortable, almost at-home feel--upscale without being stuffy. We had an early 5:30 p.m. Wednesday reservation. A few guests were already seated when we arrived, and by the time we left, every table was full--always a good sign for a restaurant just three months in. We started with the Pecan Pear Salad, followed by the Steamed Mussels, and finished with the Salmon. The salad was a standout--my wife especially loved the pears, which added a perfect balance of sweetness and texture. The mussels arrived in a tangy parmesan broth with vegetables and were plentiful--15 mussels in the bowl. A couple of small details would have elevated the experience: small forks for the mussels, a separate bowl for empty shells, and perhaps more baguettes. The baguette itself was heavily grilled, which slightly overpowered the broth. I had seen a video of the Scottish Salmon before our visit, beautifully plated, so presentation-wise it didn't quite match that expectation last night. That said, the portion was generous, and the salmon itself was tender, juicy, and well-prepared, which ultimately matters most. Dessert is where Parker Hollow truly shines. We ordered the Sherry and Thyme Poached Pear and the Pecan Coconut Tart, and both were exceptional. The pear dessert, in particular, was a work of art--visually stunning and perfectly balanced in flavor. Service throughout the evening was friendly and attentive. Given that all food has to be carried upstairs, the pacing was solid overall. The only notable delay was with our cocktails, which took longer than expected to arrive. All in all, Parker Hollow feels like a confident addition to the Parkville dining scene--polished, welcoming, and clearly finding its rhythm. We're looking forward to returning, especially to explore more of the menu and the raw bar.

It's warm, cozy, and just a nice place to sit and actually enjoy your meal. The staff are always friendly, super patient if you're deciding between dishes, and the bartender is quickkk which I appreciate. At this point, we've tried just about everything on the menu (non of the seafood dishes), and I genuinely haven't had a bad meal here. The tom kha soup, I literally cannot come here and not order it. It's creamy, flavorful, perfectly balanced with that coconut + citrus combo, and just comes together so well. Comforting, but still light. Another standout is the pad thai. Solid, flavorful, and cooked just right. Quick tip though: the noodles are thinner, so the spice definitely comes through more. If you like heat, keep that in mind. My personal favorite dish is the pad kee mao (drunken noodles). I usually go up a spice level on that one and it hits every time ... super flavorful, a little kick, and just really satisfying. Not pictured are the curries, but we've had all of them at this point and they are really good. My top two are the green curry and the panang. They are both rich, full of flavor, and consistently amazing. This is my go-to spot when I have friends in town or even just for an early dinner when I want something I know is going to be good without thinking too hard about it. It's consistent, good energy, great food... I'll keep coming back. **FYI - I have ordered takeout which the food was still good, but did not hit like it does in the restaurant **

Drinks are well-crafted and complement the food perfectly, making it a great place whether you're there for a full dinner or just to relax with a few drinks. Happy hour is another major plus--excellent specials that actually feel like a deal and give you a chance to explore more of the menu. The ambiance pulls everything together: warm, inviting, and stylish without trying too hard. It's comfortable enough for a casual outing but also works really well for a date night. Overall, Thai Orchid checks every box--fresh ingredients, excellent cocktails, great value, and a welcoming atmosphere. Easily one of the top dining spots in KC, and very possibly the best Thai food in the city.

We love to slow down, enjoy the atmosphere and each other's company. We love that it doesn't echo, voices aren't carrying, and we can hold a conversation with each other while great music plays in the background. It's a small business, black owned, family owned (BossLady!!), and family working on site. I find being flexible and enjoying the amazzzzzing shrimp is worth it. Next time, they'll have what you think you need, or you'll find a new favorite. Restaurant Week is tough on small business participants, especially with the RW parameters and requirements, but we remained flexible and found a new favorite. It looked like many new customers were really excited to be there, and it's about the busiest I've seen it when we have been in. We dined during Restaurant Week, and ordered the Burnt Ends and Garlic Butter Shrimp. The Burnt Ends were SOOOO tender, and the flavor of the meat really shined, especially for a restaurant that specializes in seafood. Mac and Cheese is always good! But the garlic butter shrimp......I could eat that all day. The cheesesticks were delicious and the lemon cake dessert! We've also had the BOSS item on the menu, perfect fried shrimp, perfect air fried real potato fries, lemon pepper shrimp, corn on the cob, and we love them all, no complaints! Have patience, give Grace. The young people are very nice, quiet and kind. We've met at least 3 of the family who work in the front. They are really sweet and trying to do their best for you. I'm so glad to see them there!! These are the kind of businesses that I like to support and I think others should, too. Are you getting the best seafood in the city, the metro, and for hundreds of miles any direction? YES, you are. Are some young people working their family's hard fought business instead of doing what most people assume young people are doing?? YES. Owners that LOVE what they do....making people happy with their food, while doing what they love? YES! Those are the things that matter, and this restaurant deserves to be famous for the seafood, based on taste alone. And the young people will grow up, and they'll be better for having worked in the family business. Let's SUPPORT ownership, family employees and think beyond our tiny box.

We went for later lunch and this place was crowded with diners, always a good sign. The lunch restaurant week menu really intrigued me because it was one of the 3 course options for $20. First course- luscious butternut squash soup One of my all time favorite soups and this one didn't disappoint, I love the autumnal flavors of this soup. The nuttiness shined through the silky smooth soup filled with the richness of cream. It was seasoned wonderfully balancing the inherent sweetness with the right amount of salt and herbs. I would drink this soup up by the gallon. Second course- Classic Chicken Picatta I loved how light this dish was, instead of being breaded it was tender moist chicken, yes it may look a little anemic but it wasn't lacking flavor. The bright lemon caper sauce brought like to the chicken. The abundance of capers made me so happy, they provided a tangy briny profile. The smooth as butter mashed potatoes just soaked up that succulent sauce and every bite had such a luscious mouth feel. This was an elevated comfort dish. Dessert- crème brûlée Now I'm not a dessert girl so I'm not a crème brûlée connoisseur but, it had a nice crackly sugar shell with a decadent eggy custard. The ripe berries were simple but added freshness to richness of the custard.

Odd. We appreciated the heads up however, I feel like they were really wanting us to turn around and leave as the restaurant seemed overwhelmed. We stayed as it was too late in day to go elsewhere. The kitchen was indeed backed up, no silverware provided had to ask, and our server said to order right away if we wanted to get our food. They were out of some items. Took 45 minutes for food to arrive. However, the staff was apologetic, even though it took awhile to be served the meal itself was acceptable --the pork chop, surf and turf, braised meat, and pizza were all hits. Server had to confirm with kitchen if they were still serving dessert, we were able to order. The desserts consisted of banana coconut pie which basically pudding & bananas in a bowl, tiramisu, and Keylime, all were just okay not worth $. The patio is beautiful and perfect for a nice day. It is very expensive, so we'll save it for special personal occasions not a national holiday/special day, but the food quality makes it worth a return visit.
