Oh, my! My first poke experience and it was a great one. Located in a strip center, restaurant was clean, staff very friendly and helpful. Since this was my first time, the gal patiently explained my options and what I might like best. I am embarrassed to say that I am unable to remember what I ordered BUT I wanted to make sure I reviewed Hula Poke because it was so good. My dining partner, had poke before was impressed as well. I was impressed by the restaurants at other locations but not the one off Bandera. No doubt the food was good expect for too little protein but the service was lacking. Too little protein, unhelpful worker behind the counter while ringing up. My hopes were up after eating at the other locations around town, but this just brought disappointment. read more

So after my initial review, I decided to try the location a few more times. Today marks probably the 5th (and final) time since I posted my original review of this place, and the quantity/quality of the food has in fact gotten worse. I ordered a bowl to go since I had to get home to meet a contractor. While I was having the bowl made I had to repeatedly ask for more veggies. The woman making my bowl is the same woman that has made my bowl every single time I've gone regardless of the day or the time of day. It's like she lives there. She is the most stingy person ever. She has actually taken fish out of my bowl because she felt that it was too much. Well, I had my bowl made, paid for it, and left. I get home and start to eat it, and the rice is hard and cold. Like they refrigerated the rice. Usually it's warm and soft. But not today. The rice is so disgusting, I can't eat it. The fact that they raised the prices, give you less for what you pay for, and now are giving out cold, hard rice, just did it for me. I will no longer go to this location. There are other poke places nearby that have better quality for the same price and are much more generous than this location of Hula Poke. Sorry Eric, I loved your San Pedro location but since my office moved, the Bandera location was the only convenient location for me. Now I won't be eating there, unfortunately you not only lost my business, but that of my family too. read more

First time trying this place and was pleasantly surprised! The restaurant is modern, quaint and extremely clean. The ordering process was easy and the young lady assisting us was very helpful with suggestions on how to order. Her suggestion on taking a sushirito instead of a bowl was on point! Best sushi rice. All the toppings are pretty typical of an american poke bowl place but their rice....they have nailed the vinegar marinade that either makes or breaks a sushi place. I could eat a whole bowl of just the rice! Now pair that with some spicy tuna or tempura shrimp and those basic toppings become not so basic after all. I add ponzu sauce with the sriracha aioli for even more flavor. They have a pretty nice selection or bottled teas as well. Keep in mind it is like a subway...where you go down the line and pick what you want... so your meal can vary greatly depending on how heavy or light the person making your bowl's hands are. I've gotten a massive heaping handful of carrots before. Keep an eye on your bowl's maker and specify "little" or "a lot" just like you do at subway and you'll be just fine. read more

The food was great and the restaurant is clean and trendy. They have a decent variety of items you can use to build your bowl or sushiritto which is basically a custom sushi roll. Back in my hometown we also have a Hawaiian Poké bowl place and this definitely came close to hitting home. They do charge extra for seaweed salad and crab salad and the portion is pathetic. The one back home doesn't charge extra for either of these toppings and is twice the portion. Overall, I would recommend this location to friends and family. read more
