Truck stop restaurants always have good food, otherwise all the truckers wouldn't stop. But we just didn't expect this quality of food or the level of friendly service we experienced when we dropped in. Emily was sweet and friendly and even treated us to some of her favorite music. Waitress-in-training Elizabeth was a delight and even offered us an extra large water for the road. Their kindness was more of an Oasis than a Huddle! We felt like friends by the time we left. I stopped in recently in an attempt to find a good local diner that serves waffles. Huddle House seemed like a good choice, despite its distance from my house (about 20 minutes). When I walked in, it was hard to tell when I should order for a pick up. Once I determined where to go, it took a couple of minutes for someone to take my order. I wish the menu hadn't been so sticky. I ordered a waffle with turkey sausage & a smash burger with tater tots. It took about 25 minutes for my food to be ready, despite not being busy. When I got it home, the waffle was a little tough to cut using a butter knife. The taste was good, as was the texture. I don't think its worth a 20 minute trip, but it wasn't bad. My turkey sausage was very good. My fiancé liked his smash burger, though he noted the burger wasn't as flat as most smash burgers. He liked the taste & the tots were crunchy, if somewhat overly salty. If we're in the area, we'll probably stop by for a bite. Don't even think about visiting the Huddle House. I should have left when I walked into the restaurant and saw the conditions of it! The seats are greasy, oily, dirty and taped together with gray tape. The floor had a puddle of water that the waitress was aware of and everyone was walking through it. Our waitress apologized for the way the restaurant looked, but never cleaned up the spill or wiped off the tables. The food was nothing to brag about and couldn't make myself drink out of a glass there. If the seating area looks that bad, what does the kitchen look like??? This place is a disaster ! Poor server & the food is terrible ! Ordered sausage patties & they came out undercooked so they were remade & then no biscuit that was included with the meal. The server never asked if I needed anything else, didn't ask if I needed a refill on my drink . The cook doesn't wear gloves or a hair net while cooking & I never saw him once wash his hands ! The Huddlehouse in New Haven, IN, was one of the worst dining experiences ever. Other told me that the place was pretty good. I guess they have never been there on a Sunday afternoon. I don't expect a chain restaurant to have 5 star food, but I do expect quality. 12:30PM: When my friend and I arrived, we seated ourselves. It took over 5 minutes for anyone to ever come to us to ask us what we wanted to drink. It took them another 10 minutes to bring us our drinks, then take our orders. I ordered the Smokehouse platter with the eggs overeasy. The lady I was with ordered chicken tenders without fries and a side salad. We waited 35 - 40 minutes to get our food. The waitress came one time to give us a refill on drinks. When we finally got the food, it can only be described as awful. Of my 3 overeasy eggs, 1 was overeasy, and the other 2 were fried hard. My hashbrowns were greasy and chewy. My bacon was barely cooked. The chicken tenders were overcooked and came with rubbery. The waitress apologized because she said the cook thought it was a "to go" order not picked up. She actually brought it to the table in a Styrofoam box. She had to be reminded that my friend had ordered a salad. After we finished eating we waited 10 minutes for the waitress to bring our checks. She said she would come back. I was told the night before they opened at 6, I show up at 6:35, hear a tv or radio on, have been sitting here for 20 minutes, and nothing. They don't have the hours of service posted anywhere, but someone is clearly opening the store as there's a boiling pot of what I assume is water just sitting on the stove top. read more

Service was pretty slow. When we got our food the fruit bowl looked as if it was expired. The waffle was hard and came with about 3/4 cup of margarine on top of it. Sunday night @830 Took a long time to get my drink order, ten minutes for waiter to get my meal order, only one other table, 5 adults, but way too long to get my food, When it arrived, I order eggs whites cooked and yolks runny by their definition on the menu: one egg was missing, no hollandaise sauce. I was pleasantly surprised with the value and the actual food I was served at The Huddle House. After a lot of driving, I needed to take a break, get some gas and some food. However, I didn't want to go out of my way and this was right off of the road I was traveling. I went in with low expectations but was pleasantly surprised with what I received. Now, your not going to get 5 star dining here, please don't expect that. On the menu...you will not see Beef Wellington, Lobster Thermidor or anything close. Actually, if I saw that on the menu I would be a little weary cause this place is inside of a Flying J. What you will get is a good amount of food for just a little more than you would spend at McDonald's. Huge side salads, home style sides and hearty portions of proteins. This is not going to be somewhere that you would want to take your first date or even your second for that matter. Just came from there because with all the bad reviews I just had to check them out. Have to say it was actually really good. I mean it's restaurant at a truck stop open 24 hours, what are you expecting 5-Star dining? The restaurant was clean for the most part, they could of ran a broom around the floor a little, other than that all the tables were clean wiped off. Saw many reviews about the service being terrible but our waitress was very nice and pleasant. She checked on us regularly to see if the food was good and to check drink levels. So no complaints in the service area for me. When it came to food, it was good. It tasted good, cooked perfectly. It was fast too which I was surprised by. The burger I had was a little messy but sometimes the messy they are the better they are. In all I had a great experience. Not sure why others have had such a bad one, maybe it was just a bad night for them to go? I don't know. I recommend it to anyone wanting to try something different. read more

When we went in the restaurant had 4 tables occupied, most of the tables were dirty, waited 10 minutes for service, ordered MVP, 42 minutes later the waitress told us that the gravy was to runny to serve. I told her to just forget the order and we left, We have been there several times (Maybe 25 to 30 times)each time there was something wrong, either they were out of something, the cook quit and pulled fire alarm on way out, etc. I attribute this to poor management.
