If you need a snack, hearty meal, or just a break, and enjoy comfort food you won't be disappointed. The menu selection covers the gambit from breakfast, lunch & dinner plus everything served all day. Something for most! It's a nice size restaurant holding approximately 75 diners with booths and 4-top tables. It was fairly busy but we were greeted and seated immediately to a booth. Our dinners arrived timely with generous portions and served hot. We could have jumped right back on the road but we decided to linger longer than dinner took. I ordered the Grilled Prime Rib Tips Dinner ($9.69) topped with sauteed mushrooms and onions served w/two sides (my choice was mashed potatoes w/white gravy and corn) plus grilled Texas Toast. Surprisely the Prime Rib Tips were tender, cooked perfectly for me (MR) and the grilled mushrooms and onions added a nice touch of flavor. The lumpy mashed potatoes required a touch more salt & pepper for my taste but were good. My son choose the Country Fried Steak ($8.29) topped with two scrambled eggs and American Cheese then stuffed between layers of hashbrowns and smothered with Country Sausage Gravy. Served with your choice of toast. The hashbrowns were crisper than he preferred but other than that he enjoyed and devoured quickly. Our server did a great job refilling my coffee and his sodas. I get it! Everyone is overwhelmed and overworked. I just don't see how it continues to be an excuse for bad service. I placed an order online about 10 minutes before we were to arrive at the Huddle House attached to the Flying J station. We had been driving for a bit and needed both petro and tummy fuel. I ordered the $5 combo which was pretty darn good. It included 2 eggs, bacon and cheese on a biscuit, tater tots and a drink. Hubby ordered a bigger platter that included eggs, bacon, sausage, grits & Texas toast. The food was hot, prepared as requested and the experience was as expected for this price point. I took a star away because the drink was not delivered with the meal and my hubby was not willing to make a 3rd trip inside. The other star is solely because of attitude and disorganization. We arrived at our appointed time. Hubby stood behind a single person in line for more than 4 minutes. When it was his turn he was told they hadn't even started the order and to come back in about 10 minutes. So instead of the 16 minutes we initially waited, now it is least 26 minutes. The woman handling all of this makes us feel as if we are an inconvenience, snapping that they are blown away. There are lots of ways this could have been handled better (and kinder) but it is what it is. So ultimately the food was good (hats off to the cooks) but the service was sad and the order wasn't complete. When the waitress handed me my Southern Benedict, I was immediately disgusted upon the feeling of something sticky on the bottom of my plate. Then, I noticed how my eggs were overcooked. The hash browns were over-cooked, swimming in a pool of grease. Aside from the off putting bitter taste from them being overcooked, they were otherwise flavorless- void of any seasoning. My partner's fries weren't salted either. What kind of cook doesn't know better to season fries and hash browns?? I returned my plate to the waitress after two bites. We ended up in Charleston as a pit stop to Poplar Bluffs. Luckily we found the Huddle House at a truck stop and ended up having the best experience ever! Do not stop here! We have been waiting about 10 minutes for our check and it still isn't here. There are only three tables filled and there are four people working. I have another 10 hours of driving ahead of me and would like to get out of here. The server handed my daughter the wrong plate and then when she realized her mistake, she didn't fix it. My sandwich didn't have mayo on it. Everyone else was done with their food before I could call the server over to get me mayo, which looks like lard. The food is subpar. We sat in a booth and were barely acknowledged. After 5 minutes, the server came to take our drink orders; we ordered iced tea and indicated we were also ready to put our food order in. She appeared to be fishing in her pocket for a pen, then, without saying one word to us, disappeared into the back. We waited, thinking she would bring out our drinks and take the order, but nothing...it was as though we were invisible. It became racial, and the one black guy was embarrassed. The staff kept their masks on, except the cook. It was under his nose. Kinda freaked me out. Totally got our order wrong, too. Really liked their country fried steak meal. They let me substitute fried okra for the hash browns. But, I got the eggs scrambled and were really small portion. This is by far the worst restaurant I have ate at in a long time and I don't recommend going here. My family rides with me on the truck and we drive over the road. I had Chili, Chicken, Grits, loaded baked potato, Wife had Omelette, and Grits, daughter had chicken finger basket, within about 20 minutes we were all sick, asked to talk to the manager and there was not one there, the so called cook started saying that any Dr. Will tell you that you can't get sick that fast, was then told by our waitress and the other waitress the manager will be in the following day, not the case, the cook who was there was the "lead" and then started to quote Google and tell me it says you can't get sick that fast and that nothing will be done and he is the best I will be able to talk to. read more

This is the second time we eat here. The first time I asked for a coke and I was told they only had fruit punch or lemonade because they were out of coke. I asked for the lemonade and it was just disgusting and the service was slow. We came here again today because the Mexican restaurant across the highway was closed. We should have just waited til they opened. Okay, being a vegetarian at this place is next to impossible. Luckily, we caught a good waitress on a night where they weren't that busy, and she and the cook came up with a baked potato and a salad for me. My husband loved his burger and fries. All in all, it's not a great place to eat if you don't eat things with faces. I happened to be at a different Huddle House a few weeks later and decided to repeat my order.. it cost almost twice what I paid at the other one, and the salad didn't have anything on it but iceberg lettuce and diced tomatoes. Do not go here, tried to call several times to place a to go order and no one ever answers and when asked the workers say the phone is Flying J's problem and the manager at Flying J says the workers turn off the phone, then I placed an order to go paid cash and the girl behind the counter asked if i needed a receipt i said no and she took my money put it in her purse and gave me change from her purse!
