This place didn't have the best reviews but we decided to try it anyway today. The lady was working alone do it was slow but she was super friendly. The burger was good, Bacon amazing, I didn't care for their fries it seem they had been left a little too long but she was by herself trying hard. My kids for breakfast foods the pancake taste a little like what you would get at a hotel so I don't recommend the pancakes. My husband got the special of meatloaf he enjoyed his meal. My oldest got the breakfast burger and loved it. Over all it's not the best burger (I prefer Lemonade house grill in Poplar Bluff or Backyard burgers) but it was good and we would go back when we are in Dexter. Be prepared to wait but over all we enjoyed it. It's a very cute place we enjoyed the theme and old feel. We left a good tip she was working hard and on Valentine's day it was well deserved. read more

Worth the detour off the highway for this hidden gem while traveling. Only 1 sweet older lady working but we ate late evening and were the only customers in the place, so we got our food quick and hot. I highly recommend the sunrise skillet and a waffle. We will definitely be stopping again if we are ever back in the area and hungry. read more

Two stars because it wasn't the WORST place I've been, but it was disappointing. If you like canned/frozen food, you'll be all about it. Person in our party asked about their tenderloin - pre-made. Cowboy burger "smothered" in chili? Barely any on it. Waffle? Cooked FIRST and left to sit while the rest was prepared. Stone cold on arrival. Asked them to put it in the microwave a minute... still cold and now "chewy" to boot. Skillet was "ok" but not nearly what was pictured on the menu. Don't bother. read more

We were heading to another town to get something to eat on our way to the campground. Was tired and saw a sign in the highway for Penny's Diner. Sign posted that it was there. Pulled into the Mexican restaurant and parked. The Diner was tucked behind. Walked over and glad we did. Only 1 person eating which gave us concern. The place was clean. The man behind the counter was awesome! He was friendly, helpful (I have allergies) and we felt so welcomed. We got our fresh handmade patty melts to go and talked to the customer as the food was prepared. When we got to the campsite and ate-it was absolutely delicious!!! The only reasons i could think of for the lack of customers are the lack of sign direction and visibility once in the parking lot. Stop in and eat-very worthwhile. read more

The iconic American standalone diner--looks like a cross between a subway car and spaceship, with a row of stools along the bar and some small tables along the exterior wall. Came complete with a few errant flies and the local septagenarian with John Deere hat reading the local newspaper. The bar top was moderately clean, and although the waitress was doing double-duty mopping and taking orders, it did not exactly look like cleanliness was #1 on their list. Could be wrong, though. The food unfortunately was a bit underwhelming for me--I had the breakfast burrito w/ sausage, which I usually order at Waffle House--I wanted to see how theirs would compare. It came with two large patties chopped up with the eggs, so it was more like a sausage burrito with some egg holding it all together. The big downside was that the cook waited until he was ready to wrap it up in the tortilla to add the cheddar cheese, so the cheese was still cold and dry when I started eating it--like getting a bag of shredded cheddar from your fridge and stuffing a handful into your mouth. Not my cup of tea. Maybe their breakfasts or other items were better, but the novelty factor was just not enough to make it a favorable experience in my opinion. read more

When this place opened, it was a nice, clean place with good service and good diner food. Have been there about 10 times, but not within the past year. Went last night and there were four booths with customers. After we ordered, heard complaints from all of the booths, either about the quality of the food or the order was messed up. One table had to reorder two times and it was obvious neither the cook or waitress had a clue. After waiting about a hour (no exaggeration), the waitress came to tell me part of what I ordered wasn't available. A complete disaster. One star is too many. read more

This is our third visit to this diner, the first visit in 2012 was a great experience. The second visit was okay but this third visit was below average. The server was friendly but slow to take our order. The food arrived in 40 minutes. The food quality was not as good as in previous visits. There appears to be good foot traffic but they lacked adequate servers. read more

They have a decent breakfast but there bacon tastes old and the waiter who was the only person working at the restaurant was over worked and took a long time to get our drinks refilled. It was not his fault but the owners who made one man cashier, cook, and waiter of the whole restaurant. Also there menu is really small and most of the food tastes microwaved. read more

It was the worst. I always leave a tip when served food , this time NO! The blond waitress was more concerned about going outside for a smoke(3 times) than tending customers.
