Jays is know for their chicken...and rightly so. But their Breakfast is perfect everytime. The fried chicken fillet sandwich has been [5/5] my entire life. And I'm 40. I live in STL area now and stop in every chance I get. Jay's Biscuits & gravy are 5/5 Breakfast biscuits (sausage, ham) are 5/5 And you cannot beat the prices. Wow. Just passing through the area and stopped for a quick lunch. This place is so good. The chicken is crisp and the sides are great. And I'll warn you... I got a liver dinner and it was huge! I couldn't eat half of it. Prices were very good also. Clearly popular with the locals. read more

Service was good. I got the chicken sandwich and it was very high quality, crispy chicken. Although it did lack a bit of flavor I was still pleased overall, especially with the atmosphere and homey feeling of the restaurant. If I make my way back to Sikeston I will probably try another menu item. read more

We just happened to be passing by Sikeston, Missouri at suppertime on our way home from a trip up north. As is my custom, I searched Yelp to see what was good in town. We weren't in a pizza or a burger mood, and we didn't have time for Lambert's Café, so Jay's Krispy Fried Chicken piqued our interest. When we drove by, there were just a couple of cars in the parking lot, which is normally a red flag for me; but, there were several cars in the drive-through, which told me two things: 1) this was a place that the locals frequent often. And, 2) the chicken would be hot and fresh because of the long line in the drive-through. We came in and were immediately amazed at the reasonable prices on the menu board. The chicken was on display under heat lamps behind the counter and it looked fantastic and, as the name implies, crispy. The lady taking our order was very helpful and explained to us the sides and such. She highly recommended the gizzard plate, which I tried. My wife went with the chicken strip plate. To be totally honest, I was not all that impressed with the gizzards. They were not battered in the same batter as the fried chicken, as can be seen in the pictures that I took. They were not bad by any stretch of the imagination, just not quite up to expectations. My wife said the chicken strips were delicious. This is a place that I would frequent often if I lived in the Sikeston area as I am a fried chicken lover. The next time I will go with my favorite, which is the bone-in chicken. As we were sitting there eating our meal, the dining room began to fill up, and there were several cars in the drive-through as well. Good food, great prices, and a nice inviting dining atmosphere. We'll be back next time we're in the area. read more

The BEST fried chicken. Always friendly and fast. Restaurant could use an update, but it is clean.

Food was really good. I got the gizzard dinner and for right at $10 after taxes you could feed 2 people. I was only able to finish half. The gizzards were perfectly cooked. They were very tender. Coleslaw and mashed potatoes were both very good. The roll that came with it was soft and buttery. I will definitely be going there next time im in town. read more

Had it for the first time and it was so good and the food was cooked perfectly and seasoned very good I would definitely come here again

Once you've done "throwed rolls" (Lamberts) you're left with few choices in Sikeston. Jay's Krispy Fried Chicken is one of them, and they've been around a long time. Also heard they have a buffet, so you know I'm down (up) for that. Rolled in, ordered at the counter. "Do you want a breast or wings?" Well, a breast, I guess, and they handed one over on a disposable tray and I headed to a table adjacent to the buffet area. So apparently, unless I missed something, the "buffet"here is one piece of piping hot fried chicken and all the sides on the buffet you want. There were also unidentifiable (to me) chicken bits on the steam table. Otherwise, standard fare, salad fixings, mashed, gravy, couple different beans, greens and the like. Might have had soup, too, I think. I loaded up. I'm got a high degrees of confidence those side dishes came straight from a number 10 can delivered by Sysco or similar. No matter, it's a good value. And the chicken IS exceptional. I'd do it again, but stick to the menu. They seem to do a brisk take-out and drive thru biz. Open early. read more

I drive from Cape Girardeau to Sikeston when I want chicken it's the only place too get chicken

My friend recommended this place to me since I would be in Sikeston for a while. I decided to try their breakfast biscuit, I ordered the sausage and egg biscuit. I wasn't impressed. The biscuit I felt wasn't baked properly in the center. I was disappointed since my friend said it was one of the best biscuit she had ever had. read more

Yelp never lets me down! We were passing through sikeston early and only a handful of restaurants were open. You order at the counter and and the staff is friendly. The restaurant is clean and comfortable. I had a chicken biscuit with an egg on it. Im really not a biscuit fan. But these biscuits were flaky and buttery. Not dry at all. And the chicken. Omg. Simply delicious. Surprisingly great breakfast sandwich. read more

I stopped here after I read their sign: "Best Gizzards in Town" Are there other gizzards in town? I have never had gizzards, so I figured what better time to give 'em a whirl. I tried the gizzards. They were good! The fried coating reminded me of KFC's--which I think is a good thing. It basically tasted like--I hate saying this--like chicken. But it is chicken, so there you go. The portion was really generous. I got the dinner which came with a roll, cole slaw and mashed potatoes. The roll and mashed potatoes were good. The cole slaw was terrific! It was really fresh. It also kinda reminded me of a version of the KFC cole slaw, but better. There was plenty of parking. The restaurant was very casual. Employees were super nice. And they have a drive through! As their name implies, they have fried chicken. They also have chicken livers, cobbler, salad and much more. read more

We stopped for gas on our road trip and someone at the gas station recommended this place. We went through the drive through which had very friendly service! I had the 3 piece dark combo - 2 thighs, a drumstick, a biscuit and a small cup of mashed potatoes. The chicken was good - I would have included a slice of white bread for the grease, but it was fine like it was. Nothing special about the sides, but they tasted good too. I was not hungry when I left and I considered my lunch a good value - as an added bonus, all the staff were super nice and friendly! read more

Breakfast is *chef's kiss*. Omelette, biscuits and gravy, pancakes/French toast. Mmmm! Dinner is fabulous as well but the chicken biscuit is our go-to favorite with a side of mashed potatoes and gravy to add to it. This is a staple restaurant for our community. There's something for everybody! read more

Most of the time this is the best place for chicken but tonight they are handing out thighs for breast

Love this Place. I shouldn't be a fried chicken känsoor/. Ha! I'm not but I do know me some fried chicken. Love of yardbird flows though the greasy veins of all who work here. Local place/no advertising/big reputation in Sikeston, MO. They have a small buffet with mash and gravy, corn, green beans, cobbler and such. Ask anyone in town about Jays and their eyes will likely glaze over. Crunchy, Crispy, messy, salty head dizzying satisfaction. I come in only for the chicken. Cleanliness helps! It's amazing. Breakfast? Of course. Chicken biscuit with egg and cheese. Ok, here goes... Biscuit Beautifully golden browned (perfection). Fried boneless chicken breast portion that dwarfs the biscuit and the crunchy, juicy savoriness could on its own usher in world peace! A full fried egg expertly prepared dressed with oozing melted cheese. Yeah! Let's not forget Jay's own special sweet mustard sauce gracing your tastebuds to complete the symphony that is this breakfast treat. I guess I'm a fan. Ok yes I am. read more

My buddy Jerry talks so much shit about this place but there aint no place that beats this. This restaurant has some of the best fried chicken you'd find anywhere. You will forever raise an eyebrow, and smirk, upon passing the neon Colonel Sanders sign. The coating they use is perfectly seasoned and they cook it just right. Anyone and everyone knows that eating this stuff is the sure-fire way to get onto the angioplasty table. Nevertheless, I suppose that the more resigned of us would claim anything is OK in moderation. The side I ordered was fries-- and for moment thought that it probably made sense to order it with a couple of coronary artery stents. I held my tongue, though and was rewarded by these fries that were so good that they seemed almost enchanted. So, let's face it, the food was great! Was it a slight hit to my lifespan--yeah maybe a few days on the back end...but, well, it was really good eats! read more

Quite possibly the greatest fried chicken in the world. My dad and I were in Van Duser for his brothers funeral. Stopped here because Lambert's was packed. Glad we dId. The food is pretty good; the tenders are mostly breading. The service is so-so, the biscuits make up for it.

ordered chicke breast with an order of okra. okra was cold and the chicken breast was burnt

We went to a chain restaurant that we wound up walking out of because we were treated poorly and wound up at Jay's, it was the end of the night and they were cleaning up, but they welcomed us in, the owner's son was fantastic and gave us extra sauce after I told him that I was from outside of Chicago and I dream of their chicken biscuit, we come here every time we visit my mother and it never fails to impress. read more

Stopped here on a road trip to the beach and was pleasantly surprised. Although it is set up like a fast food place with a drive through, it also has a sit down area with a small buffet. The food is not your typical fast food, though. Instead it tastes home-cooked. The chicken was perfectly crunchy and moist. The buffet had a nice selection of biscuits, veggies, and salad options and it came with your choice of white meat from behind the counter. Also, kids eat free from the buffet which was a nice surprise. read more

Went to Jays this morning. Drive thru. Order biscuits and gravy. 3.52. Gave lady a 20. Took my change and food and drove home. Got home turns out she gave me two fives a one and the coins. Should have been a 10 a 5 a one and coins. Called Jays spoke to guy, said he would have to count the register. He called me back left voicemail said the register was right nothing he could do. 5 bucks not a big deal at all. What bothers me is dishonesty. If you can't trust a place over 5 bucks not any reason to go back. Too bad though, I've been going there for years descent enough food. But way to many choices for decent food to choose a place you know you have trust issues with. I would have chalked up to simple mistake if he had called and said "yep register was 5 bucks over". But when you report it that quickly and register is right, only conclusion I can make is clerk pocketed 5 bucks. If she did it once she'll do it again. Jays got bigger problems that losing a 2-3 times a month customer. But that's not my problem. Adios. read more
