Since there were a lot of chain restaurants on the main drag in Dexter, this looked like the least-crowded place to choose from (as far as mom-and-pop businesses). But the service was great and so was the food. The only downer was that my first choice (the pork steak) they were out of. So I went with the ribs, plus fries and fried corn-on-the cob. They had a couple great sauces to choose from. Fountain drinks are available. Very low selection of dessert but I was full by the time I walked out of the place. Highly recommend and I would love to try some of their other menu items next time in town! Don't be fooled by the outside of the building...it obviously looks like a former fast-food joint. read more

Went in for a quick lunch and the service and food were of excellent quality. Friendly staff, tables were bussed and clean immediately.

We just went and had lunch there and I ordered a pound of turkey to go along with our two lunches and drinks as I was leaving I asked for a sauce cup to go to put a little barbecue sauce in to go with my pound of turkey. I ordered that cost altogether with lunch over $40. They told me no I would have to buy it. I'll never be back. read more

Went on a recommendation while we were in town. The brisket melts in your mouth!! Ribs are fall off the bone good. Service is impeccable! Was so good, we had to go back a second time! Even brought some back to AZ with us! read more

+5 more stars! The best BBQ we have ever had and have had amazing BBQ from Georgia and Alabama. Ribs were perfectly smoke, moist and tender and very little fat. We had the brisket and pulled pork too - delicious and we would drive the 5 hours back for this delicacy. Sides we also enjoyed were okra, Cajun fries, baked beans (the absolute best) and slaw. To top it off the staff were fast, efficient and kind! read more

Our party of four from the Atlanta area stopped in for a late lunch after the 2024 eclipse. Like any self respecting BBQ restaurant should have, the air in the parking lot was redolent with hardwood smoke. We ordered at the counter and found a table in the large dining area. After a drive delayed by heavy traffic and inexplicable extra crews filling interstate highway potholes, being served a few minutes late a large brisket sandwich with slaw on it and a choice of four BBQ sauces on the table was a little slice of a different kind of heaven than the celestial one we just witnessed. Two of the others in our party shared a large combo and one got a chopped pork platter. Everyone commented how much they enjoyed the food. After watching commentary and images of the eclipse as it tracked across the US and Canada, we began the long trek home with full bellies and smiles on our faces. The food was great, the dining room was clean and the service was fast. We couldn't ask for more than that. Dexter BBQ was a great stop in a town which has grown significantly since the days when my wife could actually reach her best friend in college by addressing the snail mail envelope with nothing more than: Sharon McQuarry Dexter, MO. read more

We were on a "SEC Football road trip" traveling between Columbia, MO and Oxford, MS. We happened to pass through Dexter on the way south at lunch time and ran across Dexter BBQ. I think that if I lived there, I'd be eating lunch there everyday. The pork ribs, brisket and pulled pork were awesome, and there's free soft-serve ice cream with every meal order. Very reasonable prices and the counter service was friendly. There was even a big-screen TV with football on to complete the ambiance. My kinda of lunch place read more

Very good bbq sandwich. Has several different flavors of bbq sauce to choose from. Restaurant is clean and decent location. Prices are a bit on the higher side but you get what you pay for! Ribs are good but some on the dryer side. Overall I give it a B. Enjoy read more

We had been to Nashville and were heading home and needed to stop for food. The kids wanted pizza and after driving to both pizza places in town to find them not open, the adults made an executive decision- BBQ! We were not disappointed. The food was fantastic and plentiful for the price. My very picky 9 year old gave his stamp of approval by completely clearing his plate! I loved that they recognized the different styles of BBQ with the complimentary sauces on the tables- KC BBQ, Memphis BBQ, North Carolina BBQ... if you get a chance stop in and get it a try, you won't be disappointed! read more

I've traveled around at of the US and dexter bbq (dexter location) will always be my go to for the best pulled pork nachos. They've always offered great service, as well as friendly. It gets pretty busy inside at lunch but they get tables cleaned quickly. If you eat inside the restaurant you also get your own self serve ice cream! No complains here! read more

Really neat place, definitely wasn't what I expected and was pleasantly surprised. Ribs were great and prices were nice. The service was quick and everyone was friendly. If you're in Dexter Missouri and bbq is what you want you gotta stop by. read more

Brisket Sandwiches are so good and tender! Glad we stop in when we we're passing through

Love their Cajun fries and bbq nachos! So delicious and friendly service. Always clean and fast to get your food to you too!

Ate here two days in a row while working in town. First day had the pulled pork sandwich and nachos. Sandwich was perfect and nachos were great just not a crazy amount of meat. Second day ordered another sandwich which was cold this time (disappointing) but still tasty and a brisket salad. The salad was very good as well again, just not a large portion of meat. Service was good but not super friendly. I do recommend if you want above average BBQ. read more

Great every time. Pulled pork is a classic, but definitely try the ribs too! It's a must whenever we visit family.

We arrived at 7:35 after traveling 4 hours today and they close at 8:00. We were the only ones in the restaurant and they got our food out quickly. My husband and I shared a 3-meat platter (brisket, ribs, and pork) with baked potato, slaw, okra, and baked beans. While we were enjoying our meal (it was all great), they were of course cleaning up so they asked if we wanted the complimentary ice cream. We told we would like some and then the man filled 2 large drink cups with ice cream and put it in the freezer for us until we were ready. We will plan to stop here again! read more

What a great BBQ place. We ate lunch on a Monday surrounded by groups of locals catching up about their weekends. The ribs were moist and wonderfully smoked. While we could choose from 5 sauces, this meat did not need any embellishment. A nice touch was the free soft-serve ice cream at the end. We could have taken a few slabs home but we'd rather drive here again. read more

Amazing BBQ Pork Ribs. Worth the 2 hour drive! Price Value $17 for full rack. $26 with 2 sides. Easily feed the 2 of us.

We stop at Dexter BBQ every time we're in town, and it's always as good as I remembered. Unfortunately, the last time we stopped in the service and the BBQ were both less memorable than we're used to. We had a group of about 8 people and ordered 2 separate orders. We were just about the only people in the restaurant except for a table with another family of around six. When our food came, they only delivered half of it while the rest of our group had to wait. Normally it wouldn't be a problem to wait a few extra minutes, but after about 10 minutes their food still hadn't arrived. Since we ordered together and the restaurant was still pretty empty, it seemed a little strange. Long story short, it turned out that the service person had brought their food out to the dining room and then taken it back to the kitchen. While they eventually got it to us, it had started to get cold back in the kitchen and just wasn't as good. The brisket was also pretty dry, but I'm not sure if that had to do with the actual cooking or if it had just been sitting out too long. Either way, hopefully things are better for our next visit. We love Dexter BBQ and I'm looking forward to buying a few bottles of their sauce to take home next time! read more

The establishment had a nice atmosphere and was clean. The silverware was wrapped individually in little plastic bags. I wish I could give this place 5 stars, but I can't. I called first to see if they had dine in. The gentleman that answered the phone after he told me they did he just hung up without saying goodbye or anything. I ordered the small rib plate and my boyfriend order the turkey plate. Most everything we ordered was dry. The ribs were not fresh. His turkey and baked potato weredry. The cashier girl was friendly:-) read more

Are you hankerin' for some good BBQ? Then this is your place. One of the best BBQ joints in Missouri. The ribs are so good with the rub that you can skip the sauce. If you need a little the have a great choice. They are labeled to help you understand what the sauces are like. Everything form the pork steak to the beans are top notch. If you are hungry best to get there early cause there will be a crowd. The service is great and the food comes out hot! This is a don't miss place if you are anywhere close. read more

They've lost a star on quality. I get that meat prices are up, but a slab of ribs has over doubled and it just isn't quite as good.

Good food, great friendly staff. Great prices. Complimentary ice cream when you dine in!!

My favorite BBQ restaurant. My Dad's family is from southeast Missouri and it was always a treat to get Dexter ribs when we'd visit my grandparents growing up. The ribs are great. They are best pork ribs I've ever had anywhere. They need no sauce. But it just so happens that Dexter Bar-B-Q's southeast Missouri vinegar sauce is delicious too. My rating is based partly in nostalgia and partly in the fact that I still love the place and eat there whenever I am in the area - 5 stars! Folks always think KC for Missouri BBQ or Memphis for mid south BBQ, but for my money southeast Missouri BBQ is where it's at! read more

Really great barbecue and ai love there sandwiches. If dining in it's nice to get the complimentary ice cream with a dinner

No hello or can I help you when ordering at 1:30pm on a Thursday. No thank you after. Just a blank stair and we appeared to be inconveniencing the employee. Not one ounce of friendly happening. Ribs, pulled pork, Cajun fries, potato salad, and cheese burger was good. Didn't care for the baked beans. I expected some common curtesy when visiting a small town hot spot but didn't get that this time. Enjoyed the ribs enough to get them again but will probably just get it carry out like we have done in the past. read more

Been coming for ten years and it is as amazing as ever. Brisket sandwich is crazy good.

Today I ate at Dexter BBQ. I had the brisket melt with pimento cheese and slaw on top. Accompanied by fried corn on the cob and Cajun fries. The melt itself had a great smoky flavor with a nice sharp creaminess from the cheese, along with some nice texture from the slaw. The fried corn was great, sweet, succulent deliciousness. Cajun fries had a good amount of spice, dipped in the mustard sauce, makes them even more delicious! Atmosphere was good, bright, warm, inviting. Service was great. Super fast. Highly recommend eating here. Service- 5/5 Food- 5/5 Presentation- 5/5 Atmosphere- 5/5 Overall- 5/5 read more

I cannot begin to say enough about this place. I grew up on Hickory Log but Dexter Ribs has taken that hickory flavor to another level. We are a military family that grew up in the local area and this is our go to place every time we come home. We have eaten at establishments all over the world but I joke (not really) about Dexter Robs being my last meal. I love that service is quick and friendly, the restaurant spotless, there is a no tipping policy, and more importantly, the food is consistent every single time. These are by far the best ribs I have had (and probably will have) in my lifetime. When my mom and I shop, we go through the drivethrough to grab a pulled pork (with slaw of course) sandwich. If you are looking for an amazing food experience while passing through Missouri, this is it. Dexter Ribs, keep doing what you are doing and I'll see you next time my husband gets leave and we are home! read more

Acceptable BBQ. Limited selection of sauces. The ribs are very meaty - but dry. They do have bbq baked potatoes which are a rare find.

Best BBQ ribs in the nation. Hands down. No BBQ sauce needed, though they have it if you'd like.

It is an ok place it not a place I eat very often but when I do it's really good quality food especially there ribs 10/10

We went yesterday and the food was definitely not up to their usually good quality. Thr ribs were not cooked completely and the green beans must have cooked all day, they were terrible, couldn't eat them. Pruces have gotten ridiculous and thr quality of the food has gone down. Used to be my favorite place to eat, what a shame! read more
