We were on a "SEC Football road trip" traveling between Columbia, MO and Oxford, MS. We happened to pass through Dexter on the way south at lunch time and ran across Dexter BBQ. Our party of four from the Atlanta area stopped in for a late lunch after the 2024 eclipse. Like any self respecting BBQ restaurant should have, the air in the parking lot was redolent with hardwood smoke. We ordered at the counter and found a table in the large dining area. After a drive delayed by heavy traffic and inexplicable extra crews filling interstate highway potholes, being served a few minutes late a large brisket sandwich with slaw on it and a choice of four BBQ sauces on the table was a little slice of a different kind of heaven than the celestial one we just witnessed. Two of the others in our party shared a large combo and one got a chopped pork platter. Everyone commented how much they enjoyed the food. After watching commentary and images of the eclipse as it tracked across the US and Canada, we began the long trek home with full bellies and smiles on our faces. I've traveled around at of the US and dexter bbq (dexter location) will always be my go to for the best pulled pork nachos. They've always offered great service, as well as friendly. It gets pretty busy inside at lunch but they get tables cleaned quickly. If you eat inside the restaurant you also get your own self serve ice cream! No complains here! read more

We arrived at 7:35 after traveling 4 hours today and they close at 8:00. We were the only ones in the restaurant and they got our food out quickly. My husband and I shared a 3-meat platter (brisket, ribs, and pork) with baked potato, slaw, okra, and baked beans. While we were enjoying our meal (it was all great), they were of course cleaning up so they asked if we wanted the complimentary ice cream. We stop at Dexter BBQ every time we're in town, and it's always as good as I remembered. Unfortunately, the last time we stopped in the service and the BBQ were both less memorable than we're used to. We had a group of about 8 people and ordered 2 separate orders. We were just about the only people in the restaurant except for a table with another family of around six. When our food came, they only delivered half of it while the rest of our group had to wait. Normally it wouldn't be a problem to wait a few extra minutes, but after about 10 minutes their food still hadn't arrived. Since we ordered together and the restaurant was still pretty empty, it seemed a little strange. Long story short, it turned out that the service person had brought their food out to the dining room and then taken it back to the kitchen. While they eventually got it to us, it had started to get cold back in the kitchen and just wasn't as good. The brisket was also pretty dry, but I'm not sure if that had to do with the actual cooking or if it had just been sitting out too long. Either way, hopefully things are better for our next visit. My favorite BBQ restaurant. My Dad's family is from southeast Missouri and it was always a treat to get Dexter ribs when we'd visit my grandparents growing up. The ribs are great. They are best pork ribs I've ever had anywhere. They need no sauce. But it just so happens that Dexter Bar-B-Q's southeast Missouri vinegar sauce is delicious too. My rating is based partly in nostalgia and partly in the fact that I still love the place and eat there whenever I am in the area - 5 stars! I cannot begin to say enough about this place. I grew up on Hickory Log but Dexter Ribs has taken that hickory flavor to another level. We are a military family that grew up in the local area and this is our go to place every time we come home. We have eaten at establishments all over the world but I joke (not really) about Dexter Robs being my last meal. I love that service is quick and friendly, the restaurant spotless, there is a no tipping policy, and more importantly, the food is consistent every single time. These are by far the best ribs I have had (and probably will have) in my lifetime. When my mom and I shop, we go through the drivethrough to grab a pulled pork (with slaw of course) sandwich. The melt itself had a great smoky flavor with a nice sharp creaminess from the cheese, along with some nice texture from the slaw. The fried corn was great, sweet, succulent deliciousness.
