Run, don't walk to Rudy's for the fried catfish! Best catfish I've had in years! Fried Chicken Livers were perfect. Great meat and three style home cooked sides. We had collards, turnip greens, mayo slaw, white beans, squash casserole and baby limas and hush puppies - all excellent. Coconut cake was terrific. Service is friendly and efficient. We went and Saturday night and it was so good we returned the next day for lunch. read more

Rudy's is a cool diner on the downtown square in Murray. I introduced an old friend to Rudy's today. The service was quick and the meat and 3 were good. But the temperature in the restaurant was cold (and I'm rarely cold). Outside was a beautiful 70 degrees. It was cold enough that my food got cold before I could eat it. After the cool lunch I decided to check out the restroom. My surprise- upstairs, way upstairs. My friend realized and decided to wait because she can't do stairs very well. Old building charm - but that's really tough for some people. May be my last visit to Rudy's. read more

We were looking for a place for breakfast in Murray, KY, and we didn't really want to go to Cracker Barrel. Passed by this diner on the town square and decided to give it try. Wow! I know why they've been in business since 1936! It was a small, rather crowded and busy space, but we found a space at the counter next to the pickup window. The food was being turned out quickly, and I took a peek in the kitchen, only to see 5 people working as a well oiled machine. We ordered our food, and a local sat down next to us. Apparently he knew everyone behind the counter. It was a very small town feel with a vintage diner vibe. Our meals came and I think that was the first Western omelette I ever had that had more fillings than eggs. Everything was delicious, particularly the coffee. If you're in Murray you should check it out! read more

Was traveling through Murray and stopped the night before to rest. Wanted a greasy spoon for breakfast, found it on the Square. People complaining about this place are no fun at parties, I can assure you of that. Even though it was busy at 9am Sunday morning, we found seats no problem and the service was attentive. Rudy's is absolutely amazing! Their food is by far the best in town and with it being the oldest restaurant in Murray there is definitely a down home old country vibe going on. Our server was Morgan and we couldn't have asked for a better waitress. She was on top of everything and we didn't want for anything the whole time we were there. First time, and the last. I ordered pancakes for my kids and French toast for myself. When the pancakes got to the table they were so tough, like they were made yesterday and microwaved. The French toast wasn't even brown, and it was so tough you had to rip it apart instead of cutting it. I was really looking forward to brunch, and this place let me down faster than McDonald's would've. Missing half the food, and the food we got was terrible. Ms. Jones and Mr. Rock Star decided to swing by Rudy's this afternoon for a very late lunch. Rudy's is the perfect restaurant for Murray's charming town square--red booths, baskets of jams & jellies (when was the last time you saw that??) and enough kitsch on the walls to make it endearing rather than annoying. A solid diner menu that highlights southern dishes...but on this mid-Fall afternoon, the lovely Ms. Jones and handsome Mr. Rock Star opted for their cheeseburgers. A tasty basket of a delicious burger and perfectly cooked fries didn't disappoint. Prices are very reasonable, and the service was outstanding. Ms. Jones enjoyed Rudy's so much she plans to try it for breakfast one morning as the locals say it can't be beat. If it's anything like the lunch we enjoyed today, we are looking forward to it. If you're looking for food that's just ok, this is your spot. If nothing else is open, this is your spot. If you have no place else to be, this is your spot. Came in, ordered hot tea, chicken soup and a grilled cheese. My partner ordered the meat and three. It took us over 40 minutes to get our food, to the point where we were ready to walk out when the food finally showed up. Never was asked if we want more tea until the food came. Soup was ok. Grilled cheese looked like bunny bread with a slice of American. Let's just say we won't be back. read more

We just moved to Murray and wanted to try something new. Upon walking in, you can tell that it calls to an older crowd. No one seated us or welcomed us. The food was okay, but I wish it was cleaner.
