Pan seared pork dumplings
Dinestein M.

Had a nice little dinner here Tuesday and was very pleased. I ordered pan seared pork dumplings and egg drop soup. Hubby had the Bun combo. The soup was delicious with fresh crisps and the dumplings were very delicious with a beautiful presentation.

Turn down your hearing aids . Even with the overwhelming reverberation from conversations at every table the meal was great. It has been years since we dined here. Locals and tourists agree that you must come here often. I love the sign that reads "This is not fast food" but we received ours in a timely manner.

Lo mein

Rockport Boba Tea and Coffee

Rockport Boba Tea and Coffee

I am on a quick out of town trip for the weekend to Rockport. My family and I were looking for a…read moreplace for boba. Luckily, I came across Rockport Boba Tea & Coffee. We were fortunate that we came in about an hour before they closed for the day. But once walking in, the boba shop is to the immediate right with a chalkboard saying "other door." It is a nice and small spot but there is a bit of a step to take to get to the counter. I decided to go with the Vietnamese coffee and horchata smoothie. The Viet coffee is good. I am accustomed to a really bolder flavor of Viet coffee but this was just right. The drink cup is a big size and I typically get Viet coffee in a small size but I am not complaining. The horchata was good as well. It was more on the cinnamon flavor profile but if you do enjoy horchata I would give it a try. I would say a more sweeter take. The price is reasonable and worth it. The shop is family run. I definitely appreciate that opposed to the much busier atmosphere. It is a really relaxed feel. Very homey vibe with the minimalist decor and the figurines on the shelves. Overall it is good experience. I did not see any other places in the area that has boba. Driving, we had to turn around but you cannot miss it. It is a really nice teal blue color on N Church. Also their unique door with the sun and moon too. I do not get chances to come to Rockport often but if I am ever in the area, I would recommend stopping to Rockport Boba Tea & Coffee. Seating is a bit limited but if you are on the go, this will be nice place to pick up and go.

Delicious drinks for a hot summer day and a ton of options so there's something for everyone!read more

The Rice Hat - Edamame and crab Rangoon

Nope, nope, nope. Wanted to try another new (for us) place and drove across the causeway to try…read moreRice Hat. I thought it was going to be chinese, but it's Vietnam/Chinese combined. Well, my "dish to compare" is sweet and sour chicken so that's what I ordered. My wife ordered the Shaken Beef. She also wanted some wonton soup. The chicken inside the fried pieces was so shredded it was actually fluffy inside. I guess if your teeth are painful during eating that's a good thing...but it left me...used to eating palpable meat pieces inside the S&S chicken, this was incredibly disappointing. It was almost flavorless. My wife's beef cubes/pieces were very chewy. By her description (and I tried one piece and concur) it was beef flavored chewing gum. I have to guess it was very well marinated low quality beef. Oh...and we had visitors of the fruit fly variety. They were quite frequent in visiting. The fairly pushy waitperson also put two extra meals on our ticket. Only after we went down the ticket and saw the extra entrés and did she come over to correct it. Left us wondering if she was trying to take advantage of a couple of older people. Speculation, but billing errors leave bad impressions. We won't be back.

Our waiter was friendly and attentive. We ordered crab rangoon and pork eggrolls (I don't eat either so no feedback for that). I ordered just water to drink and it tasted terrible. Not filtered - I guess just straight out of the tap? Not sure but I ended up ordering tea which was fine. Their drinking glasses were lil pitchers which were cute. We asked about the spice level and the waiter said there were no levels - it's just "however the cook feels like it that day". ‍ I got the chicken lo mein, TONS of food for $16. Flavor was good but too oily for me. When the check came around I noticed the cash vs card price. About $3 extra to use a card. Who carries cash these days? They don't have a modern POS machine so they took my card to the back to process. Their tipping suggestions were 15,20,25,30%. Overall, it was okay but I probably won't be going back.
