China A is a small Chinese buffet located near Rockport. Some friends and I stopped in today for dinner, and were taken aback at the sheer size of the place. Nothing grand to behold outside or inside, but the restaurant is clean and has plenty of seating. Staff at the front counter were eager to get us seated. Wonton soup was my starter, which was hot but lacked flavor. The wontons were either not fresh or of low quality...the meat inside tasted almost like cardboard. The lo mein noodles and fried rice were the best things we ate, and even those were nothing special. The waiter bussing the tables and refilling drinks was a nice guy, and was on top of things. The General Tso's chicken was okay, but oddly soft and didn't seem fresh. The sauce was also runny. The sweet and sour sauce tasted almost like cherry syrup, and the pork ribs...oh dear. Dry, and just weird flavor. China A has the opportunity to be a successful Asian buffet in the middle of a seafood-oriented town, but they'll have to step up their game to compete with the other local competition. read more

The place overall wasn't that bad but it wasn't very good. We walked in and the place was okay the carpets were kinda dirty and the booths were all scratched up. I felt dirty in the restaurant. There wasn't many choices and my food was not hot it was like warm/cold. And I got the sesame chicken and it was very chewy. Though I loved the fried rice but you can't go wrong with fried rice. The service was mediocre our waitress only said about 2 words the entire time we were there, we were out of drinks the whole time and needed refills. This has been voted one of the best Chinese buffets in Texas, and it really lives up to the name. For lunch, the price is just over six dollars, and for dinner it's $9.50. They have everything from American Chinese food to American Food, to Japanese food (HUGE sushi bar!), steaks and fresh seafood. The waitstaff is great, they don't bother you and refill your drink almost faster than you can drink it, and sometimes you don't even see them do it. They have decent Unagi (eel sushi). There's also salad and ice cream, and a big dessert bar. Do keep in mind this is Americanized Chinese food, so don't really go in expecting real Chinese. read more

Arrived at this Restaurant at about 7:15 p.m. on Friday 11-29-2019. Service was great and our Wait Person was very attentive and friendly. We're not All-You-Can-Eat type of people but we decided to give it a try. I liked the Raw Oysters and and Crab Legs along with all the other Chinese Foods! They had a "To Order" Stir Fry Bar where you pick what you want stir fried and they cook it for you while you wait! Very nice! Food was continually being brought out as well as the many deserts. They did have a serve yourself hard dipped ice cream bar with eight flavors. Very Very nice touch! The hiccup was that they only had four raw oysters and once I scooped them up they didn't bring any more out. Price was $11.50 Dinner All You Can Eat while the Lunch Menu was advertised at $8.50. We shall return! My qualifications as an Expert and Experienced Food and Service Critic; I have a BS in Management and have been trained in two Culinary Schools, to include on the job training at other venues. We had lunch at China A after avoiding it for over a year. I didn't avoid it because of bad food but because my will power leaves me in there. I broke my personal rule and went back for a second helping of baked flounder and salmon. Also I had peel and eat shrimp, a dab of steamed rice and two pieces of sesame chicken. Every thing I tried was very delicious. I normally avoid the breaded, fried food because of the calories so am unable to comment on these except to say that the sesame chicken was good. We ate before noon so the food was fresh. When someone complains about dried out food I have to wonder if they ate late. No buffet can keep the food perfectly fresh for a long time. I don't expect everything to be to my taste so I take a small helping first, hence the second trip on the fish. I had a bit of everything and my favorite was the fried rice, egg rolls, and general tso's chicken. Very warm and tasted good. The only thing that wasn't good was the lo mein. It was only noodles and sautéed over garlic. But with a bit of soy sauce, it is good. The selection for dessert was very good too. I have beeen visiting Rockport every several months for about a yr now and I had read some bad reviews for this restaurant but I decided to try it anyway.I went around 12:30 on a Sunday they had an over abundance of food varieties not just Chinese.I especially liked the crab legs,fresh oysters & peel & eat shrimp.Lunch price was 7.99 and was well worth it.
