Maguro paradise roll

I'm so happy that we tried this place! It was some of the best sushi I've had in my LIFE. Biting into one of these rolls sent me to literal HEAVEN. The tuna was so bright and fresh. The service was kind and very quick. Our waiter was very accommodating as we were trying to get to a show at the American Bank Center during Art Walk. From the outside, you will see beautiful murals and another sushi restaurant. The food is a bit pricey but you can't expect good sushi to be cheap. Just awesome.

Agaadashi tofu and a side of veggies

Cute small restaurant that was walkable from my hotel. As a vegetarian I got the fried tofu and a side of veggies. I was a little disappointed that the tofu was soggy. Even the piece sitting outside the sauce the crust was soggy. Overall, the service was friendly that atmosphere was nice. The spicy of edamame is very garlicky.

Oh my goodness! Words cannot express how much we enjoyed this place. The food was amazing, the staff is great and we appreciate that they're open lunch time on a Saturday. The restaurant is a stand alone with parking at the back. While you walk towards the front door, you cannot miss the beautiful and very detailed mural. Unfortunately, some items we ordered didn't make it to the camera roll for they were devoured right away. We had the cucumber salad, sunomono salad, garlic and spicy edamame, avocado bomb, shrimp fried rice, aburi salmon and the party boat. Everything was divine, chef's kiss! We enjoyed the avocado bomb experience and the crunchiness of it. But oh my, I cannot stress enough how good was the aburi salmon, they told us it needs to be eaten just as it is and right away. It was heaven in my mouth. Of course, we had to get their Party Boat, sashimi were cut in perfect thickness and the nigiri with the right amount of rice. Also, the shrimp fried rice was so tasty! They used the big shrimps which were cooked perfectly. I couldn't get enough of it. They also serve Orion which I had the pleasure of trying, the beer was so smooth and easy to drink. The owner, Wayne, was there walking around checking on customers and was very friendly. Will definitely come back to this restaurant even if it's a 3-hour drive!

The Boston role

The Bahama mama role blew my mind so hard I download yelp for it. I think personally it's way better than dokyo in terms of services as well. My wife describes it as tasting fresh and she was not wrong.

Aka Sushi Downtown was a great experience overall. All of the staff were friendly, attentive and knowledgeable about the offerings. Our party of 3 ordered tempura, a sashimi platter and ramen, all of which were delicious. The restaurant is nicely appointed and not too loud inside so it is ideal for enjoying the food with a nice conversation. It recently changed ownership and is BYOB which I love too!

Hot hot hot roll

We found this restaurant by accident, checked yelp and decided to give it a try. The service, food and friendly atmosphere were all amazing. I've been searching for a good sushi restaurant in Corpus and found it!

Well friendliest staff you could have at a sushi bar for sure!! Jay was amazing and explained so much, he just made everything so pleasant and truly cared about everything he was doing ! He was awesome! The waitresses also were so happy and friendly! On top of that, and on top of my rainbow roll was fresh wasabi, which was so good and yummy! Everything here was good :) I was much impressed!

Okinawa Old Fashioned. Delicious!

This place is fantastic! Easily top 5 sushi places for me. Maybe top 3. They took a while getting the sushi out but that was fine as I was enjoying my Okinawa Old Fashioned. The old fashioned was great. I was there so long that I decided to try the sake too. I got the snow maiden sake and this is probably the first good sake I've ever had as I've historically gotten the house. On to the food; I got the Texas Thunder roll and a regular Ol' spicy tuna roll with extra spicy Mayo on the side. Phenomenal. When I first went to dig in I shot half of my chopstick across the room right as the manager (possibly owner) was walking up. She saw what happened and promptly got me another pair. I told her if no one had saw that I would've picked it up. She laughed and assured me she saw it. Long story short I can't wait to eat here again.

Smoked Salmon Sashimi

My fiancé and I drove 6 hours down from Denton to have a celebratory beach birthday weekend, and after a long day on the road Aka Sushi did not disappoint. The food was amazing, the portions were fair, and the sashimi was fresh, and the service was incredible. Every staff member we spoke with was friendly and treated us like we were special! Towards the end of our meal I mentioned we were traveling for my fiancé's birthday and they surprised us with a free cheesecake! (Which was SO GOOD) Overall a wonderful experience, 10/10 recommend and we will for sure be back whenever we make it down to the gulf again.

I was able to enjoy this place with a group of girlfriends. Everything we ordered was delicious. We just could seem to get sake fast enough (probably an us problem more than the restaurant). The rolls were all great! Really enjoyed the yellowtail fish was so fresh. I would totally come back.

James roll

This place is 10/10. I ordered the James roll and the aka roll and both are so delicious and fresh. The owner made it a point to talk to everyone at the restaurant and treat you like family. The location is centrally located in downtown corpus and there is parking in the back. I highly recommend this restaurant if you are in the area. I went to water oyster across the street the day before and this place is soooooo much better.

These chefs behind the bar are amazing. Spend a few minutes sharing what you like and let then work magic. #lowcountrycajun

The service is always on point and helpful for recommendations across their wide selection. Their traditional nigiri is consistently solid and the fish quality stands out. I've tried quite a few rolls over time, and the Amigos Forever roll is easily one of my favorites. If you're into fried rolls, Dokyo has one of the best selections in town. The bulgogi is another dish I keep coming back for, super flavorful and always hits. Also worth mentioning: their cold-water oysters. They have a noticeably different flavor compared to most oysters around Corpus, which makes them a cool addition to the menu. Great food, great vibe, and plenty of variety. Definitely a spot I find myself returning to often

We went on a Friday night without reservations, which felt like a gamble, but the off season timing and bad weather worked in our favor. We ended up grabbing two open seats at the sushi bar, which turned out to be the best spot in the house. Our waitress, Kaylee, was great. Friendly, attentive, and she knew the menu well. Drinks stayed full, food came out at a good pace, and she never interrupted the flow of our conversation. We started with a couple of hot apps. The pork gyoza, steamed and pan seared, was solid. But the torched wagyu stole the show. That's the kind of dish you think about later and fantasize about having again. Sitting at the bar made the experience. CJ was the sushi chef working in front of us and he brought a lot of positive energy to the night. He checked in with us, shared a few samples of rolls he was working on, and clearly enjoys what he does. It added a lot to the experience. We ordered the Stevie Ray, Rainbow Roll, Don't Fear the Reaper, and the Prodigy. Every roll was excellent. The Rainbow Roll is one of my favorite classic rolls. It's always been my go to at any sushi spot as it's simple and clean, which makes it a good test of quality, and this was one of the best I've had. The space looks great inside and has a solid atmosphere. The menu has a lot of great options, the rock and roll theme to the menu is fun, and the service continues to stand out. We'll be back. If you can grab a seat at the sushi bar when CJ is working, do it.

The steak was surprisingly tender and flavorful, I just wished there was more of it. It was cut super duper thin. The spring mix also wasn't my favorite because it was very spinach forward. I would have opted for more rice but also the hana rice wasn't that great. More mushy than what I was used to and didn't have any green tea extract or coconut taste which is fine. I think it would be great if the preset bowls had more sauces on them but you definitely can add other stuff to it as well. Workers were nice! I also tried the hana boba drink which had very little flavor but I'm a boba snob. I think the boba should have been soaked in some kind of brown sugar or syrup because it's super bland and the drink is pretty mild as well. The flan/custard in the drink is solid though. It is very clean inside and the perfect meal to bring to the beach. I will say I saw something about miso soup but it wasn't explained very well. The menu is also hard to read and a little overwhelming so I appreciate the preset bowls.
