I've been going to Z Counter for years now, and the food has always been consistent. I've only eaten inside once. Most of the time I order takeout or delivery. On the occasions I've gone in, the restaurant has always appeared clean and well kept. Customer service can be a little hit or miss, which matches what some other reviewers have mentioned. I've had visits where the staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, and others where I was simply stared at while waiting to order without so much as a greeting. It hasn't been bad enough to keep me away, but it's noticeable. The food is why I keep coming back. The bánh mì sandwiches are excellent, especially the short rib version. My wife is obsessed with the green onion pancake, and I wish I knew the recipe for the dipping sauce they serve with it. The pork belly steamed buns are absolutely worth ordering, and the crispy pork belly rice is still my favorite dish on the menu. The rich pork belly, fried rice, fresh salad, and vinaigrette all work really well together. If you haven't been, it's worth a visit. Been coming here for years, the food is always amazing and this is my favorite restaurant in CC. My absolute favorite thing on the menu are the green onion pancake wraps with beef, they're so delicious. The beef is always juicy and tender, in all of their dishes. I tried a new bowl, the r&b bowl, which has beef rib, sausage, and pork and a fried egg on top. Everything had good flavor and I enjoyed the bowl, but I prefer their other bowls, such as their vermicelli and stir-fry bowls. OMG. This place is absolutely spectacular! I was skeptical at first because their menu of various Asian items is just too diverse and there are so many options. But I was blown away as was my family. The crispy pork belly fried rice was like a party in my mouth. The spam musubi was super flavorful and perfectly seasoned. (I recently traveled to Oahu where I ate musubi almost every day, and I think Z Counter's musubi might be better.). I also enjoyed the Sloppy Cake. I can't quite explain what it is, but I just know I really liked it. We also tried the pork belly bun but we were inhaling the other food and forgot to snap a photo. That was good too. Been a customer since college a total of 8 years now. It's a must visit every time I'm in town. If family come to CC without me they know to bring some home for me. It's a CC staple!!! To be honest I never eat here, but my husband is obsessed. We used to live in Corpus and he would go all the time for their sloppy cakes and pork belly pancit. Now any time we go back to Corpus, it's a requirement that he gets his Z Counter. When you walk in there are a few tables and a wall full of pictures for their menu. I love that you can see what the items look like instead of just looking at the written menu hanging above the register. You order at the front and they give you your cup and a number before you go sit at a table. Service is pretty average for a sit down place since everything is made fresh to order. Me and my sister wanted to try a new place around the area and thus place had great reviews, so we decided to try it out. The parking in the area was vast since it was located in a shopping center. Once inside we were quickly greeted and we're helped by the employee. They had pictures of menu items on the wall and the server was very helpful with their options. Z Counter was a nice find while visiting family. This is a small, fast-paced location but definitely worth the trip. It took us a good fifteen minutes to place our order because their menu is extensive and everything sounded so tempting. The staff could tell we were new, I guess we had a look of both lost and excited! They answered our questions without hesitation even though the place was crazy busy. We decided on the pork bahn mi, chicken pancit, the pork belly rice bowl, steamed buns with pork belly & the counter donuts. All pork entrees were tender and smothered in a sticky marinade. The rice and noodles were cooked to perfection. The bahn mi bread had the perfectly baked crunch. The steamed buns were airy and generously filled. The counter donuts often visit me in my dreams lol. I have not been back to this restaurant for awhile. Today I stopped by and ordered a crispy chicken leg with fried rice and some soup for dining in. Let me tell you: I'm very disappointed. As you can see on the picture, the crispy chicken leg was served in a foam box. What is this kind of service? This foam box is extremely not good for your health, especially with hot food. I try to remove plastics and one-time use plates/ boxes out of my life. And that's the reason why I try to dine-in and not doing take-outs (take-outs are boxed in foam or plastics and I just don't want those anymore). I know it's my personal preference, but for dining in, I expect it's served in a decent plate. My question is, what kind of service do I get comparing to order take-out? And I gave tips. They should remove the tips line on the receipt then. Probably I won't come back if they continue to serve in foam box. It's not good for your health (see the burnt marks on the picture below from putting hot chicken on a foam box), its not good the enviroment. I love to support a business that care for customers' health and the enviroment more than this!!! P/S: I talked to the couple sitting on the table next to me. They agreed that using foam containers for food is bad and it's "very wasteful". They would prefer that Z Counter serves food in a REAL BOWL like before the pandemic. And I'm sure the owners would never serve their kids at home fried chicken on a foam plate. But they are totally okay with serving their customers like that. read more

We really didn't know what to expect when our relatives brought us to a place called "Z Counter." They assured us that this has some of the best Asian-fusion to be had, so we took them at their word. They definitely weren't wrong. Probably the oddest and most unique fusion menu I've seen. Between Japanese, Chinese, and Vietnamese, I think they have a little bit for everyone, with some American decadence thrown in. We decided to go with the Mongolian Tater Tots, Sloppy Buns, and the Green Onion Pancake wrap, all of which were pretty amazing. For the Mongolian Tater Tots and Sloppy Buns, that is where the sprinkle of American decadence comes in. For the former, a bowl full of delicious tater tots, tossed in with delicious sauce, cheese, and Mongolian beef. For the latter, we had tasty and soft steamed buns, stuffed with good ol' sloppy-joe mix. However, as good as the first two were, the Green Onion Pancake wrap stole the show. Two crispy crepes filled with rice, green onions and pork belly, this is some Asian-fusion that is out of this world. Tasty and filling, it is worth the visit for this dish alone. So yet again, we find more great places to come back to during our annual Corpus Trip. Looking forward to next year's visit to Z Counter to see what other delectable concoctions they will have available. read more

Kudos to the kitchen staff for preparing a dish that was tops in presentation, taste, and price. It's been more than a day, but I can't get over the sweet chewiness of the meat. As I was savoring every spoonful, I couldn't help but compare and contrast my meal to the pork adobo of my ancestral homeland, the Philippines. Speaking of the Philippines, Z Counter also serves pancit. Non-Filipinos know pancit as noodles. Please don't tell my mom, but Z Counter's version of the Pinoy party fixture is just as delicious as hers. Interestingly enough, one bowl can feed nearly three people.
