This is absolutely the worst company I have ever had to deal with, by far! They made over a dozen errors while installing our brand new roof. See the images below with nails going though the brand new shingles. As they were installing the roof, if they mis-nailed, they could have pulled the ruined shingle up right then and replace it. Hoyt roof chose to leave them and continue laying shingles. Then they tried to get away with just leaving the mistakes. Criminal! The Hoyt Roofs salesman told me Hoyt roofs was a solar company. They burned up my new Tesla inverter and then reinstalled the panels without any wire management. Wires were pinched in the brackets, lying flat on top of the roof and exposed to direct sun light. That created a fire hazard on my home endangering my family! After I had an independent inspection by another solar company, Hoyt came back and removed all my panels again. The panels are sitting on the ground and waiting for them to return to reinstall. I signed my contract to do the roof back on March 5th. It is now October 13th. This has been an over 7 month headache with these idiots! Hoyt tried to collect the final payment after lying to me that the permits were pulled and had passed final inspection. I went to city hall and found out the permit for solar was never pulled, and the final on the roof has not passed. As of today, they still do not have the solar permit and nothing has been passed by a city inspector, so it was a complete lie! At this point Hoyt Roofs refuses to correct their errors made during the installation and they want to try to pass off the patch work they did on a brand new roof. As a roofing contractor, Hoyt roof knows the tar used to install the shingles can dry up, shrink, crack and not hold the shingles. One more thing, during the roof installation they came to me requesting an additional payment for "add on work" they claimed they had replaced a bunch of wood and were charging us an additional amount of over $8k without any prior approval from me. Hired Hoyt as a neighbor had used on a house in NB and was pleased with the service. Interviewed several roofing firms and this was the only one that would install Cedur shingles for me. Light weight faux shingles that are 100% fireproof and doesn't get its fireproof rating from the film applied below the shingles of so many other products. The completed the project quick and it looks outstanding. The 95 year old cottage on Balboa Island retained its vintage character and it now has a fireproof roof. Very complicated project as prior owners had just installed roofs on top of roofs, Hoyt delicately removed all 3 of them and built a new base before putting roof on. The cottage is positioned to live another 50-100 years. Hopefully will one of Historical homes to be enjoyed for generations to come. Highly recommend this company. read more

We had to replace our 14-year-old wood shake roof in order to renew our homeowners insurance. Since our home is on the Historic Register and we have Mills Act status, the city was restrictive with what type of Class A roofing they would allow. We decided on CeDUR shingles because they look most like our existing wood shake roof. We got estimates from four roofing contractors that were approved by CeDUR to install their product. Hoyt Roofs wasn't the lowest nor the highest bid in terms of cost, though they were competitive on price. We have a huge amount of roof area (9,000 square feet), so it was a very big job. The project just finished up today, and we are thrilled with the result. The crew always showed up when they were supposed to, were easy to work with, and they cleaned up their work areas every day before leaving. Our project took four weeks (due to rain delays and holidays), though everyone remained hardworking and professional. The results are outstanding. We've had so many neighbors tell us how much they like the new roof, and several have asked us for referral information. We had absolutely no issues at all with Hoyt, which is great considering what a huge project this was. read more

I have used Hoyt Roofs for 3 projects, and they have done an excellent job each time at pricing that was almost always lower than other estimates. They do a great job at blending things in and come in and finish jobs quickly. I was recommended to Hoyt by another experienced company who said putting vents on my garage was too difficult for them given my type of roof. Hoyt came in and said it wasn't a problem. They did speedy work at a price much lower than I was going to pay with the other company, and the vents looked much more hidden and blended than what the other company was planning to do. They also did a rain gutter installation and were transparent with me about my options and the cost to match copper, go half round, and went over color options. The work they did was great, and the gutters blend in seamlessly. Hoyt also repaired a few roof tiles that might have given us issues later, they did quick work. They were able to use extra tiles we had. Overall I am very happy with Hoyt Roofs and will continue to use them. My only critique would be that they are not the best at following up to make appointments, so my tip is to make sure to follow up with them if you don't hear from them in the time frame they set. I contacted Hoyt in late aug regarding a cracked tile on my roof that needed repair . I was ask a few questioned and then told by the gal Angie that someone would call me in Oct when they had availability. I questioned if there was an appointment that would be set at this time or any other confirmation and I was told no. The person who handles the repairs would call when the calendar opened up. Fast forward to now, mid October. I haven't received a call so I followed up with Hoyt . I explained that I never got a call and was wondering where I was at on the list. Angie tells me they are very busy and I must not have responded to a call (I never got a call or vm) , Then proceeds to tell me she never put me on the list because I was suppose to call her back and now they don't have openings until mid December. Let me start off with I'm a renter. I did not contract them nor did I pay them for this work done. Their roofing skills my be good but this review is regarding the poor communication, cleanliness and the personalities of the crew that was onsite doing this work. Tt started off bad, got the notice on Friday that they were starting work on Monday morning. We have a dog and they wanted us to have her inside for 8 hours a day with no access to go to the bathroom. With this short notice that they gave, we didn't have any opportunity to set up places for our dog to go in the meantime. The office staff, Angie.... beyond rude and unable to have a professional business conversation. The staff onsite: they were kind but really didn't interact with them. There wasn't a "boss" on site to speak with, he just showed up at the end of the day. I asked him about cleaning up after every job and he replied with... We do this on every job we do. Angie also said this too, common practice for their business. Unbelievable! The crew onsite left their "food" trash on our driveway/lawns and I'm unsure as to where they use the bathroom but my cameras show my lawn was used. Disgusting! My husband had to go buy a magnet to scan our lawn and drive way daily to get the nails picked up because they wouldn't do it, one time it was over 20 nails. They started before they should, on my roof my 7am when I was told that they wouldn't start until 8am and most days they were there until 7-8pm. It was misiable for us and my dog that couldn't have access to our own yard. As you can see from the photos, my complaint is legit. Let see how the roof holds up. read more

I don't recommend this roofing company for a number of reasons. The customer service is terrible. They're all about getting you to sign the contract and then you get buried in their system. It took 9 months for them to start my home's roof replacement, from the day I signed their contract, the year before. And the contract had issues also, with lots of opportunities for Hoyt to change it after the roof is removed, which they took advantage of. Then after 9 months they called me to leave a message on a Friday evening that they were scheduled to come out Monday morning to start. I was on vacation in another state and had to try and re-schedule them over the weekend via answer machines. Very upsetting! Part of the work involved sloping my roof properly to drain and they charged me an additional $5,000+ to do that. But it puddled in two areas after the first light rain and didn't drain properly. It took another month to try and get it remedied, but they said they couldn't correct it. So I gave up and settled for a warranty extension that won't ever get honored because they'll be gone in 15 years, or at least the guys who promised the warranty will be gone. They were the worst subcontractors I dealt with during my seven month long remodel. And I was a contractor for 30 years and they rank in my top 3 of being the worst company to deal with. I do not leave reviews very often, maybe once every couple years, but I felt it necessary to let others know what they're getting into, based on my experience with Hoyt Roofing. read more

After seeing some of the reviews, we were hopeful to finally find a reasonable Roofing company, but unfortunately, that was not the case! After several phone calls spanning a few weeks, we finally received a call back from David to only find out that we would need to wait another several weeks. It wasn't urgent so we decided to wait it out. Then, randomly, the day after Thanksgiving, they show up with three guys for a small repair??? They look at the work and say they need to come back because they do not have what is needed. Then they come back the following Monday morning, again without notice, and complete the repair in 1 hr, and then slap an over $1000 bill in front of us. When we questioned the bill, we were told that they would file a lien on my property if we don't pay up! This was a horrific experience, and only reviewing them to help others avoid the same mistake. read more

When I bought my house in 2012 it was fully disclosed that the house needed a new roof. It had worn out asphalt shingles installed over the original wood shake shingles. I got away with ignoring this for 5 years. During the "El nino" rain we had winter my roof finally started leaking. Bob T. gave this place a 5 star review so I had this place bookmarked. I called them in a panic and they sent a guy out who patched up the roof where it stayed waterproof for the rest of winter. Not wanting to press my luck I knew 2017 was the year to get a new roof. I wanted Hoyt but got a few more quotes. The price difference between companies for the identical product was shocking. One company was almost double the price and they nickle and dimed every single aspect of the job on top of the already outrageous price. Chuck came to our house and was no-nonsense. Told us the facts on why they're better and gave us a price that included everything except repair to any wood rot/termite damage. Chuck also was the only company to give us a literal stack of references that included house addresses, shingle type, color, etc. My wife and I spent a whole weekend going to dozens of houses to finally pin point the exact style we both loved. I was dreading the process. I thought it was going to be a miserable experience. I was completely wrong. Hoyt made it painless. The demolition crew ripped off 54 years worth of roof and when they left the property was spotless. A couple of stray nails here and there but it was mind blowing how clean they got the place. Unfortunately the install crew didn't follow the same credo of after work clean up which is my only complaint about Hoyt. I was home during one of the days and so was my wife. Honestly the noise wasn't too bad. It's much noisier outside for the neighbors. Inside wasn't bad at all so if you need to stay home for some reason don't dread it. Because my house was so old they did find some wood repair that was needed but the price for it was much less than I was expecting. Because my roof had to be pretty much built from scratch the entire job from start to finish took about a week and a half. They arrived on time every day and worked pretty late only taking a lunch break. They were extremely friendly and had no issue in explaining what they were doing. Any issues or concerns I brought up were taken care of without question. And by issues I mean "could you put another coat of paint on that fascia board? Could you hide that cable a bit better?" The only accident that happened was some ceiling damage but it was repaired the next day like it never happened. My only complaint was the clean up. My drive-way became a very hazardous pile of sharp debris and it stayed there for days after the project was complete. After some angry phone calls it finally got cleaned up. The roof is perfect and looked better than I could have ever imagined. The price was exactly as quoted with zero surprises. We passed inspection and the roof did great during this week's rain downpour. I wanted to wait for the first rain before I wrote this review. If you need a new roof I HIGHLY recommend you check out Hoyt. Start to finish was a great experience and I couldn't be happier with the end result. read more

We originally contacted Hoyt Roofs in January to repair our roof that had shown mold on the ceiling. We were advised to replace the roof (it was lots of termite damage) but because it was a smaller job, they would try to fit us in between jobs or 6-8weeks. We hadn't heard back from them by April so I contacted them again and were told that they could start in 2 weeks. At the end of those weeks, they did start work but it was spread out over multiple 2-4 hour visits over 6 days. Unfortunately on one of these days, the new roof was not waterproofed well enough and the rain that night/early morning flooded our entire room, damaging our tv stand and hard wood floors. They accepted fault for the damage and have been working with us to make the repairs but it's been a long process with my initiating most communication to get these repairs completed. It's now June 1 and we still have not had the room completed. Although they have been fair about the repair process, it's been really inconvenient being put out of that room (and cramped in others because of the extra furniture being displaced) for over a month now for a job that should have been a simple 1-2day job. I don't think that we will go with this company for future roofing needs. read more

My initial call to Hoyt was back in April/May and the initial office person who took my call was very... dismissive. Didn't hear back from Hoyt for about two weeks and when we finally connected, what had originally been a possible roof maintenance call, ended up turning into a full reroofing project for us. The reason I decided to stay with Hoyt and not go with the competition was thanks to Dave. Friendly, and kind, Dave answered the million questions I had, and stopped by daily when the roofing project started until finish. Definitely felt like Hoyt took care of their customers. Although Hoyt's estimate was quite a bit higher than the competition, I went with them due to their years of experience and the fact that they didn't use any subcontractors. Shout out to Poli and Isaac for taking care of our roofing install. Really felt like they went above and beyond to make sure our roof is solid.
