The staff here was very friendly and helpful when ordering and answering questions about the menu. The place itself is warm and rustic, nice to enjoy a regular cafe, that not overly crowded or expensive. The pink me up was delicious and refreshing and the pineapple citrus juice was yummy and normally juices are not that great, but I found there was good balance with sweetness in it. For the grilled cheese with ham and egg, was good, but really wish it had way more cheese and butter toasted every inch of the bread. Otherwise really liked this place and prices were incredibly fair.

Nov 2021- nice view of the little town

Nov 2021- driving back into NYC from a hike near Wallkill area and we needed a restroom stop so we took the next available exit and ended up in this quaint little town Goshen. We spotted 2 little cafes on the Main Street but decided on Howells because it looked more homely. On a Saturday afternoon there were 1-2 families seated in the main dining area. We weren't really hungry but thought best to get a snack if we wanted to use their restroom. So we bought coffees and slices of pie. Both were good, the pie warm and homemade tasting and the cappuccino nice with a good amount of foam. The customer service was friendly. We ended up talking stories with one of the workers or owner? The restroom was clean and overall the entire restaurant looked clean. They have a 2nd larger room with lots of tables. That area was more quiet and provided a nice picture window view of the Main Street. I'd recommend stopping by this place and checking them out if you're nearby.

Seeking an affordable & late weekend brunch on a rainy day, found this cute, popular restaurant right downtown. We quickly found something each of us would enjoy from the broad menu options and got some hot coffee to warm us up. Service was quick and helpful. Close to the Orange Heritage Trail and an amazing longstanding bike shop, we know we'll be returning when we go biking again in New York!

I've always loved Oak & Reed for dinner and brunch but now trying them for breakfast new love…read moreunlocked. The breakfast was simple but then of course Oak & Reed throws in their flair. The eggs were perfectly cooked soft and buttery. And the sour dough toast with that perfect sour dough tang was the perfect edition. Even the coffee in the French press takes the coffee to another level. But talking about Oak & Reed flair the signature waffle was possibly one of the best things I have eaten. The waffle with that pearl sugar is the way a waffle should be made but then they have that waffle filled with Dutch caramel and that mascarpone on top is perfect. The tang, sweetness, butteriness, the crisp yet fluffy waffle it all was an equation for an amazing breakfast item. I could eat that every time I go. Truly amazing. The staff in Oak & Reed is always amazing attentive and kind. Live the open kitchen concept. Especially with my two year old currently in a Ratatouille kick so she wanted to see the chefs while she looked for Remy cooking. All in all Oak & Reed never disappoints.

Unfortunately I have to say this place was just meh!…read more This is one of my friends favorite restaurant, she even wanted to have them cater her wedding. So I was excited when we finally got a chance to try it. And here is where it may have been my fault, maybe I hyped it up too much. So the funny thing when we arrived at the restaurant and I saw another friend. She told me it was her first time and it wasn't good (this was a warning!) she said especially the chicken and waffles. So again maybe it's my fault because I didn't listen. My heart was set on the chicken and waffles and she was right. It was not good. Like how do you mess up chicken and waffles? It was lacking all types of flavor. It was bad. Why 3 stars than? Because their Spicy Pork Congee was amazing! It's an Asian rice dish and everything that lacked flavor in the chicken and waffles was made up in this dish. The problem? This is only an appetizer. It needs to be an entree, which would mean making it a larger portion. It was fantastic! They also had a decent beer selection which we got. The inside of the restaurant is cute. It has so much potential I just think maybe a revamp of the recipes. But maybe another dish would be good. We came for brunch so I don't know how their dinner menu is. I will probably give them another chance because how amazing the congee was I know they have potential to be great.
