Went here with my mom for lunch. I had a quesadilla which was decent but needed more dressing. The side salad had mesclun greens which were black and wilted in areas. Also, the salad was served dry with no dressing. My mom's salad was also the same. We stumbled upon this place looking for the bakery that preceded this business but settled on trying this out. i went here a lot after school with my girlfriends, we loved to get the smoothies and sit in the corner of the joint near the window listening to the cool music. One day we just walked in and it was different, had a different atmosphere. I believe a lot of these reviews are dated because i don't feel like any of them apply to what Howells is today. I've been going to Howells since i started working in Goshen two years ago and i have not had a bad experience. I normally order to take out but my office has eaten in on occasion. I've had a range of items on their menu from salads to burgers to wraps and i have enjoyed them all. I suggest Howells Cafe if you're looking a bite to eat in Goshen. I usually Love this place but this time, the wait was long and my lunch was so disappointing. My wrap had a burrata, roasted red peppers, and mushrooms in it... all of my favorite things. But it was so lacking. Very bland, I had to salt every bite, and there was seriously like, one strip of a red pepper in there and one mushroom. This place is owned by the people who own Howell's (across the street). They started branching off a few years ago at their main restaurant to make some Gluten Free items and specialty foods. Sweet fillings has some very unique and tasty healthy options that the many Delis in Goshen don't come close to having (quinoa salads, etc). They also have a great menu for breakfast and lunch and the best is they are very knowledgable about Gluten Free or other health needs! They have a lot of tasty baked goods with a rotating section every few days. They also make delicious juices and healthy smoothies too! read more

Well I had to take my car into Goshen Sonoco today and we decided to got for breakfast at Howells...it has kind of been a ritual for us..but...I don't know what is going on over there but it was anything but good...I got the short stack with bacon...the pancakes were like eating rubber disks...My husband got eggs with sausage (they brought him bacon but he was too nice too complain)..Are there new owners or something because we have gone there in the past and the breakfast was awesome...now it is not so good..and if you are gonna spend $18.00 you should at least be pleased with your meal..Very disappointed..Oh and by the way the waitress talked so low I could not even understand what she was asking me...Sorry to say after all these year we will not be going back there. read more

Stopped by today, ordered just a regular BLT on white toast with mayo, got back to the office BLT on burnt toast no mayo. Horrible this place used to have really good food. Home fries were like mashed potatoes,asked for ham and Swiss omelette received it with cheddar cheese, could over hear waitress tell cook that the plate also had a side of sausage and then you could hear the microwave beep a short time later. I think the last few reviewers were confusing Howell's Deli & Cafe with Steve's. My mother & I go here for lunch everyday. I like that this place has remodeled and they even have a plasma screen TV. I find their food & their specials tasty. They also serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner (with the exception of August). I personally LOVE the Baily's Cheesecake and the other desserts. Mom & I also enjoy their chai tea, I enjoy it cold and Mom prefers hers hot. Sara (the Owner), Tracy, Sherri, and Jill are all exceptional and friendly. We always are treated with exceptional hospitality. Mom also loves their salads especially the Strawberry, Lipman's, Southwestern, California, etc. If you crave unique salads they have it. read more

I have always loved this place, although the parking can be a bit challenging. Today Sonya and I had a Howell's salad for lunch with Balsamic dressing. Absolutely stunning! All the greens were fresh, the Apple was bright and sharp tasting, The Avocado was fresh and the dressing complimented it perfectly. The greens were fresh and the Chicken cooked perfectly. This was one of the best salads I have had in a long time. I just found out that Sarah has sold the facility, best of luck to her in any future endeavors. Really disappointed that they took almost all the vegan items off the menu! I used to love coming here because of their vegan options and vegan baked goods (including vege chili!). They recently changed the menu and staff. They used to do breakfast sandwiches all day but now only do them before noon, to the disappointment of my husband who loved going for lunch. The staff is nice but they let a woman cut in front of me to order, which is not cool, esp since we've been going there weekly for almost two years. They says they're a healthy restaurant but they added all sorts of heavy items like ham and cheese sandwiches. I would definitely not call it a health cafe anymore. It's owned by the people who own the diner across the street and now the menus are really similar. What's the point in that? I really loved the café the way it was before. Now I'd rather drive all the way to Warwick for health food. I'm not a fan at all of the new menu at Sunshine. It goes against everything we loved about the place. We probably won't be back again. I really like this place. I have had several salads, sandwiches and smoothies and never had a complaint about it. The staff is always friendly to me. I give them a lot of credit because I have been in there when some very inpatient people stop in. They try to give you the best and freshest ingredients and it takes a little time to make, but many people are in a rush. They offer call ahead and pay to beat the lunch rush, but I guess some people don't know. I have never had a bad experience there and I plan to continue to come back. Love it. read more

Terrible catering service! i called to order some trays to pick up for a party I was having. I was told each tray would feed up to 20 people. I ordered 3 trays thinking I was doubling the amount of food I would need. We had 30 confirmed guests. I ordered chicken parmigiana, eggplant parmigiana and chicken marsala. When I opened the trays I was shocked. Not only were the tins small they were overflowing with sauce and cheese and the cheese was stuck to the cover. Since the guests were arriving I had to serve. It was quickly apparent there was not enough food. I called to see if maybe we did not get the entire order. They confirmed my 3 trays and assured me the owner would call. When she did call she told me the 3 trays I had would feed 20 people! I asked her how that was possible if each tray feeds up to 20 people how can 3 trays be only enough food for 20 people? Her reasoning is that it is buffet style so people will take a little bit of everything. OK, but I ordered 3 trays that would feed up to 20 people? After asking over and over again how 3 trays was only enough food for 20 people I gave up. My party was going on while I was in the kitchen arguing with her. I was very upset I was running out of food and the only thing offered by Howells deli was another tray they would rush through and be ready in 30 mins. Not only did I not have time to wait 30 mins I was not about to pay any more money even though she offered me a discount. That was the end of our conversation since that was all she was willing to do. I cannot believe someone in the business of catering would be OK with how that ended. While many people did compliment the food there was also many complaints regarding the amount of chicken in the chicken parm. We wound up with a total guest count of 23. It is amazing to me that buying 3 trays of food that feeds up to 20 people each turned out to feed a total of 23 people. My suggestion to anyone thinking of ordering from the catering menu to rethink using Howells deli. Not only was the quantity quoted very wrong the ratio of chicken to cheese and eggplant to cheese was very off as well. My husband and I tried Howell's for lunch yesterday and decided we are not fans. For starters, it took at least 20 minutes for our food to come, which was not necessary considering what we ordered. My sweet potato fries & my husband's french fries, while crispy, were cold. I asked our waitress for mustard for my fries, and she said she would bring it to us in "a minute", but it never came. My husband said his mushroom burger was 'just okay", and I could have made the veggie burger I had at home myself, but better. When the waitress quickly stopped by to ask us how we were doing, I mentioned that I still needed the mustard I asked for, but she walked away before I could finish what I was saying. She briefly stopped by our table again, literally dropping off the receipt without asking us if we wanted dessert first. We did wind up getting dessert, and my peanut butter pie was really good, and my husband seemed to enjoy his key lime pie. Howell's does have promise as a cute little deli turned cafe, but things here need to be thought out a bit better. First of all, if there is only one waitress or waiter scheduled, this person needs to be a bit more efficient and polite to the customers. The arrangement of the tables was quite awkward. Also, more vegetarian options would have been nice. Most importantly, a better chef needs to be hired if this place is going to pass as a cafe. read more

TERRIBLE SERVICE and VERY RUDE. OWNER asked paying customers to leave after what she thought was enough time that they spent in the café. As paying customers, you should not feel that you are "on the clock" as you enjoy a meal. Owner was also confrontational to customers when they voiced their opinions about the unprofessional behavior. Owner did not care.
