The service saved at least one star that the carpet took away. Man, this carpet - just put it out of its misery already! Food is decent, especially for small town dining. Having to listen to Fox News during lunch left me wishing for other options. Plates are generously portioned and the coffee is good. Diana was our waitress, we liked her a lot. She's really sweet to the little kids here too. Adding edit because... I just can't understand why on this earth anyone would use canned mushrooms for anything these days. I've eaten here several times now, and keep getting disappointed by those pasty little flaps lurking in my food. And darn it, I like (real) mushrooms! read more

I never expect much when pulling off the highway to grab lunch or dinner. Howe Restaurant is amazing! Angelo, the owner and chef, greeted us as we came in. He arrives at 2:30 am to get the soup going. It's a tomato soup with orzo and Greek spices - it's amazing. Try the soup!!!! Our server, P, gave us samples since we'd never heard of it. Our dinners were all fresh and delicious. Angelo said he makes everything from scratch. You can taste it. The meats and desserts are delivered from Chicago, he's very selective about his ingredients. Highly recommend stopping by the next time you're on interstate 80. Warning - it will NOT be a fast stop, Angelo is very talkative. But it's totally worth it!! read more

Great breakfast my daughter had Greek skillet with Texas toast! My wife had the bacon cheeseburger and fries! I had the French toast with two eggs over medium and bacon! A hole in the wall loved by the community! I got the Greek skillet and my boyfriend got the bacon cheeseburger with fries. The gyro in my skillet reminds me of the small local lunch spots in Chicago. Fresh, moist, seasoned well. It went so well with the hash browns and small feta pieces. It was a savory delight! We have heard nothing but great reviews about this place & looked forward to trying them! My husband picked up a pizza on his way home one evening and upon opening the box (at home)- the pizza looked strange. Literally half was cooked & half was undercooked. Toppings separated from the pizza crust. Very unappetizing and neither of us could finish. We called and were told that when my husband came in for breakfast the next day with a group- he would be refunded. Angelo was there and honored the refund & told us that next time we should ask for him to specifically make it. Unfortunately, we had no desire for another. My husband had a large breakfast & thought it was decent. Typical diner food. Recently at a family dinner, 3 more pizzas were ordered from here. While the pizzas actually seemed evenly cooked this time- we still didn't like them! We ended up with stomach aches. We have no desire to go back. read more

We were camping nearby and ate at Howe Restaurant frequently. We ordered a variety of items from the menu. We were never disappointed. Food, price and quantity were all good. Staff was always friendly and helpful. At a glance the price can be intimidating, but we always had leftovers for another meal. The only suggestion I have is replacing flooring. The real treat here is if you happen to have a chance to meet the owner Angelo, a character he is but also a great guy with endless stories to keep you entertained. Went on a Thursday night, pick your seat as it wasn't really crowded. Waitress promptly took our order and brought us our beverages. Husband had chicken fried steak and said it was good. I opted for the lasagna which was good with a lot of meat sauce. More than I could eat so I had leftovers which heated up nicely the next day. Meals were served with soup or salad. The food is decent, but, do not take your family! We live close, so have visited multiple time. We have decided to not ever return. Went with daughter and family, and the owner was yelling profanities at wait staff! We got up and left! He lost a table of 6. Tried talking to him but he was not man enough to face us. He went out the back door when he was told someone wanted to speak to him. We have heard him other times and it us well documented in the community! Felt so sorry for the wait staff. Adequate if you are in desperate need up nutrition. The kitchen help look as if a good scrubbing is in order. Our server is friendly but that is the ONLY POSITIVE. Judging by the menu I am guessing it is not a local mom & pop at you might think with the name Howe Restaurant. I left 1/2 my sandwich and all but two of my french fries. The fries were warm but not a bit of crisp or body to them. They were limp, tasteless mush. I had the party melt minus the mushrooms, so I would have thought the onions would have been generous, but there were barely any on the entire sandwich. My dad ordered biscuits and gravy for his dinner. He said they were cold and not very good. By chance I heard a lady next to our table send back her soup for being cold. Do yourself a favor and drive to Topeka or somewhere and find a true local restaurant. I rarely ever give bad reviews but this deserves one! read more

I grew up with this place basically in my back yard. It's not much but it's home food. Not every option they have is for everybody but they will do their hardest to find something that suits you. This review contains multiple reviews, the first day we ate here we had the large Grilled Chicken Salad, this salad is huge and was really good. The waitress we had was great and attentive. Now the guy behind the register is another story, he was rude to the staff in front of everyone always raising his voice to them. The second and third day the guy that was rude the previous day was not there, the atmosphere in the restaurant was more relaxed. We had Diane as a waitress and she was spot on, she was friendly, attentive and had a great personality. We had breakfast the last two times we ate here, they were quick and delicious. So ask for Diane and tell her you want a deep fried skunks a**, she'll get a kick out of that. read more

Great hamburger, one of the best I've ever had, full half pound with pickles,tomatoes and sweet onions piled sky high. Friendly service and plenty of tempting menu selections. Spotting the other dishes around the restaurant looked pretty wonderful, open faced turkey and beef with loads of mashed potatoes, comfort food to the max. Prices were great and the daily specials are an especially fantastic deal. Only one complaint, the fries tasted has if they had been hanging around a warmer oven a bit to long, they'd lost their crunch. Oh, one other thing first time I've ever had French's Tomato Ketchup, has an odd taste if you've been raised on Heinz. We ran across this restaurant during a long road trip & loved it so much we are planning to stop again on our way back through town. The food was fantastic and the service even better. They even allowed us to bring our small dog in since it was so cold out & we didn't want to leave her in the car. To top it off the owner made our dog a special meatball on the house! It was charming, friendly, reasonably priced & delicious! Very family friendly - Definitely recommend!!! read more
