Not looking for a watering hole but you find one anyway. About sums this one up. The humble looking restaurant/bar is a hidden gem. The food is really good and the patrons inside make the place a wonderful experience. Bartender/s are very nice, funny and keep the locals entertained or it's probably visa versa. Smash burgers are amazing, stuffed portobello mushroom caps are so big I had to use my steak knife! Drinks on the bar are as lively as the drinkers at the bar. This afternoon we went to Backroads for an early dinner with my mom and family to celebrate my birthday. We've been there once before and wanted to visit again. It was pretty busy but we got right in and was seated in the porch area even though it was fairly chilly outside. They had heaters that kept us pretty warm. We did not get appetizers but we all loved our meals. I got the Texas Toast and added a smashburger which I highly recommend. I wouldn't have liked it without as it would have only had bacon as the meat on it and it wouldn't have been enough. Fairly cheap sandwich even with the added burger and it was delicious! Pretty spicy with the jalepenos but great with the Texas toast. My son got the Tavern Burger and added the Yeye sauce. He said it was OK, but the sauce wasn't as special as he was hoping. He'd get something else next time my mom for the pork chop wktb Brussels and loved hers. My wife got smothered chicken... Without the mushrooms (who does that??) and liked hers. 3 of us got the Brussel sprouts as sides and they were on point! Definitely don't go here and not get them. On top of great meals, my mom mentioned that we were celebrating my bday and the server offered us a slice of heaven (Samoan Cheesecake) for free! Amazing. Great time and great place. My friend and I visited this area for a girl's weekend and we are so glad we happened upon Backroads Tavern. Of the three restaurants we visited, we got our favorite meal here. We both ordered the Southwest Explosion Salads. Mine had chicken and she had salmon. These salads were huge and loaded with fresh greens, black beans, corn, tomatoes, onion, shredded cheese and house made tortilla chips. Served with the house made Yee Yee dressing this salad was amazing!!! So many flavors packed into a large salad. Definitely a salad I'd love to have again!! Our service was satisfactory and the atmosphere was fine too. It was a little loud due to a crowd at the bar, but most of the time it wasn't bad. I'd definitely visit here again. read more

This was a rather disappointing trip to Backroads. The wing special had ten large wings. The wings were over cooked and dry. The breading was way too thick and hard. The BBQ sauce was very tasty however it was just drizzled on. We did try the mozzarella sticks and fried mushrooms. The mozzarella sticks were unique. The slightly battered and fried cheese bar was very tasty. The moderately sized fried mushrooms had a thin batter that wasn't too greasy. The mushrooms were nice and firm but cooked thoroughly. The facility was clean. The staff was very friendly and really helped each other out. Service was very good. Making a reservation was very easy. I did find an interesting note on the menu. I had never seen a note asking people to consider tipping the kitchen staff separately. Very interesting! read more

Went on a Wed afternoon, during happy hour and there was only 1 server. Order a chicken sandwich and fries $13 with mayo added, husband ordered fish sandwich with cheese and tartar sauce and loaded fries. When we finally got our food he had no tartar sauce and I had mayo only I told her I wanted mayo added not only she said she'd bring the other toppings on the side. 25 mins later after my husband flagged her down she finally brought my other toppings, by now the sandwich was cold. We were never asked if we wanted anything else to drink either. When I'm paying $13 for a sandwich and fries I don't think it's too much to expect my order to be correct and served in a timely fashion. We were planning to eat dinner there Fri night but I'm seriously reconsidering. read more

We had a great time here. Careful, it's a little dark when you approach it so you may miss the entrance. However you stumble upon it though, be sure to get their mozzarella sticks! The apple butter is a unique but great combo. The service was also great, bringing us more drinks before we even noticed our glass was empty! A great place in a small town. read more

We go there for a quick meal and a quick drink. When you walk in, the restaurant is. modern and up to date. Clean. except for the flies that keep biting your legs. The service is always on the ball. The food is good, but it's somewhat pricey The beer is $2.$2 more than most. It's better than most of the restaurants in the area. So I don't want to complain too much. I will lose them all. if they could lower their prices. and change their meat quality. Be a great restaurant. read more

OK... list is over. I like this place! BUT!! When you Obviously make a mistake? OWN IT!! We know we had a big party, but they took the reservation and threw 1 waitress at us. This was our 2nd visit. It was around 3pm on Saturday and not busy at all. We got to seat anywhere. It looked to be that we were only table for our server and she very slow getting to us even though there were not any customers. She got are drinks and that was fine and good. Then ordered an appetizer of mac and cheese balls. They were good also. When asked about drink again, I asked for a diet pepsi, no ice and she acknowledged she heard me and brought out drink with ice. Didn't say anything just drank it anyway but noted that waitress didn't listen very well. Then we ordered meals. 2- 14oz ribeyes medium well and 2 buckle bunny sandwichs, one as is, and the other without pepperjack and jalapeños, add swiss cheese. When our food came out is when it got bad. The special order for buckle bunny came out regular they blamed on shift change but it was written on ticket. Instead of remaking it they just scrapped off and put on new bun and made it right. Both of are 30 dollar ribeyes were more well done then medium well and very dry and no flavor. I was expecting flavor to pop with that price. Waitress brought us out 2 pieces of cheesecake on the house for the buckle bunny mess up. That was nice but doesn't fix the problems were passed being fixed. Bill was 130 something and never felt we got the service or food to match the price. So unfortunately the waitress got what was left of cash change which would of been less then 2 dollars. Hope this is a learning experience for her. It will be a while before we go back. read more
