    Smothered Chicken with Brussel Sprouts
    Bradley P.

This afternoon we went to Backroads for an early dinner with my mom and family to celebrate my birthday. We've been there once before and wanted to visit again. It was pretty busy but we got right in and was seated in the porch area even though it was fairly chilly outside. They had heaters that kept us pretty warm. We did not get appetizers but we all loved our meals. I got the Texas Toast and added a smashburger which I highly recommend. I wouldn't have liked it without as it would have only had bacon as the meat on it and it wouldn't have been enough. Fairly cheap sandwich even with the added burger and it was delicious! Pretty spicy with the jalepenos but great with the Texas toast. My son got the Tavern Burger and added the Yeye sauce. He said it was OK, but the sauce wasn't as special as he was hoping. He'd get something else next time my mom for the pork chop wktb Brussels and loved hers. My wife got smothered chicken... Without the mushrooms (who does that??) and liked hers. 3 of us got the Brussel sprouts as sides and they were on point! Definitely don't go here and not get them. On top of great meals, my mom mentioned that we were celebrating my bday and the server offered us a slice of heaven (Samoan Cheesecake) for free! Amazing. Great time and great place. Go there!

My friend and I visited this area for a girl's weekend and we are so glad we happened upon Backroads Tavern. Of the three restaurants we visited, we got our favorite meal here. We both ordered the Southwest Explosion Salads. Mine had chicken and she had salmon. These salads were huge and loaded with fresh greens, black beans, corn, tomatoes, onion, shredded cheese and house made tortilla chips. Served with the house made Yee Yee dressing this salad was amazing!!! So many flavors packed into a large salad. Definitely a salad I'd love to have again!! Our service was satisfactory and the atmosphere was fine too. It was a little loud due to a crowd at the bar, but most of the time it wasn't bad. I'd definitely visit here again.

This was a rather disappointing trip to Backroads. The wing special had ten large wings. The wings were over cooked and dry. The breading was way too thick and hard. The BBQ sauce was very tasty however it was just drizzled on. We did try the mozzarella sticks and fried mushrooms. The mozzarella sticks were unique. The slightly battered and fried cheese bar was very tasty. The moderately sized fried mushrooms had a thin batter that wasn't too greasy. The mushrooms were nice and firm but cooked thoroughly. The facility was clean. The staff was very friendly and really helped each other out. Service was very good. Making a reservation was very easy. I did find an interesting note on the menu. I had never seen a note asking people to consider tipping the kitchen staff separately. Very interesting!

This place was recommended to us not by a tourist but by a friendly relative of the Amish owner, Brenda Slabaugh (everyone in this settlement is close-knit). Like other in-home dining venues, the spacious room also serves as a social gathering and worship place for the Amish. Nearly everything in the huge kitchen is prepared from scratch and served family-style. The fixed menu includes bread, salad, chicken, roast beef, noodles, mashed potatoes, cooked vegetables, and assorted pies. Everything we tasted was phenomenal. Homemade peanut butter and jam, spread on fresh-baked bread, were ethereal. The 'colorific' salad was colorful indeed and tossed in a savory vinaigrette. White meat chicken fingers and dark meat were breaded and baked (not fried) to perfection. The beef (pot roast, perhaps) was fork-tender and juicy. All of the side dishes and pies were just as wonderful. Brenda and family members who helped her prepare and serve the meal were friendly and attentive to our needs, and happy to answer questions about Amish lifestyle and customs. Of course, a 'modern' restroom is available. This business is aimed at large parties and tour groups, but it's available to smaller parties on Wednesday evenings. Advance reservations are required

I was glad to get my visit in, as they are seasonal and will be closing for the winter next week. This time, there were about 12 cards in front of me, and it took about 30 min to get through the line. I know from looking at past pics that their prices have gone up (hasn't everything?!) , but nothing too extreme -- maybe $.50-ish on items, still really great deals. I ordered a cheeseburger/ fries/ drink combo, a small pup cup for my dog, and a chocolate cherry milkshake. I also ordered extra packets of ketchup and mayo. So my one :( is that I got my bag, an no ketchup or mayo. Then I asked for some and was given ketchup pakets but told mayo was an extra charge. How much? $.60. Meh, no thanks. Not that that the $ would have mattered, but I think at a burget joint, you shouldn't charge for that as a customer service issue. Especially when things like lettuce, tomato, onion etc are already included if you want them! Anyway, the buger was good, the fries were a little salty (they seem frozen, not homemade, but I ate them all), the shake was tasty, and my dog loved his pup cup! #yum #ReviewsByRL

Kind of pricey if you ask me. They added corn dogs to their menu however they are just frozen ones. I thought they were homemade batter dipped or something special. The line was extremely long which was not surprising as there is not many other choices to eat in town. Expect a wait if you go the evening time. With that being said, the hot dogs were still very good.

Decided to find a place we've never been that was between BC and home. Discovered Cork and Barrel. Looked good. Reviews were great. Called and spoke with the owner (so kind) to make sure we could get a table, and to Angola, IN we traveled. The owner warmly greeted us by name (per our phone conversation) and we were seated at a quiet, casually elegant corner table. Decor is beautiful, subdued. Music played softly. Lights were dim. (We recognized the location which several years ago was "The Hatchery.") Lovely ambiance. Food and beverages were wonderful! We shared a cold and crunchy wedge salad which the kitchen split for us. As our main meal, we shared three dishes from the tapas menu: smoked salmon, ahi tuna, and 3 mini shrimp tacos. All are pictured and described below. Our server, Megan, was a pure joy! We also were treated to the bruschetta...a nice surprise! SO fresh! Yum! Will we be back? YES! Should you try Cork and Barrel? ABSOLUTELY!
