My quest to experience an awesome lake view while having an incredible dinning experience took me to Wall Lake Tavern. I'm giving WLT three stars because the food was pretty good, the service was prompt and the facility was very clean. The view of the lake was very poor and there was no outdoor dinning. The little restaurant is a bit confusing to start. You can park on one side and enter the family room or the opposite side of the building and enter the bar. Neither side has much appeal or view of the lake. The building is dated. It's not overwhelming attractive or modern. It is cozy, lake decor appropriate and very clean! The bar area is very small and not particularly inviting. Now on to the food...For starters we ordered the fried mushrooms. These were definitely hand dipped as they weren't very uniform in appearance. The breading was nice and thick with a small amount os seasoning. The hand dipped process left the small crumbles and cling ons - which we loved! The mushrooms were very meaty and only slightly greasy. These were very good!! The waitress seemingly gave us 12 choices of sauces. We picked the horseradish mustard sauce. This sauce had the look of mustard but almost no mustard or horseradish zing. Actually, the breaded mushrooms were so good by themselves...the odd sauce only spoiled the taste. I ordered the special perch dinner with a side salad and Cole slaw. The side salad was very plain. The side vegetables were almost nonexistent. The lettuce, while fresh, had no burst of flavor due to very little garnishments. The salad dressing was a small cup of Ken's salad dressing. I wasn't fond of Ken's honey mustard. I suppose it's better to us a dressing pro than try to make a dressing yourself if that isn't your forte. Overall...the salad was not appetizing. The perch was excellent! It was lightly breaded and not greasy to taste. The fish tasted fresh. My wife had the cod and she also thought it was very good. The tarter sauce was pretty good as well. It was a mayo based sauce that was a little thinner than you might expect. This made it easy to pour, dip and spread. The sauce only had a slightly sweet taste and hint of pickle. Overall...the tarter sauce accented the fish well without dominating the taste. The Cole slaw was not good. The slaw had very small pieces of cabbage and the Mayo base made it soupy. The Cole slaw seemed to be very peppery to go along with a very bland overall taste. Wall Lake Tavern was an interesting experience. We were very impressed by how friendly and prompt the staff was. For an older place...we were really struck by how clean and organized things were. And there were some good items that were pretty good.

Great food and service! Recommend the Broasted chicken and fresh fish. Swiss mushrooms and pea salad is great as well...

Good food, fast friendly service. We had the family room all to ourselves. Solid drinks. Can't really beat it on the lake.

Service was great. Had the perch, it was in strips n fried. Ok. Fry's were average. Not much of a lake view.

A lakeside treasure. The fish dinner was delicious and reasonably priced. We will return very soon.

This facility is a little older but in good repair and clean. It's decor is a little dated. The team here was very nice and prompt with service. Sometimes you don't get this full treatment unless you are a regular. My wife had the fish tacos and Cole slaw. She really liked the presentation and taste. The fish was flaky and moist. The dressing and lettuce were fresh tasting. The Cole slaw was okay. It was chopped somewhat fine with a slight mayo base. The cabbage was fresh but it really could have used more mayo with some seasoning. My side salad was very plain. The items were fresh but nothing to really distinguish the iceberg lettuce taste from the dressing. It was just kind of there. The onion rings were very good. They had a thin piece of onion in a little bit heavier batter. The batter has a slight salty flavor and retains some greasiness. That said...I really liked the onion rings. I had to try the fish and ribs combo when I saw it delivered to another table. The ribs were very tender and moist. The BBQ sauce was slightly sweet with a nice BBQ spice. The fish and tarter sauce were outstanding. The white fish was very flaky and moist. The portion sizes are pretty big. The tarter sauce was a bit more plain with a slight hint of sugar and relish. If you like fish...give Turkey Lake Tavern a try!

We have tried dropping in here during a busy Friday or Saturday dinner hour. The wait can be very long as Destination 814 is rather popular in these parts. You can find Destination 814 near the downtown Lagrange area. Head north on IN 3 or I69 about an hour. Destination 814 is a kind of a "modern" bar located in a more rural-small town area. The inside would remind you of a typical small sports bar (see pictures). The whole place is rather small but nicely decorated with sports stuff. The bar is very attractive - lots of back lit bottles to entice you. It only seats about 11 people. The dining room seats about 46 people. It can handle a couple groups of 6-8 people. There is an outdoor area that will seat about 16 people. The team here was very friendly and hustled the refills and food. They had plenty of help on this night. The menu is not overly large but it seem to have something for everyone (see picture). Salads, burgers, wraps, flatbreads and a variety of entrees are reasonably priced in the $15-20 range. They have a large menu for bourbons, whiskeys, beers and cocktails. Note that none of the drinks have prices - which is becoming more common place. We started with the garlic buns. These are pretty popular and have good reviews for good reasons. They are soft and buttery with a slight garlic taste. The beer cheese had a nice taste and thickness. Easy to dip. Not a strong cheese flavor. My wife had the Crab Rangoon flatbread. She really liked the amount of crab in the sauce. The crunchy wontons were a nice add. The sweet Asian chili sauce was fairly standard. The buttered chicken flatbread (Indian style) sounded delicious as well. My cod basket was very good. Three surprisingly large pieces of fish amongst French fries. The cod was fresh tasting and flaky. The batter was thin and stuck to the fish well. Not a lot of distinguishable seasoning in the batter. The tartar sauce was slightly sweet mayo mixture with a very mild dill taste. The fries were a little bit thicker in size and had a slight crisp. The seasoning gave you some salty southwest styling. Overall, I would encourage you to drop in and try Destination 814. Go early, lunch to 5p, if you are making a special trip...if you want to avoid the big crowd.
