Turkey Lake is near the lake with limited views of the lake. They are across the street from the lake and no outdoor seating to enjoy the lake. This facility is a little older but in good repair and clean. It's decor is a little dated. The team here was very nice and prompt with service. Sometimes you don't get this full treatment unless you are a regular. My wife had the fish tacos and Cole slaw. She really liked the presentation and taste. The fish was flaky and moist. The dressing and lettuce were fresh tasting. The Cole slaw was okay. It was chopped somewhat fine with a slight mayo base. The cabbage was fresh but it really could have used more mayo with some seasoning. My side salad was very plain. The items were fresh but nothing to really distinguish the iceberg lettuce taste from the dressing. It was just kind of there. The onion rings were very good. They had a thin piece of onion in a little bit heavier batter. The batter has a slight salty flavor and retains some greasiness. That said...I really liked the onion rings. I had to try the fish and ribs combo when I saw it delivered to another table. The ribs were very tender and moist. The BBQ sauce was slightly sweet with a nice BBQ spice. The fish and tarter sauce were outstanding. The white fish was very flaky and moist. The portion sizes are pretty big. The tarter sauce was a bit more plain with a slight hint of sugar and relish. I love their fish! Yes I know Wisconsin is supposedly the king of fish fries but this place is a worthwhile destination. Don't let the address fool you. The restaurant is in Elmira, IN. All three of us opted for the Fish Dinner. I got onion rings with mine. I was tempted to get the Pork Tenderloin Sandwich but the place is known for its fish. This is my second or 3rd time there and I hope to be back sooner than later. read more

We used to love this fish. I know it has changed ownership several times but we were assured the fish hasn't changed. It was really awful. So greasy (and it tasted like old grease). This is the place for fried fish in northeast Indiana and has great tartar sauce. Building is a little dated and there is not a great view of the lake, but if you like fried fish that's what you order, you won't be disappointed. I'd avoid the salads and slaw, but that's not what you go there for. read more

We did out drive down a road and eat somewhere we've never been today and found Turkey Lake Tavern. Had their fish which was ok but a little overpriced and not as good as our local VFW. Didn't care for the runny over sweet tarter sauce but portions were large and brought enough home for supper. Their homemade clam chowder was wonderful though. Service was ok but there was only one other table of 3 in the restaurant at noon. Inside was dated for sure. Sign outside said new owners so maybe some more modern,cleanliness coming?? Overall was ok but wouldn't make the hour drive there just to go there. read more

If this is the one on Big Turkey Lake, I wanted to write a review. I grew up in Indiana and we always loved the fish here. And their house dressing for the salad is a type of homemade french that is out of this world!! I'm here visiting family and had to stop by for a fish sandwich! However, if I were rating on food alone it would get 4.5 stars...but dang...the prices are through the roof!! I had a sandwich, fries, salad, and a beverage for $14!!! That's expensive! I live in San Diego now and I don't even pay that price there! What gives? That made rate them only three stars due to pricing. That said, I think you should go to the original Fish of Stroh in Stroh just a mile away and pay much less. read more

To be fair, this is my friend's favorite fish place. I've been there twice now. The first time I had the fish dinner. My fish was overcooked and it took about 30 minutes to get our food. The 2nd time I tried the baby back ribs. After waiting over an hour to get our food, my ribs were cold. I sent them back. I'm assuming they microwaved them because what little meat was on them was so tough that I finally gave up trying to cut it and just ate my sides. Also, even though I prefer "wet" ribs to "dry", these were drowned in bbq sauce. I assume that the ribs were not cooked with the sauce since the sauce was colder than the actual ribs when I got them the first time. Oh, and the salad is just torn up iceberg lettuce with nothing added to it. read more

Fish is awesome. The place is filthy, though. Like, really filthy. The chairs are buffet chairs from decades past and covered in grimy, greasy fingerprints. The server was actually vacuuming the ancient carpet all around us while we were eating, and the floors needed it so bad I overlooked that rudeness. Went to the ladies room and was appalled by the condition and smell; went to the men's room instead and somehow survived using the $hit filled toilet. First time eating at Turkey Lake Restaurant and Tavern and was very disappointed. Although the fish is great the rest of the meal was just so so. For example the lettuce in our salad was brown and had no tomatoes or other vegetables other than lettuce. The waitress was not really friendly and did not take her time with us. Stopped by for lunch on a recent trip through the area. It was 12:30 PM, fairly busy, but only one waitress who was also the cashier. She never stopped at my table to say, "I'll be with you in a minute" so, I sat there for nearly 15 minutes before she ever got to me. I ordered the fish sandwich and an order of fries. There is no combo or basket for a fish sandwich which seems a bit odd. and, as others have commented, it's a bit pricey. A fish sandwich with a side of fries comes to almost $9.00. Add a drink and you're at $11.00 or higher. The sandwich was awesome but the fries weren't even warm when they reached the table. They were downright cold! I even ordered them crisp which meant they should have been VERY hot! The waitress made good and got me a fresh batch but they weren't crisp. I guess hot AND crisp aren't possible.
