I've passed this shop so many times and wondered what exactly it was - is it ice cream? is it candy? what is it? lol One random day, my partner and I decided to google it and we were excited to learn that it is a candy/bakery shop. As a newcomer to Yonkers, I was especially happy to learn what's in my area. I decided to stop in on a Saturday afternoon to check it out. Upon walking in, I was immediately greeted warmly by a woman whom I assume is the owner. The shop is small but filled with a variety of treats and almost anything you can think of - ice cream, candy bars, lollipops, candy themed gifts, and drinks, as well as baked treats like cupcakes. I specifically wanted to try the cupcakes because they claimed to have a #1 best selling blue velvet cake. I ended up purchasing 2 lollipops and 2 cupcakes (blue velvet and vanilla). The blue velvet cupcake was just OK, in my opinion. The cake was soft with a nice buttercream frosting, but nothing that blew me away or stood out to me as THE best I've ever had. I did not end up eating the vanilla cupcake due to an unrelated illness later that weekend. Nonetheless, it was nice to finally try this establishment out. In terms of service, the woman who helped me was super sweet and kind. She also thanked me and wished me well upon leaving. The store itself appeared clean and organized and I really liked the variety of offerings. Some of my favorite childhood candies were readily available and overall pricing was fair. I'd return in the future for their candy selections but I don't think it would be my go-to for baked goods. Highly recommended otherwise! read more

I was here a year ago to get a cake which I was not happy with but I came back to grab some cupcakes, cause I remember enjoying them and I was very impressed! Their cupcakes are delicious! I got a red velvet, a Boston cream, salted caramel, and a strawberry shortcake. All of them were so good, even better than what Iremembered. The cupcakes are $3.50 each & so worth it. TLDR: expensive and inconvenient policies for an average product. $10 extra to write happy birthday on a cake, no large bills accepted and 4% credit card surcharge. the cake I ordered was moist, but nothing special flavor profile wise. I was looking to order a bday cake, and saw this bakery online. It looked awesome so I went to check it out 2 weeks before the birthday. When I entered, I was told that they were not taking orders for cakes right now, and don't know when they will be but try to call a few days later to see if they are then. - Somewhat weird, but okay. While in store, got a few cupcakes to try out and they were good, I also looked through their cake book to see a description of each, bc this was not available online. The girl working was friendly and told me they charge extra for credit cards, they also do not accept $50 or $100 bills. Inconvenient, but ok. She also said- you don't have to come in to order, just call us next time. I walked out feeling like I looked like a weirdo for trying to do an in person order. So I call on the date they had told me to, and they were accepting orders. Then they told me that it would be $10 extra to write happy birthday on the cake. - ?? Seriously?? I said fine, forget the writing. Then they reminded me of the credit card surcharge, I said oh I'll just pay cash. Then told me they need payment to take the order. AKA- I could not pay when I pick up the cake and had to pay now. Therefore, I had to pay the stupid 4% surcharge. Again, I get it, but then why did the girl originally tell me I didn't have to bother coming in to order, and just to call. It would have been nice if she said "you can call to order if you're using a card, or come in person for cash". I like to support local businesses but this was a lot of hoops to jump through and added expenses. I thought at least the cakes gonna SLAP. But when we tasted it- we were all like eh. It wasn't anything special. I was expecting it to be more like a good humor bar flavor based on the description. Next time I'll just get a cake from a grocery store. read more

Totally awesome! Very creative and kind owner/baker. Purchased cupcakes for a friends bday, and everyone was blown away. For me, the frosting was the highlight, but Im one of those people who like to lick the frosting off and sometimes "have no room" to eat the cupcake! Just a heads up, its a small shop, so if you are looking to bring enough for a big party, I would recommend either calling, or better yet, going there in advance. Its not the kind of operations, at least from what I could tell, that you could walk in and order like 100 cupcakes and leave with them right away. Went in on New Year's eve. Had a huge craving for cupcakes. I got 2 vanilla, 1 strawberry cheesecake, and a red velvet. They were all great. The strawberry cheesecake was to die for! Loved how the cupcake had a real strawberry filling. The staff was awesomely nice. Considering I caught them right before closing time they were happy to see me. I stopped by here a few months away, right before Covid hit hard and shops starting shutting down. I was greeted by the owner, who was incredibly nice and sweet. She explained various flavors of cupcakes (so many to choose from!) and cookies. I ended up with 6 cupcakes, a few red and blue velvet and I don't recall what else, plus an oatmeal raisin, peanut butter, and chocolate chunk cookies. I was a fan of the cupcakes, the cake itself was light and fluffy, the frosting was perfectly sweetened. I usually have issues eating baked goods from American places because the Asian bakeries go light on the sugar, but How Sweet It Is did it just right. Unfortunately, I was not a fan of the cookies. Many of the reviews seemed to praise the cookies as being thick and Levain like, but that wasn't my experience. Perhaps what I ordered wasn't as fresh. The shop also sells chocolates and candies. While it is a bit out of the way for me, I would like to come by and browse given the chance. read more

I love this little pastry shop! The people here are so kind & welcoming which is appreciated. I love that you can sit down and enjoy the ambiance of the shop. They have things ranging from "classic" candies, to homemade vegan (as well as non-vegan) options. Personally, my favorite that I'd recommend to anyone that stops by, are their homemade vegan options; like their vegan chocolate chip icecream made with rice milk. Delicious! I'm looking forward to seeing what more vegan options they offer. Seeing as how the neighborhood doesn't have many vegan friendly businesses, this is greatly appreciated. Daughter wanted Blue velvet for her 28th bday. Usually go ALL the way to Nyack to Carousel- WHY did I Ever do such a thing. There is ABSOLUTELY NO comparison. How Sweet it is was MUCH better cake. Lighter, fluffier, monster and the PERFECT amount of sweet. The Buttercream icing was great- We switched out the cream cheese and only had that in the middle and the Decorations were Sea Blue and Green with Gold writing. Just Lovely! read more

The key lime cupcake and the cookie were probably the best. I found the salted caramel a little sour tasting and ended up throwing it out. OMG! Amazing cupcakes. I got a 1/2 dozen cupcakes all different flavors: snickers, Reese's, chocolate with strawberry, brownie, carrot, and cookie dough. All of them were amazing. I got them for a birthday treat for my partner, but I really wanted them for myself once I had a taste of the Reese's cupcake. I will be here a Second time I'm coming here and still amazing. I purchased one dozen chocolate covered strawberries which were delicious and sweet. A wonderful addition to the Woodlawn area...which pretty much had up to this point a bakery, a florist, a couple of deli's, and 487 bars. Well now it has a candy and cupcake store. I still have a sweet tooth so I'm down for some nostalgia candy or chocolate-covered potato chips (which kick ass here). I'm not a big cupcake guy, but the selection is impressive, and I do like the version of hostess cupcakes they have. A large selection of candies, with a handful of "old school" candy that will bring back nostalgia to anyone born in the 80s/90s. I heard they are known for their cupcakes, especially their Blue Velvet. This place is definitely on my list of "I need to come back asap!" Agreed - a great addition to McLean Ave. I've been in twice and each time the person behind the counter was really friendly. The assorted malt balls are delish & everything looks great. There is a room in the back for birthday parties, etc. and on the wall are different molds for creating personalized chocolate pops and such. A woman in one of my night classes (www.puppetsbygwen.com) says she does a puppet show there once a month but I haven't been able to find the schedule for that. Ok so. Where do I begin? Auria (the owner) has such amazing friendly warm energy. Incredibly welcoming, and talked with such pride about everything in the store; we could tell this is really her passion. The decor in the store in inviting, and displays all of the yummy products. 1) the Italian ice. Do not be fooled ya'll, this is creamy, amazing "coquito" style ices. Literally I have never seen this in Yonkers! Amazing! 2) the cake truffles. I don't even have words. Outstanding. 3) the freaking cupcakes. I happen across the interweb in search of something sweet and as if being beckoned by the Angel of confectionerys herself (counter person :-) via Yelp (I'm new to area) I was brought to a wonderland of confectionery delights and wonder, I expected a golden ticket of sorts was necessary for entry, candy candy candy so much rich and meaningful Candy, everything that should have been in that time capsule saved in 1986 until I was old enough to buy my own darn CANDY lol, my only delimma was where do I start?, (so they would stop winking at me and playing "BEN"-MJ :-) I purchased 4 cupcakes, plus a Blue Velvet cupcake (currently in the cupcake protection program, we'll call it Sam :-) I tried the Strawberry Cheesecake cupcake (pic taken before the happening :-) it was absolutely perfect, fresh, moist, rightfully sweetened and crafted with real strawberry tartish filling........mmmmm. Is another bar really necessary? Candies here, cupcakes there, and nostalgia everywhere. I noticed a small banner showing puppet shows occur here. This place smells like candy heaven the minute you walk in. The owner is as sweet as the candy. I had the snickers cupcake and it was beyond delicious. Flavorful yet light. It didn't leave you with that overly sweet heaviness that some cakes do. It was perfect. I also tasted the large chocolate peanut butter cups, kept at counter with all the other chocolate awesomeness and it was delicious. Lots of chocolate! This place is great.
