The prices almost double of HD for the oil spray I needed. The worst part was the bad attitude of both ladies. we went here at this location a couple weeks ago. Love their plants and the variety. Bought $90+ in plants and planters. The girl who checked us out clearly did not want to be there. No smile and no conversation. Young girl at the end cashier. So my story does not end here....on our way home I realized I had used the restroom and left my phone in there!!! Of course, I am judging the rest of the employees by the one who checked us out. No, I shouldn't have, but I was for a second. So we dashed back there and walked in...of course the phone was gone. I asked Ms. Friendly cashier if they discovered a phone that was left. She just said "no" and she was checking out another customer. So I asked where the manager was and she said, "somewhere out there". So Long story short...found the manager who was very friendly and accommodating!! Yes, someone turned a phone in. While the manager was bringing me up to the front, my husband had called my phone and was listening to it ring at one of the cashier stations. He was politely asked to step away from the cashier station...hahaha. We all had a good laugh and I was ecstatic that my phone was found! I gave her a monetary tip. If you're on a budget, I suggest you shop around because Home Depot or Lowes often has some of the same plants for a much lower price. To their credit, the Houston Garden Center has some good specials which usually come in the Sunday paper or in the mail. read more

The owner of the Houston Garden Center in The Woodlands, Texas (24800 I-45) is extremely rude and unhelpful. He wouldn't let his employee go get a tree and carry it out for me as well as bags of dirt. He asked if H-E-B would carry out things like that out for me and I said "yes they would ". The customer service was very poor as well, I asked three times where I could find a certain plant and finally a young fellow showed me where it was. Yesterday, my mother and I went shopping at the Houston Gardens location I-45 N @ Holzwarth Rd in Spring, TX Store #15. We love this location because they (always) have the best selections of beautiful plants and flowers. However, I had a concern that I wanted to bring to the managers attention. Finally, the acting manager on duty at that time came to the register where I was. I explained to her, that the phone connected to their location was not picking up because the voicemail was full. Yanette, the manager on duty explains to me that they had nothing to do with the voicemail being full and most of the time they are away from the office helping customers outside and can't answer the phone. I then asked her that if a customer wants to call with questions, what should they do? She then shrubs her shoulders and tells me they would have to come in person if they need help with anything. I explained to her that other Houston Garden locations have employees answer their phones right away. What made them any different? She had No Answer. I was highly disappointed in her lack of professionalism and then I told her I'm going to contact their corporate location to complain. She was not bothered or concerned. read more

Janet was extremely RUDE and LAZY!!! When I asked for help she rolled her eyes and got on her phone to text. I went up to her because the other employees were busy helping other customers. I asked her if she can go show me where the plants were and she told me she couldn't! I figured maybe she can't leave the register alone. A few minutes later she's away from the register, like far away on the other side of the store giggling and chatting with a man. I thought maybe since she's in a good mood she can show me where I can find another plant. I approached her and again she rolled her eyes and said she was out of that plant. I asked another employee that was stocking the plants and he helped me find all of the plants on my list! If it weren't for the man stocking the plants I would've not bought anything. read more

I agree with the other reviews. It offers great selection and zero customer care. Lowe's and Homedepot offers one year warranty on plants. However, you investment has zero protection even if you buy an expensive Magnolia tree which could cost $499 . read more

I purchased about $500 worth of various shrubs, trees and bushes. 10 of them where the same bushes. Within 3 days 2 of them were dying. Although I know they have a no return/exchange policy, they refused to do anything about it or even listen to me. I called customer service today and it was THE WORSE experience... The lady on the phone had the worse attitude, condescending and rude. I wasn't asking for my money back just to get an opportunity to exchange the dying plants. When I told her that their customer serviced was horrible, she just agreed and I hung up.. Although they have great prices, customer service is key to having return customers.. If you can find someone who speaks English, don't expect them to know anything about plants. They can't even answer the simplest of questions. Their prices are well above most other nursery's unless you wait for the 50% off sale which make their plants more competitive. When end of summer comes around, the 70% off makes plants a good deal, BUT only if you can find any that aren't on the verge of death! In our experience, about 30 to 40% of the plants die within a few weeks. Shop very carefully and you can find some decent plants. Great selection, but don't expect a whole lot of customer care. If you go in knowing what you want or just to browse and buy, you'll be good. I haven't met anyone here who is a "professional" horticulturist by any means like some places I have visited. Maybe I just haven't met them yet - who knows. Everything is perpetually 50% -70% off, so don't think it's a great bargain. It's clearly their marketing gimmick. Take a $5.00 plant, mark it up to $10.00 and sell it 50% off. Even at 60% off, I found a tree over at Lowes for half the price HCC was offering it. Can not beat their selection though. read more

On Saturday May 10th I visited the HGC Spring location with the intent to redo all of my flowerbeds. An sizable, yet undefined, amount of flowers. I was aware that there were coupons of varying amounts depending on your purchase. Knowing that I would likely spend a fair amount, and in line with what the coupon that stated in small print that stated you could only use one coupon per customer, I waited until the third of my trips to apply the $100 coupon on my $657 total purchase. I even checked with the Manager prior to my loading the last of my purchase. When I reached the register he had a different opinion. I could only use the $20 coupon for a purchase of $120 or more. My complaints and why I will never shop there again. 1) My job was undefined. I bought plants as I went along. 2) My vehicle will not hold $500 of plants. Why issue a coupon that is not possible to redeem by the typical homeowner. 3) When I asked them to credit my card an ring everything up as one purchase they said they would get in trouble. 4) When I called the main number to register my disapproval I was spoken to in a dismissive manner. It seems that at no point is it demonstrated that the customer is first. I can assure you that my annual purchase of flowers and such will not be from Houston Garden Centers if this is how I will be treated. Disappointed read more
