Mastercraft Home Improvement - All your home remodeling needs

Mastercraft Home Improvement

Front start to finish, Mike Gast and Juan Navarro worked with me to translate my vision into the bright open studio I have been dreaming of... As the project manager, Mike Gast was extremely patient and accommodating, and provided lots of feedback to solve various issues. This was a large project that involved removing the garage door, retrofitting 3 sets of doors, framing and finishing for a custom look, inside and out. They even installed special thresholds so we could be assured of being able to roll equipment in and out of the space easily. After each stage of the job, the crew cleaned up the area and removed all debris. The price quoted us initially was in line with competitors, better than several, who failed to follow up with us. There was no cost-creep, and we finished at the price quoted us. Progress and payment was tracked on their online job project site, which was an added benefit and inspired confidence. I can highly recommend Mastercraft and hope to use them in the near future for several other home improvement projects. (A special thanks to the team, Victor and Tony for their cleanliness and work ethic).

Dad the Builder - Custom Barn Door

Dad the Builder

We did not luck out. We hired Ricky, the owner, for a custom bathroom vanity and storage tower,…read moreexpecting quality craftsmanship from a local small business. Instead, we got rough, poorly finished cabinet doors and six months of being ignored. The most visible areas -- the front-facing doors -- were left with raw wood grain and saw marks. A basic sanding and wood filler (used elsewhere on the same project) would have prevented it. When we sent photos, Ricky agreed it wasn't up to his standards and promised to replace the doors after "a busy patch." That was half a year ago. Since then: no responses to calls, texts, or emails. We chose him over a Restoration Hardware or Rejuvenation vanity because we wanted to support a local craftsman who would stand behind their work. That trust was misplaced. Learn from our mistake -- be wary of Dad the Builder. Project budget: $5600 Pros: energetic, young, well intentioned Cons: poor attention to detail, follow through, communication

Ricky was the only one who would tackle the custom door project due to its size. We are so glad we hired Ricky. He responded quickly to our initial inquiry, he arrived on-time to the appointment and gave a fair price for the projects. Ricky worked with us during the design phase and provided us with a drawn rendering of the final project. Once we signed off on it, Ricky proceeded to make the doors in a reasonable time frame and would keep us informed as to the progress. Once the doors were made and ready for installation, Ricky arrived on-time for the appointment, he completed the installation as discussed and left everything clean afterwards. The quality of his work is fantastic! We are very pleased with the final results. We would not hesitate to hire him for future projects

The Huffy Handyman - After renovation

We bought a house recently and needed to renovate our bathroom to accommodate a wheelchair. We…read moreasked our neighbors, and they all recommended Michael Huffman to us. As the other reviews mention, Michael is extremely knowledgeable on a variety of subjects. He took his time and looked closely at our space, including plumbing and electrical. He talked in depth to my husband, who uses a wheelchair, to see what exactly his needs were for the space, and then he made it beautiful. We had a limited budget, and Michael's design and materials were very affordable and well within our budget. If an adjustment needed to be made, he was flexible and quick to find a solution. He also watched for discounts on materials and saved us hundreds of dollars that way. Often an ADA renovation can look antiseptic, but Michael found flooring and doors and other items that made our new bathroom modern and gorgeous. It has added value to our home. We also hired him to do some additional handyman work like installing kitchen appliances. He pointed out any problems and corrected plumbing and electrical issues along the way. He had lots of tips and tricks on how to keep everything in good working order. He also installed some Smart features in our home to make it easier for my husband who doesn't have access to light switches, garage door openers, etc. He truly is a Wiz! He works hard, leaves everything tidy and is honest as the day is long. I would recommend him for any project big or small. We feel very lucky to have found such a qualified handyman, but also a great friend and neighbor. Thank you Michael!

Beach City Stairs - Simple and timeless. This craftsman design fits seamlessly into the home.

Beach City Stairs

Highly Recommend Beach City Stairs…read more We recently completed a staircase renovation project in our Southern California home. Like many homeowners embarking on a renovation, we researched extensively and requested bids from three different companies. One was a full-service remodeling organization, another was a smaller general contractor, and the third was Beach City Stairs. We ultimately chose Beach City Stairs because of their deep expertise and specialization in staircase construction and renovation. From the beginning, it was clear that working with a company dedicated specifically to stairs would make a significant difference in the outcome. Kenny, who initially met with us to take measurements, review current code requirements, and scope the project, was outstanding. He was communicative, knowledgeable, professional, and friendly--instilling confidence from day one. When the project began, we were equally impressed with the onsite team. They were an absolute dream to work with--meticulous, skilled, professional, and courteous. Each team member took great care in delivering their portion of the project with precision and craftsmanship. The renovation was completed on schedule and within the quoted budget. We couldn't be happier with the final result and highly recommend working with the experts at Beach City Stairs!

I'm extremely disappointed with this company…read more First, they installed wood plugs diagonally using a completely different wood species, making them extremely obvious and poorly done. I had to catch this mistake myself. They did fix it, but it should have been done right the first time. They also installed a newel post at the bottom of my stairs that had multiple markings and didn't match the other newels. I had to pay out of pocket for a replacement, and they took back the original to reuse on another project without giving me any credit for it. Most concerning, they did not provide a temporary railing during construction, which is required by California Building Code to prevent falls. I have four kids and two dogs. When I asked for a barrier to keep everyone safe, they told me to "use boxes or lawn furniture" and "zip tie those together," despite their contract stating they would install a movable temporary railing as a deterrent. When it came time to install the metal balusters, they couldn't figure out the correct spacing for the downstairs portion of the railing. Because the upstairs pattern was already installed, it was too late to match, so I had to settle for different patterns upstairs and downstairs. The stain was supposed to match my stairs. Initially, I thought it did based on the upstairs railing and even complimented the work. The next day, I realized the bottom railing was completely orange and did not match the floor at all. I reached out, and they eventually came back out, but told me the stain "matched close enough" and that the problem wasn't the stain but the wood itself having different color variations, and there was nothing they could do about it. My stairs are a beautiful natural oak color, they stained the railing bottom railing yellow/orange. See pictures Finally, I paid for two days of stain labor, but they only came for one day. I should be credited for the extra day or have the stain issue fixed. Between the poor quality, safety violations, and lack of accountability, I cannot recommend this company.
