LIE, CHEAT, STEAL This is a review on Carl, the owner of PacGen Construction. I liked Carl but i felt deceived. It saddened me. Payment was due at the end of each phase of the project as quoted even if there was less work involved. Receipts were to be provided at the end of the job. Luis, tile and Jose, plumbing are great! I am a little old lady and saved my money because what I hoped for might be expensive. A straight walk in shower no dam / no step with partial glass on the shower side. THE LIE - Carl said the job would take 2 weeks, he set it up then left town and went on vacation for 2 weeks. Lied to his workers and me about the amount of time he would be gone. I have never done renovations and needed someone to explain the process, materials and timelines. Instead i had to count on YouTube, Google, Amazon with input where ever I could get it. Two weeks became 2 months. Family and friend had to come some other time for a summer visit. THE CHEAT - A small opening are made in the slab, the pipe to carry out the water was too high and a slope could not be made to drain the shower. Carl changed the design to put in a dam/step. I worried about tripping but he said there is no other way. I thought at least there is less material, much less labor and less cost. Carl has a unique accounting system. You pay no matter what the change even though it costs less for him. When done he said he would reimburse me. Danger, he is going to keep every penny. He needed the money and I had compassion for his situation. THE STEAL - At the end he hit me for $300 more! I asked for an accounting and all the receipts. He said he would NOT give them to me, unbelievable!!! I had a good idea what it would cost, after all, I had quotes from other contractors when I started this project. He stole more than $3800 from me. With me, Carl was inefficient, a poor planner, makes assumptions and most importantly dishonest. AND he claims to be a good Christian! BE CAREFUL. read more

Carl came out within a super quick timeframe to give us an estimate, he was very helpful and honest about what could and couldn't be done. We got a few other estimates and most of them were similar in price or a bit more expensive but we ended up going with Carl and his team. He showed up as promise and on time and was extremely nice. As we said our goodbyes he told me that he would have an estimate for me by the middle of the next week. Carl and his merry crew at PacGen are as advertised: FANTASTIC! We received about five different quotes for our job and PacGen stood out as a professional and reliable partner from the very start. We decided that we really wanted just one point of contact for the entire project, so that lead us to contractors. Carl was extremely responsive and helpful during the initial meeting and his price was competitive. (Plus he showed up with a mask on! Not all of the contractors did this.) But we weren't looking for the cheapest offer, we were looking for the best offer. First impressions matter to us and Carl's firm made a good one. Equipment, vehicles, web site, uniform, on-line reviews: it all checked out. Carl was our guy. We started exactly on the day that we requested. They took great care to protect our floors and keep the dust to a minimum, but be forewarned, shower renovations are big, dirty, dusty jobs. In spite of that, they left the bathroom and the floors spotless. Carl and his team take great pride in their craft. They listened to our ever-evolving ideas and turned them into a plan. They enacted the plan exactly as they said they would. I love it when you hire someone for a job and they do exactly what they say they are going to do, exactly when they say they are going to do it. Carl also did a great job communicating with us through out the entire process. Every e-mail, text and phone call was returned in a timely manner. Bravo! We couldn't be happier with the results. The shower is awesome. The tile work took tremendous skill and patience. The glass enclosure was expertly measured, cast, and installed within six days. The owner, Carl, met with us personally to help us design a bathroom expansion and bar upgrade. He did not rush the design process and helped us get it just right. He drew up a contract with a completion deadline in late December 2018. From the beginning Carl and his crew were professional, clean, and methodical. The site was blocked off with plastic sheeting so the kiddos couldn't get in. Carl did give them a cute photo op though during the demo. The job site was left pristine at the end of each day. I didn't end up going with Pacgen, but if my budget would have allowed it, I would have. Carl showed up on time for the estimate, was professional and took detailed measurements, unlike many other contractors that want to give an estimate by just looking at photos sent to them. He does take about a week to get you the estimate, but compared to other contractors estimates, you can see the time and detail he puts in to it. I wish all contractors were that detailed so you know exactly where your money is going. In addition to the details, Carl really tries to give you various budget options throughout the estimate, which was very helpful as well when you are on a budget and you may have to choose less expensive cabinets, etc. If you are looking for an experienced contractor who uses quality materials, reach out to him. read more

This review is long overdue. We originally reached out to PacGen back in February when we purchased a fixer upper in wine country. Carl was one of a few that we asked for a bid. As we novices were describing the scope of the project to him, he came up with many insights and suggestions based on his considerable experience. And, he provided the most thorough and complete bid imaginable. As with any home improvement project, surprises came up. We were expecting that. When they did, Carl worked with us to be sure things were done right without breaking the bank. As we also expected, we had several voluntary add-ons along the way. Many times, we had the conversation: "As long as we're doing 'x', we might as well do 'y'." In those moments, when we weren't quite sure which direction to go, Carl had great suggestions for what would look good. And we received itemized change orders to review and approve before any work was done. It took two months before we were able to live in the home. In all of that time, someone showed up to work on the place every day, with the exception of maybe 4 or 5 scattered days at the most. Jose and Luis did great work. I had a water leak that was a covered claim through my home owners insurance. I went out on my own to hire Pacgen Construction to do the repair work. Due to the cost of the job the insurance check had to go through my mortgage company which delayed things big time. First step was to have a restoration company come in to dry things out, which meant my entire kitchen was put in my family room. Pacgen's came in and kindly put my appliances back for me until we waited on my mortgage company to ok the job. Pacgens came in and got the job done in a very timely manor. They had to install my entire downstairs with new wood floors. A few times the guys would stay late just so they wouldn't have to leave the floor at a awkward point until the next day.
