Zucchini Bread

I first stopped in this store as a Dasher in the Fall. It smelled wonderful, the products looked amazing & service was friendly. My friend wanted to stop by on her way from work & I remembered how impressed I was back in the Fall. I don't know what happened between then and now but I won't be going back. We stopped in just after 5pm, Thursday April 2nd. I saw a few things I was interested in buying for the family, but I had the feeling someone was staring at us. I looked up and saw the younger girl with multi-colored hair glaring at us while the older girl with colored hair was stacking chairs on tables. Google said they closed at 6pm, so I'm assuming she was mad we were interrupting their pre-close. After seeing the flattest "brownies", flatter than a cookie, the soggy zucchini bread with no date on the wrapper, the glare from the young girl behind the register and not one single "Hi" from the 3 employees working, ( the 3rd one was eating a sandwich behind the counter), I decided not to buy a single thing & not to ever come back. My friend bought 4 items & the glaring girl only spoke when she said the total, not even a "Would you like a bag?", "Thank You", "Enjoy your bread" or "Have a good night." Too bad. My friend & I were looking forward to having a coffee & snack & catching up after work.

Nice local spot! Has a very homey feel, the bagels and baked goods are very tasty and well made. The staff was nice and had the food ready very quick. Will frequent this place more often for sure!

Known for their natural and fresh bread, House of Bread has anything you could need. Sweet breads, savory breads, and my favorite; lunch items! Their cold cut sandwhiches are no frills but so delicious. I've ordered in person and via doordash. Honorable mentions to the raspberry rolls and their white chocolate raspberry bread.

Got the cinnamon roll and croissant which were pretty good. Wide selection of bread and sandwich options

House Of Bread is located on the old Seward Highway close to Dimond . They have a nice variety of breads ,and other baked goods. There's a nice dining area and in the summer they have a very small outdoor dining area. They serve soup and sandwiches and cinnamon rolls ,and a nice variety of savory and sweet baked goods. The staff is pleasant .This is a great place to grab a fresh loaf of bread or a quick lunch or snack.

The Cranky Turkey Sandwich: without cream cheese though we asked for cheddar as substitute and didn't get that either!

They've run out of cream cheese on a Saturday morning, there are three young women making sandwiches, and 3 tables waiting for their orders! The three that are suppose to be making sandwiches are too busy talking too actually do anything.

Hf Cranky Trky on Honey Whole Wheat. I recommend Great Harvest Bread or Sara's Too instead if you're looking for a good sandwich.

$11.05 for half a sandwich that advertises that it includes cranberries, not craisins. A loaf of the same bread costs $10. Not sure why they charge $11 for half a sandwich.

Almond croissant and chocolate croissant

The bread was pretty underwhelming and expensive. Emily was the best thing about this place. She was so friendly, hospital, and accommodating! Second best thing: the samples. I got a loaf of sourdough and one chocolate and one almond croissant for $15. The croissants were dense and chewy. More like a dinner roll. The almond croissant wasn't like other almond croissants with marzipan-like filling; it had chopped up nuts and cinnamon sugar... seemed like a pecan roll more than an almond croissant. The sourdough was really disappointing :( sourdough in Alaska is amazing and this was just like a regular loaf of bread... mild sourdough flavor and soft like a dense loaf of white bread. The samples were really fun! I love to see samples at restaurants and bakeries to help inform future purchases. I sampled the lemon cake, cinnamon bread, and bread pudding. Unfortunately the best way to describe all of them is dry.

Italian Grinder and Alaskan Fusion Panini

My little brother told me about this place and me and my wife loved it. The paninis were great. We loved all the different pastries and deserts that they had made fresh. The shop also sells a lot of Alaskan based foods. A nice gem

I always want to love this place but I just don't. My husband feels that my lower 48 food expectations get in the way but it shouldn't be hard for a bakery/soup/sandwich place to make an incredibly tasty sandwich. For starters the sandwich choices are very limited. It's mainly cold sandwiches with bland toppings. It would be beneficial for them to have more sauce options (like savory sauces, maybe a chipotle sauce). Basically it's mayo and mustard from what I see and they don't add much to the sandwich. I'm sorry y'all I'm picky about sandwiches. The sourdough bread is just ok. I'd love to see more hot sandwich options like paninis with maybe an herb mayo or something to that effect. Service was decent. The price point is not bad with the amount of sandwich you get at $12 bucks for a whole sandwich. Goodness someone please season these sandwiches and add some sauce! Ok ok I'll get off my soap box now. Maybe just maybe they will incorporate some of these suggestions. Ambiance is cute but again it's cold in there and they have a fireplace that's not even lit. Also it's the holidays and I love that y'all decorated some but can y'all play a little music for Pete's sake?! Now I'm done.

Fresh ingredients on sandwich but way down my list for Panera-type food. Soup is basically just water. I won't be back.

Love getting Raspberry swirl bread. Their lunch sandwiches are great. Always a game to see if I can resist the cookies. Quick service.

I wish they would revert the menu back to the way it used to be. The default drink should not be a special. If I want to have an oolong milk tea with boba, it rings up as a special and they add in the notes that I just want the milk tea, and then they add the charge for boba on top of the price of an already specialty drink price. And the cashier always looks at me confused and has to ask for help to figure out how to put in a milk tea with boba at a boba shop... I like to tip but when I'm getting charged $9.50 for a plain milk tea with boba, having to pay over $10 total for the simplest classic boba order does feel bad. Also, the point system makes no sense, and the points expire. I don't live in Anchorage but I literally try to come here as often as I can. There's no reason for the points to expire considering how much you have to spend to get a credit. It's an easy fix and I would really like it if they changed those couple things. Jasmine milk tea pictured was delicious.

It turns out to be a full-service espresso joint with in-house baked goods. Mostly cupcakes and cookies. There are a few brunch or lunch type of menu items but it is fairly limited. The food that was in the cooler looked good, there were also a few hot dishes to be offered. I was visiting with the person behind the counter and I started to pick up real quick that this person had skin in the game and a passion for baking cakes, cupcakes, pies, and she added that she could make any dessert that a person could want. I am well aware that the most important ingredient in any kitchen is passion. It is apparent that they are buying in bulk! She told me that she will be making a lot of pies for Thanksgiving, pretty much any flavor that you could want. Custom cakes are the specialty. When a gawdy, airbrushed, cake with a doll on it from Carrs it's just a little bit too tacky for your occasion, this will be your place! I wound up walking out with three different flavors of cookies. I just wanted to make sure that they were good if I was going to write about the place. They were! My doctor says that I've got no place eating cookies. But hey, if I'm going to break bad, this is where I'm going to do it. The cookies reminded me of mom's kitchen when I was a little boy. I think I teared up a little bit when I got to the chocolate chip. I can say that they earned a very solid four stars. The fifth star is always reserved for consistency. Keep up the good work and you'll see number five soon. I look forward to furthering my research!

Almost too swift as I didn't have time to fully peruse the plentiful options and decide what i wanted to order to go. What was difficult was the portion size as I could have easily shared it with someone else - pumpkin/carrot/ginger soup - 5/5, truly scrumptious! - italian sausage white bean kale soup - 4/5, delicious and just a tad too salty - ham cheddar chive scone - 3/5, I was expecting to really like this but it was a bit too hard and had large chunks of ham in it which was generous but not what I was expecting - chocolate croissant - 4/5, solid offering but not the best I've ever had - pecan maple shortbread cookies - 4/5 I wish I had more days in Anchorage and more time (they're open 7am - 4pm and October on only open Wednesday through Sunday) and look forward to returning when I hopefully return to Anchorage!
