I had a great experience here while trying to recover from a knee injury. Sharon did a very thorough and professional assessment and prescribed a number of exercises to help me improve my strength where it was needed. She explained everything well so I understood why I needed to keep up with the exercises and how to do them properly. I've seen big improvement over the past couple of months and will definitely continue to use what I learned. The office is spacious and clean and everyone there is friendly and helpful. I have been a patient of Houghton Physical Therapy several times over the years and have been more than satisfied with the results every time. Most recently Adam and Todd worked with me to relieve shoulder pain that was greatly affecting my daily life. Going in I thought that I would very likely need surgery to relieve the pain which I had been experiencing for more than a year and was impacting my daily life. Through well planned out, patient and steady therapy laid out by Todd and administered by Adam, I slowly but steadily saw improvement to the point that I am no longer hampered by shoulder pain during normal activity. My husband was helped by these great folks when he was fighting cancer and the chemo side effects. They did a great job and he always came out feeling stronger and positive. When he finally passed, they showed their care and concern and I was touched as they really did treat us like family. In the final months of caretaking for him, I hurt my back and hip and wound up needing their services. I told my doctor in Medfield that I wanted to go to Houghton, as I had been to two other PT places in my area, and was always aware that Houghton had been so professional, so aware of his medical issues and so caring with my husband. I got a real pain in the neck.. No I really do have a real pain in my neck. The houghton staff is really taking care of it. Houghton has a good sized bldg with all the tools to get your recovery going. The staff is on top of their game, pinpointing problems snd their knowledge of the body's workings is incredible. This is the second time I've had occasion to need PT. This time it was for my tween. Both experiences here were amazing. Although diagnosed with one issue by a doctor, after a thorough assessment from Alicia it was determined to be an entirely different issue and a detailed and easy to follow program was developed. Alicia, Chris, Brittney and the rest of the staff related in terms that people of all ages can understand. The whole team works great together to ensure that no matter who you see your program is consistent. It looks like several people have had positive experiences with Houghton PT, but I have not. From day 1 I felt as if they were understaffed and/or overbooked. I would be given an exercise to do and they would walk away to do other things instead of watching me to make sure I was doing it correctly. I stuck with it because my doctor recommended them and I figured it was better than nothing. I am a believer in PT for injuries. After a little over 2 months, my insurance decided they were not going to cover anymore visits (or so I was told by Houghton) and they said I would have to pay out of pocket. I paid out of pocket for 3 visits and then moved on to a chiropractor since I was not improving. After explaining what I had been doing to my chiropractor, he informed me that not only were some of the exercises probably making me worse, but the ones I should be doing were being done incorrectly, which was also making me worse. No surprises there since no one watched to make sure I was doing them correctly. As for those 3 appointments I paid out of pocket for, well Houghton submitted them to my insurance anyway. And guess what? My insurance paid them! This was in early September and I am STILL trying to get an answer about being reimbursed. I am getting a complete runaround. This place is very frustrating to deal with. Not only would I not recommend them, I go out of my way to tell everyone about my experience and specifically tell them NOT to go here. read more
