I had arthritis in my hip joints, thanks to genetics, and needed my hip replaced. Surgery with Dr. Porter went as planned, so I thought... Shortly after surgery, I noticed something was off. I had had my other hip replaced 7 years ago, so I was familiar with the recovery process. Unfortunately, my hip was painfully popping out of the socket and back in. I kept going to Dr. Porter telling him something wasn't right. Dr. Porter said I needed to continue with physical therapy, which I did. It is still no better after 5 months of therapy, and my range of motion is very limited. Dr. Porter told me a revision would also limit my range of motion and be more invasive than the first surgery. He basically tried to talk me out of fixing my hip. I can't live like this. I can't even walk properly. Needless to say. I never went back. Do not let the pain rush you into surgery. I should have waited for a more experienced surgeon.

I had a mild case of Covid in February but had long hauler symptoms of not being able to get enough air into my lungs. Felt like I was suffocating. I had chest palpitations, shortness or breath and extreme muscle weakness. I started my PT with Emily. My RHR was 158 with O2 between 94-96%. After a few short weeks of multiple days a weeks I was able to breathe normally without issues. My O2 got back up to 99% and my RHR was below 70. My muscle weakness improved tremendously now that I can get oxygen to my muscles. I am able to enjoy bike riding and 2-3 mile hikes without effort. University Orthopedics places making as much money off you as possible far above patient interests…read more My experience here was terrible and I want to warn anyone else against trusting the team here. I received bills for things that team members explicitly told me were not going to cost me money. If anyone comes into your room to give you something, tell them to shove it. If they schedule you to with the OT team here, push it back a couple weeks ago so you don't end up going only to find out you aren't recovered enough to start. This group even has their sales people dress in scrubs so you'll assume they are care providers. University Orthopedics is not a place you to go to get your injuries healed, it's a place you go to to lose trust in doctors. I would recommend going anywhere else so you don't end up feeling as stupid as I do for trusting them.

She explained everything well so I understood why I needed to keep up with the exercises and how to do them properly. Monday morning after thanksgiving I called Elliot hoping to get an appointment. I'm not sure if they heard the desperation in my voice or if that's how they run their practice, but they were able to get me in immediately. And I mean immediately! Like I called at 9something and they got me in for 10am! I got to my appointment with Julie with weakness and numbness in my right leg. I felt better right away and have been getting stronger everyday and have no pain! I had an emergency with my dog and had to cancel my appointment for yesterday. Dr. Ackerman was nice, knowledgable, and efficient. A resident/fellow sees you first, and then reviews notes with the doctor who subsequently sees you briefly to discuss the treatment plan. One star off because they seem to always be running a little behind schedule, but overall a good experience and good medical care. Casting is quick and painless, and the technicians are friendly and make you feel comfortable. They validate parking - $2 cash only. If you're a Brown student/staff/faculty, take the university shuttle to RIH and just avoid parking altogether. The garage spaces are limited, and it can be a headache. In the waiting room, there's a picture signed by Stephen Gostkowski to keep you entertained.
