My wife and I made our first trip to Hotel Tango for 'Tango U' which is an offering to explain spirits, mixology and more. This was a birthday gift from my kids and, to be honest, I was apprehensive but now that I've done the class I'm a complete convert! It was fun, educational, and of course tasty! Hotel Tango is a local distillery, and this was our first visit. The building is unassuming, but once inside it was a beautiful space with plenty of seating, lots of drink options, and a cool 'vibe' even for those of us who don't frequent bars/distilleries/breweries. I could see myself hanging out there sipping on a bourbon and chatting up the bartenders or other patrons either inside on a comfy couch or out front on the patio. But that isn't why we were there. For my birthday, the kids got us tickets to attend 'Tango U' which is a somewhat frequent offering at HT. The class was made for 8 attendees, and included background information on the distillery, spirits in general, and in depth looks at two drinks. Our class did a traditional Old Fashioned Cocktail and a drink called 'Orange is the New Wack'. We learned about proper technique, why drinks are made the way they are, and more. Mark (our bartender and/or Mixologist) was fantastic. He told stories from the industry, was a great resource on spirits and drinks and such, and answered what seemed like hundreds of questions from all of us. He made the class enjoyable and educational. The Old Fashioned was our first, and upon completion we had time to enjoy our drink and chat with others in the class as well as Mark. It was a very 'spirit forward' drink (look at me with my fancy new terminology) so you could really taste the rye. Not my usual choice, but good nonetheless. I made it, so it had to be so. After the class enjoyed a break to sip and chat, we started on the second drink and learned additional techniques, more about liquor and made a 'sweeter' (my term) drink which was more my style. I admit, I could have had three more of them, and probably twice that if I was sitting on the beach somewhere sunny. When the class wrapped up, we were allowed to hang out and chat, ask any more questions, or head to the bar and order something else to try. It was a great experience, and I highly recommend it. I'm not a huge drinker, nor do I geek out over cocktails and craft beers, but it was fun, and I'd do it again for sure. 5 stars for the bar/distillery itself and 10 stars for the class! read more

The interior and exterior of this place don't match, and in my opinion, that's a good thing! From the outside, it looks tilted and stuffy, like a fancy restaurant with a two hour wait. Go inside, however, and it feels like a big party! There is a fantastic variety of cocktails, which utilize their house distilled spirits. On, Sunday August 31st I decided to go down to Fletcher Place area there was only a few businesses open during the Labor Day weekend. I decided to go to Hotel Tango since I saw cars on their parking lot. There are plenty of parking spaces front, back, and as well as street parking. It wasn't my first time there, however it was my first time going there that's not during Christmas season. Entering the building no stairs at all not even to go to the restrooms. Very accessible building, nice spacious building that offers plenty of seating everywhere. Hotel Tango building is in the historic Fletcher Place, and the building itself is historic too that used to be a part of a horse barn over 100yrs ago. I sat at bar where the Bartender at that time was Valerie. Valerie very sweet, people person, very helpful on the drinks, and there was another female Bartender at my time there which I had forgotten to get her name. Hotel Tango menu is themed as Summer Camp that's very nostalgic. I didn't eat food only had drinks there and the drinks I had were the Tent Time Martini, Passion Fruit Margarita, Shmallow shots(2). I met a couple there that was visiting Indianapolis from Chicago which they sat at the bar next to me. We, talked, I gave them some suggestions on things to do or eat in Indianapolis, we laughed, drank & enjoyed the last Sunday in August. Went here awhile back for a drag show and brunch and it didn't disappoint! The event hall space is large with a built in bar and plenty of seating! The show was engaging and everyone was having a great time! The actual bar building was quaint and warm feeling with creature comforts to make it feel as if you're in a cabin with friends and a large bar top haha! So cozy, so HYGGE. We have had many a Hotel Tango cocktail before while we were out and about, but had never visited the "Mothership". It was -9 degrees outside, so we loved being able to sit by the fire and warm-up while sipping cocktails. I also appreciate that you don't have to run up to the bar to order and that staff come to you whether you are sitting on a couch or at a table. The vibes here are immaculate. Such a unique spot that I would say is a must when visiting Indianapolis. The vibes and bar was great and even cooler because we could bring our doggy. We got the chips and queso, which was a wildcard starter, but it actually ended up being pretty good. We also got the TWISTED SISTER Pizza with house vodka sauce, pepperoni, chicken, banana pepper, red pepper & hot honey. It tasted phenomenal. I was happy with the quality. First off, it is a dog-friendly spot INSIDE. How great is that? They do have a house cat :) The staff who were working were amazing. So friendly and helpful. Hotel Tango is amazing. Best place I have been to in downtown for cocktails. They have all of the basic classic cocktails and they have some really good unique ones. Everything there is good, and they make a lot of their own spirits. I've never got a drink there that wasn't great The drinks are pricy, but it literally does not matter. They are totally worth it. Trivia on Tuesday nights is fun. They have food too, but it's mostly appetizers type stuff. It's nothing to write home about. It's a very chill atmosphere, too. Lots of big tables, small tables, and cozy couches. They play good music, as well. It's right along the Indy Go Red Line (between Fountain Square and Fletcher Place stops), it's directly on the cultural trail bike path, it's in a very walkable area, and it's got plenty of parking. Was very impressed with Hotel Tango! Very small parking lot which was my first impression. However, lots of FREE street parking all around the area. The inside was larger than I thought and such a cozy feel. I went during the Salute to Santa so I am not sure how different it looks during regular year (besides no Christmas decor). Nice soft seating right when you walk in and then around the corner there are tables and the bar is in both areas and pretty big. Our waitress was attentive and nice. Highly recommend Hotel Tango's taproom! The atmosphere is great, even on a normal Wednesday night when we went. Their Xmas decorations are off the charts, they have a beautiful fireplace lit with firewood, and people/dogs are smiling everywhere. We stopped by to pick up a fundraiser item that Hotel Tango generously provided for Illuminate, our Suicide Prevention walk. It also happened to be my birthday, so my husband joined me on my volunteer work adventures that day! I attended the 10 year celebration for Hotel Tango and had an amazing time. The food was good and the drinks were better. The release of their 10yr bourbon was an added bonus. I also participated in a barrel thieving experience, guided by the wonderful Kati Larson, I was able to taste a few of their offerings at barrel strength and educated on how we went from grains to gallons of goodness. 10/10 would recommend and will be back for another. This is long overdue. My former 4 star review took into account their skill for cocktails and ambiance but the spirits themselves were lackluster. This has changed over past 2 years as their reserve bourbon, one of top 100 spirits in US 2022 by wine enthusiast, has notched this attribute up like an NBA team acquiring a star free agent in the off-season.
