I bought a room at Hotel sutter on Groupon. When I went to check in, there was no record of my reservation. Luckily, there were rooms available and we got upgraded to a king suite, which was very nice. The reception staff was very friendly and the bar and dining areas looked welcoming and the menu looked delicious but we ate elsewhere so not able to comment on food or drink. Our credit card was charged $100 for incidentals, which we never used but somehow a $100 charge is pending on my credit card and I am now in the process of requesting the money not be charged to my card. Our room was large and tastefully decorated in colors of purple and gray. The bathroom was large and had a nice shower (no tub). Three minor issues with the room: the Keurig coffee maker pods were all for English tea and not one pod for coffee , the AC was very loud, and there was no refrigerator, which would have been useful since we had some items to cool. The town itself is a funky old gold mining town with a nostalgic theme. The ice machine for the hotel rooms was not working so we got our ice from the first floor kitchen. read more

This place is usually good but very inconsistent. I have had some of the best burgers ever here, but it's not always that great. The staff for the most part is friendly, there is one bartender who is a complete moron. me and my wife were in the bar having drinks and he was talking about how he was abducted by aliens or something like that. he also made a 7 and 7 wrong. I'm not sure how you can mess of a drink that literally has to ingredients. Other than him its a great place with good food, usually, and a friendly staff. read more

We were not happy with our experience. We ordered the cheese plate and the food was thrown on a plate, not very appetizing. Our crab Louie was served with hot shrimp and mushy crab. The waitress appeared to be ill informed regarding the menu. The restaurant wasn't crowded when we got there and our food did not require cooking. We waited about 30 minutes to receive our food. We would not recommend the restaurant. read more

Love the hotel, love the restaurant, love The Cellar. The staff are all friendly and enthusiastic. Have had several meals at The Sutter restaurant over the last couple of months and wish I'd written sooner. Great food courtesy of the new head chef, fun cocktails and such a gorgeous renovation. We noticed big changes even over a few weeks, so exciting. We were happy to spend the night along with attending their first wine dinner. So fun, great wine, great food, fun stories from the winemakers. I hope they do this again soon! read more

Stayed here on a Saturday night. Only place in town where you can stay for one night on a weekend; everyone else has a 2-night minimum on weekends. Excellent service, small but pretty and comfortable room; looked like the room had been newly remodeled. Had a large closet and a window with screen that actually opened. Only downsides are no fridge or coffee in the room. But hair dryer in the bathroom, also shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, hand soap and body lotion. Coffee place right across the street and they give you coupons worth $3. Quiet, even though the place has three bars and people were partying until the wee hours. Parking in back, off the street. Excellent bed; we slept very well. read more

We had a fantastic meal here. The calamari was so tender, some of the best I have ever had. They made their own citrus-y aoli and cocktail sauce. And what a generous portion! We also had the seafood pasta special, which was outstanding, as well as the quinoa salad. Had a wonderful server and pleasant ambiance. Can't wait to go back!!!! read more

Friendly vibe in a beautiful location. service was great.

Went for a triple birthday tonight. Almost all from out of town, however most grew up or lived here at some point. My steak was overdone. Not to fear, the wait staff replaced it and made everything to my expectations while keeping my wine glass full. The service(waitress and manager on duty) were impeccable. Thank you so much. I highly recommend this gem of in town for dinner- or lunch- one of the best burgers I've ever had! -Tina read more

With reservations for 6:15 for a party of four we were very disappointed to have to walk out without dinner after waiting more than an hour and a half. We reminded our waiter numerous times that we were going to the concert across the street at 8:00. All to no avail. We were told patrons sitting at the bar (walk-ins) were being served while patrons with reservations waited. We travel to Sutter for concerts regularly but will never go back to the Hotel Sutter. read more

Never quite get it right. I really like this place but the restaurant is such a hit or miss place. Either the foods ok but takes forever or like in this case the service and speed were good but the food failed again. My wife and I ordered two burgers , one MW and the other well done. The MW came out perfect the well done one came out rare. The waitress brought it back to the kitchen, instead of cooking a fresh burger they tried to cook it some more and returned to our table with the same garnish and bun. Not exceptable. Not to mention the cost $16.00 for a burger and fries. If it was done correctly that wouldn't have mattered but given what happened they need to get it together. Like I said always hit or miss here. read more

Love this town. The hotel is right in the thick of dining and shopping. The room was cozy and characterful. We are in the open air restaurant in the hotel. A little pricey but delicious and creative dishes. The bartender was awesome! We asked for moscato which he provided along with a sample of Muscat from a local winery. We loved it and he offered to get us that and not charge for the wine he already poured. Only negative was garbage truck in the alley outside our room making a long loud racket pretty early. Not the hotel fault but will be sure to ask for non alley room next time Hope to be back to this charming hotel in a super fun town. read more

The restaurant is disappointing. Stopped in for lunch on a Wednesday during a day trip to Sutter Creek. We'd eaten here before but it's been a couple of different names I over the last few years. We were the only ones in the dining room. There were a few table of folks in the bar, but it appeared they were just drinking. We ordered a couple of beers. The waitress came back around for our food order, promising the beers would be up shortly. Ordered the fish and chips and a burger. I ordered medium well. I have a compromised immune system and cannot eat undercooked protein. Beer finally comes and we wait and wait for the food. I mean...no one is here! Food arrives. The fish and chips are grocery store quality. I cut the burger in half and it's medium rare. I ate some of the salad and some of the more done parts of the burger. Waitress finally come back around and I try to show her the burger. She's not all that interested but offers to bring me another burger. I told her no, that it took long enough to get this one. She come back around when we just about done and asks if I want a box. Why would a take this thing home. Between the slow service and the food quality we won't be back. Lunch was $60! Geez, I wished I would have read the reviews. read more

Literally one of the worst experiences I ever had staying in a hotel. AC doesn't work it is 98 degrees outside. I'm currently in the hotel writing this review and pissed-off off. I would give it zero Stars if it was an option. TV turns on and off randomly they screwed up my order on food and give it to someone else three different times. I recommend you stay away from this place as far as you ca. I'm literally miserable sweating in bed if I didn't have anything to drink I would just drive home, I hate this place. read more

Thank you Hotel Sutter! From the event manager who was very patient, professional and attentive to our wishes, to the entire hotel staff who worked very hard to ensure the utmost perfection, to the spectacular food choices and presentations, Hotel Sutter comes highly recommended for special occasions. read more

Gave this place yet another try. I asked for a burger well done and got it medium rare with a bun that fell apart; an indication that it was old. Once again, we had to ask for bread and at least this time, we got some. Also, one of the desserts tasted stale...the chocolate cake. The two stars is for the waitress, Samantha, who was very good and on top of things. This place only thrives because of the lack of competition in Sutter Creek. Lastly, for the price, totally not worth it. Save your money! read more

So I'm writing this review as I'm stuck in the elevator. Fire department is here. Can't get the door open. Maybe let your people know not to talk where we can hear you about previous issues like the elevator getting stuck all the time, as recent as last Friday (this review written following Monday 3 days later) and that you're definitely going to do something bc this happens all the time. It's nice to hear talking right outside about how this is a reoccurring thing as I'm sitting inside a death box. read more

We went to Hotel Sutter for lunch and it was rather disapointing, not only did the menu showed dishes not available any longer, there was also no kids menu to be had, unheard of, right? The wait was also unbelievable, we were seriously thinking about leaving! We had 2 kids, age 4 & 7 with us and without some crayons and/or coloring to be offered the wait was really painful. Finally the food arrived, the appetizer minutes after the first dishes!! This used to be one of our favorite restaurants but unless some changes are made, especially in the kitchen, we will not be back. The staff was really really nice and it felt like they could feel with us. I hope the manager reads this and takes some action. Wanted to mention that we are 2 families, one living in the area for some time, the other just moved here. We are bummed out about this change of chef and menu read more

Nice atmosphere decent menu. Okay service. No extra charge for the flies! We've been here twice since the change in ownership and each time we had to battle flies. Seems like for the price of the food you wouldn't have to swat flies away from your food and face. I guess that's what you get when you outsource your pest control to some big national firm. Pretty gross. We won't be back. read more

Christmas buffet was marginal. First of all there was no posting online or menu with the prices. We had no idea of the cost. I guess I should have asked when I made the reservation...my bad. This was not a champagne brunch so be prepared to pay top dollar for drinks. The waitress had no idea of the wine menu, or what was available, nor the cost. There was no menu, and she did not know her wines. The buffet was limited with most foods heavily creamed. The salmon was excellent, however. Our bill came to $120 for two people which did not include the 18% gratuity they automatically placed on the bill. They calculated this on the tax which was wrong. $140 was way too much and we felt totally ripped off. Never again. It amazes me how Sutter Creek has pushed locals out with these prices....competing with Napa and the Bay Area. Next year I will stay home and cook. Please, Sutter Hotel, advertise your menu, your prices and make certain people are aware this is not a champagne brunch. As we have no family at Holidays this was suppose to be our highlight Christmas dinner. read more

After blocking out half of the hotel for my wedding at The Heirloom Inn on June 3rd, I expected the hotel to be the least of my worries in the wedding planning process. Boy was I wrong! The most stressful part was even trying to get a hold of someone at the hotel. Bryan is a useless piece of shit. Kimberly needs to be drug tested. This hotel is a joke. The rooms were trashed, found garbage from previous guests in our bed! It took them almost an hour and half just to provide us an estimate in the hotel lobby. My wedding venue is making sure no business will be sent their way for future brides trying to avoid a nightmare. read more

Recently came up to Sutter Creek and stayed at Sutter Hotel. Really enjoyed our stay. This place is like taking a step back in time! Very charming and rustic. The rooms with two queens were very spacious and the beds were very comfortable! We also really enjoyed lunch one day at the restaurant as well as drinks one evening at the bar! The location is great and the prices to stay here are very reasonable!! read more

My husband and I were both craving a great steak, great wine & cocktails and spectacular service. Having driven by multiple times, I was always impressed by the great appearance of this old renovated hotel. And as new residents to the area, we were really looking forward to satisfying our cravings. The ambiance was nice, the service was mediocre and I just wanna cry when I say.... the steak was like cardboard! OH NO! For $30 (!!!) a plate we expected the best of all the above. The servers are young and somewhat inexperienced, but they were all pleasant enough. And the good news is that my cocktail was actually fantastic! Unfortunately not so sure we will return. But I always say if the management takes the time to respond to my review, it will go a thousand miles in my book. So there is ALWAYS opportunity for redemption in the customer service industry. We will see how it goes. Happy meals to you travelers and restaurateurs! read more

We held a wedding rehearsal dinner for 50 people here on Oct. 20, 2017, and it was PERFECT. Starting this fall, I was dealing with new staff, who did a fantastic job. During the previous year (July 2016 - summer 2017) I had been dealing with constant staff changes and problems, so I understand previous poor reviews. I learned that the ownership had been trying a boutique hotel management company - it did not go well, and (luckily for us customers) that company was released. NOW Hotel Sutter has much better staff than they had for the previous year, and the current staff are doing a FANTASTIC job. The current staff spent a lot of time helping me plan the dinner/evening, with many tips which made a big difference. They let me come in the previous afternoon to decorate, which was a lifesaver. They helped bring things in from the car, and couldn't have been nicer. The evening of the dinner went perfectly. All of our guests enjoyed themselves, and we received many compliments on the delicious food. We had requested Apple Crisp with ice cream for desert, to go with our fall/rustic theme - the kitchen even sent out the vanilla ice cream as individual scoops on ice, so that guests could serve themselves at leisure. It was a lovely touch. The staff kept everything running completely smoothly. The venue is lovely, and looks so nice with the evening lighting, and the decorations. Rebecca, Kaylie, Emily and Ruthella and our bartender all did an outstanding job, and we were all very pleased, and very happy to have such a successful evening. Thank you Hotel Sutter! read more

I got married at the Heirloom Inn in Ione on April 29th of this year. I blocked out the entire hotel for my wedding guests, as it came highly recommended by the owner of the Heirloom Inn. Well I had nothing but problems the entire planning process. They blamed it on the "changing of management" well the new manager sucked just as bad as the last one had. They booked a guest in the bridal suite and had to turn them away because there were no other rooms available. Might I add that they charge a $500 deposit to block out hotel rooms and if you're staying there too it's supposed to come out of the deposit, the remainder is to be returned to you. Well they managed to charge my husband AGAIN when he went to check in wedding day and I had to call and complain to get the total amount back. The only thing that was good about this place is that they were clean, the bar was a blast at the end of the wedding night, and my guests got a ride home by their shuttle (the main selling point of the hotel room block). read more

Have been visiting Sutter Creek for years and haven't been so disappointed in the Hotel Sutter Restaurant until now. Not only were they out of the nightly special, they were then out of the New York Steak. Since there are only a few notable entrees to choose from, besides hamburgers, we chose a couple others reluctantly. While waiting, we never received any bread and finally had to ask for it. The entree sides came out wrong, the chicken was very dry, and the rice had a burnt smell as the plates approached the table. One would think a dessert may have been offered 'on the house' but after choosing not to order one we instead received the bill at full price! No apology, no discount. We won't be back unless the menu, chef or management changes. It was far better before the remodel. read more

My husband and I got married in Sutter Creek this past weekend. We reserved the entire hotel for our guests and most of the food and activities were centered around the hotel. From planning to execution to check out, the staff at Hotel Sutter delivered an absolutely flawless experience. During the planning stages, Elaine and Kirstin went above and beyond; they were super responsive and gave us lots of suggestions to help curate a perfect wedding weekend. They were receptive to our non-traditional agenda (from a wedding yoga session in the banquet room on Saturday morning to a late-night pork slider bar set up for guests returning from the wedding Saturday night). They were extremely cool about our last-minute requests. Most important of all: they were fun! They actually added their positive energy to the weekend. The entire staff was gracious and seemed genuinely happy to see us. OMG the food! Chef Darius and his crew are the best-kept secret in Northern California. They provided exceptional catered appetizers to our ceremony - beautiful bites with a modern twist. Each day the breakfast was hearty and healthy and fresh. We had dinner in the restaurant Sunday night and it was the perfect, nourishing end to the weekend. I can't close without giving props out to their bartender Marissa. I had pre-ordered a batch of her white sangria for a Friday night BBQ. The sangria was gone in an hour. I called the hotel and they agreed to make 3 more batches for us for our wedding on Saturday. Marissa - you rock. The rooms were stylish and super comfy - I want to buy one of their beds for our home. Hotel Sutter will forever hold a special place in our hearts. A huge thanks to the entire staff for making our wedding absolutely perfect. read more

My wife and I visited Sutter Creek for the first time this past Saturday and were advised there were basically two quality restaurants in town. After one look at the hotel Sutter's menu, my wife decided we would eat there and not even consider the other restaurant. The food was unbelievable. I ordered the salmon while she had the Cornish hen, which I ate a portion of because she was unable to complete it. My wife just returned from a business trip in New York and ate at an expensive swanky restaurant while there and claims the food at the Hotel Sutter rivaled that...at half the cost. The entire menu is moderately priced, while a solid case could be made that they are way under charging for quality of meal they provide. Admittedly I'm not a food connoisseur and couldn't rattle off the gourmet ingredients used, but it doesn't take an expert to know when you've eaten a quality meal. Shelby was our waitress and incredibly professional and friendly, while the chef, Darius, stopped by our table to chat with us. Really appreciated the low key and down to earth friendliness exhibited by all of the staff. My wife took pictures of the meals and sent them to our daughters at home. We have promised to take them when we return to Sutter Creek in the spring. Do yourself a favor and ignore some of the negative reviews and try eating at this restaurant just once. I guarantee that you won't regret it. Michael. read more

Thank you all so much for helping make my Son's Wedding & Wedding Party feel so welcome. You guys are stellar.

We ate their 30 December 2016 after a day of wine tasting. There were 4 in our party two couples and most of the food came out cold (refrigerator cold) or so under cooked we could not eat it. I hate writing bad reviews but this place was horrible! It was the open house for all restaurants for Christmas season, we waited 45 minutes just to be seated as expected then when it was clearly over an hour we checked in and they forgot to put us in the system. So we waited for 10 more minutes finally got seated waited an hour and 30 minutes for our food and our waiter came out to tell us our order was canceled by accident and it would be 20 more minutes. We waited another 30 then got up and left. The managers excuse was they were so busy". If you can't handle the tables you set up for customers , you shouldn't be in business. We were not given one sorry or any future discounts. Never going back. read more
