We looked for a hotel with reasonable rates that was pet friendly. We found Hotel Dega. This hotel is transitioning from being an Airbnb to a hotel. The rates for 2 days depending on what day you make the reservations and the month- week of your stay can be from $450-$650. The other hotels in the area can be $1,200.-$1,600 for the same 2 days. Luis, the manager at the front office, provided us a warm welcoming and he gave us a tour of the property. We liked Luis for his good customer service and his honesty. Yes, there a few things that weren't perfect, but as long as it was functional and still in working order was ok with us. You will see photos from other reviews , and they have made improvements and/ or corrections based on those complaints. For example, our dinner table had some bubbles on the top in the paint. It was still functional and we ate dinner using the table without any problem. Their TV system is set up for streaming. The bed was comfortable and the master bedroom was nice with a big screen tv and dressers for him and her. The lighting system is limited, but there's room for improvement. Our room came with a refrigerator, stove, microwave and keurig coffee maker all functional. I spoke with Luis and I gave him some recommendations how they can improve the property. Luis took my recommendations by writing them down. This location has great views of the bay. And it's close to everything. Plenty of property to walk your pet and they have a pool table and a swimming pool for some fun. this hotel has a lot of potential and as long as they continue to improve their property, this will be a great place to stay. Overall I would say my gf and I had a wonderful and pleasant experience at Hotel Dega. As a 3-star boutique hotel actively working to rebrand/ update itself it suited our needs but could still use some work/ minor tweaks and adjustments. We recently spent 6 days there celebrating our 2 year anniversary! I booked one of the bigger luxury suites with them that had a king size bed, wall fireplace (electric not gas), free standing bathtub and an oceanside view. In no particular order here are my suggestions/ critiques: - As one of the only pet friendly hotels in the area (we brought our dog with us) you should have bowls for food/ water and a bed already in your pet friendly rooms. I had to ask the front desk for a bowl. - Toilet paper and tissues should be abundant with multiples of each already in each room. 2 small packs of tissue and three rolls of toilet paper isn't enough for two people. I had to ask the front desk multiple times for more toilet paper and tissues (mildly embarrassing for me as a guest but also a hassle and since I was on vacation I feel like I shouldn't have had to). - The free standing tub is too small (could only fit one of us) and awkwardly shaped (super deep but not long enough to spread out). The bathroom in this suite was easily big enough for either a two person free standing tub or even a jet tub. Also because it's free standing there was nothing underneath it to catch excess water/ overspill resulting in water all over the bathroom floor. A pan underneath the tub or something similar would have helped. Great idea in theory and a nice luxury amenity/ aesthetic but practically it doesn't really work. The wand feature it had was a nice addition as well as the wooden tray for soaps, a glass of wine, etc but gets in the way of the spout so we ended up not using it. - The bathroom was pretty big with space for a closet as well (which we didn't end up using) and I think that space could have been utilized better by having an additional rack or table for storage, not only there but in the bathroom itself (more often than not I had to move things to the counter where the sink was because that was the only usable space off the floor). - The vanity/ countertops should have had two sinks installed instead of only one. - The towels could have been better quality. - There were shallow scratch marks on the floor and walls. - The mini patio off the hotel room was a nice addition as well but the small table and two chairs on it were in rough shape (slightly rusted, peeling paint, and no cushions on the seats). - No complimentary breakfast but there is a small Keurig coffee machine in the room, a microwave and a mini fridge. If you're not going to have a complimentary breakfast at least consider partnering with some of the local cafes and restaurants that do serve breakfast (offer a slight discount and send them customers). - The on-site amenities are bare and lackluster (a common room on a second floor with places to sit and chat, play pool/ board games, watch TV, bird watch or just watch the bay/ sunset/ sunrise), an outdoor and gated jacuzzi/ space area and a water/ ice machine. All of these require leaving your room (the hotel itself is made up of multiple buildings/ outdoor spaces, it's not one giant building). These are all in my opinion simply suggestions/ ideas to consider to bring that sense of luxury to your hotel and to your guests. However, overall it was a wonderful experience that just missed the mark in terms of what I consider a "luxurious experience." read more

Pros: Rooms renovated and clean. Top floor rooms have vaulted ceilings and private balcony, which makes the space feel bigger. Location is near anything you want to do in Bodega. All nice. All safe. All comfortable. Lounge area is nice with a billiard tables. Facilitaties/outdoor spaces have not been renovated like the interior. Trash areas have stained floors and are the first thing you will see when entering your building. Fresh tan bark slides down slope and exposes the plastic. It could just look better. Suggestions: If you want a get-away experience bring the following items (because you may expect them, but they aren't there) Bath Robe, Slippers, nice shampoo and conditioner, extra pillows (there we none available), extra blanket to sit outside on brisk days/evenings. If you want a real coffee mug, bring one. Have a dog dog? Bring doggy-bags. Want a glass for your wine? Bring it- and bring the wine. Want a beach towel? Bring it. Bottom line: Reasonable rates, create the experience you want and prepare to bring what will make it amazing. Oh- and make the trip to Spud Point! read more

Girlfriend and I stayed here two nights for a friends wedding. We got the "Premier Bayview King | Newly Renovated" room. The price was high but I booked late so I was expecting that, but honestly given the pictures and marketing as a boutique hotel it looked pretty nice. Unfortunately, I didn't read the reviews before booking. So what do you get? For $756 (2 nights of the discounted base rate + $50 amenity fee + taxes + credit card processing fees,) you get: A dilapidated room with stained sheets, towels, pillowcases and curtains, black curly hair on your sheets, pillows and towels (they even changed them and they still had hair on the new set!!,) dirty windows, bubbling wall paint, dusty indoor furniture, rusty outdoor furniture, "limited front desk hours", no daily housekeeping, funky digital check in with coded number pad locked doors, and an overall feeling of disappointment. Was anything good? Not really, some things were fine. I requested an extra hour to checkout and they waived the late checkout fee ($50?), presumably because we complained about hair on our bedding, so that was nice I guess? The off site management I texted with were responsive, and the staff member who we interacted with on site (one guy who helped us when their digital check in service didn't work and changed our bedding when we complained about the hair) was friendly. Though I never got his name. Luckily he was there to re-send us our door code, if we had arrived later outside the check in assistance window I'm not sure what we would have done. And the view is nice of the bay - but the windows were in desperate need of some Windexing, so it felt more like an impressionist painting than a view. There's so many things about this place that just felt neglected. You can really feel that this place isn't thoroughly cleaned often, and that they run a skeleton crew staff. It feels more like a typical AirBnB experience than a hotel. I could never recommend this place to a family member or friend. read more

Stayed here for 3 nights and were lucky to take advantage of their Black Friday sale advertised on their website last month. The hotel appears to be recently renovated and modern. Check in is online/via text message; entry to room is via a code/keypad on door. Checkout is at 1000am and you just leave the "checked out" sign on your door. Lisa was helpful and communicative; giving us a phone number to reach her for any issues we had. We reserved a one king room with bathtub. It also had a patio, and slightly obstructed view of the bay. Our room was in building E, at the end of the complex. We could see highway 1 at our door, but weren't bothered by the sounds of cars passing by. The room was complete with a huge TV, Keurig (pods, creamer and sugar too!), microwave, mini fridge & freezer. The bed was comfy! Had a lovely and restful stay. read more

I will start with the positives. Luis at the front desk gave us a warm welcome. The bed was comfortable, that is unfortunately where the positive ends. I would recommend you do not book this hotel. First off I paid for a "Bayview" one bedroom, My view was the parking lot. We had only one window with a screen (although it had a hole at the bottom of it) so to truly enjoy the ocean breeze we had to deal with the flies. The floors were sticky and dirty. The window panes held dead flies and an accumulation of dirt and debris. One of the windows you couldn't see clearly out of because it looked like it had something that was scraped off of it, just dirty. The veneer on our dining room table was lifted with a huge scratch on one side and bubbles all over the top (see pictures) there were stains on the ceiling from someone who had cooked before us, I assume. The outside of the building is not taken care of, the wood siding is peeling off as well as the paint and there are cobwebs everywhere. The lighting, that's a whole other story. There's one small desk light in the bedroom which is used for the entire room. Similar to that there is one light in the entire kitchen-dining area, a can light, Yes a single can light that actually is over just the microwave, another single can light is used in the corner of the living room in order to light up the entire living room, just not good enough! The security of the place isn't great either. The latches on the windows are partly broken and the sliding glass door latch didn't even secure properly. When we left to eat dinner we had to take all our valuables with us. Also they need to take a look at the furniture I mean the leather is peeling off the chairs in the living room area, I would say it's time to replace some stuff! If you're looking for a quiet stay you better hope you're on the top floor because you can hear every step and conversation if someone is above you. This place is trying to be something it's not they're just not there yet. I would strongly suggest that management take a look at the bones of the place before they try to "shine a turd" I give Luis kudos for trying to be so proud of the property as he gave us a walking tour before we checked in, I would have been simply embarrassed if I was him. Disappointing since we were spending our anniversary here.... Just goes to show when you cut corners to try to spend a little less you get a lot less. I will go back to The Lodge or the Tides next time to make sure that a special occasion is not ruined by the atmosphere. And just as a note I did send two emails to the property and got no response! read more

Different way of checking in for a hotel. It's all via text and mobile. You receive constant IMs from the host -- many helpful, but some not so much. (e.g., their online system for providing a credit card for incidentals never worked after three texts about it.) The host is very responsive to IMs. Check-in was very pleasant and efficient. It's all keyless entry. The rooms appeared to be recently renovated, probably in line with the name change (from Bodega Coast Inn and Suites.) The shower stalls are odd, as there is only a half glass door on the furthest portion, so water pools on the handle side on the floor! It takes one bath towel to soak it all up! But, at least you know the floors are clean. No bar/hand soap, so bring your own or use the body wash supplied. Also, since we're on the coast, there is no A/C. However, there should be a screen door on the slider to get fresh air in and to keep critters out, no? Odd. Parking is adequate for the size of the property. read more

We recently stayed at the Hotel Dega. Check in is at 4pm and check out in 10am. But you can check in (2 ish) or out (12 pm) for a fee of $50 each respectively. We stayed in a King room with tub which was relatively inexpensive compared to other similar hotels in the area. The room was very nice and very clean. The bathroom was large and the tub beautiful and very comfortable to soak in. The room had a fridge/freezer combo, Keurig coffee maker, writing desk, and a patio with two chairs. The patio in this room and most rooms on the first floor were disappointingly right on the path. Anybody walking by would have no choice but to look at us while sitting on the patio which made it much less appealing to sit outside. I would recommend to the ownership to put up privacy panels on the sides of the patios. I think it would make a big difference. The patio had a sliding glass door but the screen didn't have a lock so we didn't feel comfortable enough to be able to leave the patio door open at all (shame since the hotel is on the bay) The place also has a rec room with a pool table and big screen tv, and an area with an outdoor jacuzzi. I would not recommend staying at Hotel Dega. My girlfriend and I stayed here for our anniversary from April 10th to April 12th and had a terrible experience. We paid almost $600 for two nights, but the room was dirty and unsafe. When we arrived, there were poop stains in the toilet, crumbs all over the floor, and no shampoo. We asked for shampoo multiple times, but no one ever brought it. When we went to the lobby to get some ourselves, the front desk worker had to pour soap into a coffee cup because they were out. The worst part was our last night when my girlfriend stepped off the bed and cut her foot on broken glass that was left in the rug. We found even more pieces of glass after looking closer, which proves they never vacuumed. We told the staff and asked for a refund, and they told us they would need to speak to their management team first, which was fine with us. However, the following morning on check-out day, we sent a text asking for an update on the situation. They completely ignored the question and just sent a scripted goodbye text. I have emailed them twice and reached out to both Hotel Dega and the Somers Collection through Instagram DMs and comments over the last five days, but I have received no response. To make matters worse, I called customer service to speak to someone. They put me on hold and then hung up on me. When I tried to call back, they continuously declined my calls and eventually blocked my number. I actually had to call from a completely different phone just to get through to someone again. This hotel has extremely poor cleaning standards and clearly flees from conflict to avoid taking accountability for their mistakes. I wouldn't recommend staying there at all. read more

The hotel does not have a person at the front desk. They give you the impression it is a full service hotel. When you arrive you have to call them to send you a link for a registration form which can take 20 or 30 minutes to receive which you cannot open until you connect to the hotel WiFi because there is no cell phone coverage - only to then have to wait again for them to provide a room number and door code. Overall it took me about 30-40 minutes to get into my room. This means basically no security if something goes wrong. There is also no information posted about the hotel - evacuation instructions, map showing ice machines etc. also information about how to operate the heater etc. no information on local restaurants etc. The "hotel" has decided to cut costs by not having a person to greet you. I prefer to have jobs for people and better service. Totally greedy - no desire to return. the room was clean and spacious. The coffee was terrible. There was no way to buy snacks or drinks. read more

Booking was easy, but check-in was a mess. The process is fully automated, and nothing on the reservation page warns you about this. We drove all day with no cell service, arrived cold and tired, and still had to connect to the hotel wifi just to register before we could get into our room. If we'd known sooner, we could've registered from home before leaving. The in-room guide book wasn't much help -- none of the recommended restaurants were open late. Worse, our room had no heat, and when we called the 24-hour line, we were told we'd have to wait until the next day for blankets. Unacceptable. Thankfully, another guest showed us how to use the room's heater ourselves, since the hotel didn't. On top of that, I could never get my laptop on the wifi and had to use my own hotspot for the whole stay. This hotel is extremely cute. & the location couldn't be more perfect. Rooms are spacious & the king tub was an amazing way to start every day! The lounge upstairs would be perfect for a big group of friends or family to all hang out in. We loved almost everything about this hotel. Except the bed was very firm & the pillows too thick for my neck. Also they could really use some soundproofing as we could hear everything from the room above us. We will go again but will stay upstairs next time & bring our own pillows. It really is the cutest hotel in the area. There was also confusion with the check out time. When I booked online it said 11am which is standard. But the hotel said 10am when we got there. I wouldn't have booked if it was 10am. So apparently this hotel was renovated for millions of dollars. They must've run up quite a bill because they can't see fit to have staff on the property after a certain time every day so these people are constantly texting you instead of making physical contact with you. They also didn't finish the renovation by adding actual ventilation to the rooms. None of the rooms have ventilation whatsoever, except for a slider that you have to open without a screen, which will let bugs in. They have no fan. They have no thermostat so if you want air during the night, you have to leave the slider open and compromise your security. When I complained about this to management they acted like it was a novel issue and said they would tell their management. Well, if you look at the reviews for this hotel, they know and clearly don't care about it or they would've fixed it. There was a loud beeping outside my slider that kept me up literally all night long that occurred every 10 seconds. I have a recording of it. When I tell management over the text about this, these bozos called the fire department who banged on my door at midnight. Had there been somebody on the property they could've come and listened to what it was and would've been more focused in their efforts to address it. Well the fire department came and they didn't do anything about it all night. I got no sleep. Because I had to leave my slider open all night to get air to breathe, I was subjected to an extra loud sound. I told them in the morning I was checking out for my second night, because I couldn't handle the noise all night in compromise sleep. They refused to refund me for the night that I didn't stay and I've had to dispute the entire stay on my credit card. Customer service clearly isn't important to this hotel or they'd have someone on the property to address guest concerns. These issues are not new, read the previous reviews. read more

Recently stayed one night here and echo the same points as the previous recent reviews: quiet property right off the highway. The location is superb and offers decent views of the harbor. Comfy beds, updated amenities, a clean and warm room were appreciated. Only issues knocking down 1 star is: very thin-walled rooms. Definitely opt to get an upstairs room upon request. This will save you from hearing the people above you pace around their room. Double check the check-out time on your hotel invoice: my invoice says check-out time is 11AM but Hotel Dega inundates you with txt messages with early arrival options and late arrival options that insinuate that the check-out time is 10AM. This is rather odd as there is no official check-out process. Per the sign on the hotel lobby door, you just lock your room and leave. This seems to be an odd holdover from Hotel Zindel turning into Hotel Dega. And finally, how do I know this hotel used to be called Zindel? Because you will receive 25+ text messages over the course of your stay - beginning 48 hours prior to arrival and up to the time you leave - informing you of everything from welcoming you to the property, to early checkin/ late checkout options (addition fees), uploading your drivers license to their website for a "quick checkin" (note: this is impossible if you're on the highway without a solid internet connection), and other notes about your stay. Some of these automated messages still reference the old hotel name, signed off as - Hotel Zindel. There were so many messages from the hotel over the course of our weekend trip every phone notification became a game: human or Dega? Though the price we got for the room was not bad at all, the state of the property and the awkward policies (and the freaking txt messages !!) actually became a deterrent in returning in the near future. read more

We arrived at 8:00 PM, exhausted and ready to put our kids to bed. After receiving our room code, we entered the room only to discover that it was already occupied by another guest. Not only was this embarrassing and invasive for the guests staying there, but it was also concerning from a safety and privacy standpoint. We then had to wait while the issue was resolved over text message before being assigned a different room. While the second room was vacant, it was missing basic necessities like soap and towels. To make matters worse, after being given access to someone else's room, we spent the rest of the night worried that the same mistake could happen again and that another guest might unexpectedly enter our room. When we raised these concerns, the response was simply that they would "let the team know." There was no meaningful resolution, apology, or effort to make things right. If you're comfortable with the possibility of your room code being given to another guest, missing basic amenities, and poor customer service when serious issues arise, then this may be the place for you. Otherwise, I would recommend looking elsewhere. read more

Our anniversary stay at Hotel Dega has been absolutely beautiful from beginning to end. Everything has been perfect -- we truly have not had a single complaint. The room was clean, comfortable, and thoughtfully prepared. Every space felt well cared for, and the atmosphere made it so easy to relax and enjoy our time together. We are especially grateful to Lisa, the manager, who went above and beyond to surprise us for our anniversary. We walked into balloons, rose petals, and the most thoughtful details that made us feel truly celebrated. It wasn't just the decorations -- it was the care and intention behind them that meant so much to us. Hospitality like this is rare. Let's start with the unacceptable: 1. the heater didn't work properly and went out completely-- twice; 2. there is no way to contact the front desk-- it has no phone. Therefore, stay with me here, you make your way outdoors to the front desk on this rather sprawling property in order to get any help. Made worse by pouring rain. Because we now knew where the unlocked electrical panel was located, we could take care of the second outage ourselves (also in rain but way closer than front desk). The room was pleasant enough and clean except for a disgustingly dirty shower curtain, which had to be changed out by the super helpful front desk person, because there is no housekeeping on site for most of the day. Sketchy electrical, no phone, no housekeeping--- those are management issues. Management appears to be at some remote location. read more

Picked this hotel because of how modern it looked on the website and reviews. It sure looks refined and modern in person! I was sent an email that I'd be getting a door code as soon as check in started. I didn't receive an email so we just went up to the front desk and were greeted by nice employees. Once we got our code and information about the hotel amenities, we parked right outside our room. The room is simple but is and looks newly renovated. We had an amazing view of the beach outside our window. We did have to close some of our curtains because other rooms had windows facing our windows. There isn't AC, or at least I didn't see, but honestly opening up the window and letting the ocean breeze come in was so nice. There was plenty of things to watch on TV, there's also Netflix and YouTube available. Would recommend this place to anyone visiting Bodega Bay for its competitive price and if you're more into modern hotels. read more

Amazing... Hotel Dega is the only choice for a Bodega stay ! First off the reception staff specifically Lisa and Janell were so courteous and friendly!! Our room was super clean and recently updated - great set up - spacious and cozy with an electric fireplace and stylish minimalist appointments. Our view was to die for - all the rooms face the bay and allow for a spectacular sights ... birds, sunset the whole nine, we utilized the game room - played some pool and next time will for sure try out the hot tub which looked very clean. The hotel itself is right in the beginning of getting into bodega bay. We were greeted upon arriving and the receptionist said did you get the download from us to your phone? That's how we checked in so we had to do that online real quick. It was fast and easy but not sure if that's the only way to do it because we did check in at night. Other than that. Everything was smooth for the check-in process. Our room was right off to the side 126B the room was clean. It smelled good and our view was amazing . Fireplace a plus , water was hot for the shower and nice toiletries . It had a fridge and a microwave, it had a Kureg for coffee. All rooms also have a patio They don't serve breakfast . The jacuzzi is in the middle so close to all rooms they have a viewing deck and a 360 view above lobby. No fire pit . Overall stay was great, they could improve on the coffee and tea we didn't get any stirrers to stir our coffee not that big of a deal. You can also have a late check out for $50 price check out time is 10:00 am a little early For us other than that nice place to be in next to the water and close to all restaurants and shops. read more

Enjoyed our stay. Couple of quirky things about this hotel and the restaurant down the street: 1.) Something (or someone) woke us up at 3:00 am pilfering through the trash can by our door. 2.) Fan in bathroom wasn't functioning properly. Didn't seem to be wired properly. 3.) We had locked ourselves out of our room at 10:30 pm and couldn't recall our code! No one was available at the front desk and no one available via text or phone. We finally remembered it. 4.) When is checkout? The website had one time, the front desk had another and the SMS text had a different time! We left at 10:00 am just to be on the safe side. 5.) The interior was nice and our two dogs loved it. We had a great view of the bay. Our king sized bed was comfy and the electric fireplace was perfect. 6.) Close to Doran Beach! 7.) We were confused and disappointed by the restaurant down the road, "Captain Davey's" being closed the entire time we stayed, with vague signage as to exactly when they were open for business. Looks like that restaurant is more of a "hobby!" 8.) We will definitely return. Hopefully, the hot tub will be working. read more

Nice rooms no air conditioner or fans and must leave the slider open for air. On 2nd floor no problem. Seems like confusing in consistent info texted but going under renovation too. Wish spa was warmer and jets harder flow of water. Otherwise great place. read more

Hella nice room, clean, modern and great view. Lisa went above and beyond with flowers, balloons & a birthday card for my wife! She loved everything and already wants to go back. Best trip to bodega bay. The stay was awesome read more

Rooms oversold! Despite having a confirmation and texts saying your room is ready, this hotel will leave you without a place to stay. Find somewhere else that won't leave you high and dry. read more

so we never received a text to get into the hotel room so we did have to walk into the lobby to check in. kept receiving AI messages regarding our stay and someone would messages us. room was clean but then night time came. the hotel was not packed at all. we went to bed around 10 and was awake listening to above neighbors stomping the floor and banging until 330. this was heard through a sound machine turned all the way up as well.I reported the next morning to the hotel staff in the lobby that it sounded like construction going on. they read off names of who was staying in the rooms above us to me and one of them was going to that room. the said their was not any construction. she advised me she would handle this. the next night we heard the family arrive in their room around 10pm because the stomping and running the room started back up. they must of had a kid doing laps. anyways please ask for a top floor room at this hotel. read more
