Went with my friend on a private Salmon Creek ride. It was quite lovely. Beautiful scenery and the weather was perfect. Jay was an engaging and attentive guide. He regularly checked in to see that we were comfortable with the pace (my friend is a beginner rider). The horses seem well cared for and were relaxed on the trail. Sophie, who accompanied us, was also knowledgeable and interactive. WHAT A TREAT IT'S BEEN. it's been 6 months of regular lessons with Scott as our teacher and my daughter is THRIVING. Not only learning the basics of riding ( western ) but also the responsibilities included in taking care of a horse, naming parts of the horse, Equipment needed to care for the horse. Great trail ride with fun horses at a family run ranch! Got to cantor trot around some beautiful trails.

To say I had an experience here would be selling it short. I lived in Santa Rosa for about 6 years and moved around 2021. Every day I had off, I would venture to the Sonoma Coast. Along my route, I have seen this Ranch, always told myself I would go and not getting around to it. Knew exactly what it was. The horses and land always looked great. The horses are well fed and have a wonderful sheen to them in the right sunlight. The land, always picturesque in any weather. This still holds up today. My ride was the day before this entry. My guide was Romero, who is as charismatic as he is passionate about what he does and it shows. I had the distinct honor in quickly getting to know him as some others in the group bailed. So I had a 1:1 ride. I was an amateur rider. It's been 10 years since I last rode and telling him this, I learned a few new things along our ride. He even did some impressive acrobatics on his horse! Nothing but great things to say about our accommodations at Chanslor Ranch! A few members of our staff and clients took a trip horse camping in the Bodega Bay area a couple weeks ago and Chanslor Ranch was able to make arrangements for our 4 horses for overnight board. They were very well taken care of with quality hay feedings and large pastures/paddocks to stay in that were cleaned for us daily. Their staff was kind, informative, and helpful! We were also very glad to see how well they took care of their horses. They fed many meals throughout the day, all areas were free of manure, their horses (even with daily trail exercise) had rolling hills as far as you could see to run and graze when not being ridden, and amazing farrier care. Its so awesome to see a trail ride company go above and beyond for their horses! Sadly, that is not always standard. read more

Not so great. The horse have no life in their eyes The lady was driving like a bat out of hell with the poor babies in the trailer to get the horses out to the loading zone. Did not like the condescending attitude of the lady who checked us in. She talks to you like you're an idiot. I don't remember her name. We took the beach ride. Beautiful but boring as hell. We had to ride in single file the whole time, even once we got to the beach. We might as well have dropped the reins and sat there like a sack of grain. So disappointing. No good photo opts. because they make you ride single file can't talk to your party can't see their faces. The poor horses look very sad. Never again. read more

It was the first time my daughter was on a horse again after a pretty bad accident 5 years ago. I could not be happier that she had her first "back in the saddle" experience with T @ Chanslor Ranch. Scott took us on the Salmon Creek Trail Ride and it was amazing!! I rode Maddie the mule, while my fiancé rode Guinness the Clydesdale. We love you Chanslor Ranch. I was surprised to see so many reviews on here because both times I've visited the ranch I felt so secluded (which I loved), it was as if no one else knew about this beautiful place! But I'm glad to see so many amazing reviews because the ranch deserves it. First of all it's in such a wonderful location in Bodega Bay. You feel like you're out in the wild, so far from civilization, but most of the little shops and restaurants and markets are literally less than ten minutes down the road. You're close to Petaluma, Sonoma, Occidental, Sebastopol, and Napa. Think of all the wine tasting nearby! And the beach is just right there, you can literally see the ocean from the ranch. It's a super short drive or you can kayak down Salmon Creek to the beach from the ranch. Even though there's so many rad places and an amazing ocean minutes away, my husband and I find ourselves spending most of our vacation time on the ranch. We've stayed twice and it's just so relaxing. You get your own campfire pit and endless access to freshly chopped wood. You can wander around and see horses, goats, pigs, and dogs. The few people you see are friendly. The fog at night is so pretty and cold. You can hike or kayak or horseback ride or lounge. Drive right into town if you need anything! The WiFi doesn't work very well, that's the only negative a can think of. But it's more vacation-y when you can actually disconnect. read more

So my wife and I ride a lot horses, we have done vineyard horse back and beaches and mountain areas. So we booked the horse back and kayak adventure which was 3hrs. My wife loves kayaking its her happy place, when we arrived at the ranch the staff was very friendly. our tour guide was great, we started our trail ride towards the river to get on the kayaks. once we got there the river was full of algae and very low, so low that we hit a ground. We had to get out which was a disappointment. So we proceeded with the ride, so they gave my wife a mule which was literally uncontrollable it kept doing whatever it wanted, to the point that the tour guide had to pull it from his horse. Look I'm not trying to bash this place the scenery was beautiful, but if your going to offer and kayak adventure do your do diligence by checking the tides and making sure that there is enough water for kayaking. they did refund us some of the money which was nice of them, but the experience could have been better. read more

As an avid traveller, I always take a trail ride when visiting a destination. Bodega Bay isn't a place normally associated with horses, so I was pleased to find Chanslor Ranch. My wonderful ride was wrangled by Taylor and I couldn't have had a better ride on Dr. Pepper. In fact, I don' know that I've ever enjoyed myself more. It was a cool morning in and around the Miwok trails and we saw waterfowl, rabbits and deer as our horses took us the gentle sloping hills that overlooking the Pacific Ocean. I am so thankful to Taylor for pacing the ride perfectly. The horses are so well cared for and the ranch is beautiful. I recommend to my fellow equine lovers making a trail ride on this this ranch a must if visiting Bodega Bay, then heading down the road a few miles to Fishetarian for grilled oysters and some chowder. read more

We had an amazing time - Ramiro was terrific! We've only been on trail rides and a morning ride on the beach in perfect weather has always been a bucket list item... Ramiro put us at ease by first ensuring confidence in our horses and then by walking us through a series of thorough answers to our many questions... He's a bit of a comedian (and an acrobat) but you can immediately sense his passion for the animals and his commitment to our having a memorable and safe ride. By the end of our ride, he had us galloping as if we had been riding for years. The beach, buttressed by sand dunes with views of the marina and Bodega Bay, Osprey and Red-tailed Hawks - Only three other people on a mile long stretch of gorgeous beach - It was truly a phenomenal day!!! read more

Update: we've now done the Eagle Ridge ride, the Salmon Creek Ride, and just completed the Sunset ride the other day (ending with a nice charcuterie picnic on a sheltered porch looking west at the sunset or south at the horses and flocks of redwinged black birds). Guides have all been good--and the views are incredible. The horses are well-matched to the rider, willing and happy to follow along and even trot occasionally. This year's guide Zadenka (sp?), was cheerful and full of information--it's calm enough you have lots of time for birdwatching and stopping for photos. Definitely on the to do list for our annual trip to Sonoma. Highly recommend. We've never stayed over in their BnB's--but the place is magical and the horses keep increasing and all seem happy and interested in visitors. read more

What a disappointing private beach ride. Staff is scrambling to accommodate guests b/c owners are too cheap to buy a second trailer & help out. Our guide didn't introduce herself & didn't speak to us the whole ride. Worst of all, the horses seem depressed. Owners need to do better.... We've been coming here for years. Caitlyn(Kaitlyn?) was amazing. She was very patient with us and so cute! I felt comfortable riding with her and if I were to go again, I would want her to be our guide. My group of 4 booked a private ride on the Salmon Creek trail, and it was great! When we went it was foggy, so definitely try to go on a sunnier day. Wear long pants/closed toe shoes, and dress warm if you're going when it's below 60F because it was soooo windy. Prepare for a small workout if your horse ends up trotting for a bit. The ranch itself was beautiful and green, and seeing the other horses run around the field was awesome. We came from San Jose and booked the 3pm ride, so if you're driving from near SJ, leave the house earlier than later! Traffic was pretty bad going up to the ranch around San Francisco. read more

Haven't been on a horse in a long time and we didn't know what to expect. We set up for a trail ride on the Salmon Creek trail on a cool Saturday afternoon. Our trail guide, Arvin was the best. He was very attentive to our questions and needs during the ride. The horses were wonderful to ride. We all had a great time on our horses, Duke, Sargent, and Idaho. The owners and staff were helpful and friendly, so we had some good conversations about trail riding. Such a nice area to ride, we'll be back. I would give it 10 Stars if possible! This place made us feel like family, from the camping, to the horses you couldn't ask for any friendlier, informative and helpful staff. We were fortunate to have come here. Being a horse person I found the horses to be given excellent care and good food, lots of room to run and great staff for reservations and trail guides . This is the place to come and ride their horse on the beach or on the beautiful trails at the Ranch. Lots of area to ride get to see all types of livestock, and suitable horses for all types of riders, they will find the right horse for you and make sure before heading out that you are comfortable with your horse. This place has disgusting facilities to top of the lack of customer service. There was only one restroom to use when purchasing a horse back rode. It would have been cleaner to use the stables with the horses. Next time I will go to cloverleaf ranch or about her venue because even though chanslor ranch has the views and location it is far from a hospitable experience. It's pretty sad when a 5 year old has no desire to ever go back to even look at their horses. read more

My 78 year old mother in law decided she wanted a bucket list horse ride. We live in Sonoma county so we thought we'd try Chanslor Ranch. The horses were lovely and all the people were friendly. Our guide Charles was patient and knowledgeable. As this was a first ride in over 30 years for either of us, we were grateful. We went on the eagle ridge trail where we saw alpacas, lovely flora and amazing ocean views. Our horses, Elvis and Polly treated us gently. They felt happy to be there. Do you love to be close to nature but dislike the discomfort of camping? Then you will love glamping. It is exactly as it sounds : glamorous way of camping. With glamping there is no need to pitch a tent or set up your inflatable mattress because it's all set up for you. If you don't go camping because you have back pain from those inflatable mattresses than you will adore this comfortable bed with luxury linens and touches of beautiful details. One of the best things about glamping is the wood-burning stove inside the glamping tent that keeps you oh so warm. We had cots added to our room because we wanted to spend quality time with our children but without the bunk beds it is very spacious. Chanslor Guest Ranch is a 375 acre nature preserve which means that there are plenty of hiking opportunities and exploring that can be done here. If your not big on hiking then you'll love activities such as horseback riding or kayaking. We enjoyed Chanslor Guest Ranch on two rainy days. We were not able to enjoy other activities besides hiking and by hiking I mean one mile or so before it started raining again. We stayed in the Turkey Point glamping tent and loved the frequent visits from the 4 ranch pigs. The farm girl in me loved drinking coffee in this farm environment. Had an amazing trail ride. Rained heavily the night before, thus, our guides, Rene and Jeff, did their best to keep us safe on muddy trails and still show us amazing views of the property and ocean. My two young children had a blast as well. One of their horses kept grazing (who could blame the horse, the grass was extremely lush). However, this started to make my girl a bit uncomfortable. Rene calmed her down quickly and ponied her horse the rest of the way. Rene was extremely accommodating and both, she and Jeff, made sure we had a great ride. I would highly recommend this location, especially if riding with children. read more
