Every year for my son's birthday, we head over to Bodega Bay. We always rent kayaks and paddle around the bay. The staff are always friendly and make sure you have an incredible experience. Took the family kayaking using a Groupon. Staff were great set us up with all the stuff we needing and gave us a little lesson and sent us on our way. Excellent spot to kayak we got to see otters swim up to our kayak and paddleboard. Once we were finished we went across the way to the ice cream spot and kids grabbed a scoop of ice cream and hubby grabbed a bowl of chowder at the restaurant on the corner . Bodega Bay Kayak was a fun adventure and the owner (Bob) was super friendly and helpful! I was on the fence about kayaking in 55-degree February weather but it was actually quite pleasant on the water. The harbor area is beautiful and we saw a couple sea lions and a lot of birds. The kayaks are wider and sturdier than any kayak I've ever been in, which is nice for staying dry but maybe not the most aerodynamic. Really the only downside is that rentals are a 4 hour minimum so it's pretty expensive if you want to take a short paddle. Next time I would plan to pack a lunch / supplies and check out more waterside activities. read more

We had a great experience here this past weekend. On our way up we got stuck in traffic and needed to push our appointment back by about an hour. They were very accommodating! The guy at the front desk, who we spoke with on the phone, was very pleasant and helpful. He gave us a map and some written instructions to get to the kayaking spot. There we met up with Bob who had all of the equipment set up and ready to go. He talked to us about where to go, what to expect and some tips and tricks. Very straight forward and well explained. We cut our 4 hours short because of a passing "storm" that ended up clearing within the hour. We were a little bummed, thinking we missed out on more quality kayaking time! But Bob read our minds and offered a discount on our next adventure with BBK. We can't wait to come back! This is not the place to put a deposit down on a kayak, I did this last year and reserved for mothers day due to inclement weather I had to change dates. I changed to another day and again inclement weather kept my wife and me off the water, when we realized a month later that there was not a time that we could commit to we asked for a refund. Bob the owner refused our request, and by this time I could not challenge it with my credit card co. so I will eat the 35.00 but I find this attitude less than desirable. So, just a word of caution when dealing with this company, they have no scruples. read more

I am bummed to see that there are not more reviews from people who bought the Living Social deal. Come on people, if you are going to be able to experience something at rock bottom prices you should at least return the favor with publicity. I have to say that I have not yet been able to experience kayaking. I bought the deal, and due to job timing issues (employment, than unemployment, than sudden employment again) I procrastinated till the last weekend before the deadline. Because they were booked full they were nice enough to extend the deal by three weeks. I booked our trip for this past Saturday at 10am, and was a little bummed to receive a call from Bob that we should come a little earlier because there was high winds on the forecast (we live 2 hours away). We were on our way that next morning when I received a call that it was too dangerous to do the Bay. I got pretty upset, but I eventually realized that it isn't BBK's fault! Obviously a business has to worry about the safety of their clients above everything. Bob really did go out of his way to provide options for us: he offered us an alternative excursion (which in hindsight I wish we'd taken that day!), a refund, or we could try again the following day. The last option was the plan, but unfortunately we both got terrible food poisoning and were up for most of the night, and by the time we went to sleep when the sun was coming up there was no way I'd be able to call him at 7am to make our early-morning trip. I plan on still using our deal, even if we have to pay a little extra, because it seems like a fun experience and they seem like an awesome business. They are clearly a small business, and it is rough out there for any small business. I do think that Bodega Bay Kayak should stress that inclement weather is common and can cancel your excursion. A first-timer like me, without a lot of money, free time or babysitters (and who doesn't live in the area) needs a much clearer disclaimer than most. But I do think that Tim H's 1 star review over $35 (when they couldn't commit to another weekend) seems kinda harsh. I do hope to have my experience with Bodega Bay Kayak. I have heard they are amazing from both a co-worker and a couple of locals we met over the weekend, and this is definitely on my "To Do List" before I die! read more

We booked, paid and drive over to the meeting point with our Kayak guy who showed us the ropes and where the beat routes we're. We rowed up to the beach and then back to the marshy land. Prepare yourselves... I am about to gush HARD about Bob and BBK! Having never been to Bodega Bay before, we weren't sure what to expect kayaking-wise, but as soon as I called BBK and requested to book an excursion I knew I was in good hands. Bob (the owner) gave me a sprightly rundown and reserved a spot for us, no problem. The day before (less than 24 hours) I called requesting to add another kayaker and move the time to later in the day. Bob called me back directly and adjusted the reservation without any hesitation. He even gave me a direct number to text if I needed ANYTHING. Day of, everything went off without a hitch! Bob was prompt, informative and SO FUN! He took pictures and texted them to us. Took my team from around the US kayaking in Bodega Bay last week. Bob was fantastic to work with, very helpful communication and over the top service, easy to work with. My husband and I have rented kayaks quite a few times in several cities and this was the best experience we've ever had. Bob was great and gave us truly helpful information about what to expect and where to go. They provided life vests, a dry bag for our backpack and a waterproof case for our phone in case we wanted to take pictures. All at no extra cost!
