Went on a few canoe trips with my family at Burkes when I was a kid and now that I'm older I wanted to take my girlfriend on a trip. I made a reservation for a canoe trip the day before for a Sunday, but we got there early enough the next day so there was no need for the reservation. Getting the canoe was easy. The trip was fun, not rushed, and a good workout. A bit expensive but worth it for a 6+ hour day. Overall fun trip and I want to make it a yearly thing!

My husband and I rented a 2 person kayak for our anniversary in August and had a great time! The water wasn't moving very fast in August so we had to work a little more but it was beautiful and fun. We made sure to get there when they opened so we wouldn't get stuck battling the wind towards the afternoon as we headed west. We also went midweek so there would not be a crowd. We were just about the only people on the river the whole day stopping for 15 minutes or so for lunch and a swim. It took 3 1/2-4 hours and the bus was waiting for us when we arrived to shuttle us back to the car. Very great way to spend the day!

By far the best memories of my life. We started off by tipping over in ankle high water! We were experts wink wink. So much fun it is a workout so arrive early and take your time. We now make this an annual trip. Bring your friends and family and make memories!

Such an awesome rope swing !!

My first time canoeing down the Russian river was for my friends birthday this past saturday. We had a group of about 18 people and we got 9 canoes. 2 people per canoe. I mean I guess we could have gotten more people in each canoe but there are only 2 spots to sit in the canoe otherwise you will sit on a small bar. There is a lot of paddling involved as the current is super slow in places and you won't get far if you don't paddle. If you are a novice at paddling it will be a lot harder for you. Make sure you have the more experienced person sit in the back of the canoe as that person will be the one doing the steering and maneuvering mostly. Oh and the canoes are not the most sturdy things so if one person leans one way it it can possibly tip the canoe. Just an fyi. Overall the scenery was absolutly beautiful on the river and there were a couple of rope swings off a bridge and off the side of the river. The one off the bridge is super fun! There is also a random swing set up on the side of the river which is also pretty cool. We brought ice chests with booze and food and the Burkes didn't even check our coolers since we thought they would we hid our booze under water and gatorade. They aren't as strict as their website seems they would be. The bus ride back was fairly quick maybe like 15 or 20 min. The awesome part is that they do hold your keys for you which is awesome. The river is pretty shallow in most places to where you can just push the canoe and some places you can get stuck. I'd highly recommend Burkes canoe as I want to go again!!

And here we go...

If you want to get out of your home and be close to nature without hiking... this is a great way to do it. The people running this business are very nice and super friendly. I like the "on your own" way, they just give you the canoe and you go for it... the only thing you need to be sure is that you know how to swim. The current of the river is very weak but enough to take you, even if it takes you time on how to maneuver the canoe, it is pretty easy and your instinct will help you. The ride is nice and you can stop at any place to just lay down or do your picnic. I enjoyed a lot this trip with my high school friend that came to visit me from my homeland, a lot of shutting the s&#* and update about ourselves... ha ha ha :) At the end, you leave the canoe and they take you in their bus to the parking lot of your car. I will do it again next summer.

Was here July 1st thru the 3rd, a great place to camp and canoe!

It is near the Russian River just outside of Guerneville. Redwood vibes similar to some parts of the Santa Cruz range or Marin Hills, but nothing that compares to the big redwoods in Northern California like near Humbolt Co or Crescent City, those are next level. There's a fee to park inside the park. Think it was about $10. It gets busy during the weekends and spaces can be super limited if you come after 11am. We were with a toddler, so we stayed on the main flat trails that go through redwood groves. It is very shady and well trafficked trails. There are a few loops you can join together, and the circumference may be a 2-3 mile hike. But you can do however long you want it to be. Now the trails that elevate into the hills are much more involved. It can elevate to a 1300 foot gain which is pretty strenuous. I haven't tried those yet but it is on my list to try. But even the easy trails that one day, was still beautiful and relaxing. To majestic red bark trees with healthy ferns all on the ground cover, fallen trees to climb on, large rocks to hop on was just a nice jaunt especially with young kids. We brought a light lunch and refreshments and were able to run into a small area with picnic benches. Perfect way to end a few hours steeped in nature, without having to be totally in the wild. Great intro for those that aren't too versed (yet) and to get them exposed to nature, ecosystems and wildlife. Connect with the world amongst which you live with but rarely see. Weekend mission accomplished!

The sites are spread out and spacious so you won't have someone right on top of you. The sites are kept up so nicely and the campground itself is simply gorgeous. The bathrooms are clean, there are several free showers, and there is firewood for sale as well. The town of Guerneville itself is only five minutes away, and there are tons of cute little shops as well as a major grocery store. There are darling little art galleries, clothing stores, bakeries, ice cream shops, coffee shops, etc. The ocean is only a 25 minute drive down the road. There are endless little beaches to stop at, as well as numerous little beachside towns with restaurants and coffee shops. You can spend a whole day exploring highway 1, then head back to your campsite to relax. I feel so lucky to only live 3 hours away and be able to head there any time I want. I'm so grateful to Kelly and Mikal for being so accommodating and kind.

It is considered glamping but the hot water in shower ran out fast, not much to do in lodge, main group gas fire pit kept going out (front desk said it needs to be fixed) and for the price that fire should be going 24/7 and be fixed ASAP if broken. Also, they are very strict on firewood. Must be compressed or hardened wood. I understand this rule as regular wood tends to put off embers and so is a higher fire risk than compressed wood like Duraflame, but the guy who noticed my regular wood (before I realized the rule) and who lectured me about it was kind of douchey. They sell some but at more than double to triple what you can get it for at store. It is upselling at that price which is off-putting. So basically $400 in an Airstream and not near water or accessible lake or stream is a bit rude and glamping amenities not great...worth max $200. Coffee was good though Next time I camp will be with the state or book with Hip Camp. There is a very cool restaurant down the road called Saucy Mamas. Definitely check it out.

It felt very safe, and the staff were super kind and helpful. The woman at the front desk helped us plan a route, and thanks to her we ended up having an amazing two days. Guerneville is SO beautiful, we'll definitely be back. Korbel is literally next door and we loved it, so if you stay here, don't skip it. The only downside --and honestly it's kind of a big one -- is how extremely close the airstreams are to each other. Yes, you can't really see inside and there is visual privacy, but you come here for the forest, the trees, the fresh air... and then there's another aistream right next to you. It feels a bit like camping, but make it packed. I really wish they had fewer trailers with more space between them, because the setting itself is incredible. People come here to disconnect and spread out a little, not to feel like sardines in the woods.

The only disappointment was that one of the three riverside tents was not next to the other two, even though we had booked the tents in 1 reservation. I thought I had confirmed they were next to each other, but it did not work out that way. While we were at Wildhaven, we had horrible rainy weather. However, our family still had a blast! The rain didn't stop the kids from biking, scootering, fishing, etc. We made the best of it and everyone had a great time. The facilities were clean, the tents were spacious, the beds were very comfortable and the website accurately described all amenities. We paid extra for the early check in and it was worth it because it gave us more time to get settled in before heading to the river and maximizing our first day. I would recommend water shoes for adults and kids because the river is really rocky. We failed to bring water shoes and lost two pairs of sandals that floated down stream. I understand that holiday pricing comes at a premium, but the experience did not match the cost particularly when it comes to cleanliness. Cleanliness: We stayed in a cabin with an upstairs bunk. Upon arrival, we went upstairs and immediately noticed that the extra blanket and pillows had visible stains on the storage bag something that looked like dried cake batter or butter. There was also dirt and grass throughout the bunk area. This made us question whether this space had been properly cleaned before our stay. The communal bathroom area was even more concerning. There was a strong odor, and it appeared as though someone had either dropped something or vomited on the geoun, and it had clearly not been cleaned. It was extremely unpleasant. It was also disappointing to see that there is only one bathroom and shower area for the entire property, especially when the site appears to be nearly fully booked. The bathrooms get very busy. Additionally, there is only one family/baby changing area, and there was visible mildew growing in the shower. For nearly $400 per night (for two nights), we could have stayed at AutoCamp, which offers cleaner facilities, more amenities, and overall better value. The Cabin: To be fair, the cabin itself was comfortable and well designed. I would rate the cabin itself a 5/5. It was nicely insulated, the heated bed was a great touch, and having both heater and A/C was appreciated. However, we were surprised there was no full-length mirror in the cabin. Almost every glamping experience we've had includes one, so it was an odd omission. Bathrooms & Facilities: The bathrooms are very outdated and in need of a serious refresh. It would be helpful to take notes from Mendocino Grove they have truly perfected the glamping experience and set a high standard. Overall, the potential is there, but for the price point, cleanliness and shared facilities need significant improvement.

The park backs up to some private residences along the bay road. So it was not exactly rustic and peaceful, but it was still a nice place to hang out for a few days. As long as you can tune out the foghorn, you'll be okay. If that kind of thing bothers you (it would have driven me crazy in my younger years), then you best be as far from the bay as you can get. The foghorn sounds every 10 seconds, fog or no fog, 24/7. Most of the campsites have plenty of room, but some are better and more spacious than others. You can hike the dune trail from the campground (no dogs allowed, but watch for horses). We drove to the parking lot at the beach area, and walked down to the beach. It seemed nice, but it was windy and a bit rainy, so I didn't spend much time checking it out. Besides, I'm more interested in dog-friendly beaches. I'm sure that the campground has a totally different feel during the summer months, but in March, there was not much activity. We were one of the few campers in our campground loop, so very low key. Bathrooms and showers were clean. Tokens are needed for the shower. The token machine accepts dollar bills. Special Notes: No dogs allowed on the trails or on the beach. Motorhomes are limited to 31 feet. There is an RV water filling and dump station. As for the dune trails, I thought I could hike to the beach from the campground. But I hiked the trail to the road, crossed the road, and then the trail branched off onto several different pathways, all which ended abruptly. So I don't recommend it, at least not in March. May be a bit different in summer. Overall, this state park is a decent home base for exploring Bodega Bay and the Sonoma Coast.
