I tried boogie boarding for the first time this weekend, so I needed a wetsuit for the day. The employee who helped me with the rental was kind and extremely helpful. As I am approaching 60, I was worried that he might find the idea of my adventure entertaining. Not the case at all. He seemed happy to help me get outfitted and answered all my questions with positivity. When I brought the gear back today, Bob was super kind and enthusiastic. When he heard how much I enjoyed my experience in the water, he offered to let me purchase the wetsuit I had worn and what seemed to be a great price. The clerk inside was also super helpful and patient in finding me booties and a leash for my board. Great team and group of folks! I will be back as I need more gear for sure! read more

I enjoy stopping by Bodega Bay Surf Shack when I'm in the area. They a fun collection of name brand hoodies, bathing suits, hats and more from brands like Volcom and O'Neil as well as their own logo's items. They also seem to rent kayaks, stock wet suits and often will host a food truck in their lot. It seems like a less touristy, more locals spot. They had some pretty good deals on sweatshirtr the last time I was there with 30% off. Very nice staff-come check them out! read more

Our family of six got to the shop early for our kayaking appointment and although Scotty was still setting up, he was very welcoming. When the kayaks were ready, we met Bob at the harbor. He gave us helpful tips, made sure we were safe and sent us on our way. We enjoyed kayaking for a couple of hours. The water was nice and calm, and the weather perfect! There were seals in the harbor and birds. When we were done , Bob was there to meet us and gave us recommendations for a delicious lunch and nearby trails. I'm just going to start by apologizing if I spelled any of the employees name wrong , but from beginning to end my family and I had a great experience! The young man at the surf shack starts with a P like pacson I can be wrong it was hard to hear with masks -__- I'm so sorry but he such a great multi-tasker , great customer service , and still self aware of how many people coming in and out of the store and wearing masks due to covid . So 5 starts for him , he's will definitely go far in any business/job ! We were walk ins and he made the process easy and quick , then we headed down to the water and met Annie she was so sweet and helpful , instructions super clear and we went off into the water had a great time. Weather was perfect! At the end we got lucky , and I believe the owner was there he was a gentleman and grabbed everything for us at the end of us finishing kayaking. Bodega Bay Surf Shack (Bodega Bay Kayak) helped us have the best day possible! We checked in at the shack then met Bob at the bay where he had our kayak and dry bags ready. We saw seals, leopard sharks, sting rays and herons. Such amazing wildlife. I realize we were very lucky with weather, but Bob made our day happen! Loved the whole experience. My boyfriend and I were visiting Bodega Bay for a couple of day and on Monday 8/23 we decided to go kayaking in the bay. Stopped by this kayak rental place and got there right as they were opening. The woman working there saw us and immediately greeted us and offered her help as she was opening up. We waited a few mins for her to get set up and then came in to the shop to sign up for our rentals. The process was quick and easy the directions she gave for us to go meet the other man with the kayaks were easy to understand. Once we got to the bay to meet the man with the kayaks he gave us our instructions and answered any questions we had. I rented 2 kayaks from this shop based off of the reviews on Yelp, and I am glad that I did. The young people at the shop were so helpful from the first phone call inquiry up until the return of the kayaks, they were very knowledgeable, kind, and full of positive energy. After starting at the Surf Shack we went to meet Uncle Bob who had the kayaks near the water's edge. He was so friendly and so nice to my 2 young godchildren. We got outfitted with a weight appropriate life jacket and paddles and then got into our kayaks that were waiting for us on the edge of the water. None of us had much experience kayaking and Bob chose the calmest portion of the bay for us beginners. He also gave us lots of useful tips to use while out on the water (including how to paddle so that you don't knock the 5 year old you are sharing a single kayak with in the face with the paddle!). When we were done with the kayaks we were able to leave them on the shore for Bob to collect later. Even though we didn't go deep in the bay we still saw a good amount of wildlife, lots and lots of interesting water fowl and even a cute and friendly seal lion that floated past us. Cason taught Charlie how to surf yesterday and we had a great experience! He was the youngest in the group and Cason seemed to "get" that and give him age appropriate instruction and extra attention. Definitely recommended for any beginner kayaker! Our first time ever kayaking. I just got back from Bodega Bay with my SO this weekend to celebrate our anniversary! One of the things we did was kayaking rentals from the Surf Shack. One of the funnest experiences in my life! Lilly and Bob were both terrific! We were given a map from Lilly and the gear was provided by Bob where he actually meets you at the location and drops it off for you before giving you instructions. The instructions were straight forward and easy, we had no problems at all. Within at least 30 minutes of taking off from shore, my SO and I felt like professionals already! It was such a great experience. They are very professional with everything they do. I would definitely like to go again in the next few months for summer. Just finished the second of two surf lessons with Lilly. It would be no exaggeration to say she totally changed the trajectory of my surfing. After having plateaued for about the last year, she immediately diagnosed the problem and got me consistently timing and catching waves. She is smart, patient, and most of all crystal clear. They rented me a wetsuit that was way too thin and did nothing in the water and didn't warn me at all and also rented flippers that did not fit at all and when I returned the wetsuit after less than 8 hours they only offered to give me back 3 of the $30 it cost to rent it I could have been cold for free! Had my first surf lesson here with Cason. Superrrrr awesome little shack packed with gear and goodies. Cason was awesome, super knowledgeable. He made the entire lesson crazy fun and everyone got many chances to catch a small wave and stand up. It was a blast and I will def be surfing again! Bodega Bay Surf Shack is an awesome shop. You'll find lots of surf shops out there run or staffed by people with little to no surfing experience and that can be difficult to deal with when you're looking for advice on finding the right gear for yourself. But not the Surf Shack. Bob (the owner) is a long time local surfer in Bodega Bay and a great source of info for gear and local knowledge and his other employees I dealt with were very knowledgeable surfers as well and very helpful. They even taught me some things about the equipment I was looking for that I didn't know, introduced me to some new and better brands and I'm very happy with the board and suit I ended up buying there. This shop won't steer you in the wrong direction just to make a sale. Bob knows every inch of this coast and can send you in the right direction no matter if you're looking to surf, rent surf equipment or a kayak, or if you're just looking to buy some new gear, clothing or a board or wetsuit. They stocks some of the best high end surfboard brands in the industry and even some great affordable boards made by local shapers, and their wetsuit selection in huge! No other surf shop in this area comes close ( I looked) and it's the only shop on the coast and the last shop heading north until you get to Mendocino. And it's not just surf gear at The Surf Shack, they have lots of clothing, shoes, hats and souvenirs as well. It's a great surf shop and I highly recommend you shop here if you're in the area. Was driving by looking for good surf spots in the area when I came across this Surf Shack. The staff was super friendly and very helpful. They answered all of my questions and highlighted everything they had on sale that day. There selection of gear is decent and they truly are the size of a shack. The owner and Annie were extremely friendly and not only helped us with instruction , local knowledge on where to paddle to see wild life but they even transported the paddle boards to the beach for us.
