Crabbing is great and there's lots to do from clamming to fishing to exploring. We saw last time they are building toilets and showers, that will be nice. We haven't experienced any rude staff. The new car thing is a bit annoying, but not outlandish since we've been to many other places where they are strict with extra cars. In the peak of summer it's very crowded and there can be some sketchy people, you might want to lock up or put away coolers or anything expensive.

The Owner, a person I would NEVER want to be be associated with. A real piece of work. Observed many times over the years shares entitled rude behavior with that of a tycoon. Two years ago, I'll never forget, this guy was complaining to ANY Customer who would listen about how he does so much to keep this place open and that people that complain about anything and everything are so ungrateful. It was really really colorful and downright disgusting. Excuse me? The people that PAY YOUR TAXES are ungrateful that you don't upgrade the sites they pay extreme amounts for? That you don't offer any amenities such as a shower or even that thing called...electricity? That you cater towards camping trailers with no water hookups? Mmmm, ok guy. Breathe. You do not provide toilets. Let alone ADA compliant areas for the toilets. You provide nasty ports potty that aren't even level on the ground. How is anyone supposed to wheelchair into the porta potty? They shake when you are in them. And they are disgusting. Your workers? blast them with a sudo washer and don't even take out the seat covers OR the toilet paper....and miss all the grossness. And then leave the residual water/product....that's just nasty. You blast gross stuff off the floor ONTO the toilet paper and seat covers because of laziness. I mean seriously....it's barely 50 outside and now I have to sit on a nasty went porta potty because your are too lazy to upgrade, let alone move paper until you are done? Penny pinch much? And what a concept of adding a smelly paper tree to remove some nasty stink. The photos are of the "handicap" porta potty. The others were gross, too. If not worse. These were after a "clean" too! You also do not provide electricity or anything that resembles comfort here. The grounds are totally unlevel on the camp sites. So, you won't be seeing many disabled folks here. OOOOO, all the dumpsters were FULL. Everywhere. It was a Wednesday. Majority of the camp sites are behind dunes. Unless you go to the seawall area, with no running water there either. Nothing to see but your neighbors getting drunk and dogs wandering everywhere. Fun. Never saw a "camp ranger" once. You have so many sites crammed next to one another so you can benefit off making money. 60$ for a pair of sweats? What? Like, woah guy. Ego much? Ohhhh, let's talk about the campers! Zero enforcement. Parking in other peoples spots and parking IN the roadways. Legit blocking people. And then have rude persons get defensive because they got asked politely to move their illegally parked vehicles from your purchased spot. So like, no, this place is not great. You get belligerent people and their visitors.....mmmmm, fun. This place is not worth it. Overcrowded, too. This isn'y Yosemite, and if it were, it would at least offer real amenities. This place does not.

I ended up asking the owner for some advice on how to get started in the local waters. He was incredibly helpful- not only did he recommend a specific spoon spinner, but he even took the time to show me the best way to cast and retrieve it for the river. This place is definitely a local gem. Whether you're a regular or you're like me and somehow managed to leave your tackle box at home, it's a great spot to drop by. Great service and even better advice!

Kayaking the Russian River is something I've had on my to do list for years. This summer, with the…read moreriver still flowing nicely well in to July, I decided to finally make it a priority for a weekend adventure. In reading, Yelp and other reviews all signs indicated that King's was THE place. I had stopped in the shop during other trips to Guerneville to check out their outdoor clothing and accessories, so I was familiar with them. I had decided on what's labeled as their Trip #2 on the website which is a 5 mile kayak (self guided) from Johnson's Beach to Monte Rio. I called and reserved a tandem kayak about 4 days in advance and was given a few options of a start time. I choose 11 am since we were driving in from the East Bay and didn't want to leave home too early. They were super friendly and helpful when calling and made sure we understood the trip details and were booking the right package for our skills and needs. A credit card number is required to hold your reservation. We arrived closer to 10::30 and luckily found parking on the street right near the shop-I was worried about that on a summer Sunday but maybe getting there earlier helped. The girl who checked us in was super knowledgeable and made sure she showed us a map of our route, which includes a small section where you need to get out of your kayak and walk it about 200 yards around the dam to circumvent it and then launch back in. We were provided a dry bag, paddles, kayak and life vests. They have you walk a few blocks down to Johnson's Beach and they meet you there with the kayak. This year, after the 2023 rainy winter, the river was flowing nicely-we had a mostly smooth paddle down the river. For quite a while we had quite a bit of solitude and it was so peaceful and lovely with the river and redwoods. Things got a little busier towards Monte Rio beach and downright chaotic as we had to navigate hoards of people swimming with no situational awareness of our kayak and others coming through. It was a relief to get past it and get our kayak to the boat launch. You call Kings as you approach Monte Rio to schedule your pick up. They were there for us to shuttle us back to Guerneville within 5 minutes of us leaving the water. I had the most wonderful day out on the river. We saw lots of water birds and turtles and for the most part it was a very serene trip, Highly recommend Kings and would 100% use them again. They know the river well and gave us advice about certain areas and seem like they truly love what they do!

He was awesome at making us feel prepared and his sense of humor really helped everyone feel at ease. I was especially impressed of how he helped 2 guests who were clearly scared of the kayak flipping over during the tour, primarily by being a calm, patient guide. I would definitely go back to him! Overall, our group was blessed to be out there on an overcast night, which allowed us to see a lot of the bioluminescent silhouettes of fish that swam under and around us throughout the tour.

They do this particular tour on nights when there's little to no moonlight since that is when you will best see the sparkling creatures in the bay. It embarks from Miller's Boat Launch near Nick's Cove in Marshall. It's not far from Point Reyes, so if you're spending time at the seashore, this is a magical way to end your day. They begin at 8 with very detailed instructions for your gear and paddling. Between that and then launching the boats in your group, you actually get on the water about 8:45 and return to the dock around 11 pm. It was a windy and foggy evening, so unfortunately, there were no sunset views. But the novelty of paddling in twighlight in to the evening more than made up for that. We had flocks of pelicans flying overhead and once we got to darker areas, the real star of the show came out to sparkle. You can see the bioluminescence light up as you paddle or run your fingers in the water. We stopped a few times along some coves and even saw the sparkles lap up on the sandy shores. We had 3 guides -one leading, one in the middle and one at the back to make sure no boats were left behind. The ride out was a bit choppy but we had paddlers of all levels in our group and everyone did okay. The guides made sure to check in with everyone and we'd count off boats to make sure we all caught up, We got to hear information about the seashore and the surrounding waters and the local creatures. The time flew by and it was such a wonderful, magical experience. If you haven't night kayaked, I'd definitely say to try it once. I hope to travel with Blue waters again and try one of their day trips, While it's important to dress warm and wear waterproof shoes, they do provide dry bags, a waterproof top and of course all the safety gear for your excursion.

From the moment we arrived, the staff set the tone--friendly, relaxed, and clearly used to getting families (and their dogs) out on the water without a hitch. They handed us dry bags, coolers, and a dog life jacket like they'd done it a hundred times--which they probably had. Our six-year-old was buzzing with excitement, and our dog--suited up and riding in the canoe like he owned the place--looked pretty pleased too. The Russian River was calm and beautiful, with just enough current to make us feel like we knew what we were doing. We drifted past quiet stretches shaded by trees, then through livelier areas near Rio Nido with the hum of music and voices carrying over the water. We also saw some wildlife like fish, ducks, some majestic herons. We stopped on a little island for a picnic, skipped rocks, and let the kid and the dog roam like it was their own private world. Coming back, sun-tired and sandy, the staff greeted us with icees. Nothing fancy--but exactly what you want at the end of a good day. We really enjoyed this fun adventure and we'd rent from River's Edge Kayak and Canoe again in a heartbeat.

What an awesome shop packed with amazing customer service (thx JP and Mike (I hope I got that…read moreright)), and of course, anything you need to get yo' fish on! (Or in my case, crab on!) After a brutal day of work (BOOOOOOOO!!) I decided to treat myself to some retail therapy (YAAAAAASSSS!!). And, I'm so glad I did! I certainly left with my hands full and a smile on my face. Newly exposed to shore crabbing, I couldn't wait to get some crabbing gear. I wanted to shop n support local so I gave North Bay Fishing Tackle a visit. I was kindly greeted as soon as I walked in and was asked if there was anything I needed help with (love that). I got straight to the point and I was guided to their combo rod n reel for crabbing. Not only was it a combo rod n real, but it also included a crab snare and fishing line for a really, really reasonable price. I can't forget to mention that the line was already spooled on the reel. Internally, my jaw dropped to the floor, and my internal dialogue screamed, "TAKE MY MONEY!" The icing on top... two super cool dudes that were happy to assist and they have a store pet fish, Salmon Roe (I also hope I got that right). Forget those big named stores for your fishing supplies and support local! You won't regret it!
