After a brutal day of work (BOOOOOOOO!!) I decided to treat myself to some retail therapy (YAAAAAASSSS!!). And, I'm so glad I did! I certainly left with my hands full and a smile on my face. Newly exposed to shore crabbing, I couldn't wait to get some crabbing gear. I wanted to shop n support local so I gave North Bay Fishing Tackle a visit. I was kindly greeted as soon as I walked in and was asked if there was anything I needed help with (love that). I got straight to the point and I was guided to their combo rod n reel for crabbing. Not only was it a combo rod n real, but it also included a crab snare and fishing line for a really, really reasonable price. I can't forget to mention that the line was already spooled on the reel. Internally, my jaw dropped to the floor, and my internal dialogue screamed, "TAKE MY MONEY!" The icing on top... two super cool dudes that were happy to assist and they have a store pet fish, Salmon Roe (I also hope I got that right). Forget those big named stores for your fishing supplies and support local! You won't regret it!

So maybe I have to come to terms with the fact that I am bad at fishing. Anyways I thought we could stack the deck and come here. It was a beautiful day and the lady at the store seemed welcoming and helpful. The facilities are nice and seemed clean. You could enjoy the picnic tables and make a day of it with older kids. We fished from 10:00 (opening) until 12:15 when my kids lost all patience. We tried a few different spinners. Then we bought worms per her recommendation, then even bought powerbait. Anyways we couldn't catch anything. She said they had just stocked the pond this morning. You could even see the fish jumping which made it more frustrating. I will say though in the two hours we were there, maybe 15 poles were in the water. During that time frame not a single person hooked a fish. So, hopefully it's not just my problem. I felt bad for the guy next to me. He had his grandson with him and he had driven 3 hours to try to manufacture a good fishing experience for the little guy. So, if you have similar ideas, please be warned there is no guarantee here. It's $10 per person to enter. We had our own poles. The worms were $8 and the powerbait was $7.50. From what I could gather, catching a fish is around $20.

My son was absolutely thrilled--he managed to catch another beautiful golden trout, just like last time! The excitement on his face was priceless, but what made it even more special was the little surprise that followed. After his catch, they handed him another coupon for a free entrance on our next visit, which made him even more eager to come back again. There's something about this place that makes family bonding feel so natural and meaningful. From the calm surroundings to the shared excitement of fishing, it creates moments that really stay with you. Watching my son enjoy every second, celebrating his catch, and already looking forward to the next trip--it just makes the whole experience even more worthwhile. Fish Rock Beach is in front of the Anchor Bay Campground in the community of Anchor Bay just north…read moreof Gualala, California. Wander around the rocks to other little pockets along the beach. The cove is popular for scuba diving, fishing, abalone diving, sea kayaking, and whale watching. Swimming is usually safe here as rip currents are rare, but the water is always cold. Anchor Bay is in an area called the "Banana Belt" which stays clearer than the surrounding Mendocino and Sonoma coastline that gets more fog and rain. Winter storms can strip the beach of its sand turning the beach into a rocky shore, but the sand gets pushed back into place naturally every year.

The captain of the boat is very fun, extremely good, and very experienced. The boat is pretty big and it can hold a maximum capacity of 40+ people. We have only 20s people on the boat. We have a lot of free area on the deck. The captain knows the area very well and he is steering the boat and stop right at the spots where he knows there is a lot of fishes. We all have our limits before noontime. The boat stopped several times on the way back to the pier to pick up the crab cages we dropped off earlier and wow! All the cages were filled with crabs. We are so happy to have our limited of the crabs too. I loved the results. We had the best seafood dinner experience at the evening! Lol!

A+ experience from our 9/1/19 outing on The New Sea Angler!!! This was our first time boat fishing…read moreon the West Coast (and our second time ever), so we're still beginners. Despite our novice capabilities, we left the boat with a massive haul of a beautiful Chinook (King) salmon, a hefty ling cod, and our two-person limit of 20 assorted rockfish, including red vermilion. Needless to say, we were thrilled with this trip and it was made possible by the seafaring knowledge of Captain Rick and the invaluable support from his expert, hard-working crew. Kevin, Logan, and Dana all helped us throughout the entire day. Special shout-out to Kevin, an all around great guy, who shared helpful information and tips with us for each type of fish we were going for during the trip. Kevin also made sure our gear/bait was set up correctly, gave us excellent advice on techniques for catching each type of fish, and patiently answered the hundreds of questions we threw his way. The whole crew was superb and we truly appreciated everyone's help but, honestly, Kevin made the trip for us -- thank you!!! We were also impressed with how well Captain Rick navigated us to various hot spots during the combo rock fish/ling cod/salmon trip -- the fish were biting at each location. It was certainly a productive trip and everyone on the boat left with a good amount of fish to take home. One other highlight from the salmon fishing part -- the whales were out and breaching so we ended up with some good whale watching too. What a bonus on top of great fishing! A few practical things: cash only (best to bring more than you need), wear layers as it gets chilly on the water, rubber/waterproof shoes help, Dramamine especially if you're prone to seasickness, and a small cooler with drinks/snacks/food as you might be on the water for 8-10 hours. We had a great first outing with Bodega Bay Sportfishing Center and look forward to another trip!

Cooper initially said the rentals were closed, but opened it up for us so we could explore the bay. He gave us some tips about where to see the best wildlife and told us to keep an eye out for rays since it's there breeding season. We ended up seeing SO MANY rays, they were even swimming under the boat. We sat and enjoyed the sound of waves lapping against the shore, the wind ruffling through the trees and rays splashing all around us. We ended up getting swept up by the experience for too long and my watch died, so we retuned the kayak late, but Cooper was really understanding. Next time I need to rent a kayak, I'll be coming back here. You should too.
