Visited with my dogs for the first time on Memorial Day. The beach is beautiful. We had checked out the off leash beach at Bodega Bay first (don't waste your time- it's just the boat ramp area. Very small beach & not a picturesque POV of the Bay). Drove down through beautiful farms & ranches & the last stop was Kehoe around 6 pm. So we practically had the beach to ourselves. Really nice beach. Lost 1 star due to the fact the path you have to take from the staging area to the beach, was overgrown with painful Thistle! Like jungle overgrown! Not fun having to get through it twice. If there is a different access to Kehoe- would love to know about it. Did enjoy the small wildlife along the path though. Beautiful beach!

dangerous surf. surfing wading and swimming not advised. shark area, strong undertows, currents and sneaker waves. enter at your own risk.

its not recommended to swim, wade or surf here due to shark warning and strong undertow but it's so beautiful! it was pretty chilly and windy, the sand is so warm though! i appreciate that it's half dog friendly and the other half is dogs off limits. the bathroom is a trek away from the beach at the beginning of the little trail. i was able to see an otter swimming by the shore.

Great dog-friendly beach in Point Reyes! The trail is short and full of lupines and queen anne's lace - with a protected marshy area to the left with bunnies. There are cows up and to the right, and beautiful cliffs at the beach. Don't worry, there is plenty of sand and surf for everyone to have an expansive patch of beach to themselves and their four-legged best friends. We like to come back here for the serenity - and the sand is soft, clean and beautiful! Just don't go into the water - it's cold and dangerous!

The drive alone should compel you to come to kehoe beach. It is one of Marin's hidden treasures. The water is freezing cold, but that's not much different than any other beach in the bay area. It's not crowded so you can lay out and it's not windy so you don't need to worry about getting sand all in your eyes. There are Clover Stornetta cows on the cliff that look suicidal that make the whole experience even more surreal. It's about an hour from SF but the windy drive is worth it. How to get there: http://www.bahiker.com/northbayhikes/kehoe.html

great beach to bring our dogs!! One of our dogs struggles with reactivity and is not good with off leash dogs approaching but every person was so respectful at this beach!! any off leash dogs just kept to their owners and I did not see any of them rush dogs they did not know. The hike up is a little narrow but people were so considerate and if they had dogs, some would move theirs aside and let others pass. The is the most respectful dog friendly (reactive dogs included) beach I have been in the bay area extended area. Both our pups had a great, stress free time and it was great to see owners of dogs who might need some extra space being great advocates for their dogs. We saw a ton of dog parents actively training their dogs which is always nice to see! Great dog friendly beach :)

Best place to bring your dog! Today marked my 5th visit to this somewhat quiet beach nestled in the back roads of Point Reyes. The drive here - cute places to stop and eat! Traffic ... well, there is none which makes the drive one to relish in the scenery. Watch out for the cyclists! There is a quick walk to the beach, great place to watch the birds although I'm not a bird watcher, but they are cute and lots of them! The right-side of the beach are for the dogs. So far I have not come across one person who has not been friendly or welcomed my baby. The other dog owners (and their dogs) have been so pleasant. Those that are off leash, it's a great sight to watch the dogs embrace the freedom. It's well kept up, little trash although I do wish dog owners would be better at picking up the poop! So watch your step on the trail to the beach. Trash cans would be great here!

Super empty and beautiful beach in Point Reyes! I have never seen a beach so empty in California before. Dogs are allowed (on leash) but honestly there's barely anyone here I don't know who would know.. -- PARKING -- Plenty on the side of the road right by the entrance of Kehoe Beach. -- DIRECTIONS -- The walk/hike to Kehoe beach is 0.6 miles ~ 10 minutes. You go through all this beautiful grassland and then hit the beach right after :). There's no signal really around this area so make sure you plan out things ahead!

It's hard for me to write about anything in Point Reyes National Seashore because I hate to bring more attention to my favorite place on earth but, sometimes it just seems like the right thing to do. This area is magical, it moves you and you always want to return. One of my favorite stops is Kehoe beach. Aside from the stunning beauty, the reason for this is that the beach is dog friendly (there aren't many in Pt. Reyes) and the hike is quick. It's a bit of a drive out there but, the time passes quickly due to the amazing scenery. Be prepared to see plenty of cattle and dairy cows along the way! Might I suggest playing a little "hey cow!"? The beach can be super windy so, dress in layers because you're on the Pacific ocean and never know what to expect.

    Molly loved this Beach!

A Bay-Area beach that allows dogs! I really enjoyed this beach and the people using it. The Trail to the beach is a very easy walk through some amazing wildflowers. The Street parking is the only tough thing about this beach. Parking can be hard to come by especially on a weekend. This beach offers a lot of space and is a nice beach for a long stroll. I went on a Saturday in April..it wasn't crowded at all. It's almost always windy here and I would recommend taking a light jacket. I look forward to visiting again and again.

Happy dog taking in the sights at Kehoe Beach

What a happy discovery! I spent 2 days at the Cottages at Pt Reyes with my dog and found Kehoe Beach while out for a drive. Roadside parking and a half mile walk to get to the beach. Dogs on leash only, but I went on a Thursday and had the whole beach to myself (seriously-not a person in sight). I didn't let my dog go in the surf, thanks to the posted warnings of rough surf, sharks and obvious rip currents. But the walk was beautiful and the sun was warm enough to enjoy laying out for a bit. I will definitely be back! Great beach for nature photos too!

Prepare first. Leave early. Have patience. 9am fog burns off. By far a journey in one day or less. Earlier the better. Limited parking. Fantastic wildlife. Out of the urban splash. Water warmer than the air. Sometimes windy. Always epic. Remember that. Head out. Hunker down. Gear up. Do whatever. Just get moving.

After finishing our morning hike at Tomales Bay Trailhead, we did a quick Google search and found that The Marshall Store was the nearest restaurant. What also appealed to us is that in addition to serving oysters, The Marshall Store offered heartier fare such as soups and sandwiches. We drove straight from the trailhead and arrived just after opening (~11:30 AM). There was a short line out the door, but it moved quickly, and we were able to place our orders in about 20 minutes. After ordering, we found a table in the covered patio outdoors, which is squeezed between the Bay and a two-lane road. Our food came out quickly, starting with two types of oysters - fresh and BBQ - as well as clam chowder, ceviche tostada, chorizo fish stew, shrimp po'boy, and trout salad. The fresh oysters were briny and tasted fresh-from-the-ocean, and the BBQ oysters (my favorite) were served warm with a unique smokiness that was enhanced by a savory red sauce. I split the shrimp po'boy and chorizo fish stew with my friend, and together, this was a substantial meal. The shrimp po'boy, one of the best I've ever tasted, consisted of fresh jalapeño cheese bread stuffed with jumbo, juicy shrimp and lots of crisp veggies. The chorizo fish stew was hearty and flavorful, although it cooled off quickly and was lukewarm by the time it was served. The meal overall was on the pricier side given the casual vibes of eating roadside, but all of the seafood was incredibly fresh, and portions were generous. Plus, it's nearly impossible to re-create the roadside/bayside dining experience anywhere other than Tomales Bay.

Let's face it, if a customer is sitting in an uncomfortable position, the meal is already ruined before it began. The table we were at was also saturated with the stains and liquids of those that came before us that day. I would say a quick fix would be using tablecloths that can be replaced or washed. Doesn't have to be fancy. Food was overpriced in our opinion. Just shy of $100 for 24 oysters. This is near where the oysters are brought out of the water. There's no transportation costs, no advertising, no long term storage costs. The harvesting equipment/facility is literally 20 plus feet away from you. The oysters should actually be cheaper at this restaurant than anywhere else. Food was good except for the bread. The service needs improvement. Not enough service given to justify a decent tip. I get the feeling the business in general seems to not invest back into itself enough. Pricing and crowd seems to make one think they have a good amount of cash inflow, but they don't seem to reinvest in decent seating, shade, chairs, tablecloths, clean silverware. One large group came prepared apparently having been there before. They brought their own tablecloth. That tells you something important right there. They had an expectation of something. Mandatory extra "Wellness 5%" charge is added to the bill. That impacts the tip. The service my group received honestly was lacking attention to the degree I didn't even feel a tip was justified let alone the mandatory 5% wellness charge. A tip was left, but not earned. I honestly don't know their costs but it seems if I can buy a similar product cheaper away from the source. A product that had to endure shipping costs, advertising costs, storage/refrigeration costs to make it to me???? What I saw was a product that seems good, but double the cost of what I've purchased locally and has endured non of the other costs, then another 5% charge. I'm ok paying for quality but this seemed to feel like getting raked over the coals and having the entire experience ruined at the same time.

The restaurant's menu pivots on the tides--oysters shucked to order, clams plucked from the same waters, and pastas that arrive as both comfort and celebration. On a recent visit, the food was excellent, with the singular misstep of the clam chowder that did little to dampen an otherwise great meal. Tony's oysters, served on the half shell with a squeeze of lemon and a brisk walk along the water, are the star of the operation. The meat is briny but clean, with a crisp sweetness that speaks to careful stewardship of the bay. Whether eaten straight or with a whisper of mignonette, they possess the sort of effortless elegance that makes you forget you're in a casual, no‑frills dining room. The clams and bucatini, another menu highlight, combine plump, well‑cooked shellfish with stubby, toothsome strands of pasta in a light, shell‑infused broth that feels more like a seaside celebration than a gut‑bomb of cream and butter. The dish is both comforting and refined, letting the iodine‑tinged sweetness of the clams take center stage. The clam chowder, a house signature, arrives with plenty of fresh Manila clams and a dedicated gluten‑free preparation, but its texture--was thin without the clam brine seeping through. Tony's charms stem as much from its setting as its plate: a low‑slung structure by the water, speckled with live music on Sundays and the kind of easygoing service that suits a place where people come to linger. For all its modesty, the restaurant delivers something that feels like a small revelation: seafood that tastes like the bay that produced it, ideal for a day trip from the Bay Area where the drive is half the pleasure and the oyster another.

We weren't especially hungry, so we opted for a selection of sides, plus my friend is a fan of mussels, so we tried their weekly special. While seafood isn't my usual preference, the broth was delicious with a warm heat to it. Next up were the Mushroom à La Grecque, which I found on the sides menu. Simple, but tasty. The Grilled Asparagus could've learned something from the simplicity of the mushroom dish. It's trying to do so much. The crumbled hard-boiled egg and the marcona almonds, which lost most of their crunch. The gremolata wasn't noticeable and the seasonings weren't a garnish as much as a layer atop the vegetables. I ordered asparagus because I actually enjoy it and it was smothered. On the other hand, I love Strauss Dairy's everything. Nick's Cove offers a lavender or blue corn cone for their soft-serve ice cream and a number of other delicious options to get your ice cream on after your main course. I tried Cousin Maine lobster at the SOCO Market in Santa Rosa. Ordered the Connecticut roll (served…read morewarm and drizzled with butter). I usually order the Maine roll but wanted something different. For $26 the roll is itty bitty. It was delicious, tasted fresh, but wish there was a bit more to satisfy my lobster craving! Be prepared for long wait after you order. Waited about 15 mins. Also names were not called in order! It's worth a stop though if they're coming to your town!

Horrible experience here. I came hoping for some good lobster, but the customer service completely…read moreruined it. When I got to the counter, the woman working was rude from the start. The woman with big eyes that kind of drift apart. I asked, "Can I get the lobster tail?" She replied, "Yeah, are the tots fine with that?" I have dietary restrictions, so I asked if there were any other side options. She immediately said, "We don't have anything else." I asked, "Oh, there's nothing besides tots?" At that point, she looked over at the other employee and rolled her eyes. He jumped in and said, "Yeah, there's nothing else for sides." It was just really awkward and made me feel like I was inconveniencing them by asking a simple question. When my food came out, I was honestly shocked. My plate was covered in tater tots even though I had specifically said I didn't want them, so they just went straight in the trash. On top of that, the lobster tail was comically small compared to what I've received here in the past. When she set my food down, she said, "Enjoy," and then snickered as she walked away. The whole interaction left me feeling embarrassed and unwelcome. There was also trash on all of the tables. We had to clean it off ourselves. I won't be coming back after this experience.
