Meaghan was awesome! Sold us a skimboard, then went the extra mile (or 4!). We were asking about Aloe Vera for our sunburned daughter, and Meaghan went home and cut some of her own stash and brought it to where we were having dinner! I would recommend this shop for Kayak rental if you are camping near Sonoma Coast State Beach (i stayed at the bodega dunes campground). It is a short drive from the campground and the staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. The staff gave great recommendations for Kayaking area and d were easy to work with. Bob not only gave us great kayaking area ideas but also gave us kayaking tips. Great options of bay camping or creek camping. I also think their prices are very reasonable. read more

Review is for Saturday, 9/28, 10a reservation for tandem kayaking: Was a beautiful day for me and my man for kayaking Bodega Bay! If you never experienced kayaking, this is a good place to start - safe bay to practice paddling, wildlife (at least for the day we went) was active. Saw seals, fish, crab, various water fowl. Best of all - minimal boat traffic! It was a 4-hour rental we had and it was worth it! Remember to bring: -sunscreen -hat -water -snack or pack a light lunch -make sure seat straps isn't broken before paddling off -listen to the owner, Bob, who knows where to kayak -don't get stuck in the shallow parts of the bay - we had 10a reservations, but didn't get down to meet Bob because the earlier paddlers were delayed. For those in a hurry, be mindful your 10a launch can start at 10:30a. But they won't charge or take the extra delayed time out of your paddle time. Happy paddling! read more

This is hard to say, after several attempted phone calls, text messages, I finally got ahold of the instructor for a session. The instructors are great and knowledgeable, they provided a fun and positive environment for learning to surf and affordable rates. However they need to hire new personnel. Phone calls were missed during office hours and never returned. And then when i did show up on time to session the office worker had locked himself out of the shop and appeared high. They need to hire better personnel read more

I've kayaked a fair bit and wanted to spend a 1/2 day kayaking in Bodega Bay as part of a overnight trip to the area. I emailed to make a reservation (since there's an email contact on the site) but was told to call the shop. I did, left a message, got no response. Kept trying for a few days until someone finally picked up and I confirmed my plans. When I arrived at the shop, I was told that it was too windy to be in the bay so I'd need to drive to Salmon Creek and someone would meet me there with the equipment. Weather was overcast and foggy (which burned off an hour later) and I personally didn't see a reason not to be in the bay. Salmon Creek was "ok" but I completed the entire thing in under 2 hours and had nothing else to do for the rest of my 4 hour rental, so I just returned everything and left. A bit disappointing because I really did want to kayak in the bay and I did pay for 4 hours! The creek is fine for really inexperienced people or young families, etc. On the plus side, both employees that I interacted with (the girl at the shop and the guy who brought the kayak out) were very friendly but I was disappointed with the overall experience. read more

We had four people in our group all first timers and none of us fell into the water! Highly recommended for people interested in trying SUP. Rental comes with wet suit and booties. I got a 4 hour kayaking deal for this business. I went a few weeks ago with my son, it was our first time kayaking. Bob took us out to the water and showed us on shore what we needed to do in the water. Bob was a great instructor and very friendly. We had a blast out on the bay and going to other parts of the shoreline to see crabs. there was a seal that liked watching us as much as we like whatching him. I will definiltly be going back this summer. This store is #1 in customer service. read more

I've surfed NY, NJ, WA, OR, CA, Ecuador and the Dominican Republic. Always renting boards and asking advice. Bodega Bay Surf Shak is the worst surf shop I've ever encountered. The young man working on my first day gave me bad advice on when to hit the water. The young lady the next day was too busy talking with friends and eating, both times I came in, to give any assistance. To make it worse, they have no fiberglass or epoxy longboards to rent. read more

I don't like this surf shop quite as well as Northern Lights, but it is closer to the beach, so there's no need to backtrack all the way to Bodega if you're in a pinch. A nice smattering of surf and skatewear and a decent selection of boards and wetsuits. The people who work here were total surfer types. They really seemed to know their stuff and practice what they preach. We rented a tandem kayak for 4 hours over the weekend. We'd envisioned heading out into the bay but the wind was picking up so they recommended we head up Salmon Creek instead. It was an absolute blast! We had to pay at the Surf Shop then drive a little ways away to the creek entrance where our kayak was waiting for us. We got some simple instructions and away we went. It was really neat to get to see the bay then head up into the canyon. It was very peaceful and quiet. This was definitely one of the most relaxing parts of our trip. Afterwards we left the kayak on the bank & returned the oars. Super easy! read more

We walked into the surf shop to look for sunscreen and ended up talking to Bob about the area and what's cool to see! He was so nice and informative! Shortly after we left we decided to schedule a kayak adventure with him. What an amazing time! He dropped us off at the bay and we kayaked around for a number of hours. It's a small place with a fairly big selection. A little hard to find unless you are looking when you round the bend in Bodega Bay but worth checking out. Bought my Harbour board there years ago - love at first sight. They have good taste in boards, or at least taste that coincides with mine. read more

We reserved kayaks to go out on Bodega Bay. Showed up and they had us follow the guy to some launch point where there was no parking. He told us to go park up the road, which we found out later was illegal. The launch was not for Bodega Bay for but for Salmon Creek which is pretty mediocre and short, and for a small puddle lake behind the dunes. But we were stuck. Two of the paddles were close to falling apart. When we returned gear I asked why we were taken there instead of Bodega Bay and were told it was because of the wind. The wind, in fact, was in single digits and the bay completely calm. That in fact had been the forecast. I suggest if you go you make it clear what you want and check your gear before it's loaded on the truck. read more

Great place! We rented two paddleboards and a kayak from the Surf Shack while on a family vacation in Bodega Bay. Their prices are very reasonable and include all of the gear you need and a little orientation to the good places to paddle around the bay (it's sheltered from the ocean, so the water conditions are more like a lake). We had an incredible day and were able to see harbor seals, pelicans, cormorants and tons of manta rays; like an aquarium right under our boats! We paddled for about four hours and loved it; the Surf Shack staff were very helpful and efficient, and this was one of the highlights of our vacation! read more

This place was great, Miles was an excellent surf instructor for myself and my girlfriend our first time out. He did a fantastic job and we were up and surfing at an excellent beginner beach in no time. Seriously was one of the most fun things I"ve done in the bay area.
