My husband and I did the Salmon Creek ride. I rode Piper ( the princess ) and my husband the draft horse. What a beautiful ride, excellent horses ( they are loved ) and a great guide. I will Def return!

Guinness the horse loved his snacks after the fun ride!

T was a great guide, we were a bit nervous and she made us feel right at home! The trail views were absolutely stunning! I am not sure the experience would have been as fun without her as a guide, she deserves many kudos! Thanks T!

To say I had an experience here would be selling it short. I lived in Santa Rosa for about 6 years and moved around 2021. Every day I had off, I would venture to the Sonoma Coast. Along my route, I have seen this Ranch, always told myself I would go and not getting around to it. Knew exactly what it was. The horses and land always looked great. The horses are well fed and have a wonderful sheen to them in the right sunlight. The land, always picturesque in any weather. This still holds up today. My ride was the day before this entry. My guide was Romero, who is as charismatic as he is passionate about what he does and it shows. I had the distinct honor in quickly getting to know him as some others in the group bailed. So I had a 1:1 ride. I was an amateur rider. It's been 10 years since I last rode and telling him this, I learned a few new things along our ride. He even did some impressive acrobatics on his horse! Below are some captured moments from yesterday. 5 stars does not cut it for this place.

My son and I did the beach ride with our guides Pinky and Joe and had the best time!!! I rode Piper and my son rode Duke. Absolutely loved every minute and will definitely be back. Thanks again Pinky and Joe and of course Piper and Duke!!

The instructor Romero was great with our toddler. We showed up without an appointment and he gave her a great ride while we walked along side. We took a short trail down to an ocean view, and he was very patient and knowledgeable.

As an avid traveller, I always take a trail ride when visiting a destination. Bodega Bay isn't a place normally associated with horses, so I was pleased to find Chanslor Ranch. My wonderful ride was wrangled by Taylor and I couldn't have had a better ride on Dr. Pepper. In fact, I don' know that I've ever enjoyed myself more. It was a cool morning in and around the Miwok trails and we saw waterfowl, rabbits and deer as our horses took us the gentle sloping hills that overlooking the Pacific Ocean. I am so thankful to Taylor for pacing the ride perfectly. The horses are so well cared for and the ranch is beautiful. I recommend to my fellow equine lovers making a trail ride on this this ranch a must if visiting Bodega Bay, then heading down the road a few miles to Fishetarian for grilled oysters and some chowder.

The park backs up to some private residences along the bay road. So it was not exactly rustic and peaceful, but it was still a nice place to hang out for a few days. As long as you can tune out the foghorn, you'll be okay. If that kind of thing bothers you (it would have driven me crazy in my younger years), then you best be as far from the bay as you can get. The foghorn sounds every 10 seconds, fog or no fog, 24/7. Most of the campsites have plenty of room, but some are better and more spacious than others. You can hike the dune trail from the campground (no dogs allowed, but watch for horses). We drove to the parking lot at the beach area, and walked down to the beach. It seemed nice, but it was windy and a bit rainy, so I didn't spend much time checking it out. Besides, I'm more interested in dog-friendly beaches. I'm sure that the campground has a totally different feel during the summer months, but in March, there was not much activity. We were one of the few campers in our campground loop, so very low key. Bathrooms and showers were clean. Tokens are needed for the shower. The token machine accepts dollar bills. Special Notes: No dogs allowed on the trails or on the beach. Motorhomes are limited to 31 feet. There is an RV water filling and dump station. As for the dune trails, I thought I could hike to the beach from the campground. But I hiked the trail to the road, crossed the road, and then the trail branched off onto several different pathways, all which ended abruptly. So I don't recommend it, at least not in March. May be a bit different in summer. Overall, this state park is a decent home base for exploring Bodega Bay and the Sonoma Coast.

That's just silly. 'Murica!!! But people do that and I'm not concerned with it. It's location, location, location here. Really, it's a short drive from the bay, or even from the greater Sacramento area so sure, bring it all! Leave the oppressive heat and wear pants for a change. Bring shoes and maybe take a hike...leave the extra car at home. Maybe bring some food items with you. The stores are expensive and have great seafood but they aren't meant to supply for longer stays.

The Owner, a person I would NEVER want to be be associated with. A real piece of work. Observed many times over the years shares entitled rude behavior with that of a tycoon. Two years ago, I'll never forget, this guy was complaining to ANY Customer who would listen about how he does so much to keep this place open and that people that complain about anything and everything are so ungrateful. It was really really colorful and downright disgusting. Excuse me? The people that PAY YOUR TAXES are ungrateful that you don't upgrade the sites they pay extreme amounts for? That you don't offer any amenities such as a shower or even that thing called...electricity? That you cater towards camping trailers with no water hookups? Mmmm, ok guy. Breathe. You do not provide toilets. Let alone ADA compliant areas for the toilets. You provide nasty ports potty that aren't even level on the ground. How is anyone supposed to wheelchair into the porta potty? They shake when you are in them. And they are disgusting. Your workers? blast them with a sudo washer and don't even take out the seat covers OR the toilet paper....and miss all the grossness. And then leave the residual water/product....that's just nasty. You blast gross stuff off the floor ONTO the toilet paper and seat covers because of laziness. I mean seriously....it's barely 50 outside and now I have to sit on a nasty went porta potty because your are too lazy to upgrade, let alone move paper until you are done? Penny pinch much? And what a concept of adding a smelly paper tree to remove some nasty stink. The photos are of the "handicap" porta potty. The others were gross, too. If not worse. These were after a "clean" too! You also do not provide electricity or anything that resembles comfort here. The grounds are totally unlevel on the camp sites. So, you won't be seeing many disabled folks here. OOOOO, all the dumpsters were FULL. Everywhere. It was a Wednesday. Majority of the camp sites are behind dunes. Unless you go to the seawall area, with no running water there either. Nothing to see but your neighbors getting drunk and dogs wandering everywhere. Fun. Never saw a "camp ranger" once. You have so many sites crammed next to one another so you can benefit off making money. 60$ for a pair of sweats? What? Like, woah guy. Ego much? Ohhhh, let's talk about the campers! Zero enforcement. Parking in other peoples spots and parking IN the roadways. Legit blocking people. And then have rude persons get defensive because they got asked politely to move their illegally parked vehicles from your purchased spot. So like, no, this place is not great. You get belligerent people and their visitors.....mmmmm, fun. This place is not worth it. Overcrowded, too. This isn'y Yosemite, and if it were, it would at least offer real amenities. This place does not.

It is near the Russian River just outside of Guerneville. Redwood vibes similar to some parts of the Santa Cruz range or Marin Hills, but nothing that compares to the big redwoods in Northern California like near Humbolt Co or Crescent City, those are next level. There's a fee to park inside the park. Think it was about $10. It gets busy during the weekends and spaces can be super limited if you come after 11am. We were with a toddler, so we stayed on the main flat trails that go through redwood groves. It is very shady and well trafficked trails. There are a few loops you can join together, and the circumference may be a 2-3 mile hike. But you can do however long you want it to be. Now the trails that elevate into the hills are much more involved. It can elevate to a 1300 foot gain which is pretty strenuous. I haven't tried those yet but it is on my list to try. But even the easy trails that one day, was still beautiful and relaxing. To majestic red bark trees with healthy ferns all on the ground cover, fallen trees to climb on, large rocks to hop on was just a nice jaunt especially with young kids. We brought a light lunch and refreshments and were able to run into a small area with picnic benches. Perfect way to end a few hours steeped in nature, without having to be totally in the wild. Great intro for those that aren't too versed (yet) and to get them exposed to nature, ecosystems and wildlife. Connect with the world amongst which you live with but rarely see. Weekend mission accomplished!
