i NEVER thought in a million years that I would find myself shopping at a DARK place like Hot Topic... But apparently, my taste in music, for the goth culture and more often than not; finding myself wearing ALL BLACK has definitely evolved over the years. Let me explain! As a teen, my go to music was always 90's/2000's rap and hip hop. You know.... Tupac, Biggie, Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, Ice Cube and of course Eminem! I was real gangsta back then...Haha As I made my through high school, I switched gears a little as bands like... Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, Korn, System of a Down, Blink 182 whom had either recently debuted or which had suddenly caught my interest.... I remember everyday wearing a red cap backwards just like my boy Fred Durst... I thought I was so cool... Ha! Suddenly I was in College and I found myself going to concerts for bands like Panic! At the Disco, Cobra Starship, Fallout Boy.... Ahhh, Those were the good ol' days!!! In Present Day, I still love those artists, those bands mentioned above, but nowadays, I even have a new appreciation for both the classics (Classic Rock) and even this new Age stuff. In the last few months I've gotten into collecting Vinyls and if I keep buying them like I am, I'm gonna go broke... But I LOVE IT!! =) Most recently, my wife who is OBSESSED with this newer band I'm about to drop, has also had me jumping on the bandwagon with her.... Literally! I'm talking about Sleep Token which can be described as a genre of Progressive/Alternative Metal mixed with Post Rock & Indie Pop. At first I wasn't convinced, but here I am... Playing it on my own without my wife around... Please don't tell her, otherwise it will be another "W" in her column ;) So why do I mention all of this?? Because of my wife's obsession and my sudden fandom in Sleep Token, I have been into Hot Topic more times than I can count lately to look for S.T. Merch., get my wife the latest and greatest S.T. Band T's and look for attire to wear to the concert we went to this past October at the Crypto.com Arena in DTLA. Not gonna lie..... It. Was. EPIC. Of course.... You KNOW we were in ALL BLACK... (My wife almost convinced me to wear black eyeliner)...... ALMOST lol As we were waiting outside the venue for the doors to open... We weren't the only ones in all Black!!! EVERYONE there was!!! And. It. Was. Awesome!! HOT TOPIC... You would have been Proud! (Insert Black Heart Emoji Here) ------------------------ As far as H.T. is concerned.... The Hot Topic at Westfield Topanga is small, but their selection is pretty decent. They have all of the latest band merch., T-shirts & Pop Culture of everything in the now... and of course the classics from back in the day. The staff is always friendly, helpful and assists me with whatever I'm looking for. Which of course is probably Sleep Token merch ;) So..... Have you looked up Sleep Token Yet?? Millennials - remember when going to the mall was an event like we would dress up and how fun it was to go to Hot Topic? The Topanga Mall is keeping that vibe alive and times may be different but Hot Topic still gives me the feels. I ordered a Harry Potter shirt online for pick up and it was cuuuute! I stopped by this Hot Topic location while waiting for the John Wick movie to start. I came to this store to look if they have any Hey Arnold shirts since my wife loves that TV show. When I walked in, a worker greeted me and asked if I needed any help. I just told him that I was browsing and burning time before the movie. This store has a lot of t shirts but no Hey Arnold shirts. They have decent amount of merchandise so if you're a fan of Hot Topic, you should visit this store. read more

Loved " **Men's Clothing**, Accessories, Women's Clothing" I mean... the men's selection is always limited to predominately tee's and accessories (limited)... the last pair(s) of actually jeans or pants I got in store were years ago... and come to think of it... I order those online and picked up from this location, which I prefer to the northridge store... I mostly order online... so why even bother coming in unless it is for a pickup... well you can still earn hot cash... which I did and you can also get a feel for what's what and what's in if you want to live through your past and explore the alt you. The hot topic crew is to die for and casually talked me into spending $30 more than I planned... so venture in (second floor) tons of deals right now... if they had more male garments I'd probably come back more than a three to four times a year. read more

Unlike the Northridge location, this store is a bit more spacious (still crowded though) with great customer service. Like all Hot Topic stores, they sell Funko Pop figures. Unfortunately the ones I want sell out quickly. One of their employees helped me find one of my favorite characters from their overwhelming stack and gave me useful information on how to find out what's in their stores through social media. It's also great to geek out with a fellow Star Wars fan. Other than Funko Pop, they have lots of anime and pop culture merchandise, from t-shirts to keychains or cosplay items. I'm glad this store has something to satisfy the many fandoms people have, as well as being serviced by those who are genuinely friendly and interested the shows/movies their products are based on. read more

Not the Hot Topic of my youth, this one had top-notch service from the employees working the Christmas rush. I have to commend them because they were very professional and were ready to answer questions and help us find things for my daughter's schoolmates. It's tough to find Christmas gifts for teenage girls, especially when you have a teenage girl selecting them. It was nice to see her getting the assistance in finding what she needed. Yesterday, there was a robbery at Topanga Plaza, and initially they thought there was an active shooter. My daughter and her friend were at Hot Topic at the time. The Hot Topic staff was just incredible. They ushered them into the bathroom in the storage area. They were in a secure locked space, and they kept in contact with them the entire time -- giving them updates through written notes under the door. They also were unbelievably calm and tremendously kind. We are beyond grateful to the manager who was truly compassionate and helpful - and to all the workers at Hot Topic who got my daughter and her friend through the entire ordeal. My daughter actually said that she was so glad that she was at Hot Topic at the time because they knew just what to do ... and we're so, so nice. We can't thank you enough, and we'll never forget how generous and heartfelt all of you were under tremendous pressure. Thank you!! read more

Horrible Customer Service! I tried to return a T-Shirt with a receipt and the store associate said she cannot process the return because I didn't have the coupon that they issued to me after my purchase! I explained to her that I was not informed I would need that coupon to do a return! She continued that she cannot help me with my return. I left the store and went to another location who processed my return. The Topanga Store needs to train the associates on customer service! read more

Very bad service the two women who were attending did not have customer service. They were talking about personal things and did not pay attention to all the people inside the store. This place is always a mess. And the customer service is ridiculous. There were a bunch of the same product on clearance but not marked with a sale price. I asked a woman at the counter if it was on sale and she said yes, but she didn't know the price. I waited until she was done with her transaction and asked her if she could scan it and tell me the price. She said no, we had to wait in the 15 person deep line just to find out the price. Ridiculous way to try to treat a customer and potential sale. Needless to say we walked out. read more

If I could give this hot topic zero stars, I would. I purchased a pack of nose rings which had a jewel missing which I found out after I opened it. When I went back to get a refund the blonde woman (I think the manager) told me that I couldn't get a refund and that I could only exchange it for something of equal value and so I did. I really just wanted my money back at that point. I ended up going to a different hot topic and they gave me a full refund though Lmaoo I just don't understand why this hot topic couldn't do that. read more

I ordered a product and waited for 2 weeks. It was shipped into the store damaged. I asked to have it replaced and all they can say was sorry and refer me to another store further away from where I live. They said to call customer service so they can replace it. The manager also said they cannot do anything because it didn't come from the store. I ordered my product from the store and was delivered to the same place. They are not willing to try to compensate the customer. Instead be pawned to another place than them try to fix the issue. When you come into Hot Topic stores, better be prepared to be dissatisfied with the quality of the product. Especially they do not check quality. read more

Love this Hot Topic! The employees here are always so nice and so helpful! They always offer help, but not overbearingly, and always make good conversation! Definitely some of the best customer service I've seen, I love coming to this Hot Topic, not only for the products and good deals, but also for the positivity these employees give off. Anytime I walk into this Hot Topic location, it's always a very unpleasant experience and very unwelcoming environment. However, because I'm an avid collector of "knick knacks " I always find myself walking in. Todays experience was one for the books. I was super excited to see that the store carried Hunter x Hunter anime blind bag keychains. I decided to grab the first two bags and test my luck and so I proceeded to walk towards the back of the store because that's where my sister was at. An employee named Payton rudely shouted across the store "excuse me you aren't allowed to take small items behind the store " . First of all, I'm shopping. Second of all, post up a sign stating such "rule". There was no need to humiliate me in front of the entire store. I have no need to steal. I could afford the whole box of these keychains and purchase them if I wanted too. This encounter and experience ruined my whole day. This employee was out to get me as a person of color and should definitely be re evaluated as an employee. read more

Pros: Hot Topic has some cool shit. The staff here are lovely- helpful and attentive. their sales are great. Cons: this store is very small. There are always loads of big sizes in clothing but it's very hard to find the small sizes in stock so I usually have to buy online :/ Sadly Hot Topic seems to be becoming the goth version of Torrid (ya i know theyre the same company). Used to like this Hot Topic. They usually have the nicest employees and the manager Chris is usually so pleasant. That was not the case tonight at all. He had such an attitude with me because I was told that all shirts were on sale when they weren't. An employee told me they were and he said well you can read the fine print it's all on the sign. Well that's why I asked someone that worked there, so I get correctly informed and don't have to read the fine print. We spend hundreds and hundreds of dollars there and he had the audacity to kick out my three nieces and nephew because they were "blocking his aisle" when they were about to close in 10 mins and we were the only ones in there. You don't own Hot Topic so don't tell my kids what to do while I'm paying the bill. Get a grip and learn how to treat loyal and kind customers. Very unorganized during funko exclusive releases. No reason to wait in line as they let people rush in when doors open making it a free for all. It's worst than Black Friday. I would suggest they plan out a careful release to let people in at orderly fashion way like all other stores out there. Seriously, people could get hurt. How great is store pick up? Not at all. No where on the HT website does it say that in store pick up could take more than twice as long as standard shipping would. Not only that but when i went to the store to find out approximately how long my stuff would take to get to their store from where it's being shipped in Tennessee, the employees passed me around from one another. When i finally got this employee to assist me he just told me to wait for it to get to the store, he turned his head to another employee then walked away. My go-to hot topic but mostly due to location. Great workers all the time who are helpful and attentive. Can't complain about them on that note. The loss of two stars is that they generally have a decent selection but Not at all what I want or it should be. I do wonder if they adhere to sales limits they are supposed to have because I often see the same few people there at the opening buying up loads of their product, especially when they are at the register while workers are opening up new boxes for them and they are buying multiples. I can only presume they are "flippers" who just sell it at a higher price themselves. This really hinders others from being able to buy these items. It sucks and I wish hot topic employees would be more aware of this problem. I know sales are sales but this sucks to see people buy up everything and screw others. It should not be allowed if hot topic cared about their customers, plain and simple. read more

So today I went in to see if they had any original star steven universe shirts in stock, and when I asked the lady at the register she said there weren't any of the star ones left and they had been "sold out for awhile". But mentioned there were other themed shirts from the show towards the back, without showing me. So I went and looked, and after making my way around I eventually came across two stacks of shirts from the show right near the check out where her and a floor person were standing. I literally found the bright red shirt first look at the bottom of the pile of black shirts that were with the show, as it was pretty easy to see standing out bright red in a pile of black shirts. So I'm not sure if I should be glad that's how they (didn't) provide customer service, because my sister went in the day before and they told her the same thing, but I got the last one! Without the lady ever checking inventory or having the floor person they were talking to actually go look. My sister told me Same situation played out the day before because I had her look when she was there. I could have turned around and walked out the minute the lady said no and they would have lost a sale right there. I would have bought a pin but didn't care to after knowing they care so little to just try. I don't go to the mall often, and the fact that the employee working yesterday had already told my sister they didn't have it, could have prevented me from even going in today.
