I've always been a fan of Hot Topic since they first started appearing in malls, so perhaps my rating doesn't seem like much of a surprise. But I want to emphasize that this Hot Topic in particular is a cut above typical. Usually one expects Hot Topic to be rather cramped with a narrow but deep format. But this one is actually wide with a large inviting entrance and a lot more space to roam around and explore the product selection. This makes the shopping experience much more comfortable and ultimately enjoyable. I usually pop in here if I'm at MoA, even if I didn't go to the mall to go here, just to see what new stuff they might've brought in. I can usually count on some cute Sonic the Hedgehog merch, and the recent Hazbin Hotel/Helluva Boss stuff has been fun too. The staff have always been friendly and happy to chat me up while ringing up my goodies. I appreciate that they now seem to have their "B1G1 30% off" deal going constantly, as it's fairly infrequent that I only want one item, haha, so this keeps me from spending too much money... sorta. They have updated the Hot Topic at MOA! The store is 2x bigger than the previous store and most other hot topic locations. I mostly shop here for Sanrio items and funko pops but they have a ton of music, anime and pop culture items in general. The staff are usually helpful. They always offer to order items if I can't find them in store. Most times I just like browsing around looking for trinkets. read more

This was our first stop on our trip. We were waiting on our friends, so figured why not check out some shops. I didn't plan on us actually buying anything, but we found some cool things we just couldn't pass up. Since it was so early in the day and we were going to the theme park, we asked if they wouldn't mind holding a couple things behind the counter for us so we didn't have to lug it around the park. The girl behind the counter was happy to help and set things aside for us. We came back on our way out, and browsed a bit more since the shirts were buy or get one 50% off and we needed one more. One of the girls working asked if I was finding everything okay and helped me find a shirt I'd seen earlier. The gentleman who checked us out was very friendly as well. This is the biggest HT I've ever seen. They had so much stuff! Lots of sizes available too. Definitely something for everyone. They had some great sales when we went too. read more

Generally when I go to Hot Topic, their aisles are all tight and a bit claustrophobic but here, the stores are huge and there's alot of room to move around. Features better variety of shirts and merchandise to choose from. Nothing really stood out special after that but at least I got some Hot Cash to use for later. read more

I know it's the holidays, so that doesn't factor into this review. It's also more about the Tweet I posted about the cluster experience I had at the cash wrap and the response from Angie, the DM. I went to Hot Topic to pick up a shirt my sister had ordered for me. In a nutshell, I was frustrated about being yelled at (instead of walking up to and told) to move to the other side of the cashwrap by an associate who was more interested in dancing and talking to other associates instead of actually working. Added to frustration was the cashier, who spent several minutes pushing the rewards program to a person who kept saying he wasn't interested, as the line grew and grew. Angie and I spent several days playing phone tag, because we both were traveling. But eventually, we did speak, and she was very understanding and apologetic. She wanted to hear about my experience, and after I relayed the story, I explained I worked retail for many years and believe all this could be resolved with additional training and coaching. Angie offered me a gift card for my troubles, and I told her it wasn't necessary. I do like many of the products at Hot Topic, but I always have to mentally prepare myself to go in there because of how absolutely cluttered it is in there. It's one of those stores like Joann Fabrics, Michael's and Whole Foods where you can't just 'pop in' for what you need. So while I'm happy Hot Topic carries Disney and Star Wars merch, I'm not always thrilled with the service. But Angie totally made up for it this time. read more

Me and my friend went to this hot topic wearing masks on our faces, over our mouths and noses. An employee pointed me out saying that my mask had to be over my nose, I'm assuming it wasn't high enough but it was at least over my nostrils. I get that maybe it was store protocol for it to be higher because of COVID, but she kept pestering me even after I moved it up higher. She made me feel really uncomfortable. Because this was the only store in the mall that said anything about my mask all the other stores didn't have a problem with how I wore mine. Honestly their are probably better hot topics I just don't recommend this one. read more

Ah, yes. Hot Topic; the subject of much ridicule both online and IRL. I gotta say, it has come around from an emo/hardcore fashion swamp. I mean, they still sell those band shirts and spikey belts but they're shoved in the back and tossed among the graphic tees and cheap lingerie. Now there are more products that are in line with my interests like cartoon merchandise and dresses. I actually ended up buying some Sailor Moon socks and a Gudetama t-shirt. There was a sale going on so the price was OK in the end. Due to said sale, the store was really crowded and it was hard to get a look at everything that I wanted to check out. After we paid, the cashier gave me a voucher for $15 off $30 that isn't valid for another 3 weeks. Although it was a nice gesture, I hate deals like that and would hesitate to even call it a coupon. But I guess that is their business model and it must be working. read more

I swear the stores hasn't changed since I was a kid: everything is painted black, the Help is all pierced and scary looking but for the most part they are retail oriented and friendly, tell you what the specials are. The store is usually pretty orderly and it's easy to figure out prices. Lots of T-shirts, jeans, candy, jewelry, trendy knickknacks of the moment. read more

I like their variety of licensed merchandise, but the cashiers are extremely pushy. I've been hassled about signing up for the store credit card relentlessly. No should mean no. I shouldn't leave the store feeling like going back would give me an anxiety attack. Ordering online has been a better experience, return policy is decent. read more

The hot topic in Mall of America. I cannot stress this enough, but generally this location has a racial problem. We shopped today and were constantly hassled about what we were buying and what we were buying. We were on a family trip and my sister wanted a shirt. That's all she wanted to buy a shirt from one of your stores. This location in particular.(Mall of america) My sister's merchandise was snatched out of her hand and it she was pushed out of the dressing room she was in. Even worse the worker I believe it was a manager, opened the door on her and showing everyone in front of her stall what she had tried on. She was made very uncomfortable the whole time she shopped there. I can't believe she was treated this way and no-one else was treated this way. At all. We were the only ones in the store who were treated this way. I would discourage others from even touching or coming into this shop just because of the way she was treated. And I'm going to do just that. Work on your customer service skills. Learn to respect the customer. read more
