Great Vintage With Incredible Retro-Style! SITREP We were looking for pizza and instead initially wandered into this store only to find some awesome retro-dresses! THE SETUP My galpal Jenner & I were on the way back to Central Washington (after she picked me up at SEATAC), and on our way through Olympia, we got struck with massive hunger cravings for Pizza. As we headed to La Gitana, HOT TODDY crossed out path (or rather, we crossed IT'S path) and we had to wander inside of it once we were *blinded by the light* of all it's colors inside! STYLES & DESIGNS! We were inside a virtual smorgasbord of crazy fabrics & designs! I played guard to the dressing room while Jenner tried on some awesome dresses. I also foraged around for some smaller, more palatable items for a guy to wear and found some pretty cool jackets and socks. Used to love this place, but just got treated really oddly by the person working the cashier. I always visit when I'm in town from Los Angeles because I love the cute, quirky vibes. Today I walked in, a white Oly couple a few steps ahead of me. The clerk completely ignored them, but as soon as she saw me she RUSHED out from behind the counter in a panic as if to block my entry, saying "CAN I HELP YOU" in a stressed tone. She only relaxed when she saw my shopping bag from Radiance. I can't think of what would cause such a reaction, except that I am visibly brown. I'd hate to think that someone at such a sweet staple of downtown was racially profiling me. All in all it left a sour taste in my mouth. They are conveniently located downtown and the staff are knowledgeable about sizes/size conversions, personal style and quality. This sweet boutique is on Capitol Way, part of a parade of great boutiques in Olympia's downtown core. If you enjoy all the "new craft" stuff going on, appreciate handmade items, want something unique, or want to buy local - Hot Toddy is your poison. Think of this store as an elegant extension of "I Heart Rummage" or "Crafty Wonderland" or your local cool craft show, and you"ll get the idea of the type of merchandise they carry. The emphasis is primarily great, unique women's clothing & jewelry. A very welcome plus - they usually carry larger sizes in their dresses and skirts! Kudos, Hot Toddy! I bought a chunky bracelet with giant epoxied spot illustrations of birds that I get many compliments on from this store. I bought my friends embroidered patches of squirrels here. And I bought my anthropomorphic mushroom soap dispenser here. Hopefully this gives you some sense of the quirky wonder of the place. Prices for clothes are reasonable given the quality - $60 to $100+ range for many pieces. T-shirts in the $25 range. They carry some inexpensive jewelry - but the really good stuff is pricey ($50 & up)...with good reason. A nice selection of cards, a small assortment of housewares and art round out the the shop. I was thrilled to find well known Portland crafter, Cathy Pitters's, art here. I got a wonderful heart shaped tin retablo of hers - score! Fun vintage store located in downtown Olympia! Lots of fun, retro and kitchy merchandise to look at! The store is strictly a ladies clothing store so sorry guys, no clothes here for us! I often feel a bit awkward when I walk into a botique like this and sometimes the sales staff make sure that a guy does feel awkward but not here. It was all very go with the flow, congenial and nice and that is always appreciated! With that said if I ever gain any lady friends that like clothes like this I will be sure to take them here since from my glancing around the quality of the merchandise looks to be excellent! read more

I tell everyone I can about this store. They have nothing but incredibly unique, great-quality clothing. Most of their dresses have pockets! I've purchased two dresses and a hat from here that I call my 'forever' dresses because they are so amazing I wish I could wear them everyday. My friend has purchased numerous pairs of socks here. They also have some Out-of-Print items which I absolutely love. The sales people are unbelievably nice and will make you feel right at home. My only minus on this store is the music which is fine music but just crazy loud for me; preventing me from lingering. They are not unique in my issue with music being loud in shopping places though and it probably doesn't bother anyone else. read more

Shop is filled with exact replica copies of clothing and accessories from the 1940's, 50"S and 60's. They are perfect in every detail. I know because I lived in this era. The selection here is the cream of the crop! It is a fun place to visit and reminisce. Some very unique accessories that are fun even if you are not in to "vintage". What a fun burst of retail energy. Think: funky vintage pinup dresses, accessories and fun lifestyle items in that genre. Priced like boutique items but definitely worth the visit - good chance you will find some one of a kind that is a must have. This store is amazing! I came in with my daughter, sister, and mom to find a 20's inspired dress for my daughters senior prom. There was several options, but we ended up ordering a peacock inspired dress that matches my daughters blue hair :). We also got some hose, a headpiece and gloves. Hot Toddy has a hot owner. Sydney saw a need for a boutique in olympia that catered to the younger hipper generation and she did it oh so right. You won't find a beaded caftan or old lady soap up in this shop. There's so so much cute stuff that every time I'm in, someone is squealing "ooooh look at that". You'll find any little something you need or someone you love very much needs from darling wearables, to a neverending calendar, hip baby clothes, dreamy jewelry, and even yes, plus size clothing! I'm a huge fan of local boutique clothing stores -- the clothes are usually funky and fun and locally made and different. The one thing I DON'T like about boutique stores is that they're usually CRAZY expensive, and often don't have sizes that fit me right. Thank you Hot Toddy -- I found my perfect local boutique. If I had thousands of dollars, I would have bought EVERY coat they carry. Gorgeous. Also, the skirts are beautiful, the accessories glorious, and they carry Sock it to Me Socks. AND...to top it all off....the prices are reasonable. Not like Old Navy reasonable, but, "Oh god, I'm going to cringe while I turn around the price tag because this looks like it's going to be expensive.......wait. We went to Olympia to check it out this last weekend and came across some great stores. Hot Toddy was one of the best. The rest will be reviewed as I find time! I love how every store you go into is locally owned and operated. The owner of Hot Toddy was so friendly and helpful. Besides that this store is full to bursting with everything that I love. I bought a few things and found so many gems. I would love to go back to this store, but would spend my hard-earned savings in under 10 minutes. It's so cute and a wonderful little boutique. Strolling along in DT Oly before heading to the coast and stopped to check this place out. Super high prices but I didn't expect much less from a Boutique type place. They had some cute stuff but I am not willing to pay those prices because basically I am a cheap ass. I love me a bargain, What can I say. The women working was actually a little off putting. She didn't greet us when we came in and there was no one else in the store. I was then looking at the nail polish etc when she was fiddling with a dress that was on a maniquin placed near that counter. She was totally oblivious even when I said excuse me because I wanted out of the corner that I was in. Oy. My husband and I were recently driving through downtown Olympia and happened to drive past Hot Toddy. I had to go in after seeing the window display. It is like a brick-and-mortar Modcloth store inside. Lots of cute stuff, but it is a little pricey. I did happen to pick up a cool ring for my little cousin at a pretty good price though. I hate to give a boutique only three stars but I just wasn't impressed with this shop. I didn't find the staff to be friendly or helpful at all, in fact we weren't even greeted when walking in the nearly empty store. I browsed through their merchandise but didn't really see anything striking. Most of the stuff seemed to be overpriced t-shirt jersey dresses (152 dollars for that, come on!) and then lots of little half jacket thingies. The dresses in the middle of the store were nice but nothing spectacular. I just didn't see anything great and certainly nothing at an acceptable price point. read more

The owner of Hot Toddy is fantastic. I went there and purchased a dress that ended up not working out for me. Two weeks later she kindly took it back when she didn't have to. She very sweetly exchanged it for another dress I had on layaway. Not only did she give me a phenomenal hug, and my four year old a chocolate truffle on the way out, she made my day. I have been meaning to post this review for 6 months. Hot Toddy's really helped me out during a trip to Olympia, WA last fall and I wanted to share my experience with them. I was in town for work and one day on my way into the office, the sheer nylons I was wearing just decided they were no longer going to stay up! They had an elasticized band at the top which had never let me down but for some reason this day, they were DONE. I had already left my lodging and had parked up right in front of Hot Toddy to get to my office nearby. However, I literally could not take more than 2 steps without the nylons dropping to my ankles! Embarrassing! It was also super cold that day and my legs were not in any way fit to be seen bare. I walked past the shop and it hit me that they might sell tights. I was in an extreme rush at that point, but the very nice lady running the shop that day just took over and helped me out. She found me a pair of nice, opaque black tights, very warm and the perfect size. She told me to go right into the dressing room and put them on, then rang me out. I was in and out of there in maybe 7 minutes. She was wonderful and I was truly so grateful. Great, great customer service! I love the tights; it's been six months and they really have been great throughout the fall and winter. I will for sure be back. Their clothes look so lovely, but it's the great service that will bring me back to buy. Thank you! read more

Took the wife by on her birthday. She really like this boutique. If you like new clothes in vintage styles, you'll like this store. Only bad side is that they are sorta cramped into a small shop and have a lot to look at. Takes a bit of digging to get at everything. Prices may be a bit high for the items, but these are styles that you aren't going to find just everywhere. It was interesting enough that it kept me, a typical guy, interested while my wife shopped. read more

My girl and I bumped into this store last year while burning some time in Oly. I lived in town for many years, my kids still live there and I love spending time downtown when I get a chance. Hot Toddy is not only a great store in Downtown Oly... it would be great store in any major market. I have never failed to find a great gift when I drop by - excellent jewelry, great dresses and some very unique items. They have it all - underwear, bags, even great belts & belt buckles. This store is my secret weapon when I need to lift my girls spirits or just feel like suprising her with something nice. Oh, great music and the owner is always very cool and helpful! This store in Olympia is very similar to Diva Dolls in Seattle. Hot Toddy gets an additional star for a few reasons. The store owner is very friendly and accommodating without being overbearing. The associates at Diva Dolls are sweethearts but I like my store help minimal. I will ask if I need help. Also Hot Toddy has a great selection of clothing ranging from pin-up couture, Bettie Paige and heartbreaker to a few brands that I had not yet heard of. Hot Toddy carries a decent selection of sizes ranging from small to large and even has a few lux de Ville purses which were cute but over priced. Not by the store but luxe de ville purses are expensive to begin with and it was nice to inspect one without purchasing. Speaking of which, the few at this shop were actually about $7 dollars cheaper than ones I have viewed online. This store is spendy but reasonable priced compared to other stores I have been to selling similar product. Her stocking selection is fantastic and everything is very organized and easy to browse. read more

Got a ROCKING dress for mama, perfect for travel, summer and work. Very nice staff, helpful and not pushy.
