I hesitated in writing this review. People will assume I am too sensitive or exaggerating. My experience is important. Initially as I entered I was followed to the back where the purses were. I was there to by a gift for my dear friend. She followed me and never asked if I needed help. I selected my item and headed to the front. A team member by the name of "Blue" (she said) was extremely offensive and inappropriate to me. She asked if I was returning when I obviously was not as the other employee had followed me and saw me select it. Then asked if I wanted a bag for the 100 dollar purse. Of course because I had been there many times before I know they typically wrap your items and place them in a bag. I requested them to gift wrap it as I know they offer that as well. My sons saw some earrings they thought our friend would like so we began to look. The moment I touched a pair she said "those are 49 dollars". After her telling me the price of something when I had not asked or my children asked, I simply responded that I didn't request a price. (I often experience this at stores and restaurants and I find it odd and assumption based). From there her behavior declined and showed her ignorance, including telling me to set my earrings down on the counter after I tried to hand them to her, then snatching them out of my hand, and my debit card from me. In front of my kids. I told her to stop speaking to me, informed her that she was embarrassing herself, and she continued to mutter. I stood up for myself, requested owner info which she refused and instead tossed a card across the counter for the other store at me and said "you might find the owner there and she will love this story so be my guest". At that point I declined to purchase anything there. I have no reason to believe I was treated this way for any other reason than the way that I looked as I watched them help customers before me with a smile and helpful nature. I am a black woman. When sharing my story with the owner my experience as a woman of color, I was patronized and gaslit and offered a hug? Then she text my personal phone with a generic "we all have work to do" and when I responded forwarded my text to the employee that did this. I know this because she accidentally text me instead. I then requested she stop contacting me. Imagine my surprise when I come to write my review and see that other people have experience the same thing. I am so disappointed for not checking reviews years ago when I started shopping there. Thanks for reading. I am not exaggerating, I am not over sensitive and this owner and her staff simply need to do better as Olympia is continuing in its diversity. I have shopped here several times for myself and for gifts for friends or family. I seem to go at busy times because there is always a variety of customers (men, women, children). Most recently the salesperson was very interactive and wanted to make sure I saw my options and and that there was also a selection of earrings and necklaces to match! Some people don't like that sort of encounter and want to be left alone, but I found it very helpful! I appreciate that the staff checked in with me and let me know about products and pricing. For the last 10 years or so I've gone to Belleza Ropa a few times a year. Usually for Christmas or Valentine's Day. Each time I go I ending up spending five bills, or more. They do have some nice things. They have always provided great service, always friendly, polite, courteous professional. I liked them. This year I went for some things for my wife's upcoming birthday. As I walked through the door instead of the usual friendly hey how are you, a clerk starts to block my entry demanding "WHAT DO YOU WANT". What do I want? In a boutique? Seriously? OK she's having a bad day I side step her saying "to do some shopping" Proceeding into the store. She follows hovering over me "Can I help you with anything" I tell her "just browsing at the moment but I'd let her know when I need her help, thank you". In under 5 minutes, she's hovering AGAIN! "Can I help you? Same no thank you. Each time literally breathing down my neck, 3rd time was within ten minutes. This time I'm less tolerant. "LOOK I've been coming here for years, I'm not here to rob you. When I need your help I will let you know". Being scrutinized the entire time, I'd found a few things but I was done. I Left. Next day I'd chilled, anyone can have an off day. So I go to pick up the things I'd selected. Immediately I get a snide "Are you here to PAY for what you wanted yesterday?" As if I hadn't had the money the day before. To back up a moment the previous day they barely practiced any COVID safety measures. They consistently ignored social distancing, part of why I found the hovering offensive, and they hardly wore their masks. Some customers did not wear face masks at all. No one was wearing gloves, there was no sanitation station. I now always wear a face mask and new gloves for every new venue I enter. Now they demanded they sanitize my gloves for me, because I may not know how to do it right AND that I remove my gloves so they can sanitize my hands first. Another customer over hears the exchange, asks she if she needs to do that. She was told "no YOU are OK". I left but not before being childish enough to ask her if she worked for commission, while thumbing through a stack of bills. My homage to Pretty Women, despite not being pretty. When I told my wife, the story, wondering why the sudden change on how they treat me. She points out that everyone in the store is always middle class white, including me. In the winter with my mothers light olive complexion I pass as Italian but during summer I am much darker than most Japanese. Often mistaken for Hispanic, Native or mixed. She continued, with my mask on they may not have recognized me at all. Assumed I was an undesirable person, unsuitable for their store. That never occurred to me. Blatant racism happens so rarely, in my experience. I just don't think like that. Normally if someone is a jackasses, I don't spend my money with them and that's the end of it. Each time I have been in this store, I have been unimpressed. The merchandise is utilitarian at best, and the prices are exorbitant. However, my most recent visit there is the reason I will NEVER return. I was downtown Olympia for Girls' Night Out, and had bought a pair of shoes at Yolli. I changed into them, placing the shoes I had worn into the Yolli box and bag. At the end of the evening, I realized I no longer had the bag. The next day, I called the shops I could recall visiting, including Yolli. No one had found them. Yolli took my name and number, and offered to call me if they were turned in. A few days later, while walking downtown, I recalled having stopped at Belleza Ropa. I went in to ask about my lost bag. The clerks there said they had found them, but "threw them out." I stared at them in disbelief." THREW THEM OUT??" I wrote a Facebook message to the store telling them the shoes they "threw out," were favorites of mine, and cost about $40. I got a one sentence reply, stating they were sorry, but that night was very busy, and their storeroom was crowded...??? I then wrote a "snail mail" letter to the store, expressing my disappointment. I received nothing in reply. They could have simply called Yolli, and I would have had my shoes returned. The least they could have done was offer me a store credit. Was it because the bag was from a competitor's store? Well no need to worry. There is no competition between Belleza Ropa and Yolli. Yolli is a store that actually cares about their customers. I will not return to Belleza Ropa, and consider this one of the worst cases of extremely poor customer service I have ever encountered. I will be posting a great review for Yolli. Had a good feeling about the service when there was a pause in the clerks phone conversation for a moment to acknowledge and welcome me . She finished up the call quickly and offered to assist, but was relaxed and gave me room to look around . She was attentive from a distance and was immediately available when I needed help to try on find what I was looking for. The shoes I tried on fit perfectly & were available. I was greeted when I walked in which was nice. When I was ready to try on a pair of shoes, a customer that came in after me was helped first. Methinks not is an understatement. I've worked retail as I'm sure many others have, and as someone who cares about customers, I go out of my way to ensure everyone has the best service. Belleza Ropa doesn't seem to feel this way. The store is never crowded and the saleswoman is usually aloof, and, depending on how serious you look about buying, will not give you the time of day. I went in with my aunt recently who decided to buy a dress from the outside sales rack. She handed them an expired $10 coupon that didn't have an expiration date on it. As a retail employee I'm all for upfront print on these things because they cause too much confusion. The saleswoman looked anxious and waited for the store owner (I'm assuming) to get into the store a minute later to cheerfully tell us the coupon is expired. My aunt politely suggested an expiration date on future coupons but they blew off her comment and gave us an attitude about it. The sad part is it was a $10 coupon....seriously, Belleza Ropa? This place is as stuffy as stuffy gets!!! We were walking around downtown and thought we would pop in and see if they had a certain color of Birkenstocks I have been wanting!!! Well, after the lady questioned us about the other bag of stuff we had purchased at another store, then a little ankle biting dog barked and growled at us but to top it all off as we realized they didn't have what I was looking for we turned around and there she stood with her arms crossed staring at us!!! Then she says to us are you ok? No lady we aren't ok, you are rude and you hover over customers who don't fit your ideal vision of customers, hate to break it to ya, I could buy anything or everything in this store you judge mental POS.... I looked at my husband and actually said, now I know how pretty woman felt!!! Just because I am in my lazy Sunday clothes does not mean I am a thief or I can't afford items in your store!!! The truth is that shops such as these are the infrastructure of Olympia. Over-priced, out-of-touch boutiques that do not have a price tag for every customer. Anyone walking in there under the age of 30 is seen as a less valuable customer, and will be treated as such. I saw earlier that the owner said that they could find something for everyone ranging as low as $10 all the way to $180. As someone who has personally made a $200+ purchase at Belleza Ropa, I can tell you $180 is a very modest estimate of their higher end items. I had to settle on a smaller, less expensive version of the item I really wanted, which was nearly $300. You would be lucky to find any sort of item for $10 in Belleza Ropa, even their socks exceed that price point. What I won't debate is the quality of their leather. The leather items are obviously handcrafted and are appropriately priced... for the most part. read more

5 stars for the clothes- but they sell themselves for their own awesomeness. The employee that rang me up gets the one star. She didn't want to be there- she said that as she came through the door. The other employee said they could close at 5, but it was clear she wasn't the owner because she was talking about her job earlier with another customer. I spent $153 and as the employee told me my amount owed- the first words she had mumbled to me since I walked into p to the counter, I got no eye contact, smile or any resemblance of "thank you for being here". She rang me up, said "have a good day" and still hadn't looked up at me. I stood there for a minute and looked at her. And we left. I wish now I had said something- like "happy Mother's Day" but instead I said "thank you", and now I ask myself, why did I thank her? I like this store and always go in when we are in Olympia- there are tons of other stores that sell the same brands...to bad. read more

I purchased a pair of Birkenstocks here a few weeks ago. I felt unsure about the size I needed and the helpful sales gal told me to buy a size and take them home and wear them a short time around my home. She said not long because they didn't want to have my footprints left in them if I needed to return or exchange. I did just this. I made sure there was no lotion on my feet and did this on a coolish day so I would not leave sweaty feet marks in the shoes. They were uncomfortable. I returned to the store past the 10 day return period (it's summer and I was on vacation) and was curtly told they could only do store credit. I raised my eyebrows but said nothing. I continued to look around, but found nothing else. I asked for the same shoe in the other size and was told I'd have to wait because she was finishing a return. She grabbed my receipt from my shoes and crumpled it in a ball and tossed it in the garbage. All the while another sales gal stood next to her looking at their merchandise. While I waited, I continued to look at clothing and overheard the sales gal say to her sidekick "and now she wants to return them with her footprint in them!!" I guess she didn't see me standing right there when she made that comment. I said, "What? My footprint is definitely not in them except from trying them on?" She ignored me and went to the back and came right back and said they did not have the other size I requested. While she did this I was busy snapping photos of the shoes I was bringing back. I said, "Ok, I'll take a store credit or whatever you can do, and I would like my original receipt back please." She seemed to not be able to find it... so I said, "you wadded it up and threw it out... because you are upset." She went and fished it out of the garbage and said, "well I don't need it." I said, "ok, I'd like to have it then." She processed my shoes as a return and I waited silently. At the end she handed me a new receipt and my credit card, but not the original receipt so I asked for it again. She grabbed it in a huff, stapled it to the credit and handed it to me saying, "here you go, you got your RETURN." I said, "thank you, I would have been fine with store credit, it was YOUR decision to return them." and I left the store. I will never set foot in this store again, nor would I recommend anyone to shop here. The sales staff is unpredictable in my experience. They are either hovering or ignoring you entirely. I tried to contact the owner at Bellezaropa but was told she was not in the store even though I called their sister store in Port Townsend and was told she was definitely in the Olympia store. I like supporting local businesses but not this time. read more
