I went in with zero knowledge of fashion or clothing quality. I told Greg I wanted an entirely new wardrobe. He gave me 90 minutes of his attention and expertise, had everything custom tailored, and even gave me a bit of a discount without me asking. I really appreciated the help he gave me, as I would've never been able to put this all together myself. One pair of pants and a belt didn't arrive on time. They offered to ship it for free when it came in, or personally deliver it to my home. No one else in this area would offer that level of service, and for that reason, I'd never use anyone else. As I left I believed I'd gotten more than my money's worth - still do. It's pretty awesome to have a mens store downtown Oly that carries the same clothing lines as Nordstrom and Mario's in Seattle. I will admit that sometimes BF heads to Seattle to shop for a wider selection; Barney's is one of our faves. But he also does a significant amount of shopping here. They do a great job of presenting high quality duds. Decent shoe selection. Prices are reasonable and sales are ridiculous. 75% off! And don't assume that if you don't see it, they don't have it. For instance, they keep their boxer selection in a drawer. Very colorful selection. Just ask. Run by father and son, this is a great local business to support. The son cracks me up. Usually he is over the top friendly and helpful, then every so often he plays it really cool. I'm trying to figure out what triggers Mr Cool. The weather? Time of day? When Dad's not around? Last year I went to g.miller (formerly Bartel's) to rent the suits for my wedding. In addition to the huge selection of menswear in store, they had a wide variety of suits to rent. Nick is the man-- he took care of everything, and was able to help us out of a last minute wardrobe snafu! Based on my good experience with g.miller in the past, I decided to bring a few suit jackets in for alteration. I got a few quotes, and they were the most expensive by a bit. When I took it in, I knew I made the right decision. The little extra you pay for the service comes in the form of super knowledgeable salesmen. I used to buy my suits at Nordstrom. But then I discovered that G Miller could get me the same suits at the same or better price, without the hassle of driving to Seattle. Greg the owner knows his stuff, and you won't walk out until you are satisfied and look good. The casual wear here is a bit on the expensive side, but if you want a few good quality casual shirts and slacks, this is the place to get them. Plus the sales rack often has some good deals. Walked by with my wife after our anniversary trip to go find a place to eat before taking some photos at the Capitol. We saw the store and I wanted to go in to take a look. I told Wyatt about how every time I buy dress shoes they are so uncomfortable my feet will be sore for days afterwards. He showed me a pair of Ecco shoes and showed me how durable yet flexible they are. I asked for his card and said I might order a pair later and he graciously obliged. We went and ate, but after we got done I decided to go ahead and purchase a pair to be sent to my home. The whole process was a breeze. Greg Miller and Wyatt were on the phone with me nearly daily keeping me updated on the status of my order and when the shoes arrived, they fit really well and I wore them a whole day without any discomfort. I went here to ask for a referral to a tailor, to have some pants hemmed. They said they could do it. The service was good, and the hem job was good (and reasonably priced), but I noticed the clothing here is really pricey. You can get similar stuff at Nordstrom Rack for 30-50% less. So, they must have really excellent customer service to survive. read more

Excellent tailoring and customer service. I brought in a nice vintage suit that belonged to my fiancee's grandfather to have some alterations done. Greg took excellent care of this prized garment and it came back fitting great. The alterations were completed quickly and for a very reasonable price. I was introduced to G. Miller (then known as Bartels Men's Shop) in 2002, by my cousin-in-law, who lives in McCleary but was then and continues to be a regular customer. I had an emergency need for some item of clothing (I've forgotten just what), but Bartels supplied it. They also introduced me to HoldUp Suspenders, of which I bought a pair and found them superb -- so much so that I've continued buying pairs by mail as needed from G. Miller ever since. Travelling has become difficult for me because of infirmities of age, but if I ever get back to lovely Olympia, I will pay a visit to G.
