This is by far the worst BBQ I have ever eaten. The brisket, while cut thick was bland and lacked flavor, pulled pork was more like a helping of pork fat. Even smothering the meats in sauce proved to be a futile attempt at making this mess edibale. Baked beans, well they were a greasy mushy mess that I wouldn't feed to my dogs. The only thing good here was the peach cobbler and the tea. Worst use of $17.00 I have ever eaten. Simply terrible. This is a great place to go for a quick easy lunch. There's several plate lunch options and you get your food cafeteria style so you get to sit down and eat as soon as you order. If you're a college student they have a nice discount for you. read more

I stopped by Hot Rods on my way through town and got what i usually get at BBQ joints which is a pulled pork sandwich with sausage. Well Hot Rods has a Jalapeño bread that puts this sandwich over the top. On my way back through town a week later I made sure to stop and get another one! The meat was so flavorful I didn't even add the BBQ sauce to it. I didn't try anything else but based on that one sandwich this place is worth checking out. read more

Absolute waste of money. The brisket has no seasoning. There's a lack of choices for sides (only 4 with one being a dessert). The bread is only basic white bread toast. It's obvious many people haven't made it out of Ruston for barbecue. read more

Took my dad here for father's day, and I can say it was quite exceptional. Granted, the serving style was rather "momma's kitchen" what with paper/styrofoam plates and plastic utensils... The food was more than enough to make up for it. Everything tasted fantastic! I suggest a half-rack of ribs, extra Q-sauce, and a side of their apple pie and potato salad. I am not a big barbecue person, but they converted me. Their meat is usually very moist and just good. Sometimes they can miss the mark and you might get a burnt or dry piece of meat and it won't be that good. The only meat I haven't had there is their chicken so I couldn't comment on that. I do think that the sides are a bit "wishy-washy", but with good meat, I can excuse that short coming. read more

This place serves up quality barbecue! The baked beans are the best I've ever had. I think the put meat and fat from the brisket into the beans. I'm picky about potato salad and this one hits the spot! Ribs and brisket are extremely tender and flavorful and their sauce is a perfect blend of spice and sweet. On road trips I like to find local places to eat, but after eating half my over-cooked, dry brisket and lousy, over-sweet sausage, I stopped at Sonics the rest of the way. If this is the best place to eat in Ruston, best not to eat in Ruston unless you are a massive hot rod nerd and love old racing memorabilia. Staff was friendly. Not only was the chopped beef BBQ great, the sides were excellent. The slaw & potato salad were some of the best I've had at a BBQ place-usually there are some really good things and some just ok, but not here. It's all good, fresh and delicious! Good BBQ! Being from Texas and having too many BBQ choices, this was a refreshing atmosphere and good BBQ. Portions did seem a little small, but I was full when finished. Our group had brisket, sausage, ham, turkey and pulled pork of wish we all enjoyed every bite. I really like their beans and potato salad. I would definitely eat here again. read more

A buddy and I stopped in after visiting Lincoln Parish Park and I was craving BBQ. I used Yelp to find a local BBQ place that had decent/good reviews and chose this place. The service was great, they were kind and courteous as you would expect in a southern establishment. Although, I was not impressed with their BBQ or Brisket, both were lacking in flavor for sure. I added the sauce they had but it only made it worse. The Texas toast, baked beans and potato salad on the other hand was exceptional. All in all it was a great experience and I wouldn't discourage anyone from checking it out because this is my opinion and my taste is may be very different from yours. Good day! read more

We stopped here after reading reviews from other yelp members and it turned to be a good place. It smelt delicious as we walked in the door and we were greeted friendly by workers. I had the turkey, chili/beans and potato salad and my husband had the sausage and brisket with beans & potato salad all was very tasty. Can always expect same thing every time you order. Has drive-thru and sit down. Lunch special is a sandwich with 2 sides and a drink. Can also order meats by the pound. They run out of potatoes a lot. read more

There is a blond with glasses working this afternoon/evening whose mouth is going to cost you business. My wife and I each ordered 3-meat plates with my wife requesting ribs on her plate. The male employee put one rib on her plate. My wife remarked "You only get one rib now?" and before anything else could be said, the blond stated "It's ALWAYS been that way". I didn't bother to tell her that we've been eating at this restaurant since BEFORE it was Hot Rods and y'all used to put more than one rib on a plate (after it became Hot Rods) and approximately three weeks ago she ordered the same meal and was served two full sized ribs, not an end rib. Additionally, the single rib she received didn't have enough meat on it to fill the plastic fork. Also, the male employee apparently put a slice more of turkey than he was supposed to because she instructed him to remove it. My wife shared that with me after we paid and sat down to eat. If I had noticed it then, we would've walked out. This used to be a wonderful place to bring friends and eat. If ribs costs you that much, why don't you take them off the menu? I used to eat here often but since moving away I no longer have the ability to do so. While back in town I got 2 to go plates and 2 sweet teas totaling $27.80. I did not have an issue till I seen what this bought me: 1 (one) 4 inch long rib, 7 one inch squares of dried out brisket, about 1/4 cup of smoked sausage, a sauce cup size of beans and potato salad, and a slice of bread. The food to price ratio is way off!! I went to a steak house the next day getting 2 steaks, 2 baked potatoes, and 2 salads, with unlimited tea refills, for LESS than this unimpressive barbeque plate. Not planning on going back unless I decide to over pay for dinner again. read more
