    Fun lunch

Excellent place for lunch. Healthy choices. Very tasty meals for the right price. Hard to beat.

    Food to go.

I work a few doors down from Hot Peppers which is in an area of LIC with super limited food options. This place serves Tex/Mex type food and is set up very much like a Chipotle. I opted for a salad bowl with warm shrimps which Chipotle does not offer. My bowl was filled with salad greens, a few sautéed peppers, a sprinkling of smallish, pink shrimp and a scoop of guac. It was good-not great. Something about the flavors of every part of my salad tasted a bit warmed over and borderline stale. The staff at Hot Peppers is nice enough and the prices are fair but I probably won't go back.

Loved this place !! Super quick and fresh. Loved their original location in Oakland Gardens ! Service is fast . Way better than Chipotle and they have a great Lunch Special.

    Burrito Bowl with Tofu ($8.49)

Is a true Chipotle competitor finally here? I think so! Priced at a very reasonable and extremely competitive $8.49 for lunch, one can get some excellent Mexican food with a good variety of proteins. I got the Tofu burrito bowl which was really good thanks to some amazing sauces they have, but in no way, could it compete against the Sofritas bowl as far as the unique protein taste is concerned. Still, the sauces and guac along with a relatively flavorful fajita mix, black beans, and spicy chimichuri sauce adds a tremendous amount of flavor to the dish. With ever increasing prices at Chipotle, this is definitely priced to attract many Chipotle fans, including me! Excellent service too. Will definitely visit again!

    Chicken bowl

Came for lunch on a weekday and was happy to see that they do a $9 lunch special! I built a chicken bowl with lots of toppings. Really solid lunch option in the area (and guac is free). Employees were very welcoming.

$10.75 for a chicken bowl with basically unlimited toppings is a good deal. Queso and guac included. They definitely used basmati rice so I hope you like that texture. It's not what you get at chipotle or qdoba. In the end it tasted very different from chipotle even though I ordered pretty much the same thing. Seemed like there were some middle eastern seasonings. They were not serving lettuce today with their bowls which is annoying. They have a variety of sauces you can also drizzle on top and an option for tortilla or hot peppers on top as well. The place was so big they could've had more seating.

Amazing rice bowls in LIC! This is similar to chipotle, but BETTER and CHEAPER! also they give free guac! Loved the lemon herb drizzle. Generous portions. The flavors are definitely better. No wait. Very spacious inside. They only opened 2 days ago so maybe that's why there isn't much seating. Hopefully they will add more tables and chairs soon!

Long line for the first day

It was their opening day and free food for all! They advertised on Instagram and the line was poppin, but they made the line very efficient and smooth. The location was clean and had a good amount of seating for another day but it was quick and easy to get in and out. All of the people on the line were great and it was a similar concept to Chipotle but their sauces were different and they also had some bomb dips like a tomato and a white bean dip to top it. Their tomaoes were super fresh in their salsa I just wish they had had chips but it seems like that'll be available another day. They even gave us a lemonade to try. The chicken was well cooked and warm on the bowl but the flavor definitely came from the dips rather than the meat seasoning. Looking forward to going back another less packed day to support a small business rather than chipotle across the street

Free on opening day- Beef burrito bowl- Take out
    Jan Y.

Was here opening day for the free food deal, I love a deal esp if close to home, can't say no! For their generosity I needed to return the favor by putting in my 2 cents with a small honest review. I don't know the prices so I can't comment on that, but the food I ate was very good. A chaotic first day and yet they were able to keep the food high quality and on top served with a smile which speaks volumes. I opted for beef burrito bowl, the rice was cooked well, beef was flavorful, and all the toppings and sauces were fresh under a bed of crispy lettuce. I would recommend my friends and I myself will back back as a paying customer. Give them a go, you won't be disappointed!

A quick internet search led me to this tiny little takeaway window. There were a few people waiting around for their orders, but the service was quick, and super friendly. The birria was amazing, super tender, perfect seasoning and came with two sauces for dipping. Unbelievably flavourful, and an impressive serving size. Great value for the money. We had our usual list of spots in Midtown East, but this time we wanted something a little different. We ultimately landed on Mexican, however even then there were several spots to chose from. One of my colleagues found CdM, and since we had nothing to lose we decided to check it out. In terms of physical space at CdM, there is very little; this is actually a walk-up spot hence it is solely a takeout restaurant. The menu is pretty straightforward - lots of Mexican staples with a good variety to choose from. The burrito bowl looked good so I decided to go with that - I was given choice of protein (I chose pastor) and types of beans (I chose black). The bowl was really good - all the ingredients tasted fresh and they were generous with the portion. They added sour cream to the top of the bowl and it came with a side of salsa verde which I thought was a nice touch. We also ordered some bags of tortilla chips to share - these were my favorite kind as they were semi-thick and super crunchy. Overall, I had a solid experience at Cinco de Mayo. It definitely hit the Mexican craving spot and I would have no qualms returning for another meal.

I didn't see any but saw buckets for umbrellas. I opted not to leave it there since I didn't wanna forget or risk someone taking it. I took it upstairs with me. My friend had arrived and was seated. Apparently, they do offer sleeves because she got one. But the 3 people who were at the hostess booth failed to offer me one. The beautiful ambiance will get your attention immediately. It is a stunning space. The tableware was gorgeous as well. We waited for our last friend to arrive who was almost half an hour late before ordering (we thought she'd arrive sooner). Our server, Matias was gracious about it the whole time. What we ordered: Drinks: Passionfruit Margaritas & Mojito - we were happy with them. Tlayudas, Guacamole y Salsas - this was really good and a great option for the table to share. The homemade chips alone were excellent. Liked all the different dips. Guac could've used some cilantro and more acid/spice. Tán Ceviche - I loved this. Super fresh and great flavor. Could use a touch of acid. My entree was the Shrimp & Crab Enchiladas - This was pretty good. The sauce could've used some spice and some acid to cut through the richness. My friend ordered the Yellow Corn Soup as part of her meal and she did not like it. She said it was too sweet which I thought was strange. I tried a spoonful and I agreed with her. It needed a savory note and again, acid would've done wonders. Also, the crab was a bit fishy in this. She enjoyed her tamal though. I tried a touch of the sauce and it was delish. My other friend had the Quesabirria which she was also happy with. To sum up: Ambiance: 5/5 The space is undoubtedly gorgeous. Food: 4/5 Beautiful presentation on everything but each dish lacks an element or two to make it a home run. Staff: Wait staff 5/5. Downstairs staff (greeters/hostess) 4/5. Needs to be more on point like offering customers sleeves for umbrellas or pointing out the buckets to put them in. At some point through our entrees a group of 3 women were doing a 10-minute photo shoot by the stairway where our table was. Absolutely inappropriate behavior and a manager should've stopped it. Camera flashes all up in our faces while we're eating wasn't cool. Overall, still a great elevated Mexican cuisine option. The slight tweaks would make this a 5 star place for me. I'd return to try more things.

If you are someone who is looking at an aesthetic place, this is a top contender. Unfortunately, I would say this place is better looking than the food is good. The food was fine, appetizers were all fresh but lacked any real depth in flavor. I wasn't too thrilled with the bone marrow I had either (but the tortillas come in the cutest basket). Personally, if it wasn't for the drinks and the space, I cant say this place is worth it - you're not coming here for the food. Another little complaint I have is the women's restroom on the second floor - right by the door is a floor to ceiling mirror which I understand was included to make the space seem bigger, but my friends and I agreed that it is a little misleading - I kept wanting to walk into it thinking there was more space there and not wall. I would recommend maybe putting a decal on it to clearly show its mirror.

Decent size Mexican restaurant with some seating in the front and a handful of tables in the back dining room. We started with chips and guac. The guac is large so I understand the price. It was very good. No complaints. The chips could have used more salt though which is always a concern. You'd think Mexican spots would have a tortilla chip down by now. I ordered a steak quesadilla. The steak was tender and had pretty good flavor. I just wish there was more. Especially considering the price. Certainly not a bad quesadilla but the value wasn't quite there. Still, a fine option if you want Mexican food and you are in the area. I'd say the 3.5 rating is pretty spot on.
