WORST HAIR SALON EXPERIENCE EVER! BARBIE SHOULD HAVE HER LICENSE REMOVED. DO NOT GO HERE!!! I walked out sobbing! Here's why. I am new to Redlands from OC and wanted to have a hair place closer to my new home. I called and researched several salons. Called Hot Locks and asked if they had an experienced stylist that specialized in blonde weaves to work on my hair. I called again to speak with the stylist and confirm our appt and make sure she was the best blonde person they had to offer. Oh yes Barbie is great, I brought several photos of what I liked and wanted. She assured me "no problem, trust me". The process began. But different from anything I had ever experienced. She used paint brushes, cellophane and 2 colors. A dark and bleach. I informed her I had been growing out my hair and wasn't able to have it done for months due to illness and hair loss from several surgeries.My hair was longer and thicker and healthy now. I wanted to look pretty and not have my hair damaged. So the process began and I was getting more and more nervous. She complained about everything. Foulmouthed language, very negative and even informed me of her "female monthly problems" to a very uncomfortable status! As I sit with the very heavy cellophane slapped haphazardly on my head I asked to go the ladies room so I could look closer. I was scared! As i went back to the chair I noticed a stylist flossing her teeth walking through the middle of the salon, another stylist husband just sitting around in a chair talking with people for a couple hours, dirty cups everywhere and A LOT of empty chairs. All the stylist just sitting looking at their phones. Once she decided to take me back to rinse she said "don't worry the dark will wash out in a couple weeks, I made it extra dark because it washes out really easy"! I wanted blonde and was not even wanting dark WTF! Got back to the chair my hair soaking wet and she assured me again it "just looks dark cause its wet". She combed it out and was going to trim the back, she made 2 cuts and said "oh Ill finish when its dry. She never did. Thank God. She dried it while adding almost an entire can of root boost spray. I turned around and my hair was green, brown, orange, purple and sticky with all the spray she added. I sat quietly, pointed to the side and tears just started rolling from my eyes. I said why? what did you do? Look at the pictures I have here, this is unbelievable. I was so sad. she asked me to come back the next day to fix it. The I looked up and was pale as a sheet. She said her next appt was drinking next door and she could fix it right then. I was quivering and wish I would have ran out! She told me to stop it, that I was making her nervous. She then told me to trust her that she would add all the blonde back in. Trying to make "small talk" with me. I couldn't speak, The owner I need to mention walked by a few times and just looked at me in the face as I was crying and said nothing. I was rinsed again, then poured a cold thick gel over my whole head. I asked what it was and was told its just going to help. NO! Got back to the chair and blow dried very rough. She said well on the bright side I wont charge you. That she had done all she could do and hopes I find a forever stylist some day. I stood there tears rolling and in shock. She said here is a free sample hair shine...I just looked and put up my hand. She walked in the back and never came out, I looked at the owner right behind Barbies chair and she looked away. I slowly walked out. My wonderful husband called a friends wife in the industry and explained how hurt I was. She found me a "rescue gal" she trusted to go to the next day. A Saturday appt during December. A blessing. What a Saint she was. They were in horror looking at my hair..referred to a calico cat. So many different colors and just could not believe it. She said this will take a few sessions to get corrected. My hair has always been blonde and NEVER this dark. I mentioned where I had it done and said Barbie at Hot Locks did it. Well the stylists around me gasped! They knew exactly who she was and she had been fired from this place previously. That she is in fact "crazy". She has worked at several salons and moved on saying its always the salons fault not hers. The owner at Hot Locks should take some professional accountability for her salon. She witnessed this tragedy take place and turned her head. Earlier saying I cant wait to leave and get drunk. Due to being sick I am insecure about things and my hair is a very big deal. This was not just an appointment gone bad...this is going to hurt me everyday I look in the mirror till my hair comes back. Not to mention the cost for all the repair work it is going to take. I came in to the salon looking for a balayage. I showed my stylist (who i will spare the name of) photos of what I wanted, and she told me she could do it with no problem. A week later I went into my appointment, showed her the same exact photos, and she told me there would be no way she could do it and there is not enough time. She asked me why I never told her I wanted a balayage and she would have never agreed to do it with her "limited time". After listening to her degrade me for 15 minutes, then watching her realize that she had in fact seen those photos one week earlier, she still said she could not do it. We agreed to tone my hair to a color we agreed upon and also "add some blended highlights close to the toner color to the front" because it would take less time. Fine. 1 hour later I have two huge chunks of blonde on the front. $280. For two chunky, very poorly blended, highlights and some toner. I mentioned the highlights are a lot lighter than I wanted, and she told me to "give it a couple weeks and if I didn't like it come back" and she would charge me again to tone them down. Not only was this experience ridiculously overpriced (a balayage is $225 and I did not even get CLOSE to that amount of work done), but the stylist was overwhelmingly accusatory and frustrating. Best salon and customer service, Kay the owner does my hair. Recently I had her do hair extensions because of a devastating hair cut by another stylist in lake arrowhead. I had issues keeping the extensions in, because of products I was using. Every time I called Kay she would take my calls, even on a Sunday when she was at a concert. On her days off age would come in and spend hours redoing the extensions at no charge. I have never had someone be kind and helpful to make me happy, especially when the issue was my mistake. If anyone goes to any stylist at Hot Locks and you have any issue I urge to contact Kay, she will anything and everything to make you happy. read more

I have had the same hairstylist for 12 years, Johanna Fisher. I followed her to Hot Locks salon and have found the service and atmosphere of Hot Locks to be both professional and friendly. When I walk in I am immediately taken care of and rarely have to wait. Johanna always listens to what I want to do with my hair, taking time to explain different cutting and color techniques. I trust her judgement and skill. She also has a very unique way of making me feel comfortabe, and this feeling is echoed throughout the salon. I walked into "Hot Locks"...the decor was professional decorated..the owner Kay told me she did it. I liked her hair style very much too. I wanted a complete new look and I felt she had a lot of taste so I asked her to give me a "new look"..she was very blunt with me and said my hair was "old ladyish"..I'm just being honest"...she argued that with my shape face my hair should be behind my ears. I was very resistant but I let her cut, restyle and color my hair. She took 10 years off my face! I can't imagine having any other cut! Kay is hip, has experience and a great eye. I've been going to Hot Locks for years and have always had the best service provided by the owner. She is very professional and keeps her salon in top condition. I first came to Hot Locks because my previous hair dresser really messed up my color and cut. When I called the owner and explained my situation she had me come by immediately to take a look. She was able to fit me into her busy schedule an did an awesome job. The staff is friendly and goes out of their way to accommodate and provide excellent service. I've been going to Hot Locks since we moved to Redlands in 1998. I recently decided to change my hairstyle. Staci has been doing a great job for me for years and did a fantastic job this time as well. I decided on a short cut and brought a picture in of what I had in mind. I loved what she did! I have been going to Johanna at Hot Locks Salon for over ten years. In that time she has done colors, cuts, extensions, and I have added my entire family to her schedule. I always leave happy! She is always up on the latest trends and makes sure to suggest them when I say I want a change. She is always available when I need her. Johanna has been my stylist for a couple of years now. I have my hair done by her about every 8 weeks and am never disappointed. Johanna listens to what I ask for and explains options. Kay is the best in the business and her salon is the best in the Inland Empire. I have been coming here faithfully for five years now and will be returning here to have my color done by Kay even after I move back to Phoenix this summer. She is FABULOUS. I made an appointment with Kay, the owner, for a color correction. My color was in horrible shape from going to cheap salons. "You get what you pay for" has never been a truer statement. Kay did an absolutely amazing job on my color (weave) & cut! I've never had so many compliments on anything in my life. Just got my extensions done and WOW are they good! I have multi tonal blond hair, I have looked at other extensions but never liked them. The owner, Kay, got out this HUGE ring of color samples and we found the PERFECT shade! I had them done and didn't have to take them out for 2 days! I braided my hair, put it in a soft bun and no problems! They're comfortable and natural looking. They are real hair so, more expensive but really, I could never grow my own hair this good! read more

Shelly is a magician! I am a low maintenance hair gal with wavy, curly hair. I have usually gone in to the hair salon asking for a shape up on my curly hair and have left in tears, either too short or unable to replicate the stylist, so after a year of letting my hair grow, and attempting to trim it myself, I made an appointment with Shelly!
