I have VERY thick, dark, coarse, and long (WELL past my shoulders) Asian (Filipino) hair. And have I got A LOT of it. I have had stick straight hair all my life that has always been stubborn; it's always been extremely difficult to hold a curl and even color. I contacted Kathy on Wednesday morning through Yelp asking if she would be able to perm my hair. YES, I was inquiring about a PERM - I got so tired of my flat, straight hair and wanted to actually have texture and curls/waves for once! It gets frustrating being sweaty in a bathroom trying to curl my hair for 1+ hours knowing that the curls are just going to go away within a few hours. Anywho, she responded very quickly and soon enough we were texting about the condition of my hair and I ended up seeing her later on that same day for a consultation! I was pretty much sold on her knowing she is half Asian and had been doing perms on her mother, who is Asian, for YEARS. I was really trying to seek out stylists that knew how Asian hair work and had tons of experience with it - and here she was! She was able to pencil me in the next evening and I couldn't have been more excited. She had trimmed my hair beforehand & my perm took around 3-4 hours. Kathy is so knowledgeable and so much fun to talk to & hilarious lol - those 3-4 hours went by pretty fast to me! I am so pleased with my hair and I've gotten so many compliments already. Kathy was rude, disrespectful, unknowledgeable and immature. Not only did she mistake my appointment time slot but in proceeding in making this mistake, she dodged any responsibility by saying that I should have written the time down instead of asking her. I quote her, "It's not my fault you didn't write it down. I text you the wrong time, but that's not on me. You should have written it down" All with a condescending tone that truly shocked me and made me mad as I was being super polite to someone I would be trusting with my hair. You can understand the clients point of view here, but at the end, she continued to blame me for the wrong time and refused to give me my deposit back because she said it was not her fault for texting me the wrong time. I personally like to give my business and my money to someone who treats me with respect and decency. She is a phony person who will show her true colors with any small sign of disagreement. Do not come to her, and if you do, test her out, see how she responds when you ask anything more of her that is merely that of a general good customer service. See for yourself, or not. read more

As i mentioned before, I've never given any review unless the service is extremely good or extremely bad. Kathy is special. She is very passionate in what she does over 25+ years. She is personable and so much fun to talk to. You can tell she is really listening when you talk to her. Her salon is super cute and cozy. After all these years, i was never 100% satisfied with ANY hair style/color/balayage work i found in IE, LA, OC, even San Diego. I would literally go once, then never again! Due to my difficult type of hair and need i have, many times I had to walk out barely noticing a difference from when i walked in. UNTIL I FINALLY FOUND KATHY!!!!! (The heavens opened and angels were singing) I found her through yelp. She had enough pictures and great reviews that i felt comfortable enough to try her out. But from my previous experiences, I couldn't judge from yelp or instagram pictures. TRUST ME WHEN I SAY SHE IS THE BEST! She truly knows what she's doing. They do not provide services for ethnic hair. I felt condescension when I received a response to my inquiry about maintaining my curl pattern. Don't come here if you are interested in having your ethnic hair colored. Did not feel any welcoming tone, at all. I sent messages to numerous hair stylists and hers was weighted with condescension. Disgusting. Response: I stand by my feeling that reframing my question in quotes , rather than responding to my need for curl maintenance right away, comes off as condescending when my question was pretty straight forward. I previously had blue/purple colored hair on the under layers and wanted to change up the color to burgundy, not only on the previously colored hair but also my natural black hair.
