Best hostel in Denver! Everyone is super friendly. They have a bar too! Super cool place!

I'm a huge fan of Hostel Fish. I've stayed there a few times on business as well as once for pleasure while in town. The hostel is super clean, with very comfortable beds and pillows. The showers are clean and very spacious. The bar in the hostel is fantastic as well with a few taps, a good selection of bottles and a few different absinthe to try. For the price, a stay here can't be beaten anywhere in Denver. read more

Chill spot. Front desk guy was super cool and helpful. I had the king room. Went alone but imagined it'd be perfect for a group of friends. Bar area, kitchen, balcony, locker room are all cool spots to hang. Everywhere was super clean including bathrooms. I probably won't be staying in downtown Colorado to be closer to attractions, but driving distance to attractions isn't bad at all. $7 overnight parking and $5 day parking on the side or behind, couldn't understand the street parking though. Downtown is a typical downtown so keep that in mind if traveling alone. Very cool place to stay read more

Friendly service and clean accommodations. Communal restrooms and 24 hour security. I have a locker in my room and the linen was provided. Most people congregate at the bar here. People young and old staying here. Cannabis Station next door and club downstairs seem to be very busy. Free towels provided. On the first day I did return to my room to find my locker open and $70 gone. Be very careful and be sure your lock is secure. Prices on beverages very reasonable Funky decor centrally located. Stayed here again for a second time, this time on a Monday & Tuesday night, and found the hostel to be better than last year. I highly recommend Fish if you want an affordable option downtown, close to public transit and tons of entertainment. I was in town for a baseball game, which is only 2-3 blocks away. My suggestions this time are minor: #1: Match the bottom sheets with the mattress -- my excellent mattress was 12 inches high, but the bottom sheet only went half-way down, so every time I turned over, the bottom sheet came off the mattress. #2: The lighting in the bar at night -- it was almost completely dark at night, which is great if you have infrared vision, but for travelers, evenings are the best time to connect with other guests and make plans for the night, but that just doesn't happen in this kind of atmosphere. #3: The coffee -- they serve a locally sourced brew in the morning, but my god, this stuff is acidic. After half a cup, you can use the rest to burn the fungus off an infected toenail. In terms of noise, I recommend a room on the 3rd floor, which was much quieter than my room last year on the 2nd floor. However, all rooms face 1 of 3 different streets, and depending on the day of week, 2 of the 3 are louder than usual. During the week, I think all are fine. During the weekends, I recommend rooms facing Lawrence St, so call or email to make a specific request. Lastly, bring earplugs, or request them at reception. The heating/air conditioning system in the rooms is excellent but loud, so you will sleep better if you have earplugs. SomeBozo read more

I had such an amazing time here this past week. I felt so safe the whole time. The prices are amazing and the interior decor was FAB. The bar was open with social distancing polices, and the owner even made our drinks! He is so cool. The parking there was amazing too. I rented a car and found street parking a lot. Free after 10pm! Otherwise, I used lots. The bed was clean and the bathrooms were spotless. The friends I made here were so kind, as well. I would def stay here again. I loved the aesthetic. read more

Loved my stay! I was a solo traveler in a female only dorm with beautiful views of Coors Field. There are outlets right next to each bunk bed (even outlets for the top bunk) and lockers in each room. I locked up my laptop, but felt comfortable enough not locking up my bags. For a bunk bed, the mattress was actually super comfy and I liked the sheets/comforter they provided. And the bathrooms were super clean! Only reason why I'm giving 4/5 instead of 5/5 is they were hosting a music event in the evening which was just super loud as myself and the other people in the room were trying to get ready for bed and it could be heard clearly from upstairs. Also, everyone at the front desk was great and attentive, but there was one employee who was over the top trying to flirt with me while I was just trying to get the WiFi password...it made me feel awkward and a bit uncomfortable. But overall, I'd definitely recommend! Great location too. read more

This place is too wonderful! The beds are unbelievably comfortable for a hostel. It's charming, clean, enchanting. Highly recommend for travel to a new city & meeting people. There's a great bar inside & another downstairs for socializing. It's located right down town for all your sightseeing needs. Parking is kind of expensive so consider that if you have a rental. Otherwise, it's amazing & was the best way to ring in the new year. Can't wait to come back! read more

I stayed here for two nights in the Motorcycle Room. The second night was busier than the others, but had a great experience both nights...I met some great people! I was easily able to walk to Coors Field, First Draft bar on 26th, and Union Station - all very quick walks with great views along the way! In the heart of the city, you are surrounded by everything fun! The room itself was neat and wonderfully decorated. Beds were so comfortable! Lockers are available in the rooms if you'd like to safely store your belongings while out. Bathrooms are community style, very clean! The second level bathroom that I used had three shower stalls with an area just outside your shower to dry off/change/etc. Loved staying here and definitely look forward to staying here again! Things to note (did not affect my stay whatsoever, just good to know!): 1. Be sure to bring earplugs if you're a light sleeper - you can easily hear people walking in the hallways and of course are sharing a room with other people. If you forget your own, the front desk does offer them for free! (I am a heavy sleeper, did not need plugs). 2. You are not allowed to bring your own linens, including shower towels, pillows or blankets. 3. Parking is something to consider if you're a traveler with a rental car. There are nearby options that are pricier, or cheaper options that require you to buy new tickets in the early hours of the day. Enjoy your stay here! read more

Stayed here for Labor Day weekend. Hostel Fish is a cool, very hip place, with great diversity in the travelers that stay here. I stayed in one of the girls' only rooms on the third floor. The pros: - Very affordable - Excellent location - Comfortable beds - Laid back employees - Friendly and respectful travelers - Stylish environment The cons: - Bathrooms (especially the showers) weren't the most clean. - Not a ton of storage space in rooms. They have small lockers and the beds have spaces at the feet for your bags. - Not a place to go for awesome nights of sleep. With at least 6 people in the room, there were people coming and going at the wee hours of the night and at all hours of the morning, myself included. This is just to be expected at a hostel. Overall, I enjoyed my stay here and would stay here again. I met a lot of really nice people and took advantage of the pub crawl, the bar, and other amenities offered by Hostel Fish. It's definitely a great option for solo travelers, as well as those looking for a central location. read more

It feels like staying in a college dorm. There is no free parking anywhere close and the two parking lots there are don't feel safe. Plus it doesn't matter if it's 1 or 12 hours it charges you a flat rate of $15.99 that you have to keep paying. If you like hostels then you may enjoy this place but the service wasn't great, all the rooms share a communal bathroom and shower. There is no drink menu at the barely excuse for a bar. The room was semi clean and it was over all an alright place but hit something we would do again. read more

A hostel in Denver? I didn't know such a thing existed until I attended a Yelp elite event here. Hostel Fish is an awesome scene, beautifully decorated in a perfect location in LOdo next to all the bars. The rooms are really nice looking and the place had good vibes. They have a great bar themselves with friendly staff. It should be easy to make friends and meet other travelers. I decided to travel alone from California and found this place to stay and it was the BEST decision. The staff is friendly, the building is very clean and unique. I loved that the bathrooms were always spotless and the showers were easily accessible. I would highly recommend this place to anyone and I look forward to another stay! The place is as clean as any hotel I have ever stayed at. The bathrooms are spotless and it's smack dab in the middle of everything you'd want to do in LoDo. We absolutely loved our stay at Hostel Fish! Very clean, staff was so friendly and helpful, beds were super comfortable and they had so many little things (locks, towels, hair dryer, toiletries, etc) if needed. Took one point off because one of the rooms we stayed in was pretty rough. We stayed in three different rooms over the course of our stay. The first room was quiet, had great storage under the bed, nice beds with a privacy curtain, outlet, light, and little shelf. The second room, the motorcycle room, had none of those things, just a bunch of metal bunks in a room. Someone has clearly made himself at home bc his stuff was scattered all around the room, blocking the very limited, single tiny locker. As a femme traveler staying in a room with mostly men, I wish they could've offered that privacy curtain at the very least. I asked the wonderful staff if I could change rooms to a femme only room and they let me change, no problem! That room, the women only room, was just as great as the first co-Ed one we stayed in. My bf stayed in the moto room and said I was lucky to have gotten out, there was no privacy and it stayed loud throughout the night. So grateful for the kind and patient staff who did everything they could to ensure everyone had a great stay. $50/night felt a little pricey for the room without any privacy, but the other rooms felt worth it. No complaints. - The staff were accommodating, neither friendly or rude. - The day cleaners were chill. - Place was very clean. - Right above a bar, so expect a lot of noise if you are in a 1st floor room. - There's a bar, but when I was there the crowd was very...odd. Mainly made up of the hostel employees, no friendly welcomes when me or my roommates walked in. Overall I left on a positive note. I was lucky to stay in the same room as a bunch of cool dudes that have invited me to hang out with them in Israel, Saudi Arabia, and Toronto! I stayed on a weekend, so the proximity to bars was great. Also, around 2am the balcony has a great view of all the ghetto that is Saturday night Denver. read more

I stayed at Hostel Fish in November 2017 with a handful of friends. With the price for hotels in downtown Denver, finding Hostel Fish was a dream. We received a free beer upon check-in, which was much needed after spending a day traveling. The beds were comfy and the bathrooms were clean (probably due to the no-vomiting rule). We stayed in the Paris room (females only) and although the room wasn't too Paris-y, besides a framed poster of the Eiffel Tower, and the lockers being very noisy, the room was fine. The only downside was the noise, both in the street and in the bar downstairs, and the steep stairs, but the location and cost made staying at Hostel Fish worth it. If you stay at Hostel Fish, I suggest bringing a sleep mask, ear plugs, and sleeping pills to defend against the noise, but I would stay there again. read more

Traveling to Denver, inbetween my Oregon trip and returning back home, I was looking for a relatively inexpensive experience! For about half the price I got about double the experience here at Hostel Fish. This was back in 2016, and still to this date one of my most memorable experiences. I dont think it wouldve been the same without this hostel! Meeting people from all over the country and world was my favorite part. As a woman traveling alone, I felt very safe here, and opted for a woman only dorm to feel extra comfortable! Will come back if I'm ever in Denver. read more

Really cute hostel, I would say the pictures were really accurate. The staff was really nice and they had a cute layout where there's a bar in the hostel, the hostel is right above another bar, there are ceiling windows so you get this nice airy, lofty feel. The beds we're also very comfortable and not "comfortable for a hostel" but actually legit comfy. The lockers in our room are about your standard highschool sized one -- enough to fit a backpack and other small things. And we had a gorgeous view of the local city (ours didn't have a view of the DT Skyline or anything but it was really nice). The only annoying thing was having to pay for parking. Everything at the hostel was great, staff, guests. People were really cool. Cant say enough good things about the bed. So comfortable. My only issue was the location and the street people who were much more aggressive than what ive seen before, but then again thats not the hostels issue. But still....someone tried to steal a guests bicycle that was inside the front door. Manager saw him and a crew of guys ran after the thief. I booked this place on a whim. Let me tell you, it was a treat. The atmosphere was welcoming and homey. Staff was there to set me up after midnight to due late plane arrival. She walked me through all I needed to know about coed dorm style accommodations, where to get a bite late night, and free drink back at their bar. Which I did of course. Everything was clean and organized. Bathrooms were were especially clean. Overall, a place that is friendly and welcoming with great character and eclectic touches in decor and art. We stayed here in December and were thoroughly disappointed by our stay. As it was advertised as an "upscale, premium" hostel we thought it worth it to pay a little more but the actual hostel rooms and amenities were equivalent to most other hostels. Then, during our first night we were woken up at 4am on the first night to three men yelling at each other and physically fighting with each other before it sounded like somebody tumbled down the stairs. Afterwords we heard them yelling and shouting for another half hour or so while one of them was audibly retching. After a while one or another of them began yelling repeatedly "help! someone help!". At this my partner got out of bed and stuck his head out to find out what was happening and was told it was a "long story, don't worry about it" by the person throwing up who may also have worked at the hostel. We later learned that the hostel is above a music venue and the two businesses share an elevator. It's possible that the scuffle we heard was caused by concert goers who had drunkenly wandered into the hostel, but that didn't necessarily make us feel any safer After that first night, we decided to stay somewhere else, rather than risk another night of interrupted sleep when we had wedding events to attend the next day. Upon check-out we inquired whether we might be able to cancel our second night because of the disturbance but the staff member told us that "it's a hostel, that's kind of what you get." We did not get our money back. I've stayed at many hostels and have never experienced something like this. If you're choosing between this hostel and a more expensive hotel closer in to the Mall or the Milk Block, go with the hotel. The savings aren't worth it. read more

What an awesome stay! The hostel is located within steps of food, bars, art galleries, and Coors Field. It's easy to find, easy to park, and easy to book. The room was awesome. It's sleeps 9 people but it was quiet, cozy, and the beds were incredibly comfortable. It was a little hot on the top bunk though. The rooms, bathrooms, and common areas were all very clean. They offer a kitchen, common room, dart board, bar, iPad, and have lots of small things available too-like padlocks, toiletries, and other smalls. Overall, wonderful experience. It was my first time in Denver and I thought this would be a great place to stay. There was only one employee who had great customer service and it seemed he liked his job. The others pretty much seemed miserable and didn't provide a welcoming feel at all. The beds were comfy and it was clean. If you want to get a good nights sleep...do not choose the graffiti room!! There is a bar downstairs and the music and bass are so loud throughout the late hours of the night. Once they turn it off, you then hear the noise from the hostel bar. You can hear everyone talking and yelling. You also hear everyone walking and the doors slamming. No one helped me with suggestions of what to do or where to go except the one guy who seemed to like working there. I won't be staying here again...I've looked at the other hostel And it looks way more appealing, even if it is further from downtown area. read more

I've never bothered to write a Yelp review before, but I had such a great experience at Hostel Fish that I felt compelled to. Initially, as I'd never stayed at a hostel before, I was a little nervous. But upon arriving and seeing the gorgeously designed spaces and meeting the incredibly friendly staff my fears were quickly allayed. My stay in the map room was great, and I got to meet a bunch of friendly travellers I never would had the opportunity to meet at a chain motel. Besides the quality of the hostel (and they keep it in tip-top shape, I can tell you as someone who saw the before and morning after of the NYE party they threw at the bar [yes, they have a bar in the building]), the location cannot be topped. Walking distance to the Colorado Convention Center, Coors Field and dozens of restaurants, shopping areas, clubs and bars. Friendly staff, great amenities, beautiful building, but the bar downstairs (and directly below the graffiti room) shook the floors and beds for hours making it impossible to sleep well. Try to get something on the third floor or don't plan on going to bed until the band downstairs is done playing. Great hostel though. read more
