Parking was easy, check in was easy, everyone was friendly and people used the common areas. Toast the cat was my favorite part of this trip. She was friendly and was cute as can be. I read reviews that featured the cutie, I wanted to see if it was true. Traveling I miss my cats always so it's nice to give some of that love to Toast and her return the love with meows and purrs. Very friendly, clean hostel with.A great vibe. I met a few other travelers from different states with interesting stories to tell as soon as I walked in. I arrived late but the reception was great. The lady at the front desk gave me my key card and a quick tour of the place. I stayed in the 8 room all female room. It was perfect very cool and quiet we had our keys for access and the door locked after passing through making it a secure room. . People were respectful of others and we were all in the same boat which made the experience unique. All on some sort of adventure passing through Colorado. read more

Nothing was compensated for me having to stay in the room with a person who was extremely hostile towards me making an unsafe environment. In multiple visits in Denver I usually stayed at the Hostel Fish. But when found out about this Hostel I checked out. I'm glad I did. Best Hostel Service I ever experienced. My second Hostel I stayed mansion wise. Close to all the Socials in downtown Denver. I love in the interaction meeting people from places. What made my experience great during my first time there is the staff. So warm and friendly. Serene and Alyssa were really kind especially Alyssa. Approach with a warm smile while was eating before to check in and to let me know my room was ready to check in and did such beautiful smile. She even praise how Lovely I was as guest and said I had great smile. I even had one the guests offered clean out my plate when I done eating. This is heaven. And one more that have jacuzzi pool to relax on. I for sure coming back next time I'm in Denver. read more

This is my first ever stay in a hostel in any location. I decided to stay here because the prices during my stay at regular hotels were crazy and this seemed more reasonable. I was pleased to find that I could request a female only dorm (I've read horror stories for some same sex dorms). I think my room had 8 but you can also do different quantities for different rates.(Coed dorm, etc) My roommates for the most part were friendly; the other 2 kept to themselves. They also have multiple common areas (on the first floor and outside) and shower areas. These showers and bathrooms were cleaned daily (at a minimum). When I got up in the morning, all the doors were propped open and you could definitely smell cleaning products. So that was a plus. There was only once that a guy shaved his beard and left his stubble in the sink, but that's a guest issue not a hostel one, I was able to check in a little early since my bed was ready which was awesome. I was able to get changed and head out for afternoon tea. The rooms are essentially bunk beds with privacy curtains. Everyone's name is above their bed. Quiet hours are 11PM-7AM(?) I think and everyone in my room was super respectful of those hours. Parking behind the hostel was a little tricky. Only a couple spots and people generally parked there and didn't leave. They do have spots in the lot next to them in the back; just ask for a parking pass at the front desk. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who travels on a budget and doesn't mind sharing amenities. read more

I found this place on a whim and it was excellent. The staff are friendly and attentive (shout out to Tyler and Bobby!) and they are serious about making sure you feel safe and welcome. I was a single woman traveling alone and I couldn't have felt more comfortable. You can tell the people working there care about what they do. The nicest hostel I've stayed in, with the most amenities (and priced to reflect that). Right off the bat, parking was made super convenient because you can get a free pass (first come first serve) to park in the lot right next to the hostel. There's even a back staircase to the parking lot that's accessible via key card. The check in process was simple and streamlined, and one of the friendly employees gave me a tour of the place immediately after I arrived. He was thoughtful enough to knock and make sure the coast was clear before showing me how to open the door to the woman's dorm with my keycard. Onto the dorms - they were very clean and the bedding was sooo comfy. The all white linens were spotless, soft and more in keeping with the quality what you might expect from a traditional hotel than what I've experienced at most hostels. The bunks all had their own individual blackout curtains for sleep and privacy, outlets and lamp. That made it much easier to set your own schedule without disturbing others with your phone light etc. The bathrooms were extremely clean and relatively private compared to other hostels I've been to. Each shower and toilet has its own separate lockable room. The one thing I will say is that the water pressure was unusually low when I went there (especially from the sink faucets), but the efficient rain shower heads and ample hot water made for a comfortable shower anyways. Why stay in this hostel when it is priced similarly to a hotel? 1) Location - this was in the heart of Denver and walking distance from many restaurants, bars, and attractions (like a weed mansion?!); other accommodations in this area are significantly more expensive 2) Comfort, cleanliness - this felt much, much cleaner than a $60-$90/night motel, with really nice, updated bathrooms, extremely comfortable mattresses and bedding; it was generally beautiful, given that it is a well maintained converted Victorian mansion 3) the hostel experience - there were plenty of other friendly fellow young travelers to socialize with on the cool patio, there were laundry facilities and a full kitchen to use, and lots of information on local events, shows and attractions; staying here was memorable - much more-so than another stay at an interchangeable Marriott, or a questionable highway chain motel; that said, it was definitely lacking the rough around the edges vibe that you get from most hostels, and again it was priced higher than most hostels accordingly. read more

For my first experience in a hostel, I can say Ember set the bar high. I'm a hotel gal through and through because I love privacy. However, I craved a new social experience so I did a little googling and picked Ember for my stay. I'm so glad I did because service was top notch! I came a little early so I couldn't check in just yet but they let me tuck my luggage away by the front desk space and gave me recommendations for food that was a short walk away. Once I was able to check in, I got a quick tour of the house and amenities. I shared a room with several other woman which I loved that I could choose to book this way versus a co-Ed dorm. Each bed had privacy curtains, under bed storage that can be locked, cozy bedding, lamp, small fan, and an outlet. Once I got settled, I chilled in the beautiful lobby area/patio (420 friendly). I met so many cool people on my stay and loved the activities that were planned out. A group of us walked to the Denver Art Museum that evening for a free tour. They had a gathering later by the fire that night as well but I opted out since I had an early flight. I honestly couldn't stop raving about my experience to friends and family after leaving. Even more so because they thought I was crazy for sharing a room with complete strangers. But I had the time of my life, even if it was just for one day. read more

I stayed 4 days in Denver and had 3 wonderful nights at Ember Hostel. The Place was so welcoming for an older guy like me who has now started solo traveling . My first hostel stay ... and in a 18 person co-ed room. It could not have been a better choice. Comfortable beds, great private showers and restrooms, the kitchen was well equipped and the lounge and patio where fun meeting places. The travelers there were about 30 % international and the rest were job hunters , fun seekers , and people who are enjoyed life. I so pleased at how respectful all the other guests were about being quiet in the rooms after hours. The staff ( especially Marcel ,Kyle, Jess) were so helpful and friendly. I think I interacted with about 8 different workers all so nice. Even when the staff wasn't working you would see them doing little thing to keep the place spotless, welcoming and comfortable for the guests. I wish I had met Thea as they spoke so highly of her as a manager. Denver and my trips to the Museums, Zoo , National parks (Rockys hiking) Red Rock, Meow Wolf, a Brewery and distillery, will last as a great memory . Thanks Ember Hostel . read more

This place was terrific! All of the staff was extremely friendly and outgoing and made me feel right at home. Everything was very clean and organized and someone was always at the front desk in case I had any questions. They also had planned excursions which was a wonderful way to meet other people at the hostel and made it easy to explore Downtown Denver. The beds were comfy, the hot tub was cozy, and the hostel itself had such a warm ambiance. This was by far my favorite part of my Colorado trip. 10/10 would recommend. This place is awesome! The building has recently been remodeled, so it's a quirky, modern spin on an old structure, which really works for me. The hostel is spacious, clean, and well-maintained. It's a relaxing but cool place to stay. I really like the fire pit outside. I took the cheapest bed and was glad that I did. The room had a few bunk beds in it, but it didn't feel crowded. Each bed has its own light, shelf, outlet, and curtain you can pull for privacy. There are storage cubbies under the bed and hooks at the end. The beds themselves were very cozy. I slept like a baby! Last but not least, Sparks at the front desk is really sweet and awesome! I appreciated the tour she gave me when I checked in. She also made sure my key worked on all the doors. Even though the hostel has recently opened, it runs like a well-oiled machine. I'll 100% stay here again next time I'm in Denver. read more

as you enter the door there is a certain odor of old feet and old carpet. febreeze is no contender for years of funk and funky. although the 'mansion' is quite the building, the rooms are as sparse as kansas. with literally no design they offer a basic bed with quality mattresses and a curtain for privacy. the showers work on the trickle down theory. the waste of water is substantial due to the amount of time it takes to bathe. pressure is the theme, as 'freeloaders' hover around your every move. i was literally 'stalked' by an individual who later became so aggressive i exited this hostel/homeless shelter quick fast and in a hurry. from the weird vibes and the dabbers and the aggro broke vagabonds this experience was anything but 'relaxing'. the embers have burnt out and all that's left is ash. p.s. you as a manager were aware that i traveled from 4am yet you did not check me in until approximately 4.20 and were not available as you posted a sign saying back in 5 minutes which was there for well over 2 hours. and the hostel does have an unpleasant smell. as well as vagrants vagabonds and transients. if i am honest it felt like a homeless shelter more than a hostel many times. p.s.s. weird vibe? that homeless shelter you call a hostel! i paid and took a staff member to his/her first baseball game! i provided freebies to the broke! the only ' acquaintance' i met was a black woman whom i had a private conversation with at 4am when no one was awake and it was actually peaceful. the stalker was the stalker and made everyone uncomfortable! i was that person who said and meant it. i was on a business w/ pleasure trip and continued that trip to marthas vineyard. that person you removed is on the streets. you should stop blaming me for my honesty! and fix your homeless staff and vagabond drug addicted long term living vagrants! 'we' didn't 'see/speak' you drooled over my voice and my physical presence to the point of wanting me to be in a commercial for the hostel. your 'staff' outed you! Attention to detail is what makes this Hostel such a wonderful place to stay. The staff makes a STRONG EFFORT to be helpful. The lobby and bunk rooms are tastefully constructed . The owner must have consulted with an interior decorator to design the interior. The entire facility is very clean. Their is a back patio with comfortable seating and jacuzzi. Also a gas fire device. When I registered, i asked the desk clerk to take my emergency contact information, he was more than willing to accommodate me. This was very important to me. I stayed at Ember Hostel during a three day, solo, vacation in Denver. I have stayed in hostels in both the USA, and other countries abroad, and this one may be the best one yet. The hostel furnishings are exceptionally clean and comfortable. The backyard and common areas are great for meeting fellow travelers, but the overall atmosphere is quiet and relaxed. There were definitely a large contingent of guests who wanted to party and have fun, but everyone was quiet and respectful of each other. The hostel has quiet hours for bedrooms (I think from 11p-8a) so it's easy to get some sleep even if the rest of the hostel may be busy. The beds were comfortable, clean, and very private with the curtains that can be drawn over your bed. I didn't take part in any of the hostel activities, but from the event board on the wall, there seems to be a lo of events put on at the hostel, or at least recommendations for things to do in the area. The staff members I spoke with were all very friendly and helpful. I checked out of the hostel Monday morning and left my bags there while I went to the Red Rocks for a hike. When I got back, I realized I should probably shower before my flight home. Even though I had already checked out, the guy at the front desk gave me a towel to shower and let me hang around for an hour or so until I needed to head to the airport. That is the type of customer service that goes above and beyond what I would have expected from other hostels or hotels, and I really appreciated the gesture. All in all, this was a great, centrally located hostel, that I would gladly stay at again. read more

Friendly staff. Cozy, comfy, casual atmosphere. Not sure if the property is a historical site, but the chosen furnishings are certainly designed and placed as if they were. Pics of the lobby and bathrooms attached. Bathrooms are very clean and well-cared for. Shower rooms are separate from toilet rooms. I stayed in the 16-bed coed room, which is on the lower level with the kitchen and laundry machines. The bunks themselves are very comfy. I wish I knew where they get their pillows from. The duvet/comforter kept me very warm. Curtains aren't 100% blackout, but they function well enough to let me sleep during the day. They're probably like 95% blackout. They lend you a towel, which you should hang on the designated hook if/when it's wet. Bring a small combination lock for the under-bunk lockers. A lock like the ones that go on suitcases will do. If you don't have one, you can rent a lock from the staff for $5 or something. The door to the room is locked via RF card. It can be a little tricky to time the mechanism exactly right. My trick was to tap the card, wait for the beep and green light, immediately push down on the handle once and release it, then push down on the handle and push the door open. Worked every time I tried it. No food or drinks allowed in the room, which is understandable. The room was conveniently located 15 feet from the kitchen anyways. Inside the room, everyone was very quiet and respectful. If curtains are closed, assume someone might be there sleeping. The bunk has a lamp and an electrical outlet with two 3-prong sockets and 2 usb sockets. Kitchen area was warm, but stocked with equipment. There's a stove, microwave, rice cooker, refrigerator, freezer, pantry shelves, sink, small dishwasher, and several other things I can't remember. The shower rooms have a fancy directly-over-head, rain-style shower-head. See picture. There was a small wooden bench, a couple door hooks, a sink, and a mirror in the one I used. There's board games and coffee available in the lobby. A few people were playing Clue when I arrived. If you arrive too early to check in (before 3 PM), you can drop large luggage at the front desk. Someone is staffing the desk 24/7. There's a hot tub and an outdoor fire pit behind the main building. There is WiFi included. The password is on the keycard for your room access. The location is convenient. A few miles from downtown. Check out the Denver Botanical Gardens and the Nature & Science Museum nearby. Denver Public Library looked nice from the outside, but I only saw it in passing. As someone who used to live in Austin, I love Hopdoddy Burgers, so try them out for lunch (2 miles into downtown Denver) but if you think they might be too busy, TAG Burgers had good burgers and sweet potato fries. When I re-visit Denver, I look forward to staying here again. read more

While visiting Denver for work I had the misfortune of visiting this establishment to meet others from the Denver Couchsurfing.org community. Instead of being shown cozy hospitality I was served a dour double dose of petulant pettiness. Apparently instead of allowing me to sit by the fireplace and wait for the meeting to commence I was curtly told of an (obviously impromptu) Ember hostel "policy" to deny me hospitality. I was told in no uncertain terms that I could neither leave the beers (that I bought for the meetup) nor simply wait the hour or so until the others from the far flung Denver Couchsurfing.org community arrived. The young man & young lady working the front desk were both inattentive and rudely indifferent to the absurdity of refusing to allow me to wait for my friends to arrive. There was a freak April snowstorm yet I was told I couldn't stay inside the hostel because I had arrived to early. 60 minutes may seem a bit early to most Americans but I drove 15+ hours to get to Denver and had been looking forward to meeting the extraordinary travelers from the CS community only to be kicked out by the Ember Hostel staff. I didn't get the especially nasty young man's name but he's a piss poor employee who doesn't understand the first thing about hospitality: empathy. The staff should be properly trained and not given free reign to run roughshod over travelers meeting other travelers. His insolent demeanor and abrupt extreme unfriendliness forced my decision to return to the medical center in the snowstorm. Perhaps I take extra umbrage as a visiting physician to the grating arrogance of that twit but be warned fellow Yelpers that this hostel has subpar staff. This was my second experience at staying at a hostel. I have to say it was better than my first which was Portland. The social meeting rooms which include coffee and espresso machine, the showers and the outdoor patio that includes hot tub are the coolest things about this hostel. I didn't spend much time in the outdoor patio but I had a nice view from inside. The only thing I would change is I wished the kitchen was bigger. Stayed here for 3 nights with my girlfriend. Nice place for the money, but after what we experienced we would have been MUCH HAPPIER ANYWHERE ELSE. First off, every time we went outside at night it was basically a party, people smoking this and that and all of them drinking. Some odd man actually offered me crack. Yeah. Worst part of the stay was that my girlfriends iPd Pro 512 gb WiFi+ cellular model was stolen, with the Smart Keyboard and Apple Pencil 2. In addition my Apple Watch series 5 TITANIUM EDITION "went missing" while I was in the shower and charging it on my bed. Also some of our clothes "went missing" as well, and some were brand new with the tags still in them. We didn't realize until we got off our flight home (when I charge my watch I wear my Tag for a while , kinda go back and forth), that we were missing as much as we were missing. This may have been a nice place to stay before, but if I were you I'd avoid a potential nightmare and stay at a hotel, peace of mind can't be bought! Worst experience I've ever had at a place I pay to stay the night. My girlfriend is so angry she didn't want to write this, she wanted to call out names. I just want to warn the next person. This is hands down the nicest place I have ever stayed. This is what hostels everywhere should aspire to be like! I LOVED my time staying at Ember. This is the first hostel I've ever been to and was blown away by the upscale detail put in to the property. Upon arrival, I was informed I had been upgraded to a 6 person room even though I had paid for the 16 person mixed dorm. They even asked if I preferred an all female room. The bunk rooms are very comfortable with plenty of storage under the bed (don't forget a lock). I was impressed with the quality of linens and the big fluffy comforter provided! The blackout curtains were an incredible touch and provided some much needed privacy. Even though the hostel seemed to have a lot of guests, I was still able to get a great night's rest. I could barely hear anyone in other rooms once I was in our bunk room with the door closed. The showers and bathrooms are like the W hotel. Very clean, and just the right amount of room. I wish there would have been more bench or counter space to put stuff on but it was totally fine - maybe adding a few shelves would help. The staff at this hostel truly makes it what it is. They are caring, helpful and interested in knowing their guests! I felt very safe because someone was always at the front desk even in the middle of the night. Special shout out to Kyle - he offered to let me use his laundry detergent when I didn't have any and was always looking out for us. I will definitely be back when I visit Denver. I already miss my hostel buds! This place really broadened my horizons and I will always remember it. I hope I can visit it's Sister hostel in Austin Texas soon. A few pieces of feedback I'd like to offer to management but by no means take away from the 5 star rating this place deserves: - try to drain the hot tub/turn off the hot tub during the week when it is less crowded. The hot tub wasn't hot the first night and was off on Sunday. While talking to other guests, I learned that the lively pictures of people partying in the hot tub on Ember's website are one of the main reasons guests decide to stay here. The staff definitely tried to help us get it on and were very attentive. I know it has to be drained at some point! - the rooms can get rather stuffy at night. Especially in the top bunk with the curtain drawn. We opened the window but it might be cool to buy cheap small fans that can be rented at the front to plug into the bunk areas. - add numbers to each bunk and number the hooks on the walls in the room. The absolutely nicest hostel i have ever stayed in. Beautiful old home, safe neighborhood and a wonderful staff. Loved the showers and very clean restrooms in addition to the comfortable beds and privacy curtains on each bed. Secure under bed storage for my property and electrical outlet with a light attached to the side of the bed. When i return to denver im headed straight to this hostel. Only a couple blocks from broadway and not far from trader joes. I highly recomend this hostel to everyone. Thanks guys for a memorable stay. read more

I'll prolly never write a better review than this one. Coming from Kentucky where the culture is a lot different I was greeted with the friendliest of people and became close friends with a lot of the staff just after staying two days. The beds are super clean and extremely I mean extremely knock out comfy, with red velvet curtains to get the privacy you need. The place is decorated with the some of the coolest antiques fora minute you might think your on the titanic. The highlight is definitely the back patio, first time I came it was packed with people chatting from across the world like the Denver version of the that 70's show and stays like that pretty much round the clock!
