My friend warned me to be careful as Colfax isn't the safest street in Denver, depending on where you're at; that said we felt comfortable enough to walk down the street and go out to eat at 9pm. We picked The Holiday Chalet since it had relatively good reviews on Expedia, although looking at Yelp after we checked in I was disappointed to see the mixed reviews and complaints. Pros: Wasn't overly expensive. Our room was beautiful, (Alfred? First one on right on first floor)--definitely reflects the time period of the house (1890s). Staff was great, accommodating; they even held our luggage all day. Cons: One of our locks was broken, but at least the deadbolt worked; keys are really finicky. They advertised 11am checkout w Expedia, but we found out at 9:20 that checkout is at 10am--staff at least accommodated us on that. "Continental breakfast" was some bagels, nitrigrain bars, cereal, coffee, and lunch meat haphazardly thrown into a college sized fridge--we were a little disappointed. On our way out we also overheard another customer get a refund because her radiator made a water mess all over their room, and sheets were dirty. Would I stay again?--no. Would I recommend to someone?--maybe a college kid looking for cheap facilities in a hip neighborhood.

Our first day in the room, I remember thinking, "I can see why they only have 2 stars". We stayed in room 33 from Aug. 25th--30th, and it wasn't clean. There was a wad of hair on the floor in the bathroom, and there were strands of hair in the rug. You could tell the room wasn't vacuumed or swept after the last guest checked out. While I was unpacking, I wanted to put my clothes in the dresser, but the drawer was full of crumbs and debris. Luckily, the closet had plenty of hangers so I just hung most of my things up. Also, there isn't an elevator in the building, so it was a struggle for my friend and I to lug four suitcases up three flights of stairs. I'm glad they had bagels, milk, cereal, yogurt and tangerines for breakfast; but I really wish they had a hot water machine next to the food. On several occasions during my stay, I wanted to drink some tea, but of course the water cooler was all the way downstairs on the ground floor. To make matters worse, the hot water button wasn't working. No matter which tab I pressed, all the water came out cold. Overall, this isn't your typical hotel experience. The rooms don't get cleaned regularly to where you walk into a remade bed with fresh towels every day. It's more like: you're crashing overnight in the spare bedroom of somebody's home.

We loved our room and the convenience of this incredibly charming hotel. The rooms are done in total antique style so you feel like you're royalty. Bed was comfy, room was clean, great shower. However, this is a no frills place. No continental breakfast or coffee (although we had a little kitchenette in our room), cant use the courtyard which is overgrown anyway, no check-in desk although the staff was responsive and quick whenever we had questions, they don't change linens or towels unless you're there more than 4 days. And the neighborhood - while there are great local establishments that we enjoyed - is very sketchy with homeless people literally hanging out on the steps to the hotel. Once inside I felt totally safe, but I definitely wasn't venturing out alone at night. But look how amazing the place is! They've done a great job making the place technologically up to date and it's super cute. And they can't help the socioeconomic woes of the city. Definitely recommend.

I chose the Holiday Chalet because of it's convenient location and fairly good reviews. However, during my stay, at 3AM I woke up noticing that I felt more "sheets" at the foot of my bed with my own feet. When I turned on the lights, I noticed that is was not sheets at all, but dirty underwear from the previous guest! Clearly, they did not clean the sheets. I was not able to go back to sleep, but because the front desk is not open 24 hours, I had to wait until 7AM to talk with the receptionist. The receptionist told me that the manager would get back to me and would give me a refund for the room due to my experience. I also emailed the manager. However, the manager never got back to me.

Loved our cute bedroom with private bath. We loved the laid back, come & do as you please attitude. Staff were around if needed but otherwise we didn't have to worry about interacting with anyone unless wanted. That made it feel more private and cozy. We definitely took advantage of the private patio. There were places within walking distance and everything else was a quick Uber ride/Uber Eats away!

The first thing I do when I vacation at a new city is to obviously find a hotel. The three things I also need in a hotel are booze, drugs and prostitutes. And you can get all the abovementioned items on busy Colfax Avenue. Colfax Avenue is one of the longest streets in Denver and the sectional area I was staying most definitely reminds me of the Tenderloin and South of Market area in San Francisco. But the rules in staying in the Victorian house, which was built in 1896, you can't bring drugs or prostitutes to this cute 10 room home. I found and booked this Victorian hotel for $99.00 per night from Expedia. I was here for two nights (9/10 & 9/11) for a total of $225.00. Outside on Colfax Avenue you'll see various unlawful activities. But you will be in a different and homely world in this Victorian. My room has wooden floors, a kitchen and a dining area with a view of the beautiful garden. My room: http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/the-holiday-chalet-denver?select=GtTExEAgYUC9TmXHLaTqsg#539qP4vU-4RvyZMo1bMrSw The activity room has a kitchen with owner: Ellie preparing breakfast to her guests every morning. The activity room also has a consignment section too. A very cute set up organized by Ellie. Ellie's main objective is to make our stay safe and quiet. Indeed she did that and does an excellent job. There is a Botanical garden, a park with running trail and Denver Zoo not from the home. Colfax Avenue also has many good restaurants and cool businesses, which I'll review some of them shortly. Staying at these Victorian home are different than some of the hotels I've been staying. I like my stay here and Ellie is very nice and helped me on my quest of the city of Denver. I would definitely stay here again.

If you're looking for a cool hotel a short walk from Union Station, The Maven is a great option. We were easily able to walk from the station with our luggage and our room was ready early! The vibe is very cool, eclectic, and modern. From the Airstream-style trailer by the front desk, where they give our churros at happy hour, to the great decor, to the adjoining food hall and cocktail bar- It was just what we were hoping for. A few notes: - If you want housekeeping, you have to ask for it. We didn't know this and were confused why the room wasn't getting refreshed. *Would love to see some small signage about this in the room or mention it at check-in. - Be ready to jot down all the perks when you arrive- from drink tickets for happy hour at the cocktail bar, to % off at the adjoining restaurant and bar, to a free drip coffee at Huck coffee (technically in the food hall? but literally just across the lobby), these are worth taking advantage of! Overall, a great stay and would recommend to others. Shout-out to Kodiak at the front desk who was lovely with all of our questions!

The location really can't be beat. You're right in the heart of LoDo. Coors Field is a few blocks from the hotel and Union Station (which connects directly to Denver Airport) is only about a 5 minute walk away. Tons of restaurants, bars, and things to do are all within walking distance, which makes it extremely convenient. When booking, I asked for a high floor, quiet room so I could work. Upon check-in, they honored that request and also upgraded my room from a Journeyman to an Innovator Suite which I greatly appreciated. That upgrade definitely elevated the stay! The Innovator Suite was fantastic. It had two queen beds, two TVs, a full sofa, wet bar, dining table, flexible workspace, and city views overlooking Denver's LoDo District. The bathroom had a large soaking tub, which I had to take advantage off. There's no balcony and while the wet bar includes a small fridge, it's not really functional for anything beyond drinks as there's no space for leftovers or larger items. You also get a token per night to redeem for a free drink at the bar during happy hour, plus free drip coffee in the mornings. Other perks include free churros during social hour, a courtesy car service within a 2 mile radius, and discounts at various shops. There's also a fitness center, although I didn't use it. There were some things missing though: no pool, no spa, housekeeping is by request only, and no breakfast included. Service throughout was excellent. There's 24 hour front desk service and everyone I interacted with was cheerful, helpful, and kind. Overall, a strong stay with great service, a fantastic room upgrade, and an excellent location, even if a few expected amenities were missing for the price. If I had to come back to Denver and the company was covering the bill, I would stay again. The location really can't be beat. If I were coming for a leisure trip with a similar budget, I'd probably look for a hotel with a pool and spa instead. This hotel is best suited for people who want to experience LoDo nightlife, catch a game, or just be right in the middle of everything downtown. The room I was upgraded to was probably much more expensive than what I actually paid, which definitely improved the experience. I'm not sure I would feel the same way if I had stayed in the original room I booked. 4.5 stars rounded down.

They had other types of food, obviously, but steak was in plentiful abundance over anything. The housekeeping staff was amazing and on top of their game. The room quality was very good and spacious; larger than most hotels' suites. The in-room bar and mini-fridge were not free despite being labeled an "honor bar." I'm not cheap; I have no issue paying. My issue is the deceptive marketing of the so-called honor bar. The room's furniture was not cheap, but it did appear tacky with the illusion of being of quality. On the positive side, the staff were polite and attentive, and the room was cleaned while I was out.
