We will choose to stay at the Patterson in the future. The house is 1 of a kind beautiful and the staff is nothing short of accommodating. Huge hat tip to Chef Duck who provided the most exciting thing we had every day, Breakfast. I'm not kidding when I say this guy has got it going on! His food is AMAZING! The room we stayed in, the Vanderbilt, is a large corner room, with a very friendly maternal spirit (oh yeah, it's haunted! ) And a king size bed, and the most adorable soaking tub. We were quite happy and cozy there and look forward to visiting again!

We were looking forward to staying at the Patterson Inn, but were pretty disappointed in our stay. We were here for a girl's getaway and stayed four nights in the Cheshire suite. Overall the Inn seems to be lacking a lot of the touches that make for a nice stay and are often found in Inns. Pros- Building is beautiful and location is pretty good for restaurants, access to downtown and activities. Staff are, for the most part, very nice and helpful. Ricky, chef and Innkeeper for three of our mornings, was a standout. He was personable and helpful and a good chef! Water pressure/temp in the shower was excellent. This is not always the case in older buildings. Beds and pillows were very soft and comfortable. Cons- The entrance is not welcoming. You're greeted with brooms, mops, snow shovel, etc. No morning or afternoon coffee/tea service in the lobby and none in room. Many people like to have coffee or tea when they wake up. You'd have to go all the way to the lobby when the staff is there for breakfast and ask them for hot water or coffee. Many Inns have coffee/tea service in the morning and evening and the evening often includes a cookie or some such small snack. Having a single serve coffee maker in the rooms would be very nice. The hot/cold water dispensers on the floors do not work. We were told they are in the process of upgrading. This, as well as the lack of ice machines on the floors, means you have to trek to the lobby to get hot water or ice. The Inn has no place to sit and relax that is not right outside someone's room (Gallery pictures of main floor show seating that is no longer there). Given that there is not seating in the rooms there is no place to relax and read/play games. The bar is really not set up for this and gallery pictures of bar show lounge seating that is no longer available. The web listed happy hour does not exist. We were told it had been discontinued. We were given one drink coupon (house canned beer or wine) apiece, for a four night stay, to use in the bar. Not four drink tickets. One. Cheshire: The Website lists the suite as having a steam shower. I was looking forward to using it. There is no steam shower. The website shows a small fridge in the room. There is no fridge. No place to sit in the suite other than a desk chair and a small chaise lounge for one person. There was no remote control for the TV is smaller bedroom. I called the front desk and was told a previous guest inadvertently took it with them and they were waiting to get it back. Perhaps they should try a universal remote? I went to use the oscillating fan in the smaller bedroom in the evening. It was filthy. I'd already asked about hot/cold water dispenser, happy hour and remote control I was not in the mood to call the front desk, yet again. The suite is not well suited for two couples for more than one, maybe two nights. Closet space is limited as is bathroom counter space. Overall misses: The bar was a letdown. We used our drink tickets for a $9 glass of wine (very short pour) and a $4 Sprite. There were four guests in the bar, all over 50, but the bartender was playing some discordant rap music at a volume that did not make you want to hang around and relax. The chef the first day seemed to not want to be there. No introduction, so I don't know his name. He was gruff and monosyllabic. My friend asked for hot tea and sweetener . He brought a cup of hot water with a tea bag. No spoon and no spoon "bowl". Really? She used her knife to stir her tea. She had to ask twice for sweetener. Early breakfast (prior to breakfast hours due to a mid-morning flight) was a small, cold muffin made, at least, the day before. I get they can't do a breakfast item to go, but it would be nice to have what other places have supplied such as a small container of yogurt, piece of fruit, etc. There are two signs in the breakfast room pointing out that tips are appreciated, plus a card in the room. I wish the breakfast was more than just the one item. Even just a small bowl of yogurt to start would be a great addition. I am fine with an historic Inn that does not have all the bells and whistle. I dislike being mislead as to what is available and the standards seem to not be that high for the Patterson.

I don't know if the Castle originally had restrooms, but a good job was done making them look "period."

I was surprised how much I liked this place. It is still a work in progress, but I love that this old, historic building is being used for this purposed, and being kept alive. The woodwork inside is classic, beautiful, and worth the visit. The place has obviously been remodeled some since its Victorian days, but all the upgrades are done in good taste combining both modern comfort, and Victorian charm. The owners are good about keeping the classic "feel" of the Inn while using it as a bed and breakfast. We we went, we had almost unlimited access to the entire property, and were given a tour by the owner, Chris Chiari who was gracious enough to share what he knew about the history of the place, the history of its owners, and his plans for the future. I probably knew about the Election of 1876, but I never really connected how Thomas M. Patterson affected that election, even if it wasn't the way he wanted to. I also found out that Patterson was a volunteer in the Civil War, serving in the 11th Indiana Volunteers on an initial three month enlistment. It was interesting to me to find out that this unit was a "Zouave" unit, and fought at the battles of Fort Henry, Fort Donelson, and Shiloh, but Patterson isn't mentioned in any reports of that, and he probably didn't see action. He mustered out in 1862, and went to law school before his political ambition brought him to Denver. The nice thing about this "Castle," (the owner prefers to call it a "Castle," and I concur"), is it's prime location. It is very near what used to be Denver's Millionaire's Row, and is easy walking distance from many interesting mansions constructed around the same time. There is a lot of history in a small space. There are also a lot of good restaurants serving just about anything you would like to eat, including excellent vegan and vegetarian options. It's also easy walking distance to the Capitol, and did walk over there just as session was starting. The website notes "free parking," they don't say much about that. There are Three spaces right by the carriage house to the North side along 11th, but those fill up fast, and they are on first come, first served basis. There is a loading area right by those spaces on the street where you can drop off your luggage, and drive over to Grant Street to park for free. The Inn has six or more reserved spaces at the Grant Street lot, and the Inn will give you a placard to put in your window so you don't get towed. It's an easy walk back to the Inn. Note that the Bar has limited hours, and it is in the large carriage house to the West of the main building. The hours are 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., and you will be treated to great stories if Chris is behind the bar. The former bar in the basement is not open at this time, and it is being converted into a smoking den. While staying here, be sure to take the history walk that includes, (among others), The Cresswell House, The White-Peabody Mansion, The Pennborough, The Dunning-Benedict Mansion,The Sheedy Mansion, The Molly Brown House, The State Capitol, and The Charline," Each of these has great history attached, and this is possibly Denver's most historic neighborhood when you include Cheesman Park and the Botanical Gardens. I highly recommend this Inn/Castle for anyone, but especially those particularly interested in history, and Victorian architecture. There is an elevator for those who cannot climb the stairs, but I found the stairs to be more enjoyable, and an easy climb.

If you are considering staying at the Patterson Inn, do it! The owner Chris is incredible and the team he has assembled and the direction they are taking this fantastic establishment is amazing. Scott, Erica and Phoebe went above and beyond to make our honeymoon more special then we ever thought was possible. Wes and Mary make the most delicious breakfast options you will have each morning! We stayed in the DaVinci room with the private balcony and it was perfect in so many regards. We can't wait to come back to the Patterson Inn the next time we get to Denver as a couple. The location is great, the neighborhood is clean but the facility and staff are the stars of our stay. Thank you again to everyone at the Patterson who helped make our honeymoon such a fantastic experience we will cherish forever!

A luxury property with a storied history and an amenable staff. This tiny castle in the heart of urban Denver has the unique distinction of being the only 420 friendly location of its kind. With an attached speakeasy style bar and a soon to be open cannabis only lounge, it's hard to say what more you could ask of this historic Midwestern jewel.

Had a wonderful stay at Patterson inn ! Check in was quick and easy, the room was beautiful and clean. The customer service was amazing as well. Evenings they have happy hour for guest which is free wine. Mornings there is complimentary home cooked breakfast that was 10/10. The bed was soooo comfortable I didn't want to wake up. They say a room is "haunted " it's a historic house. Just beautiful

We really enjoyed our stay at the Patterson Inn. How many times do you get to stay in a historic landmark. One of the few hotels that we have stayed in that we would want to stay in again. We were in the Da Vinci room on the lobby level. It was HUGE with nice high ceilings and impeccably decorated. Lots of beautiful stained glass-the curtains don't go all the way up, so if you're sensitive to light you might want to bring a sleep mask if morning light bugs you. There is a very large patio with a screen door that looks out to the garden & sidewalk...so you can have some fresh air coming in if you want. There is no AC, but fans and a heater are provided...we didn't use either. The bathroom was quite large & had a big tub with good water pressure. Breakfast is included with your room..sweet & savory option. The lemon cornflake pancakes were delish...biscuits & gravy with eggs was the other choice. The 12 Spirits Tavern is downstairs. Very laid back. They give you tickets, but that is only good for wine or beer. We were on the floor above it, so you could hear music & voices...however, they close at 9 so it didn't bother us sleeping, etc. We'd definitely come back.

And you…read morewonder what they're like inside or who built them, if it's still the same or has it changed functions of fallen into disrepair, etc until you drive past the next one. This is your chance to explore one of them and the hosts are happy to share the history of both Denver and the castle! Lots of our local friends knew the house and were surprised to learn it was a bed and breakfast. (If I were local, I would make a point to stay.) It's like sleeping over in a museum time machine--which I can say is a dream of mine. Castle Marne is totally unique and delightful. It's an absolute treasure and it owes everything to the Peiker family, who have been operating the b&b for the last 30 years and who restored the entire house and property--there's a photo album to prove it if you're still not impressed. Our group stayed in 2 rooms: The Tower and one downstairs whose name I already forgot. Both were beautifully decorated with detail and respect for the home's Victorian roots. The property is immaculately landscaped so every window had a great view and soft light filtered through large trees. The rooms were spotless and everyone had a little extra space. We learned The Tower was originally an open porch area for the third floor ballroom! Our second room was added in the 1930s and felt like it's own apartment--with a separate porch and entry door very convenient for people like myself who forget things and have to go back inside 3-4 times before actually leaving. Delicious, healthy breakfast is served in the dining room with the other guests. Our hosts made bread, muffins, and fresh jam from scratch!! They were happy to accommodate one vegan diet as well. I could keep going but all you need to know is THIS PLACE IS SPECIAL and I am so grateful for the opportunity to stay here! #badcopbadcop #castlemarne

I called both hosts and was sent directly to voicemail. About 20 minutes later they finally texted back and told me to "lift the door up and it will roll to the right" When I followed that, the heavy door came off its track and crashed to the floor. It missed my child by maybe a foot. By sheer luck my daughter wasn't killed. I should have called the police to get my kids out instead of listening to their terrible advice. I've attached screenshots as of text communication as proof. Afterward, the hosts posted an Airbnb review claiming I "berated" them and "splintered their priceless door." The attached text messages show them being apologetic in real time until they wrote their public review. I never berated anyone, but I should have. Other issues: - Strong noise and odor from ducks in a cage or pen next to the room - Front door opens directly into a parking lot where homeless people frequently loitered - Cleanliness below basic standards Bottom line: the door is a serious hazard. The hosts were slow to respond and gave advice that nearly caused a disaster. This place is not safe for kids.

This isn't a super nice or updated space, but we had everything we needed for our mixed bag of early 30s friends. My friends and I stayed in the Stone St. cottage, which is heavily Grateful Dead/psychedelic/ classic rock themed. The room is listed as sleeping 3, which we did on night one, but easily slept 4 on night 2. The grounds were so charming and eclectic. The cottage we were in was a little wonky and slanted on the floor, but the rooms were clean, the shower worked great and we had more than what we needed. We checked in super late in the darkness so we didn't get to experience a normal front desk check in, which I'm sure would brief us on procedures like pre-ordering breakfast the night before, but the staff was so accommodating when we showed up hungry and ordered bacon, eggs and potatoes in the AM. Mary was the cook and she was rad, quick witted and whipped up a lovely home cooked breakfast. There are 2 dogs (that we met) on site names Shokti (gorg white husky queen) and Mr. Dog (precious, hilarious chihuahua businessman) and we loved to pet and visit with them while in the main lodge. That space is incredible: kitschy, eclectic, trippy and warm, just like our whole stay! I could go on forever about how adult-summer-camp-esque the grounds were! Every cottage is themed, though we only entered ours. The covered hot tub was a crucial touch for our group in the crisp 50 degree weather to take a morning dip and unwind after the show. I'm unsure if all cottages come with hot tubs so definitely confirm if that's something you're interested in. The walkability to all the necessities and some breweries/ eateries was appealing when we had time to kill. Cliff House offers a shuttle to and from Red Rocks for a fixed price per rider. The shuttle to the venue leaves 15 minutes prior to doors which was a little late for us, so we opted to take the shuttle back and it was a highlight of the trip. Brook's organized the shuttle, sent us incredibly detailed instructions on where/ how to find her in a short, yellow school bus. I especially appreciate the details because we had been drinking etc and needed the depth of care taken to make sure we found her! The bus was stocked with beverages and we played music and just bopped down the hill, laughing our butts off. This was such a fun stay for us and it was thanks to the grounds, location, home cooked breakfast and tea in the lodge, Mary, Brooks, Shokti and Mr. Dog. I will recommend to anyone I know traveling that way!
